Most American media has become no different from the state-controlled media in China. In addition, major social media platforms, like Facebook and Twitter, are censoring peoples’ voices. Which is why we are offering a full access subscription to The Epoch Times for 4 months for just $1. NOTE: This is our lowest priced offer ever, and it is available for a very limited time. Uncertainty is leading at the polls as our political discourse has become a partisan charade that threatens to send economic growth into an historic tailspin…In 2020, the question is – what will the IRA’s, 401(k)’s, savings, pensions and retirement plans look when the dust settles? Axios AM
🍑 Good Tuesday morning. Today’s Smart Brevity™ count: 1,052 words … 4 minutes.
The next two days look to be the most tumultuous and telling of the wild, never-ending 2020 election.
- Twin runoffs in Georgia today determine control of the U.S. Senate.
- And perhaps half or more of the Republicans in Congress will cast an unprecedented number of votes to invalidate President-elect Biden’s clear win, as the House and Senate meet to certify the Electoral College votes.
Why it matters: It’s insane and revealing that those joining the protest — more than 100 House members (and perhaps 140+), plus 13 senators — could amount to more than half of Capitol Hill’s Republicans.
- This shows the political strength could maintain in exile, tormenting Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell and other establishment Republicans.
Reality check: The Republican lawmakers won’t change the outcome, but they’ll drag out what’s usually a low-drama process.
- As Speaker Pelosi put it Sunday in a memo to House Democrats: “At the end of the day, which could be the middle of the night, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will be officially declared the next President and Vice President of the United States.”
The 2020 election’s final fight could be in the streets: A law enforcement source tells me tens of thousands of people — mostly pro-Trump, but perhaps some from the left — are expected to converge on Washington tomorrow as Congress meets.
- Trump has tweeted repeated promotions for the “Stop the Steal” protests.
- D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser asked residents to stay away from downtown — and said the District has mobilized the National Guard, and will have every city police officer on duty to handle protests, the WashPost reports.
At a rally in Georgia last night for the GOP Senate candidates, Trump continued his baseless claim that he won the state: “Big difference between losing and winning and having it stolen … We win every state, and they’re gonna have this guy be president?”
- Trump tried to publicly pressure Vice President Pence, who’ll preside over tomorrow’s proceedings: “I hope Mike Pence comes through for us … He’s a great guy. ‘Course, if he doesn’t come through, I won’t like him quite as much.”

Desperate local health officials are turning to online services like Eventbrite to improvise distribution schemes for the COVID vaccine in the absence of federal support or a national plan, Ashley Gold and Sara Fischer report.
- Why it matters: Millions of lives, along with the country’s economic recovery, depend on a speedy and successful rollout of the vaccine.
In Florida, several counties are using events platform Eventbrite, known for selling concert tickets and coordinating happy hours, to schedule COVID-19 vaccine appointments.
- “This is the only option we have right now,” Jesi Ray, a communications specialist for Brevard County in Florida, told The Verge.
Services like SignUpGenius are pitching their availability for vaccine scheduling, with counties across the country adopting them.
- Some seniors who aren’t internet-savvy have turned to newspaper reporters for help scheduling their appointments.

The decades-long search for life elsewhere in the universe is building to a crescendo in 2021, Axios Space author Miriam Kramer reports.
- Three new Mars missions are slated to arrive at the Red Planet in February and a powerful space telescope is expected to finally launch this year.
NASA is expected to launch its long-delayed James Webb Space Telescope, which could help scientists gather more data on habitable planets around other stars.
- Hunts for intelligent life that creates radio waves, including the well-funded Breakthrough Listen project, are continuing to methodically search the skies for possible signs of life.
- China’s FAST radio telescope — the largest in the world — plans to allow international scientists to use the powerful tool in 2021.

People who collected unemployment will receive smaller — or nonexistent — tax refunds because of a tax law quirk that counts unemployment as taxable income, Jennifer A. Kingson reports.
- Why it matters: Tens of millions of Americans, who desperately need the refund, face precarious finances at a time of dismal job prospects.
- “Tax season is usually the largest infusion of cash that low-income families will get in a year,” says Leigh Phillips, president and CEO of SaverLife, a nonprofit that encourages low-income people to build up reserves.
Nine of the top 10 Senate races with highest ad spending were in the 2020 election cycle, Axios Media Trends expert Sara Fischer reports.
Honking car horns greeted President-elect Biden as he took the stage in Atlanta for the Democratic Senate candidates.
At a rally in Georgia last night, President Trump denounced “y0ur incompetent governor” and “your crazy secretary of state” — both Republicans — as he plugged Sens. Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue.
Stacey Abrams said last night when Stephen Colbert asked her about President Trump’s claim on the leaked Georgia phone call that she was “laughing about” the Republican officials running the state’s vote count:
- “I think it’s a bit of an overstatement to assume I’m thinking about them. I’m focusing on winning this election. They are not my issue.”
A World Health Organization team is beginning a long-delayed investigation in China into how SARS-CoV-2 emerged, as New York Magazine raises a theory about a possible lab accident, Axios Future author Bryan Walsh writes.
- Why it matters: Understanding the origins of COVID-19 is vital if we’re going to prevent the next pandemic.
A year after the first COVID-19 cases were reported in China, a team of 10 international scientists under the auspices of the WHO is set to investigate the origins of the outbreak in the city of Wuhan.
In a 12,000-word story published yesterday in New York Magazine, author Nicholson Baker argued COVID-19 “was an accident.”
- Baker wrote it is possible — probable in his view — that what became SARS-CoV-2 “was made more infectious in one or more laboratories” through what is known as “gain of function” research, and somehow escaped into the wild.
Reality check: There’s little conclusive evidence in the piece that the virus originated in a lab.
Axios Sports author Kendall Baker highlighted these feats for Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry after the best game of his career on Sunday.
- 🧀 USA Today’s PackersWire: “The one stat to sum up how great the Green Bay Packers were on offense during the 2020 regular season: Aaron Rodgers threw more touchdown passes than JK Scott had punts over the 16 games.”

Jan 5, 2021 View in Browser AP MORNING WIRE Good morning. In today’s AP Morning Wire:
TAMER FAKAHANY
The Rundown AP PHOTO/BEN GRAY Decision day in Georgia with critical US Senate majority up for grabs; Biden, Trump warn of high stakes; Analysis: With call, Trump shows no limit to his power grab
“Georgia, the whole nation is looking to you. The power is literally in your hands. One state can chart the course, not just for the next four years, but for the next generation.” — President-elect Joe Biden.
“You’ve got to swarm it tomorrow.” — President Donald Trump.
Georgia voters will decide the balance of power in the U.S. Congress in a pair of high-stakes Senate runoff elections today, Steve Peoples and Bill Barrow report from Atlanta.
The vote will help determine Biden’s capacity to enact what may be the most progressive governing agenda in generations. Democrats must win both races to gain a Senate majority in Washington.
Republicans are unified against Biden’s plans for health care, environmental protections and civil rights. But some fear that Trump’s brazen attempts to undermine the integrity of the nation’s voting systems may scare away Georgia voters.
The results also will help demonstrate whether the sweeping political coalition that fueled Biden’s victory was an anti-Trump anomaly or part of a new landscape. Biden won Georgia’s 16 electoral votes by about 12,000 votes out of 5 million cast in November.
VIDEO: Biden warns of high stakes in Georgia Senate races.
Democratic success will likely depend on driving a huge turnout of African Americans, young voters, college-educated voters and women, all groups that helped Biden become the first Democratic presidential candidate since 1992 to win Georgia. Republicans, meanwhile, have been focused on energizing their base of white men and voters beyond metro Atlanta.
Trump-Electoral College: With mounting desperation, Trump declared he will “fight like hell” to hold on to the presidency. He’s appealed to Republican lawmakers to reverse his comprehensive election loss to Biden when they convene to confirm the Electoral College vote. He shouted his objections to his loss, which he falsely insists was a victory, at a long rally in Georgia last night, Lisa Mascaro, Mary Claire Jalonick and Kevin Freking report.
VIDEO: Trump says we’ll ‘fight like hell’ to keep White House.
Analysis: Trump’s ongoing efforts to overturn the election results — laid out in stark detail in an hourlong weekend phone call with a Georgia election official — demonstrate his determination to maintain a grip on power regardless of the consequences. Once more testing the limits of presidential power, Trump has ventured into uncharted and dangerous territory. He’s the first president who lost an election to try to hang on by rejecting the will of the voters and casting aside the results of the Electoral College enshrined in the Constitution, Jonathan Lemire and Kate Brumback write.
Pence’s Quandary: Vice President Mike Pence has been Trump’s most loyal soldier, dutifully backing the mercurial leader through one chaotic situation after another. Now Pence is facing the most precarious position of his tenure, caught between the president and the Constitution, when he presides over Wednesday’s congressional tally of Electoral College votes. It’s the last front in Trump’s attempts to overturn Biden’s victory. Trump and his supporters are pressuring Pence to intervene even though there’s nothing he can do to reverse the outcome. Pence is expected to hew to his limited, constitutionally mandated role. Zeke Miller and Jill Colvin report. POOL VIA AP PHOTO/STEFAN ROUSSEAU England and Scotland enter full national lockdowns to battle new virus variant
Ten months after its first national lockdown, Britain is again imposing the stiffest restrictions on its people as it tries to control a sky-rocketing surge in coronavirus infections blamed on a more contagious virus variant.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced a new national lockdown for England until at least mid-February, saying in a televised address that people must stay at home again, as they were ordered to do when the pandemic erupted in March, Danica Kirka and Sylvia Hui report from London.
Johnson warned ”the weeks ahead will be the hardest yet” because the virus variant was spreading in a “frustrating and alarming” way. He added that British hospitals are under more pressure from the virus now than at any time during the crisis.
Beginning today, schools and colleges will be closed to in-person learning except for the children of key workers and vulnerable pupils. People were told to work from home unless it’s impossible to do so.
Hours earlier, Scotland’s leader, Nicola Sturgeon, also imposed a lockdown there with broadly similar restrictions that runs until the end of January.
The announcements came on the same day that U.K. health authorities became the first in the world to begin using the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, fueling hopes that life may begin returning to normal by the spring.
British authorities have recorded more than 50,000 new infections daily since passing that milestone for the first time on Dec. 29, and the country’s confirmed death toll is now over 75,000.
France Vaccines: France’s cautious approach to its virus vaccine rollout appears to have backfired. Only about 500 people were vaccinated in the first week, compared to 200,000 in neighboring Germany, rekindling anger over the government’s handling of the pandemic. The slow rollout was blamed on mismanagement, staffing shortages over the holidays and a complex consent policy designed to accommodate vaccine skepticism among the French public. Doctors and opposition politicians are pleading for speedier access to vaccines. Angela Charlton reports from Paris.

INDEPENDENT RECORD VIA AP/THOM BRIDGE US statehouses could prove to be hothouses for virus infection; US regulator weighs in on vaccine dosing debate
As lawmakers around the U.S. convene this winter to confront the COVID-19 pandemic, statehouses themselves could prove to be hothouses for infection.
Many legislatures will start the year meeting remotely, but some Republican-controlled statehouses, from Montana to Pennsylvania, plan to hold at least part of their sessions in person, without requiring masks, Amy Beth Hanson reports.
Public health officials say that endangers the safety of other lawmakers, staffers, lobbyists, the public and the journalists responsible for holding politicians accountable.
The risk is more than mere speculation: An AP tally finds that more than 250 state lawmakers have contracted the virus, and at least seven have died.
In the meantime, the first Americans inoculated against COVID-19 began rolling up their sleeves for their second and final dose.
New York State announced its first known case of the new, more contagious variant, detected in a man in his 60s in Saratoga Springs. Colorado, California and Florida have previously reported infections involving the variant that has been racing through London and southeast England.
The emergence of the variant has added even more urgency to the worldwide race to vaccinate people against the scourge.
EXPLAINER: US regulator weighs in on vaccine dosing debate. The first Americans vaccinated against COVID-19 are getting their second dose while Britain is postponing boosters. Exactly when to give the shots varies by country, and a debate over what’s best is adding to public confusion, Lauran Neergaard reports.
Julian Assange
A British judge rejected a request by the United States to extradite WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange to face espionage charges, saying it would be “oppressive” because of his mental health.
The District Judge said Assange was likely to kill himself if sent to the U.S., Jill Lawless reports from London.
The judge said there was a “real risk” Assange would be sent to the Administrative Maximum Facility in Florence, Colorado. It’s the highest security prison in the U.S., also holding Unabomber Theodore Kaczynski and Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman.
The U.S. government said it would appeal the decision. U.S. prosecutors have indicted Assange on 17 espionage charges and one charge of computer misuse over WikiLeaks’ publication of leaked U.S. military and diplomatic documents a decade ago.
Lawyers for Assange argue that he was acting as a journalist and is entitled to First Amendment protections of freedom of speech for publishing documents that exposed U.S. military wrongdoing in Iraq and Afghanistan. They said they would ask for his release from a London prison where he has been held for more than 18 months at a bail hearing on Wednesday.
Lawyers for the U.S. government denied that Assange was being prosecuted merely for publishing, saying the case “is in large part based upon his unlawful involvement” in the theft of the diplomatic cables and military files by U.S. Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning. Other Top Stories Qatar’s ruling emir has arrived in Saudi Arabia to attend a high-level summit of Arab leaders, following an announcement that the kingdom would end its yearslong embargo on the tiny Gulf state. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani arrival in the kingdom’s ancient desert city of Al-Ula was broadcast live on Saudi TV. He was seen descending from his plane and being greeted with a hug by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Afghan negotiators are to resume talks with the Taliban on a peace deal for their shattered nation amid waning hopes, frustration over a spike in violence and finger-pointing from all sides. The stop-and-go talks also come amid growing doubts over a U.S.-Taliban peace deal brokered by outgoing President Trump. Expectations are low in the new round that starts today as both the government and the Taliban wait to see what the incoming Biden administration’s stance will be. Distrust runs deep and the two sides are still working out how to tackle a daunting agenda that includes power-sharing, a cease-fire, disarming armed groups and preserving civil rights. The New York Stock Exchange says it no longer plans to remove shares of three Chinese state-owned phone carriers under an order by President Trump. The exchange cited “further consultation” with U.S. regulators but gave no other details of its decision. The NYSE announced plans to remove China Telecom Corp. Ltd., China Mobile Ltd. and China Unicom Hong Kong Ltd. after Trump’s order in November barring Americans from investing in companies deemed to be linked to the Chinese military. The Chinese government has accused Washington of misusing national security as an excuse to hamper competition. A new study says the amount of global warming already baked into the air because of past carbon pollution is enough to blow past internationally agreed upon climate limits. The study takes a different look at what’s called committed warming that comes from heat-trapping gases staying in the atmosphere for more than a century. This new way of looking at it says the world’s going to warm another couple degrees from now, going past the goals of the Paris climate accord. But study authors say that baked-in warming can be delayed for centuries depending on what society does next. GET THE APP

25.) POLITICO PLAYBOOK
POLITICO Playbook: Why conventional wisdom in Georgia might be wrong
Presented by Facebook
DRIVING THE DAY
Good morning from Atlanta. This is it, Election Day in Georgia: double-header runoff races that will decide control of the U.S. Senate, the health of JOE BIDEN’S agenda and outgoing President DONALD TRUMP’S standing as a GOP savior or scourge.
Trump’s the rampaging elephant in the china shop of Georgia politics, spending an election eve rally ranting about baseless voter fraud claims that were pre-butted by a top Republican state election official weary of playing conspiracy theory Whac-A-Mole. Conventional wisdom holds that a GOP house divided — by Trump’s “find the votes” election call, and by his relentless attacks on some of the state’s top elected Republicans — can’t stand.
But conventional wisdom isn’t always right. First off, there’s a theory that Trump’s base is uniquely fired up by him getting in fights; angry establishment figures, unflattering headlines and criminal investigations of Trump are all fuel.
More broadly, Georgia is a red shade of purple. Republican Sen. DAVID PERDUE won 88,000 more votes than Democrat JON OSSOFF on Nov. 3 — the race only went to a runoff because Perdue fell just shy of 50 percent to win outright. The Sen. KELLY LOEFFLER vs. RAPHAEL WARNOCK race was more complicated, but the GOP contenders in the multi-candidate “jungle primary” received more votes than the Democratic ones.
So how do Democrats win here in this once ruby-red state? Here are four key benchmarks Georgia insiders are watching:
1. Strong Black voter turnout. This is happening now. African-American voters, who overwhelmingly back Democrats and have the chance to elect the South’s first Black Democratic senator in Warnock, make up 30 percent of the overall voter rolls in Georgia and so far they’ve cast almost 31 percent of the early in-person votes and absentee ballots, according to the website Georgia Votes. The Democratic firm TargetSmart, which models the state’s voter file and has slightly higher proportions of Black voters, determined that Black voters cast nearly 33 percent of the early ballots as of Monday, 3 points more than at the same point in November.
2. Weak Trump voter turnout. While Black voters are turning out in high numbers, voters in Trump strongholds aren’t matching them. That’s why the president held his rally Monday night in Dalton, home to QAnon Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, where the relative paucity of pre-Election Day ballots is concerning the GOP. There’s a reason Loeffler pledged at Trump’s Dalton rally to oppose the Electoral College vote Wednesday confirming Biden’s win. TargetSmart’s data also show that white voters without college degrees statewide are underperforming relative to this point in the November elections.
3. Suburban ticket-splitters. This is a small but hard-to-measure group, but they’re generally modeled as white, suburban and moderate, and they were crucial for Biden, especially in the Atlanta suburbs. They helped Biden beat Trump by 11,799 votes, but many then voted for Perdue, and another 46,000 who voted in the presidential race just didn’t cast ballots in the Senate contest. It’s a sign of anti-Trump bias in the suburbs, but it doesn’t look like a pro-Democrat vote.
4. Total Election Day turnout. Depending on whom you ask in Georgia political circles, the Democratic candidates could be ahead by anywhere from 130,000 to 200,000 votes when all the early ballots are tabulated. So Republicans start the day down, but their voters are more likely to show on Election Day (Perdue lost the early vote by 127,000 but won Election Day by 215,000 in November). Republicans say that a total Election Day turnout of 700,000 voters would probably mean the Democrats would win, and 900,000 voters would likely mean the GOP has the edge. So 800,000 looks like the water line. As of now, the state is on pace for about 770,000 Election Day voters (that’s based on the idea that Election Day voting will be down by the same proportion as early voting when compared to the November elections).
ON THE GROUND — “Thousands of Atlanta Ballots at Risk Ahead of Pivotal Georgia Senate Runoffs as Mail Delays Drag On,” NBCLX: “According to the most recent USPS filings in federal court, the agency was processing just 76% of ballots on-time, as of Dec. 21, in their Atlanta metro region, which covers most of the northern – and most populated – half of the Peach State.
“That means some ballots mailed by Georgia voters 3-5 days before this week’s run-off elections – and even some ballots mailed prior to New Year’s — may not make it to elections offices before the state’s Jan. 5 deadline for the votes to count.”
THE STAKES — “Biden transition hoping for victory but bracing for defeat in Georgia,” by Tyler Pager and Megan Cassella: “Biden’s advisers are privately skeptical about Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock’s chances, Democrats say. And though confidants say that the incoming team’s core priorities for that 100-day agenda will remain the same regardless of the outcome — the pandemic, the recession, climate change and racial inequality — they concede that the scale of their plans could change dramatically come Tuesday evening. …
“Regardless of the outcome, Biden’s top legislative priority will be a stimulus package aimed at distributing funds for states to vaccinate Americans, among other Covid-related priorities. … Items that stand a chance of passage under a Democratic Senate, such as an ambitious government ethics reform package previously crafted by House Democrats, will go nowhere if the Senate is still run by Sen. Mitch McConnell.”
ABOUT LAST NIGHT — “Trump and Biden square off in Georgia on eve of epic Senate runoffs,” Atlanta Journal-Constitution: “At a drive-in rally at a parking lot surrounding old Turner Field, Biden tied the hopes of Senate candidates Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock to the fate of his legislative agenda …
“Despite his attacks on the elections in Georgia, and a litany of complaints and accusations he listed about votes he claimed were illegally cast in November, Trump also urged Republicans to vote Tuesday. … Just as Trump mentioned Loeffler and Perdue, the crowd erupted in chants of ‘Fight for Trump!’”
HOT FOX VIDEO — Bret Baier faced off against Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) Monday night in a testy interview.
ALEX ISENSTADT: “Trump’s Electoral College scheme divides 2024 GOP successors”: “While Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz are setting themselves up as the chief spokesmen for challenging certification of the Electoral College vote, aligning themselves with President Donald Trump, Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton and Nebraska Sen. Ben Sasse are staking out the opposite turf. Other Republicans, like Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott and Vice President Mike Pence, are playing it safe and saying little.
“The debate underscores how fealty to Trump — who might run again himself in 2024 — has emerged as the defining battle line in the fight over the Republican Party’s future. While past primaries have revolved around hot-button issues like health care or immigration, the forthcoming contest is being propelled, so far, by a single question: How loyal should one be to Trump?”
MCCONNELL’S LIGHT TOUCH — “Inside McConnell’s handling of Trump’s election challenge,” by Burgess Everett and Marianne Levine: “Mitch McConnell explicitly warned Senate Republicans not to challenge Joe Biden’s presidential win. But now that a dozen of his members are going there, the GOP leader is taking his thumb off the scale. …
“[S]enators and aides say he is not actively whipping his members to side against Sens. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who are leading the electoral objections in the Senate. Instead, he’s offering guidance when it’s sought, fielding calls from at least half the Senate GOP conference.”
THE LOYAL SOLDIER’S LOYALTY TEST — AP looks at how VP MIKE PENCE is confronting “the most precarious position of his tenure.”
LET THE JOCKEYING BEGIN! — “Democrats start to eye a post-Pelosi era,” by Heather Caygle and Sarah Ferris: “The dynamic could turn awkward over the next two years as younger members begin maneuvering to seize their shot at the top while trying not to alienate the leader they all want to replace. Pelosi still hasn’t definitively said this is her last term but has signaled as much, and is eager to seal her legacy without losing any leverage. …
“Democrats are already closely watching the small cadre of their colleagues whose names have been floated for the top jobs, including Democratic Caucus Chair Hakeem Jeffries, former Black Caucus Chair Karen Bass, and House Intelligence Chair Adam Schiff for speaker. Assistant Speaker Katherine Clark, Vice Chair Pete Aguilar and Progressive Caucus Chair Pramila Jayapal are all also mentioned for high ranking positions.”
CORONAVIRUS CONTINUES TO RAGE … 20.8 million Americans have tested positive. … 354,000 have died.
— “U.S. health officials say they plan to stick with two-dose coronavirus regimen,” WaPo: “In recent days, some public health experts have debated whether it is worth taking a scientific gamble by altering the two-dose regimen that proved highly effective in trials to maximize the number of people partially protected with at least one shot as the pandemic surges. …
“The Food and Drug Administration on Monday evening said it would be ‘premature’ and ‘not rooted solidly in the available evidence’ to change the way the two authorized vaccines are administered.”
— WHAT IT’S COME TO: “Ambulance crews told not to transport patients who have little chance of survival,” L.A. Times
TRUMP’S TUESDAY — The president has nothing on his public schedule. Pence will lead a coronavirus task force meeting at 2:15 p.m. in the Situation Room.
— BIDEN and VP-elect KAMALA HARRIS will meet with transition advisers.

“The system was blinking red.” That was the famous description that George Tenet, the head of the CIA, used after 9/11 to describe the warning signs from analysts — “deep state operatives” in modern parlance — in the summer of 2001. No, Donald Trump and the band assisting him in trying to overturn the 2020 election results are not terrorists. But in a different context — the threat level to American democracy — the system is again blinking red.
Business leaders, defense secretaries and former military leaders, historians, conservative columnists, and strait-laced newspaper reporters are united with concern that exceeds any period of Trump’s presidency. Here’s a survey of statements just from Monday:
“All of us [the 10 living defense secretaries] came to the same conclusion that we are in danger, that we have a commander-in-chief who is not above trying to use the military in order to achieve a political objective.” — William Cohen on CNN on Monday night
“Efforts by some members of Congress to disregard certified election results in an effort to change the election outcome or to try to make a long-term political point undermines our democracy and the rule of law…” — Statement from U.S. Chamber of Commerce CEO Thomas J. Donohue
“This presidential election has been decided and it is time for the country to move forward. President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris have won the Electoral College and the courts have rejected challenges to the electoral process. Congress should certify the electoral vote on Wednesday, January 6. Attempts to thwart or delay this process run counter to the essential tenets of our democracy.” — Statement from some 200 business leaders
“As historians and constitutional scholars as well as citizens, we deplore the effort to disrupt Congressional certification of the results of the 2020 presidential election. Never before in our history has a president who lost re-election tried to stay in office by subverting the democratic process set down by the Constitution.” — Statement from 22 historians and constitutional scholars
“President Trump’s relentless effort to overturn the result of the election that he lost has become the most serious stress test of American democracy in generations, one led not by outside revolutionaries intent on bringing down the system but by the very leader charged with defending it … Mr. Trump and his staff have floated the idea of delaying Mr. Biden’s inauguration, even though it is set in stone by the Constitution … Mr. Trump’s efforts ring familiar to many who have studied authoritarian regimes in countries around the world, like those run by President Vladimir V. Putin in Russia and Prime Minister Viktor Orban in Hungary.” — NYT
“Trump advisers said he is especially bothered … that two Republican politicians he thought would do his bidding, Kemp and Raffensperger, refuse to try to rig the result in his favor.” — WaPo
“[O]n Wednesday, the members of the Hawley-Cruz cohort will violate the oath of office in which they swore to defend the Constitution from enemies ‘foreign and domestic.’ They are its most dangerous domestic enemies.” — George F. Will in WaPo

The contrary view comes from Hugh Hewitt, who argued Monday that all of these intellectuals and elites terrified that the Trump-Hawley-Gohmert Republicans are subverting democracy are “overwrought actors in the never-ending Trump Derangement Syndrome-fueled drama among the Never Trump rump of Republicans and deeply partisan Democrats.” Perhaps he’s correct, but their ranks do seem to be growing fast.
There’s not much of a middle ground here. Either you believe we are witnessing a historic subversion of American democracy or you believe, as Hewitt does, that “any process allowed by law is never a crisis.” And therefore that the constitutionally prescribed objecting that will happen on Wednesday may be regrettable but isn’t a threat to the Republic.
Hope he’s right!

The Morning Briefing: Can the Democrats Start 2021 With Another Stolen Election?
Will Democrat Duplicity Be On Display In Georgia?
Happy, Happy Tuesday, my dear Kruiser Morning Briefing friends. I’m thinking of writing an advice column.
Yesterday when I was writing about what a big week of political drama we had ahead of us I completely neglected to mention the fun we’re about to have in Georgia. I would like to say that there was something deep and planned behind that but it was just old fashioned denial.
The kind of denial that leads to blocking something out completely.
In the immediate post-November election “What next?” hangover I felt that the Georgia runoff situation was going to be OK. I figured that David Perdue was safe. He’d barely missed avoiding the runoff, after all.
The Kelly Loeffler situation was a little bit weirder, however. I don’t know much about her as a candidate but everything I read about her Democratic opponent Raphael Warnock leaves me wondering how that race is even close. By all accounts, Warnock is a whack-job. My colleague Beth Baumann over at Townhall had some election-eve news about him:
Senate hopeful Rev. Raphael Warnock’s (D) campaign staffers were caught admitting that the candidate has far-left policy positions and he frequently lies to Georgians in an attempt to get elected.
“You know police officers are not all good, you know what I am saying? Most of them are bad, we know that,” the campaign’s Director of Small Business Engagement, Sasha Williams said in one of Project Veritas’ undercover video.
According to the campaign’s finance assistant, Derrick Bhole, Warnock has repeatedly lied to Georgia voters about his stance on law enforcement.
“So, he avoids using ‘defunding the police’ because he knows that the Republicans are going to try to grab onto it and attack, right?” Bhole asked rhetorically. “But, in reality, his whole platform with police reform, is along the lines of the same people who are saying ‘defund the police.’”
Even though Warnock supports the Defund the Police movement, Bhole said the candidate decided not to use “the same rhetoric” as others.
So he’s a garden variety progressive cop-hater but he’s pretending not to be.
Warnock also calls himself “Reverend” but he’s very pro-abortion.
And he might win an election in Georgia?
The Peach State was rife with “irregularities” during the general election. My biggest fear is that there hasn’t been enough time to figure it what all of them were yet. And if there is a way to game the system and get a pro-abortion, cop-hater elected to the United States Senate from Georgia, the Democrats will have figured it out.
Many of the conservatives I’ve talked to about this in the past week have expressed resignation that Georgia is a lost cause for the Republicans. That’s not surprising. It’s difficult to be optimistic or have faith in the process after the you-know-what-show of an election we just went through.
The country is well and truly screwed if the Democrats pick up both of these seats.
Hope for the best, prepare for the worst and, again, maybe start working on your Mandarin.

31.) THE DISPATCH
The Morning Dispatch: Trump Rallies for Loeffler and Perdue
Plus: Introducing our new newsletter, Uphill.
The Dispatch Staff | 22 min ago |
Happy Tuesday! And to our readers in Georgia, congratulations: After two exhausting months, you’re about to get your regular old fast food, beer, and car dealership TV commercials back!
Quick Hits: Today’s Top Stories
- British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced stringent new coronavirus lockdown measures yesterday in response to the new, more infectious strain of COVID-19 that has ravaged the United Kingdom in recent weeks. The lockdown—which goes into effect today—requires citizens to remain at home except to shop for necessities, exercise, seek medical treatment, or go to work (if unable to do so from home). Schools will remain open “only for vulnerable children and the children of critical workers,” and the lockdown will extend until at least mid-February.
- Saudi Arabia and Qatar made moves toward ending a yearslong dispute on Monday, with Saudi Arabia opening its airspace and sea routes to Qatar for the first time since 2017. The Trump administration mediated the agreement, which one White House official called “the biggest breakthrough we’ve had to date.”
- Iran announced plans over the weekend to enrich uranium up to 20 percent at its underground Fordo nuclear facility “as soon as possible,” edging its nuclear program closer toward weapons-grade levels.
- The United States confirmed 174,635 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday per the Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 Dashboard, with 10.5 percent of the 1,658,282 tests reported coming back positive. An additional 1,808 deaths were attributed to the virus on Monday, bringing the pandemic’s American death toll to 353,388. According to the COVID Tracking Project, 128,210 Americans are currently hospitalized with COVID-19. According to the Centers for Disease Control, 15,418,500 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been distributed nationwide, and 4,563,260 have been administered.
Trump’s Georgia Rally on Election Eve
Just one day after the Washington Post published a recording of President Trump’s phone call pressuring Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to “find” enough votes to overturn November’s presidential election in the Peach State, Trump made the trek to Georgia in an effort to shore up support for Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue, two incumbent GOP senators whose fate in today’s runoff elections will determine control of Congress’ upper chamber for the next two years.
More than 3 million early and absentee ballots have already been cast, according to Ryan Anderson’s Georgia Votes project, surpassing the Georgia runoff turnout record—2.1 million votes in 2008—with Election Day itself still to come. Georgia doesn’t register voters by party, so it’s difficult to extract any definitive takeaways from this preliminary data. But elections analysts have been parsing these data by other factors—county, congressional district, race—and concluded that Democrats are doing what they need to do to put themselves in a position to complete the upset. (See this helpful piece from Erick Erickson explaining why Perdue in particular may outperform with black farmers in the southern part of the state.)
Trump’s job yesterday, therefore, was to generate enthusiasm among GOP voters and goose Election Day turnout so Perdue and Loeffler can overcome this early deficit. Early on, the president delivered. “Tomorrow, each of you is going to vote in one of the most important runoff elections in the history of our country,” he told the crowd in Dalton, Georgia. “The radical Democrats are trying to capture Georgia’s Senate seats, so they could wield unchecked, unrestrained, absolute power over every aspect of your lives.”
Trump also reassured his fans that Loeffler and Perdue are not on his ever-growing list of Republican enemies, letting GOP consultants and insiders breathe a collective sigh of relief. “Kelly fights for me, David fights for me,” the president said. “That I can tell you.” (The same could not be said for Sen. Mike Lee, who Trump said he is “a little angry at,” or Vice President Mike Pence, who Trump said he won’t like “quite as much” if Pence doesn’t “come through for us” on January 6.)
A New Dispatch Newsletter Appears
Since joining The Dispatch last month, Haley Byrd Wilt has had her hands full reporting on the Hill, doing some editing, and writing some TMD items (for which we are eternally grateful). But today, she is officially kicking off what will become her main focus: Uphill, a twice weekly newsletter drilling down on the people and policy debates dominating the greatest legislative body in the world, the United States Congress.
From Haley:
This is a newsletter for people who want to know more about how their government works. We want to provide insightful, accessible reporting for those who want to understand what’s happening on Capitol Hill but aren’t obsessed with the daily news cycle. We’ll bring you critical yet fair coverage of the people in power. We’ll follow landmark legislation and partisan gridlock as the Biden administration takes power. We will also report on various factions in both parties and how congressional leaders try to keep their parties unified ahead of the 2022 midterms. We’ll try our best not to get caught up in all of the squabbles of the day. We’ll take time to highlight members who are doing good work on important issues like human rights. And you should probably get used to us complaining about each chamber’s remarkably closed legislative process, which restricts debate and limits member involvement.
While this is not meant to be a newsletter for DC insiders—we’ll avoid the kind of Capitol Hill shorthand that’s both confusing and off-putting, and we’ll try to keep our use of caps lock to a minimum—we’re confident members of Congress and their staff will find it an interesting read, too. (Send us tips!)
To receive Uphill in your inbox every Tuesday and Friday, be sure to opt-in by updating your Dispatch account settings here (or go to www.thedispatch.com/account). We’ll send both editions to everyone for the first few weeks, at which point the Friday edition will become restricted to paying Dispatch members only.
Haley’s entire inaugural newsletter is well worth your time, but we’re calling particular attention today to her explainer on tomorrow’s counting of the Electoral College votes, and what you can expect.
Congress will convene in a joint session on Wednesday to count Electoral College votes. More than 100 House Republicans, along with at least a dozen GOP senators, are expected to object to the results in various key states such as Pennsylvania. The move has provoked widespread conflict among Republicans as President Donald Trump’s time in office draws to a close.
GOP lawmakers spent the weekend fighting over the plan, with House GOP Conference Chair Liz Cheney urging members not to support it. Retired former House Speaker Paul Ryan also decried the effort.
“It is difficult to conceive of a more anti-democratic and anti-conservative act than a federal intervention to overturn the results of state-certified elections and disenfranchise millions of Americans,” he said. “The fact that this effort will fail does not mean it will not do significant damage to American democracy.”
And conservatives like Reps. Chip Roy and Thomas Massie argued Congress isn’t meant to dictate election results to the states.
The pushback from various corners of the party hasn’t made a dent in the effort, though.
So, what can we expect on Wednesday? We know already that it will be a long process. But how many hours members will have to debate various slates of electors and vote on the results depends largely on how many states Republican senators are planning to challenge. Rules for the counting of the Electoral College dictate that any objection to a state’s electoral votes must be signed by at least one senator and one representative.
Various House Republicans are expected to challenge results from Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. But it’s not clear that all of these challenges will receive the necessary backing from a GOP senator. The Republican senators who have announced they will object to the results have, unhelpfully, not yet disclosed which specific states they plan to contest.
Worth Your Time
- Dispatch contributor Yuval Levin is one of the most compelling writers and thinkers in the country, and his latest piece for National Review is no exception. In it, he highlights the importance of keeping populist movements from drifting into a fantasy realm (“dealing with reality is what governing consists of”) before turning to the cynicism on display from countless GOP officials in recent weeks. “To knowingly pretend a lie is true is, simply put, to lie,” he writes. “Doing that carefully enough to let you claim you’re only raising questions only makes it even clearer that you know you’re lying. Lying to people is no way to speak for them or represent them. It is a way of showing contempt for them, and of using them rather than being useful to them. This is what too many Republican politicians have chosen to do in the wake of the election. They have decided to feign anger at a problem that cannot be solved because it does not exist, and this cannot help but make them less capable of taking up real problems on behalf of their voters.”
- Last night, Fox News anchor Bret Baier interviewed one of the senators leading the post-election charade, Republican Sen. Josh Hawley from Missouri, whose announcement that he will object to certifying the election for Joe Biden ensured that Congress will go through the convulsions tomorrow that Haley describes above. Baier asked Hawley what should have been an easy question: Why are you doing what you’re doing? And Hawley stumbled. “Are you trying to say that as of January 20, that President Trump will be president?” Baier asked. “Well Bret, that depends on what happens on Wednesday. This is why we have the debate …” Hawley responded, prompting Baier to interject with some reality. “No, it doesn’t. The states — by the Constitution — say they certify the election. They did certify the election. By the Constitution, Congress doesn’t have the right to overturn the certification, at least as most experts read it.” When Hawley protested that he was just taking the opportunity to object on behalf of his constituents who have questions, Baier asked: “Don’t you have a responsibility to your constituents to tell them that it’s not going to be President Trump as of Jan. 21 as well?” The whole thing is a master class in respectful but aggressive interviewing and well worth watching.
- The presidential transfer of power that takes place on Inauguration Day is largely a ritualistic affair, with the former president passing the mantle of power of the people’s government to the new one at the stroke of noon. But there are significant logistical transitions that take place, too—notably, the passing of the “nuclear football,” the briefcase containing communication tools and strike options the president would need in the event of a sudden breakout of nuclear war. Yesterday, a TMD reader sent in an interesting question—how do they handle the football if Trump skips Biden’s inauguration, as it has been reported he might? This Business Insider piece breaks down the answer: “If another nuclear football had not already been prepared, one likely would be before the inauguration. There would be a military aide ready then to begin following Biden as soon as he is sworn in. And, at that time, Trump’s nuclear command and control authority would presumably expire.” Less symbolically powerful than a handoff—but enough to get the job done.
- The new, highly transmissible COVID-19 mutation being in the United States should dramatically increase the urgency of getting vaccines in people’s arms, Zeynep Tufekci writes in a piece for The Atlantic. Experts don’t believe the new variant is more lethal than SARS-CoV-2, but a “more transmissible variant is in some ways much more dangerous than a more severe variant,” Tufekci argues. “The speed of the vaccine rollout is of enormous importance,” she continues. “There is a tsunami heading our way, and we are ferrying people to a high point. Everyone we transport up to the top is safe, but even better, they can also help other people get to safety.”

Georgia races remain Toss-upsWith Election Day voting underway in the crucial Senate runoffs in Georgia, we continue to see both races as Toss-ups. But after an early-voting period where Democrats may have performed better than they did in the lead-up to the November election, Republicans may need to follow suit with an impressive day-of-election performance to defend Sens. David Perdue (R-GA) and Kelly Loeffler (R-GA) against challengers Jon Ossoff (D) and Raphael Warnock (D), respectively. Georgians have cast roughly 3 million votes so far in the contest through early in-person and mail-in voting. Even without accounting for any Election Day votes, this is an impressive turnout, about 60% of the roughly 5 million votes cast in Georgia’s high-turnout November election. The last time Georgia had a Senate runoff, in 2008, only 2.1 million votes were cast compared to 3.9 million votes cast for president in the general election. So a dozen years ago, turnout in the runoff was just a little more than half that of the general election, and then-Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) won the runoff by 15 points after leading in the November vote by just three points. The turnout in these runoffs as a percentage of the general election vote is going to be markedly higher than in 2008. The key question is how much higher. The votes cast before Election Day in these Senate runoffs may be more Democratic leaning than those cast before the November general election. Perhaps the most encouraging data point for Democrats is that the Black voter share of the pre-Election Day vote is up a few points from the pre-Election Day Black vote in the general election. Given that Black voters overwhelmingly support Democrats, any increase in the Black share of the electorate is very important. Democrats probably need a better electorate in the runoff than they got in November, because even though Biden narrowly won, Perdue ran a little under two points ahead of Ossoff in his election, and the combined Republican vote outpaced the combined Democratic vote in the jungle primary special election by about a point. In other words, if the two Senate elections held in November had been conventional contests with a single Democrat facing a single Republican with no runoff, Perdue would have been reelected and a Republican very well could have won the other race, too. In the general election, about 80% of all votes were cast before Election Day. Joe Biden won this chunk of votes by about six points. Donald Trump won the Election Day votes by 23 points, which got him within a few tenths of a percentage point of winning, but he fell short. If Democrats have done better in the pre-Election Day vote this time, then Republicans either need to win the Election Day vote by more than Trump did, or have the Election Day electorate make up a bigger share of the total votes cast (and still vote heavily Republican). Could this happen? Sure. It may be that some Republicans who voted before Election Day in the general election will switch to day-of voting this time, perhaps in response to President Trump’s endless and unfounded complaints about the integrity of the Georgia election — complaints he reiterated in an Election Eve Georgia rally last night. More broadly, the voting patterns and methods of a post-holiday runoff may be different than those of a general election. This may be an oversimplification, but our sense is that if total turnout runs north of 4 million, and particularly if it’s clearly more than 4 million, the Republicans probably are getting a large enough Election Day turnout to win. If turnout runs south of 4 million, the Democrats may be in good shape given their likely advantage in the votes already cast, which constitute a healthy chunk of the eventual total. Our uncertainty about what the turnout ultimately will be is why we’ve decided to keep both races as Toss-ups. Polling hasn’t provided much clarity beyond reinforcing a Toss-up rating: Democrats have led more often than Republicans, but often only by a little, with some polls showing a dead tie. Much has been made of how the president’s efforts to question the legitimacy of the election will affect the behavior of Republican voters in the runoff. Will his complaints motivate Republicans to show up on Election Day, powering Republicans to victory and saving the GOP Senate majority? Or will they depress Republican turnout, either because a crucial number of GOP voters will believe that their votes don’t matter or because the president’s outrageous behavior — as once again demonstrated in a weekend phone call to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R) — has turned off even some of his own electorate or pushed some cross-pressured voters to the Democrats. This, too, is a question mark, and it may have bearing on future Republican behavior. If Republicans lose the runoffs, and with them the Senate, it may push Republican leaders to distance themselves from the outgoing president and his rhetoric. If Republicans hold the seats and generate a high turnout, the lesson for Republicans may be that the president’s rage is a powerful electoral motivator even when he isn’t on the ballot himself. Remember, Democrats need to sweep both races to forge a 50-50 Senate that they would control through Vice President-elect Kamala Harris’ (D) tiebreaking vote. Holding just one of the seats would be good enough for Republicans to retain a 51-49 majority (or 52-48 if they hold both). We do expect both races to break toward the same party, although there could be a split decision if both races are very close. For more on the Senate runoffs, check out our detailed preview from right before the holiday break. We plan to react to the results whenever we get a good sense as to who the winners are — that could be as soon as Wednesday, or it could drag on for days if one or both races are very close. The ‘Great Reset’ is about expanding government power and suppressing liberty
Posted: 05 Jan 2021 05:07 AM PST World Economic Forum Founder and Executive Chairman Klaus Schwab has proposed using the overreaction to coronavirus to launch a worldwide “Great Reset.” This Great Reset is about expanding government power and suppressing liberty worldwide. Schwab envisions an authoritarian system where big business acts as a partner with government. Big business would exercise its government-granted monopoly powers to maximize value for “stakeholders,” instead of shareholders. Stakeholders include the government, international organizations, the business itself, and “civil society.” Of course, government bureaucrats and politicians, together with powerful special interests, will decide who are, and are not, stakeholders, what is in stakeholders’ interest, and what steps corporations must take to maximize stakeholder value. People’s own wishes are not the priority. The Great Reset will dramatically expand the surveillance state via real-time tracking. It will also mandate that people receive digital certificates in order to travel and even technology implanted in their bodies to monitor them. Included in Schwab’s proposal for surveillance is his idea to use brain scans and nanotechnology to predict, and if necessary, prevent, individuals’ future behavior. This means that anyone whose brain is “scanned” could have his Second Amendment and other rights violated because a government bureaucrat determines the individual is going to commit a crime. The system of tracking and monitoring could be used to silence those expressing “dangerous” political views, such as that the Great Reset violates our God-given rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The Great Reset involves a huge expansion of the welfare state via a universal basic income program. This can help ensure compliance with the Great Reset’s authoritarian measures. It will also be very expensive. The resulting increase in government debt will not be seen as a problem by people who believe in modern monetary theory. This is the latest version of the fairy tale that deficits don’t matter as long as the Federal Reserve monetizes the debt. The Great Reset ultimately will fail for the same reason all other attempts by government to control the market fail. As Ludwig von Mises showed, government interference in the marketplace distorts the price system. Prices are how information about the value of goods and services related to other goods and services is conveyed to market actors. Government interference in the marketplace disturbs the signals sent by prices, leading to an oversupply of certain goods and services and an undersupply of others. The lockdowns show the dangers of government control over the economy and our personal lives. Lockdowns have increased unemployment, caused many small businesses to close, and led to more substance abuse, domestic violence, and suicide. We are told the lockdowns are ordered because of a virus that poses no great danger to a very large percentage of the American public. Yet, instead of adopting a different approach, politicians are doubling down on the failed policies of masks and lockdowns. Meanwhile, big tech companies, which are already often acting as partners of government, silence anyone who questions the official line regarding the threat of coronavirus or the effectiveness of lockdowns, masks, and vaccines. The disastrous response to Covid is just the latest example of how those who give up liberty for safety or health will end up unfree, unsafe, and unhealthy. Instead of a Great Reset of authoritarianism, we need a great rebirth of liberty! Via Ron Paul Institute. To Ted Cruz et al.: Please object to ALL contested states, not just one
Posted: 05 Jan 2021 04:22 AM PST Depending on which outlet with which anonymous sources you read, Senators Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, and the dozen or so others who plan to object to electors during Wednesday’s joint session of Congress will only be objecting to one, possibly two states. Some speculate that other than Hawley’s objection to Pennsylvania, that there will be no other actual objections. I seriously doubt these rumors because of the blatant insult it would be to those who have supported these efforts. But just in case, let me go ahead and say for the record that doing so would be idiotic. We get enough virtue signaling from the left. For conservatives to lodge a symbolic single complaint with no teeth attached to a likely impossible call for an “Election Commission” is actually worse than if you sat back and did nothing. We don’t need one state in order to correct this fraudulent election. We need a combination of three or more, depending on the mix, to be properly awarded to President Trump. And considering that there are mountains of evidence of massive voter fraud in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Georgia, Wisconsin, Arizona, and Nevada, as well as several others which are not listed as contested, it’s imperative that you object to all six at the very least. If this is done right, it will be the first time tens of millions of Americans get to hear just how bad the voter fraud really was. Anyone who watches, listens to, or reads mainstream media as their primary source of news has only had hints of voter fraud evidence put before them. In most cases, it’s only done in an effort by complicit media “fact-checkers” to debunk that voter fraud even occurred. They’ve been inundated with lies that dozens, even hundreds of lawsuits have been tossed. You, as United States Senators who have sworn an oath to defend and support the Constitution, are given the stage on Wednesday. Whether mainstream media likes it or not, the people will be watching. They’ll want to see and hear why you’re objecting. If you only do so with one state, even Chris Cuomo will be able to do the math for them to show that flipping Pennsylvania OR Georgia OR Michigan will not make a difference. They need to know that there are 79 electors at the very least in question, more than enough to cast doubt on the legitimacy of former Vice President Joe Biden’s alleged “win.” Again, if that’s not the plan and the various conservative sites (many of whom I respect) are getting faulty information, then I’ll apologize up front. But just in case you guys are planning some milquetoast, pseudo-attempt to object to a state or two, please take my word for it that doing so will not be received well. Let’s hope Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, and the rest of the Senators who say they will object to electors are not planning on going after one or two states. There are at least six contested states and all of them need objections. COVID-19 lockdowns are taking down an independent news outletNobody said running a media site would be easy. We Americans better all wake the hell up. Marxism is upon us.
Posted: 05 Jan 2021 03:03 AM PST LEPROSY [HANSEN’S DISEASE]If you are a student of the Bible or of history you definitely remember Jesus Christ healing the leper and you also recall Father Damien, the Belgian priest who came to Hawaii and gave his life ministering to lepers at Kalaupapa on the Island of Molokai. But do you have any idea how leprosy affects the body? “Nerve damage may result in a lack of ability to feel pain, which can lead to the loss of parts of a person’s extremities from repeated injuries or infection due to unnoticed wounds.” Think about that for a minute. None of us likes to feel pain. But consider what would happen if we were unable to feel pain. Why do we have pain? What is the purpose of pain? Pain is a warning signal that something is hurting us, injuring us, threatening us, potentially even killing us. If you touch a hot stove, you remove your hand as quickly as possible. If you didn’t feel pain, but left your hand there, you would have third degree burns and irreparable damage before you know it. God designed our bodies to feel pain to warn us to seek immediate relief and avoid further damage. Right now, the United States of America is in severe pain. We are told to ignore it. They call us unpatriotic if we just don’t go with the flow and accept the status quo. We are being lulled into complacency by those who are inflicting the pain and who seek to harm us and our nation. If we do not sense pain and take proper action to counteract it, our national leprosy will spell our demise. DEATH BY A THOUSAND CUTS“Lingchi (Chinese: 凌遲), translated variously as the slow process, the lingering death, or slow slicing, and also known as death by a thousand cuts, was a form of torture and execution used in China from roughly 900 until it was banned in 1905.” “In this form of execution, a knife was used to methodically remove portions of the body over an extended period of time, eventually resulting in death.” In “psychology, the way a major negative change which happens slowly in many unnoticed increments is not perceived as objectionable.” [References courtesy of Wikipedia] So, do you see what I’m getting at here? China has been inflicting slow death upon America for many years and because it has been so subtle and so insidious, we have not noticed it and now we are on our national death bed. All that awaits is for the last rites to be administered at 12 noon on January 20, 2021, in Washington DC, when Joseph Robinette Biden becomes the 46th President of the United States and the first ever puppet of the Chinese Communist Party to sit in the Oval Office. At that moment America as the Founders intended it, and as we know it, will have ended forever. Our Republic will have succumbed to our Chinese Masters in Death by a Thousand Cuts. Do you think that Xi Jinping is not fully aware of this ancient method of torture and death of a hated enemy? STRANGE BEDFELLOWSKarl Marx and Muhammad had different ideological tyrannical approaches toward achieving world domination. If you observe the Uyghurs of East Turkestan [China’s Xinjiang Province], you see that these two ideologies often conflict with one another. But if you see how the Chinese Communist Party regime in Beijing and the Islamic Republic of Iran in Tehran cooperate with one another against the United States and all Western countries, all the time oppressing their own peoples, you see that ideology does not prevent them from working together to achieve a mutual objective against a mutual target. That. Target. Is. Us. On the domestic front, China and Iran have worked together to steal the 2020 presidential election in the United States. They have suborned traitors from among our own ranks at all levels of government. On the foreign front, China threatens America and our allies in the South China Sea and the Western Pacific. Iran threatens America and our allies in the Middle East, particularly Israel. As I have previously written extensively on this subject, I won’t go into too much detail here. However, threats by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani against the life of President Donald Trump must be taken very seriously as retaliation is sought for the assassination of IRGC General Soleimani a year ago. This is not a matter that should be dealt with only when an actual attempt is made. Whatever preemptive action is necessary must be taken. If FDR knew about Pearl Harbor, it wouldn’t have happened and if GWB knew about 9/11, it also would have been prevented. So what are we waiting for? Have we only had 999 cuts thus far? Have we taken such a psychological sedative that we no longer sense the pain and the imminent danger? There have been four assassinations of United States presidents, the last one being JFK in 1963. Most of you today or not as old as I am and don’t remember the horror of that dark day in November. Until the Warren Commission report is fully declassified, we may never fully know exactly with whom Lee Harvey Oswald collaborated. But we have no proven assassination of an American president by a foreign power at this time. We sure as hell are not about to let one happen on our watch! Iran has operatives within the United States, including many with their Hezbollah surrogates. Just as Iran has now achieved enrichment of uranium in their intended threat to wipe out Israel, they are totally serious about their desire to eliminate Donald Trump as an obstacle to their warped version of the apocalypse. Shia Islam seeks to summon back the 12th or Hidden Imam, or Mahdi, to establish Iran’s domination of the world. At some point, this would come to loggerheads with the CCP’s effort to impose Marxism globally. But, that would be far too late to save America. Right now, they are working together to destroy us. AMERICA’S WAKE UP CALLThe bombing of Pearl Harbor awakened the sleeping giant. Between 1941 and 1945, the United States worked with our allies to defeat tyranny both in the Pacific and in Europe before it ever reached our own shores. But now, it is already here inside our own country. It came in such a subtle manner over such a long period of time that we didn’t perceive it before it was too late. Technically, as of today, it is not too late. But 15 days from now on January 20th, it definitely will be too late if we don’t do something before then. But, who is it that needs to wake up? The answer is all of us. The entire Administration, Congress and Supreme Court. Every Governor and State Legislature. Every Mayor and City Council. But more than that. Every one of the 330 million Americans. Us. You and I. The alarm is going off full blast. Do not hit the snooze button and just roll over go back to sleep. SEPARATING THE WHEAT FROM THE CHAFFTomorrow, January 6th, we will know for sure who are the Patriots and who are the Traitors. It won’t be determined by whether they have a [D] or an [R] after their name. It will be whether they can ascertain the difference between platitudes and political expediency on the one hand and responding to the urgency of the moment on the other. We don’t need any lectures right now about the danger of setting precedents during the Joint Session of Congress. That may be a legitimate concern which can be addressed later, whether by statute or even by constitutional amendment. Now is not the time for timidity. Now is the time for action. The harder a politician tries to preserve his or her legacy, the more likely he or she is to destroy it in the process. Stand up for America. Recognize the symptoms of pain and respond accordingly lest we all die by a thousand cuts. REMEMBERING WHO WE ARE AND HOW WE GOT HEREThose who survived the tyranny of the Chinese Communist Party and the scourge of Marxism, such as those at Epoch Times, are doing their utmost to try to warn us here in America that we are on the verge of losing our freedoms and suffering the same fate. That from which they fled is only the blink-of-an-eye away from taking over the USA. As I sat last night listening to American patriot Lee Greenwood singing The Battle Hymn of the Republic, America the Beautiful and God Bless America, I asked myself: how did we get to this point? What happened to our understanding of history and our love for our own special country? When did self-loathing and hatred for all things American become the soup du jour? I believe it all comes down to being able to think for ourselves. We must avoid groupthink. We don’t need to be taught what to think. We need to learn how to think for ourselves. We must be able to ascertain right from wrong. We must be able to recognize rumors and propaganda and disinformation. Or fake news as it is now called. Remember that everyone who tries to persuade you to follow rather than to think for yourself has a hidden agenda. In our American Republic, there is absolutely no danger in every voter being able to think for himself or herself and to make a wise informed decision when casting a ballot. The fact that legally cast votes would be discarded and replaced by fraudulent ones reveals that the enemy knows that free thought is the antidote to their nefarious schemes. There was no way they could convince the majority of the American people to vote for an incompetent and unpatriotic candidate with the corruption of Joe Biden. So, they just disenfranchised us by stealing the election and discarding our votes. THESE NEXT 15 DAYSThe fortnight that lies ahead will be the watershed in world history. I can’t predict the outcome on Capitol Hill January 6th. Neither can any individual Senator or Representative. Even the collusion of Mitch McConnell and Nancy Pelosi cannot predetermine that outcome. It will depend upon each and every Senator and every Member of the House of Representatives searching their heart of hearts and putting America first. Don’t ask whether you can survive a Biden-Harris Administration. That is the wrong consideration. Perhaps you can survive one minor cut, maybe even two or three. But before you know it, it’ll be a thousand. Then it will be forever too late. Congress is not our last resort, nor is the U.S. Supreme Court. Whether Mitch McConnell and/or John Roberts has gone over to the dark side does not become the death knell of our Republic. At some point, all of the classified information in the Kraken needs to be made available to the American public. Undoubtedly President Trump, Secretary of Defense Miller, Director of National Intelligence Ratcliff and some others know the whole story. What Sidney Powell has given to the court is only a sampling and not the entire dosage of the damning evidence against interference in this election by our enemies in China and Iran. I admonish everyone in the know to act preemptively and timely. There is really no reason for President Trump as Commander-in-Chief to withhold anything at this juncture. For God’s sake, pull out all the stops. Do everything necessary to save America. If you let Joe Biden swear an insincere oath of office on January 20th, America as we know it will be lost. I honestly don’t know how I can say it any more clearly and succinctly than that. I have previously alluded to the American Lung Association and the commercials that say when you cannot breathe, nothing else matters. Well, right now our American Republic is suffocating and all that matters is that we do everything necessary to keep it breathing the fresh air of freedom! There was 1776! There was 1861! Now there is 2021! There was George Washington! There was Abraham Lincoln! Now there is Donald Trump! Joseph Biden is the alter ego of Jefferson Davis! We shall forever remain the UNITED States of America! COVID-19 lockdowns are taking down an independent news outletNobody said running a media site would be easy. Moderna’s mRNA injections are an ‘operating system’ designed to program humans and hack their biological functions
Posted: 05 Jan 2021 02:59 AM PST The experimental injections being rolled out by Moderna and Pfizer are nothing similar to traditional vaccines. These mRNA platforms are an “operating system” designed to program human beings and turn their cells into efficient drug delivery systems. Article originally published at Natural News. Moderna is now going public with the real intentions behind the mRNA platform. The mRNA technology platform is similar to a computer operating system, the company admits. Scientists prepare a unique mRNA sequence that codes for a specific protein. Once injected into humans, this program is carried out in the individual’s body, at the cellular level. The mRNA platform is where Big Pharma merges with Big Tech, enslaving human beings to a controlling system designed to profit from their cellular and biological functions into the unforeseeable future. Moderna admits that healthy immune systems are a threat to their mRNA platformAs mRNA platforms go live on human populations, Moderna admits that healthy human immune responses can actually destroy the mRNA sequences before they get into the person’s cells. The immune system may attack the program and its RNA fragments, leading to negative outcomes that could include molecular deficiencies, hormonal defects, etc. If the protein folding is disrupted, the proteins may never achieve their desired functionality, leading to partial development of antigens that never confer targeted immunity to coronavirus spike proteins. The body may turn on its own cells in the process, causing hyper-inflammatory responses and autoimmune issues that are the precursor to organ failure and various disease processes. During the so-called pandemic, public health officials were mum on the actions people should take to mount a healthy immune response to infection. Now we know why these public health officials were telling people they must wait on a vaccine to go back to normal. The people behind the mRNA experimentation of humans are building psychological justification and scientific precedent to declare human immune systems incapable. In this way, people will submit their bodies to the latest mRNA programs as they become dependent on the biological software that have been created for them. This is an open door toward trans-humanism, and millions of people are buying into it. By casting shame on human immune systems, drug companies have also found the perfect alibi for when their experiments cause injury in humans. It’s not the injected technology that is causing allergic reactions, seizures, infertility and death, claim the drug companies… It’s the individual’s human’s immune system that is causing all the pain and misery, they demand. The drug companies will demand that more carefully crafted mRNA programs and interventions will be needed to “perfect” human beings. The new mRNA vaccines are dependency programs, designed to manipulate and enslave human biological functionsModerna brags that “several hundred scientists and engineers are solely focused on advancing Moderna’s platform technology.” These scientists are attempting to “hack” humans with bio-information and make populations dependent on the technology. Moderna has even dubbed their mRNA platform the ‘Software of Life.’ These scientists are looking for ways to help the foreign mRNA avoid immune detection. They are also experimenting with ways to trick the cell’s ribosomes into processing the mRNA as if it was natural. They are also plotting ways to instruct the human cells to produce the artificial proteins long term. Moderna was founded on the success of using modified RNA to reprogram the function of a human stem cell, therefore genetically modifying it. As these RNA “operating systems” are installed in human bodies, it becomes even more clear that drug companies are looking to genetically modify and own human proteins while controlling biological processes for generations to come. On both a psychological and physiological level, human beings are being branded like cattle as they submit to these mRNA software programs. This system is not medicine, nor is it vaccination. This system is complete cellular manipulation, using foreign biological molecules to code, decode, regulate, change the expression of, and alter the physiological instructions within human beings. Watch Dr. Carrie Madej explain how this new vaccine platform can change the way we live, who we are, what we are.

Wisconsin legislature moves towards decertifying electors
Posted: 05 Jan 2021 02:22 AM PST There has been a tricky game being played by the state legislatures in some of the contested states following the fraudulent presidential election. The Republican majorities in states like Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Georgia generally want to decertify electors, but they’re faced with multiple dilemmas. The biggest one is optics; thanks in large part to mainstream media ignoring and Big Tech suppressing credible reports of massive voter fraud, millions of voters in these states are left without a clue about why decertification is necessary. It appears Wisconsin is the first state to take a serious stab at it. Others have written letters and made proclamations, but the Wisconsin legislature is the first to make a move through a resolution. This is an important distinction because doing so is the first solid expression of the plenary powers over electors granted to state legislatures by the United States Constitution. According to popular Twitter patriot Mαχιмυs Ɗeploяaвιlιѕ:
The resolution in question is not a direct action to decertify. It is an opening volley to allow for decertification coupled with punitive actions against those who allowed vote fraud to be perpetrated, most commonly in the executive branch. As Maximus notes, this is a resolution and therefore does not require the Governor’s signature. In essence, this is a statement that, if passed, can be used as the predicate to officially take back the legislature’s power over electors (though some will argue that the power was never removed regardless of state laws or state constitution mandates) so they can then decertify the electors selected for Joe Biden. This resolution will likely be voted on when the legislative session begins on Thursdays. As some have noted, this falls after Congress meets in a joint session to count electoral votes, so it’s unclear if decertification is even possible at that point. But President Trump has promised to keep fighting even after January 6th and as our EIC noted last week, January 6th is not the true end date for challenges. Perhaps the biggest boost to this gambit would happen if Vice President Mike Pence, acting as President of the Senate, chooses to delay the electoral vote count. He has that power in spite of the Electoral Count Act. There are many legal workarounds and precedents. The easiest would be to accept the proposed formation of an Election Commission by Senator Ted Cruz and others. That would establish a 10-day emergency audit of contested votes as well as investigations into irregularities. Doing this would allow state legislatures during regular session to make the appropriate moves to correct their slates. Here’s the draft Wisconsin resolution reformatted for easier reading: Relating to: addressing election law violations. Whereas, in the United States, the power to govern is given by the people through the process of democratic elections. It is by this process that our government obtains legitimacy; and Whereas, we have three branches of government, and the legislative branch, consisting of duly elected representatives of the people, is the branch charged with the power to write the laws. It is through this process that our government maintains legitimacy; and Whereas, when the executive branch or administrative agencies charged with enforcing the laws instead choose to step outside of the law, or go beyond the law, or stretch the law to something other than what is written, the legitimacy of the government begins to erode; and Whereas, the 2020 election and the recount of the results of the presidential election have brought to light a number of areas in which the letter of the law is not being followed. Those circumstances of departure from the letter of the law include, but are not limited to, the following:
Whereas, without legitimacy, the government of the people, by the people, and for the people shall not stand. Instead, our government will devolve into a system of coercion and bribery that seeks to use the guise of elections to hold a degree of credibility; and Whereas, the people of Wisconsin are demanding that the legislature address questions of legitimacy; now, therefore, be it Resolved by the assembly, That: the Wisconsin State Assembly recognizes that the most important function for a government is to conduct fair and honest elections that follow the duly enacted law; and, be it further Resolved, That when there are significant portions of the population that question the integrity of the elections due to the failure of election officials to follow the letter of the law, it is incumbent upon the legislature to address the issues that are in question; and, be it further Resolved, That the members of the Wisconsin State Assembly place the redress to these and other election law violations and failed administrative procedures as its highest priority and shall take up legislation crafted to ensure civil officers follow the laws as written. It’s a longshot, but at this point every shot that has a chance is a worthy cause. The nation and the Constitution are under direct attack from enemies foreign and domestic. It’s okay to ignore the ‘let’s be realistic’ crowd who have given up on fighting the fraudulent election
Posted: 04 Jan 2021 10:48 PM PST Monday was a good day for President Trump. It started with a bombshell, followed by a bombshell, and continued with a bombshell. By afternoon I gave up on keeping up with all of the bombshells, opting instead to focus on the bombshells I thought had the best chance of changing hearts and minds. That’s what’s needed right now. We need as many Americans to be aware of the gross voter fraud that occurred. Trust me, most are clueless, especially if they still get their news from CNN or Fox News. But Monday also brought a “heart-to-heart” conversation with a close friend. Also a conservative, this friend wanted to “clue me in” on the way things were going to go down on Wednesday when both chambers of Congress meet to count electoral voters. This friend alerted me that all of the objections will be shot down because there was no chance any Democrats or a even a majority of Republicans would back them. This friend also told me my belief that the Supreme Court could still act even after January 6th is ludicrous. Keep in mind, this friend is a staunch supporter of President Trump who had been to no fewer than a dozen rallies leading up to the election. My friend also fought to get state legislatures to send different electors, to investigate voter fraud, or both. But alas, the race is over, according to the friend, and we may not like it but it’s time to stop fighting. In lieu of trying to stop Joe Biden from stealing the election, we’re supposed to accept that we were robbed and work our butts off over the next four years to resist and oppose what the new administration is going to do. In short, I was told to be realistic. I appreciate the sentiment, and I told this friend my certainty that President Trump would be reelected had fallen from around 85% to 50% since Christmas. The friend asked how I could believe there’s a 50/50 chance the President could still win when most of his knowledgeable peers told him the chances were down to zero. I told this friend, who is also a Christian, that there’s no such thing as a zero percent chance of anything happening in a world with an all-powerful God above us. As for why I’m still fairly confident, it’s because we have the truth on our side. Voter fraud did happen. Of this, I am certain. I am also certain that it was so widespread, it changed the results of the election. Being on the side of truth is the good news. The bad news is we have mainstream media, Big Tech, foreign powers, every Democrat, and a majority of Republican lawmakers who are unwilling to allow the truth to come out. In the face of such opposition, it’s easy to understand why many have completely lost hope. It’s in the fact that we have the truth on our side that I maintain my confidence. Our Lord despises lies. He is the truth, which means His antithesis is anything that is false. Now, by no means does that mean God acts in this world against all liars. Considering that everyone is a liar to some extent, that’s a good thing or we’d all be doomed. Many liars get away with their falsehoods. Many major aspects of society today are built on a foundation of lies. But there’s something about THIS particular batch of lies that screams for divine intervention. To me, there are only two possibilities. Either God’s plan will reveal the truth or in some way correct the fraudulent election or His plan is for us to face earthly tribulation by having our nation submit to the liars. Both options are equally possible since both require God’s plan, which only He knows fully, to come to pass. Until we know for certain one way or the other, 50/50 is the best guess the faithful can possibly have. It’s His will, after all. Our role is to keep fighting the good fight. There’s a silver lining to so many losing hope. I’ve long said that it will take a miracle, unambiguous and clearly divine, for the election results to be corrected. My wife often says, “They’re just not going to let him win.” To this, I reply that it’s not up to them. I have invoked the story of Gideon on multiple posts and podcasts, but for a refresher, here’s the overview: God told Gideon to form an army of Israelites to defeat the Midianites. The Midianite army was much larger than anything Gideon could hope to put together, but he did as he was told. He gathered 32,000 men from the various tribes, at which point God told him the army was too large. It was much smaller than the Midianites’, but it was large enough that some may still believe the coming victory was due to having such a strong army. So, he told Gideon to send home anyone who didn’t want to fight. That brought them down to 10,000 men. God then said that the army was still too big. Despite only 10,000 men taking on hundreds of thousands, it could still be said that great strategies or superior soldiers won the fight. So God told Gideon to take the men to the river to drink. Those who lapped the water up like dogs instead of cupping their hands and bringing the water to their mouths would be his army. 300 men were all that was left of the army, at which point God sent Gideon to war. And they won. Of course. Nobody doubted that God’s hand brought victory to the Israelites because 300 men could never defeat hundreds of thousands on their own. The same could be said about our current situation. If Rudy Giuliani had argued a case before the Supreme Court last month, it would have been Rudy Giuliani who received the glory. If state legislatures did as they should have done and decertified the election results in late November or early December, it would have been men and women working through the system. If God chooses to bless us with a Trump victory at this late stage in the game, it will be a miracle. This is why I still believe the “MOAB“—Mother Of All Bombshells—will drop when we least expect it. No, I’m not trying to “predict” what God will do, but if it comes now or any moment going forward, we need to recognize that it was His blessing on the nation and His condemnation of lies that made it happen. When people who know the truth start losing hope in its ability to make a difference, we breed nihilism and bitterness. We have the truth about election fraud on our side. Lord willing, that truth shall emerge soon enough. COVID-19 lockdowns are taking down an independent news outletNobody said running a media site would be easy. Georgia state senators call on Pence to delay Jan. 6 electoral vote
Posted: 04 Jan 2021 09:54 PM PST Republican state senators in Georgia started a push on Monday to delay the Jan. 6 counting of electoral votes. At least a dozen have signed a letter directed to Vice President Mike Pence asking him to officially delay the count—and the number is still growing. Article originally published at The Epoch Times. “There’s about 16 or 18 of us now that signed this letter to the Vice President … asking him to delay the electoral vote for 10 to 12 days,” Sen. Brandon Beach told The Epoch Times. “We were going to get it to him tomorrow morning,” Beach said, adding that more Senators might still sign on. Beach says that he is concerned about the integrity of the election. “People are saying yeah there is something here, there’s something that just doesn’t pass the smell test—that there was some irregularities, there was some impropriety going on in the voting process,” he said. Ballots and voting machines need to be forensically audited, especially in Fulton county, said Beach. The biggest concerns he has relate to the State Farm Arena’s vote-tabulation center in Atlanta. It appears that a state election monitor was absent for a part of the counting process and that Republican poll watchers were led to believe the counting was over when it in fact wasn’t. Coincidentally, Jenna Ellis, a senior legal adviser to the Trump campaign and one of Trump’s campaign attorney suggested on Monday that Pence delay certifying the votes on Jan. 6 and instead ask legislatures in the six contested states to clarify which candidate’s slate of electors should be approved. “What Mike Pence could do, and what he should do, in fact, is to direct a question back to the state legislatures when there are two competing slates of delegates from these six states. “He can ask that question to the states and say, ‘Well, state legislators, you know, I have an oath to the Constitution to uphold the Constitution as written in Article II Section 1.2, which says the state legislatures direct the manner in which electoral delegates are selected, so you tell me which of these two slates was selected in the manner that your state general assembly has designated,’” Ellis told Just the News television show The Water Cooler. When Beach was asked if they had discussed anything relating to certifying the state’s electoral votes, he said: “If the Vice President is able to take our letters to postpone, then we would be in session and we could discuss what we could maybe do as a state senate in a state house. “Right now, we can’t do anything because we’re not in session,” he added. Georgia’s governor Brian Kemp previously refused to call a special session to consider claims of election fraud and other irregularities. Other state senators in Georgia, including Beach, recognize it is highly unlikely for a special session to be called in the state as things stand now. “Since Congress meets Wednesday regarding the electoral college vote, a special session before they meet is not an option,” state Senator Kay Kirkpatrick told The Epoch Times via email. “But I will continue to fight for the truth.” “I am working every day to get to the facts of any and all fraud reports,” she added. “It is critical that we can trust our election system. I have been dividing my time between looking into all aspects of the Nov. 3 election and trying to get our two U.S. Senators re-elected.” Beach said he and other senators called for the delay so they “can continue to have more time to investigate and scan these ballots.” The senator said he also wrote an individual letter to Pence as a member of the state’s judiciary subcommittee. State senators in other states have also started a similar push, according to Beach. “I think several senators from Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Arizona also wrote letters sent to the Vice President, [telling him] we want the vice president to at least delay it 10 to 12 days.” Under the Constitution, Jan. 20 is the date where officially, “The terms of the President and the Vice President shall end … of the years in which such terms would have ended if this article had not been ratified; and the terms of their successors shall then begin.” Beach said he is doing all of this because he wants to get to the bottom of it. “I’ve had my cell phone on my website and on my senate sites for eight years, I have never received any calls,” he said. “I may have gotten a call here now and then but after this—my phone has blown up, my email has blown up, my text messages have blown up.” “People are angry, they’re mad, they feel disenfranchised,” he added. Why did the U.S. Attorney for Northern Georgia (Atlanta and Fulton County) just resign?
Posted: 04 Jan 2021 03:41 PM PST This could be nothing. Or it could be huge. The U.S. attorney who has Atlanta and Fulton County in his district abruptly resigned today, citing “unforeseen circumstances.”
U.S. Attorney Byung “BJay” Pak had scheduled to resign on Inauguration Day, as is often the custom for Department of Justice appointees when a new administration comes in. But instead, he tendered his resignation Monday morning. According to Talking Points Memo: The U.S. attorney in Atlanta departed his post Monday, TPM has learned, after previously indicating that he would not leave until Inauguration Day. The reason for U.S. Attorney Byung “BJay” Pak’s change of plans are not clear. In an internal email announcing his departure obtained by TPM, Pak cited only “unforeseen circumstances” as the reason he was leaving Monday rather than Jan. 20. A spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s office confirmed the resignation on Monday evening, hours after this story was originally published, but could not provide any more details. A spokesperson for the DOJ’s headquarters in D.C. declined to comment when TPM reached out about the departure earlier Monday. The White House declined to comment. It seems likely that Pak was the “never-Trumper U.S. attorney” referenced by President Trump in a leaked phone call with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. There is speculation based on the call and other actions by the Trump campaign that his team is looking very closely at the Northern Georgia district in their pursuit of evidence that clearly demonstrates voter fraud occurred, particularly in the hotly contested Atlanta results. Others have looked at recent posts by former Overstock.com CEO Patrick Byrne that show post-election shenanigans that jibe with accusations of covering up rampant voter fraud that took place in the district. Could the U.S. Attorney be involved with the cover up? As more truth emerges about massive voter fraud in Georgia, particularly the Northern District, it’s conspicuous that the U.S. Attorney there resigns just over two weeks ahead of schedule. Election 2020: Al Capone, liberals, liars, fools
Posted: 04 Jan 2021 03:07 PM PST There was little question in the mind of the public during Prohibition that Al Capone was a mobster, killer, thief, etc. However, though the evidence was in plain sight, so to speak, the government (Federal not State) struggled to get him arrested and convicted on tax evasion. His books were sloppy. His St. Valentine’s day massacre, for example, was criminally tidy. Nonetheless, his supporters (yes, there were such) swore that he was innocent and just a businessman living the capitalistic life. These supporters, including local police and politicians, swore to his character and conduct. To them, he could be president of the Chamber of Commerce. Anyone with a conscience knew that these supporters fell within only two possible mental miens: Liars or fools. The analogy of Capone, the mobster, is fitting as to the current doctrine of criminal activity regarding the 2020 election. Particularly with Joe and Hunter Biden, mobsters extraordinaire; fitting nicely as the consonants to Capone and Frank Nitti. God bless America. One side, the Democrats, have attempted to steal the election, and have suffered no consequences. Again, though the evidence is in plain sight, few if any Democrats (or liberals, or progressives, or whatever) and probably a plurality of Republicans pretend all is well in some magical democratic way. The other side, a large body of Republicans, conservatives (that plurality of Republicans not included), and some small number of lawyers who believe in their oath, is trying desperately to persuade liars and/or fools of their folly. They will probably fail in their efforts to convince. It isn’t easy to convince a fool. And it is impossible to convince a liar. Most Democrats (and the Republican plurality) are first, liars. However, their mental tattoos of foolishness are indelible (as are all tattoos). No? Burning buildings are protests, not riots? Why bother to have constitutional age limits for House, Senate, and President. Any five-year-old could be stupid. These thugs have been trying to rid themselves of Donald Trump (and his conservative loyalists) for four years. They knew they must. The income-tax-Capone-like-charges were getting too close to many in the FBI, CIA, and any number in what is cleverly referred to as, the “intelligence community.” Furthermore, the Democrats’ devotion to China and its CCP needed a Trump rejection and a Biden infusion. Again, God bless America. Furthermore, socialist wealth-confiscating moron ideals like “The Green New deal” or free education for everyone or guaranteed incomes (with printed money) were in danger of Trump and his allies extinguishing them. But Like Capone and his gangsters, the Democrats and their coadjutants the Washington Swamp and media miscreants will lie, trek with foolishness or idly quote some Founding father-mother-person without a clue to what went into voting franchise and its relationship to a republican government. Meanwhile, we get bloviating children like AOC and her childish drivel or corrupt octogenarians like Nancy Pelosi and her clothes-matching mask, while getting her hair washed in front of taxpayers. They, of course, are ordered to wash their own hair indoors. God bless America. May these horrible anti-republican socialists keep hold of their foolish hearts and minds. And may they lie their way all the way to the altar of truth. And they should always remember that Capone died of syphilis—the number one “social” disease of the time. Is Lin Wood taking crazy pills or did he just expose the Deep State’s blackmail scheme involving child rape and murder?
Posted: 04 Jan 2021 02:53 PM PST Lin Wood has been making a lot of accusation against prominent politicians and leaders… and not just regarding the election. We are talking Voter Fraud, Dominion Voting Systems, Jeffrey Epstein, Sex Trafficking, Mike Pence, Chief Justice John Roberts and more. Most are calling him crazy and nothing more than a tin-foil hat conspiracy theorist… but now he claims to have video that proves his wildest accusations. What do we make of this? The accusations being made during this latest Twitter thread are so heinous and corrupt, yet would expose just how morally bankrupt those that run our nation truly are. Lin Wood is making the accusation that Chief Justice John Roberts and many other influential people are being blackmailed with dirt so destructive that they are simply doing the bidding of their handlers, including in how they are dealing with the rigged election of 2020. According to Wood, “This blackmail scheme is conducted by members of 10 of world’s most well-known & ‘elite’ intelligence agencies. One of those groups was hacked by a group known as Lizard Squad. The blackmail files of rape and murder were obtained by this group & copy was provided to Isaac Kappy. The blackmail targets are approached with a gun, a child, & a camera. The target is ordered to rape the child on video. The target is then ordered to shoot the child on video. The target is then owned & controlled by the blackmailers until blackmail evidence loses its value.” We’ve all wondered how and why the Mainstream Media and the elites in Washington DC all provided cover for Joe Biden, refused to report on Hunter Biden, looked the other way when it came to Hillary Clinton’s scandals and refuse to report on anything bad with the Obama administration. This could be how they keep such a tight lid on everything… blackmail with information and video footage of crimes so despicable there’s no coming back from it! Now, whether this is true or not is yet to be seen. However, the fact that Lin Wood is claiming that he has actually video footage of Chief Justice Roberts raping and murdering a child ups the stakes… he’s either flat-out liar or he’s exposing the Deep State for all to see! Only time will tell what the truth actually is. COVID-19 lockdowns are taking down an independent news outletNobody said running a media site would be easy. In Georgia, 2020 Isn’t Finished Yet
Posted: 05 Jan 2021 12:07 AM PST by Tony Perkins: As happy as everyone was to see 2020 go, there’s no easing into its replacement. The new year is already off to a roaring start, thanks to two U.S. Senate runoffs, a new Congress, and an electoral college challenge that’s creating plenty of fireworks before Wednesday’s joint-session showdown on Capitol Hill. After an endless string of high-stakes weeks and months, both sides are right: the next 72 hours are as crucial as they get. For at least two more days, the most important stage is Georgia, where Senators Kelly Loeffler (R) and David Perdue (R) are in the fight of their political lives — and the party’s life — for control of the U.S. Senate. After a slew of inconclusive holiday polls, the only thing anyone knows for sure is that turnout will rule the day. Democratic challengers Raphael Warnock (D) and Jon Ossoff (D) have outraised conservatives, but at the end of the day, dollars aren’t what count. Votes do. And right now, both races are tighter “than a 35-minute connection at Atlanta’s [international] airport,” pundits joked. By Monday, more than three million Georgians had already voted — ratcheting up the Election Day pressure for Republicans, in particular. Adding to the GOP’s heartburn, voters in the rural, conservative districts seem to be waiting to cast their ballots — many out of the growing conviction that in-person, day-of voting is the only sure way to make their voice count. While the early numbers trickled in, GOP officials were doing everything they could to reassure Georgians — even doubling the number of poll watchers from 4,000 to 8,000 on Election Day. It will be, Loeffler and Perdue’s campaigns insisted, the “largest and most aggressive ballot security [and] voter integrity operation” in Georgia history. “Georgians deserve total confidence in the fairness and accuracy of our state’s elections, and we’re thankful to the thousands of volunteers who will ensure that these runoffs are safe, secure, and that every legal vote is counted,” the two Republican senators said in a joint statement. Locals like Stephen Bowser told reporters that what happened in November has “definitely had an impact on why I decided to come out and vote in person. I just didn’t want… part of that process… being suspect.” With everything on the line — including the direction of this nation — both parties have an interest in ensuring there are no questions about this outcome. That’s a theme President Donald Trump will almost certainly echo today when he visits the state for a last-minute get-out-the-vote rally. No state produced a closer result for the president than Georgia, so if anyone understands the importance of base turnout, it’s the commander-in-chief. Both he and Senator Perdue each won about 60-percent of in-person votes on November 3. And while it’s probably not the president’s favorite statistic, Republican Senate candidates “did slightly better than Trump” in the urban areas like Atlanta, Geoffrey Skelley points out. Even the small number of split-ticket voters, others explain, might be enough to tip the scales. If those trends hold, and conservatives everywhere pray they do, Republicans have reason for optimism. Even so, FRC Action isn’t taking any chances. Our team has been on the ground for weeks, working right up until and after the Christmas holiday — hosting pastor briefings, activist trainings, even a rally at Truett McConnell University. With about 115 Generation Joshua and Faith and Freedom Coalition volunteers, we’ve knocked on 13,000 doors, made 20,000 phone calls, and distributed tens of thousands of Voter Guides. We want people to understand that nothing less than the future of our Constitution, Supreme Court, rule of law, and human life is on the ballot Tuesday. Sitting this one out is not an option. For now, the future of America runs right through Georgia. And it’s up to the Bible-believing men and women of the state to stand up and make a difference. I understand that people are upset about what happened in November. But as Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said, “I think the answer if you’re unhappy about [the general election] is not to stay home but show up, bring your friends, bring your family, and end up with a big victory Tuesday night.” If you don’t live in Georgia, you can still have a tremendous impact just by praying for the election and its integrity. Also, take the time to share trusted resources. There’s no starker contrast than FRC Action’s Voter Guides, comparing the four candidates on issues like life, judges, religious freedom, transgenderism, Israel, guns, and more. Tom Cotton: Blocking Electoral Vote Will Only ‘Embolden Democrats’ to Undermine the Constitution
Posted: 04 Jan 2021 11:46 PM PST by Tyler O’Neil: On Sunday night, Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) announced that he would not vote to block the counting of Electoral College votes on Wednesday, January 6, because any such obstruction would only “embolden” Democrats to undermine the Constitution further. He acknowledged serious concerns about election irregularities, but he insisted that it is not Congress’s job to elect the president in these circumstances. “I share the concerns of many Arkansans about irregularities in the presidential election, especially in states that rushed through election-law changes to relax standards for voting-by-mail. I also share their disappointment with the election results. I therefore support a commission to study the last election and propose reforms to protect the integrity of our elections,” Cotton began. The senator predicted that Sens. Kelly Loeffler (R-Ga.) and David Perdue R-Ga.) will prevail in the Georgia Senate runoffs and urged the Senate to hold more election hearings after their victories. “All Americans deserve to have confidence in the elections that undergird our free government,” he insisted. “Nevertheless, the Founders entrusted our elections chiefly to the states—not Congress,” Cotton argued. “They entrusted the election of our president to the people, acting through the Electoral College—not Congress. And they entrusted the adjudication of election disputes to the courts—not Congress. Under the Constitution and federal law, Congress’s power is limited to counting electoral votes submitted by the states.” If Congress were to overturn the results of the Electoral College, Cotton argued, it would help Democrats undermine the Constitution’s protections for smaller states and lead to more federalized election laws. “If Congress purported to overturn the results of the Electoral College, it would not only exceed that power, but also establish unwise precedents,” he argued. He concluded his remarks with praise for President Donald Trump and a warning about unscrupulous Democrats who would use this precedent to erode the Constitution. “I’m grateful for what the president accomplished over the past four years, which is why I campaigned vigorously for his reelection. But objecting to certified electoral votes won’t give him a second term—it will only embolden those Democrats who want to erode further our system of constitutional government,” Cotton warned. Cotton’s decision not to block the counting stands out because the Arkansas senator represents one of the loudest populist voices in the Republican Party. His fellow populist Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) has announced his support for blocking the count, as has Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas). Cruz has demanded a special commission to study election irregularities before January 20, when a new president must be sworn in. Cruz’s proposal is less radical than many suggest, but it would still make Congress a check on the Electoral College and undermine states’ constitutional rights to choose their own electors. Cruz’s call for an investigation is right, but his method of forcing it may set the horrible precedents Cotton warns about. While Trump and others may have exaggerated claims of election fraud and irregularities, the 2020 presidential election was indeed plagued with last-minute changes to election procedures, insecure storage of ballots, and more. While it is utterly shameful for legacy media outlets to claim there are no concerns about the 2020 election, it is unlikely that Americans will be able to know just how many votes were affected and whether or not Joe Biden truly won the election. It is also unlikely that Trump or his allies will be able to prove that the president won reelection. It seems likely Biden will become president on January 20, and conservatives will have to mobilize to defeat Kamala Harris in 2024. Republicans should heed Cotton’s warning. Should a Republican prevail in the 2024 presidential election, Democrats would likely use this precedent to undermine him or her. Americans should also demand an investigation into the 2020 election and reforms on the state level to prevent this kind of fiasco from ever happening again. Americans must have confidence in their elections, and that is more important than which candidate ultimately prevails. A Momentous Week, Pelosi’s Rules
Posted: 04 Jan 2021 11:27 PM PST
by Gary Bauer: A Momentous Week Polling, which hasn’t been very accurate, suggests both contests are toss ups. The early vote figures indicate a record-breaking turnout for the runoff election, with the data suggesting a slight advantage for the Democrats. Meanwhile, 118,000 voters who did not vote in the November presidential contest have voted in the Senate runoff elections. Exactly who are those people? Here’s what we do know for certain: Progressive activist Stacey Abrams has built an incredible political machine that has turned a once reliable conservative state into a major battleground, while the Georgia Republican Party has been sleepwalking. In addition, there is now a conservative backlash against the Georgia party establishment. A new poll shows Gov. Brian Kemp losing a potential 2022 primary to former Rep. Doug Collins by 20 points! Then on Wednesday, while we’re likely still waiting on the results of the Georgia Senate runoff elections, Congress will convene in a joint session to count the Electoral College votes. A dozen Republican senators and more than 100 House members are planning to contest the results of various states. Their challenges are exposing the growing gap between Trump conservative populists and the old guard in the Republican Party. For example, as tens of millions of Americans remain deeply suspicious of the results, Rep. Liz Cheney, who has never seen a foreign war she didn’t like, is telling her colleagues that she’ll be AWOL from this fight. And Paul Ryan also chimed in, essentially saying, “Count me out, too.” Cheney and Ryan are perfect examples of why the GOP has struggled to be a governing party. Cheney spends her time trying to get us into more no-win wars, while Ryan did virtually nothing to confront communist China or combat the increasing radicalization of the Democrat Party. Given all the irregularities we have seen in the 2020 election, I believe conservative senators and representatives are right to challenge the Electoral College votes. As Rep. Jim Jordan explained, one of the biggest problems is how many state officials and courts arbitrarily changed and ignored the election laws passed by their state legislatures, which is simply unacceptable. Laws are supposed to be followed as written, not rewritten at whim by bureaucrats. By the way, what House and Senate conservatives are doing is not a “coup” as some progressive media commentators have suggested. Such comments put their constitutional ignorance on full display. What they are doing is part of a clearly delineated constitutional process. And that would be the very same process that Democrats have used to challenge the Electoral College results of every single Republican president this century. Pelosi’s Rules Of course, decorum and common decency prevents representatives from uttering certain objectionable words. But most Americans would not consider Pelosi’s newly banned words “objectionable.” If Pelosi has her way, henceforth in the People’s House our representatives will no longer be able to say “husband,” “wife,” “son,” “daughter,” “he” or “she.” Gendered terms are banned. I can’t wait for this year’s congressional resolution honoring Mother’s Day. And can we still refer to “congressmen” or to Mrs. Pelosi as “Madame Speaker”? This is beyond absurd! But it has been going on in schools for years, where many forms now read “parent one” and “parent two.” Dr. James Dobson and I have warned about the left’s effort to deconstruct gender and the family for years. This assault on normalcy is a pathetic attempt to appease an extreme vocal minority. Demonstrating just how deep the left’s rot extends, Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, whose first name means “God is with us,” seems confused about a number of things. His opening prayer of the new Congress suggested that all religions worship the same god. One could write a whole book about that. But he concluded his prayer by saying “Amen and awoman.” This congressman apparently thinks “amen” is a gender specific term. It has nothing to do with men or women. It has similar meanings in Latin, Greek and Hebrew meaning “certainly” or “truly.” What does “awoman” mean? Absolutely nothing! So, while you’re struggling to pay your bills or save your business, just know that progressive members of Congress, who haven’t missed one paycheck during the pandemic, are worshipping at the altar of left-wing insanity. Speaking of language, there’s a new mutation of the coronavirus making headlines. It’s most often referred to as the “UK variant” of the virus. But I thought we weren’t supposed to name a virus’s country of origin because that would be racist. After all, we’re not supposed to call COVID the “Chinese virus” or even the “Wuhan virus.” So why are so many journalists referring to this new strain as the “UK variant”? About That Call. . . Predictably, big media are quoting the president without critical context and doing their best to distort the call. The media have obsessed over one line, suggesting that Trump expected Raffensperger to manufacture more votes for him. But if you read the whole transcript, the president was really saying that that a full and transparent audit, especially in Fulton County (Atlanta), would reveal that he won the state by a large margin. It is not necessary for Raffensperger to manufacture votes because the president and his team believe that many illegal votes for Biden would be identified and rejected by a thorough, transparent audit. An Update As of midnight Thursday, we were, sadly, still well short of meeting our budget needs. We are hoping and praying that as last week’s mail comes in, we can make a last-minute run at our target. As many of you are probably experiencing, mail delivery has been very unreliable lately, and we don’t expect to know final results until the end of the week. Defenders of Civilization?
Posted: 04 Jan 2021 11:05 PM PST Our grandees seem too exhausted, too guilty, or too ignorant to pass on and improve the civilization they inherited for others to come.
by Dr. Victor Davis Hanson: The year 2020 witnessed a long series of writs lodged against an America beset with plague, quarantine, recessions, riot and arson, and the most contested election since 1876. What was strange was not so much the anarchist Left’s efforts in the present to wipe away the past to recalibrate our Animal Farm future. What was odder were both the absurdities of the complaints against American civilization, and the unwillingness or inability of Americans to rebut them and defend their own culture. Demonizing Our Past Yet most of the country sat in lockdown quiet, as it was told that it, and its history, were toxic and culpable—and by whom exactly? Moralists like Labron James? Steve Kerr? Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez? Were Americans in their 244th year suddenly to write checks, apologize, and pay penance to their angry self-described moral superiors? A few schools apparently are no longer to be named after Abraham Lincoln, the president who saved the Union, destroyed the slave-holding Confederacy and freed the slaves at a cost of nearly 700,000 American lives. Now 155 years after his assassination, the present generation—the most leisured, entitled, and wealthiest cohort in civilization’s history—deems him unworthy and unfit for any commemoration. Do any of the street-brawling Antifa radicals seem tough guys in comparison to the Union troops at Gettysburg or those who marched with Sherman? Who or what does the Left offer in place in Lincoln—Che? Fidel? Malcolm X? Cesar Chavez? Margaret Sanger? Xi Jinping? FDR? Barack Obama? All would fall well short of the alleged standards applied by cancel culture. So what are we left with other than nothing? Diversity Academy A? Equity High School No. 3? Inclusion College IV? Campus 1619? What happens if one principal, just a single superintendent, a few parents, three board members say, “Nope, we are not erasing Lincoln’s name, no way, no how”? Little need be said of increasing tense racial relations, given that the collective optimism of a year ago during the booming 2019 economy—record-low minority unemployment and the undepreciated powers of assimilation and integration were beginning to make race more incidental than essential—has dissipated. That was then, and this is now after pandemic, lockdown, recession, George Floyd’s tragic death, riot and looting, a bitter election, and an ongoing cultural revolution. Cornell University is now mandating flu shots for its on-campus students, but with allowances for nonwhites to petition for exemptions, in the manner of those pedigreed epidemiologists who all but said science should be ignored in ranking those to be vaccinated by their race. Had someone in 1980, 1990, or 2005 predicted such things, he would have been written off as a dystopian crackpot. What happens if an elderly so-called white person dies of COVID-19 when a state medical policy ignores science and substitutes racial preference instead? Will his estate file a class action suit that the state has violated the Constitution and is culpable for needless death? What Legal System? Violent crime has soared. Murders are up 30-50 percent in many of those places. In 2020, whether an arsonist, looter, or rioter was arrested, indicted, and jailed depended on the ideology of the perpetrator and the political context of the crime. Old ideas like “broken windows” preventative enforcement went down the memory hole. Did Rudolph Giuliani’s crime-reduction miracle in New York City ever really exist? Is it legal for a district attorney simply to announce that he will no longer enforce the legal code? Can victims of ensuing crimes sue such somnolent prosecutors? Police forces operate under a “defunding” sword of Damocles amid a general collapse of spirit. Officers assume that if they arrest violent criminals, three things are likely to happen and all of them are likely deemed bad. Either police can make an in-vain arrest in their no-bail, Soros-funded prosecuting attorney jurisdictions and see the arrested subject released, angry or defiant or both. Or they can risk being attacked or shot by emboldened criminals, given police deterrence has vanished. Or, in extremis, they can use force and find themselves charged with a felony and likely to have their careers ruined. So police pull back, deterrence is lost, the elite rely on their money, influence, connections, and distance from the mayhem for their security. The poor and middle classes fend on the front lines as they can. Will the working classes establish their own security teams to police their neighborhoods? If they did, would that be vigilantism, or is vigilantism what the rich already practice with their armed guards who patrol their properties? The homeless population of more than half-a-million seems to grow ever larger, as they line the boulevards of our major cities. How could a wealthier more sophisticated society of 2020, the greenest in world history, allow feces on its sidewalks, random harassment of its passersby, and garbage, and worse, strewn in its parks? Are there homeless outside the French Laundry restaurant? Do they camp at the curb outside Gavin Newsom’s mansions? Why could not our Silicon Valley multibillionaires endow a health campus, or Ivy League campuses translate their abstract caring into concrete welcoming of the homeless into their empty summertime dorms? Americans know that purging the word “vagrant,” “liberating” the ill from mental asylums and allowing public urination and defecation did not solve the problem. They sense they know the solution is the restoration of hospitals and health care halfway houses, but are too weary to hear the furious outcry. Losing a Generation There is no First Amendment on campus. The culture of the Salem Witch Trials applies: save yourself by going woke while going on the offensive to accuse others of witchcraft. Administration has become a memo-writing contest, as both endangered and aspiring white males issue edicts condemning items in the news to illustrate their superior woke bona fides. Most pay as much attention to them as did the vandals to purple toga magistrates reading edicts to the wind in Rome circa fifth-century A.D. We hope only that the firebreaks thrown up around the social sciences and humanities can prevent their infectious nihilism from crossing into the sciences and professional schools. What is most striking is the self-righteousness of the university faculty, administration, and students, despite their collective culpability for the current chaos. Statue-topplers were taught to hate dead white males but never taught about the particular historical, literary, or cultural contexts that fuel their deductive hate. Is spray painting easier than reading? All the ingredients for civilizational stasis—delayed or nonexistent marriage and child-bearing, massive unsustainable student debt, ideological indoctrination without learning, and superficial credentialing—originate in the university. And yet no one in academia steps forward to offer ways to slash costs, or to promise the campus will guarantee its own student loans, or to take some responsibility for the current demographic, financial, and ideological crisis of our twenty-something lost generation, as it stagnates in prolonged adolescence. Can we at least have the university endowment substitute for the federal government as the last guarantor of student loans? The media has proven deadly but not serious. Few believed in the “Russian collusion” yarn; all assumed its weaponizing of the original Christopher Steele/Hillary Clinton/Fusion GPS mythography was to paralyze the Trump Administration. All knew that Trump was far harder on Russia than his predecessor. And none cared. The Ukrainian hysteria that led to impeachment—like the Brett Kavanaugh hit and like the news blackout of Biden Inc.—did the country terrible damage, but again was so farcical that even the purveyors of the lies knew that their charges were not serious. Now after they have destroyed their credibility and lost the trust of the American people, what is next for the media? We are left with a bad version of a Ministry of Truth, as supposed muckrakers and young Zolas vie with each other to find out what color socks or which flavor milkshake “President-elect” Biden prefers. Like Pravda that often translated Leonid Brezhnev’s incoherent mutterings into truth speak, so too after January we will be reminded that an often incoherent Biden is really Cicero. Importing and Nurturing Ingratitude and Decline Yet we are hellbent on transmogrifying the immigrant experience into one in which the newly arrived must lodge complaints against their hosts as if we are to assume they chose to immigrate to what they didn’t like and to abandon what they did. What happened to requiring every immigrant to have familiarity with English, a high school diploma, and legal entry? Does anyone believe such requirements would make newcomers less successful? Or is the rub that they would arrive more independent, more upbeat about America, and less inclined to be patronized—and therefore not so needed by the Left? Some days decline is ascendent. On Sunday, I drove through Fresno on Highway 41. The landscaping on the berms of both sides has become a veritable homeless village of the desperate and forgotten. Oddly, some abodes were subterranean, like the homeless, in World War I fashion, had dug under trees to pitch tents over their burrows. Last night, walking through our almond orchard, a truck was parked on the alleyway, the driver standing outside with an automatic rifle. I had no idea whether he was working for a neighbor to shoot squirrels, or the renegade who shoots doves that sometimes drop wounded or dead in our yard, or the one who shot the majestic red-tail hawk who rotted for weeks on a power pole transformer with a bullet in him. The stranger was polite and put the gun down, but spoke no English as I walked on by with four dogs. Does Nancy Pelosi encounter such people in her environs? In between these two incidents, I read the local news, with its daily fare of gang shootings, and fatal drunk-driving wrecks—both are way up in the San Joaquin Valley in 2020. During this lockdown, there are the now-familiar details that the lethal driver was out without bail or had a host of prior DUIs—the equivalent of mere traffic tickets in 2020. There seems a new boldness too in the modus operandi of speeders, drunks, and criminals ramming police cars when purportedly pulling over. Not long ago when two young women were having sex in the back of their car parked in the orchard, then gave me the finger when I walked by, and then spun out and sped away, it was deemed a calm day—no drug injectors, no trash tossers, no stolen car strippers. Searching for Common Denominators in Our Malaise Is the culprit an estranged elite of the keep—wealthy enough to ensure that the consequences of its own toxic ideology fall only upon others? Our grandees seem too exhausted, too guilty, or too ignorant to pass on and improve the civilization they inherited for others to come. Instead, the elite justifies its leisure, privilege, and affluence by medieval penance, virtue signaling, and offering confessionals about their own “unearned” white privilege. It is strange to see the Volvo brigade of our most privileged Americans on the metaphorical barricades as if they are the real revolutionaries who fuel BLM and Antifa. Why do $20,000 refrigerators, trying to torch a federal courthouse, and spitting in a policeman’s face all seem to have something vaguely in common? Revolutions with ensuing chaos usually follow from the professional and upper-classes joining the mob, either in expectation their solidarity will earn an exemption, or as a lark out of boredom, or in ignorance about the venom of those who destroy monuments and burn, or in furor their own upward mobility did not quite land them among the most chosen of the elite. For now, we wait for one local PTA member to refuse to change the name of his Lincoln school, or a crusading prosecutor who issues 40 federal racketeering indictments the next time Antifa drives into town to take over a house, torch a courthouse, or reclaim a street, or a judge who sentences a violent arsonist to a 20-year sentence pour encourager les autres, or an exasperated college dean who will say no to segregating dorms or no-go zones by race, or one honest journalist who finally presses Joe Biden to answer what have Hunter and his family done. What Will Historians Make of Our Annus Horribilis?
Posted: 04 Jan 2021 10:37 PM PST Perhaps one day historians will conclude that what could not kill off America in 2020 only made it stronger.
by Victor Davis Hanson: The year 2020 is now commonly dubbed the annus horribilis — “the horrible year.” The last 10 months certainly have been awful. But then so was 1968, when both Martin Luther King Jr. and Bobby Kennedy were assassinated. The Tet Offensive escalated the Vietnam War and tore America apart. Race and anti-war riots rocked our major cities. Protesters fought with police at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. A new influenza virus, H3N2 (the “Hong Kong flu”), killed some 100,000 Americans. But an even worse 2020 saw the COVID-19 outbreak reach global pandemic proportions by March. Chinese officials mislead the world about the origins of the disease — without apologies. Authorities here in the U.S. were sometimes contradictory in declaring quarantines either effective or superfluous. Masks were discouraged and then mandated. Researchers initially did not know how exactly the virus spread, only that it could be lethal to those over 65 or with comorbidities. Initial forecasts of 1 million to 2 million Americans dying from the virus unduly panicked the population. But earlier assurances that the death toll wouldn’t reach 100,000 falsely reassured them. By April, a historic, booming economy was in an abrupt recession. Much of the country went into quarantine on the theory of “flattening the curve” of infection for three to four weeks. Instead, weeks turned into months. Soon, many people believed that the economic wreckage and emotional damage from the lockdowns would eventually overshadow the toll of the virus itself. By June, initially peaceful protests over the death of George Floyd while in Minneapolis police custody had turned violent in some cities. For much of the summer and into fall, some major cities would see nightly rioting, looting and arson, as antifa and Black Lives Matter hijacked the nation’s outrage over Floyd’s death. Fear of getting infected, concerns about going broke, anxiety about venturing out during the nightly havoc, frustration over weeks of forced isolation, and exhaustion from a bitter presidential campaign – all of it put Americans into a nasty mood on the eve of an acrimonious election. The 2020 presidential election proved as revolutionary as the quarantines. The radical transition to unprecedented levels of mail-in balloting tested the ability of state registrars to authenticate and efficiently count ballots, which often did not meet verification standards of past absentee voting. Enormous voter turnout, spiked in part by huge numbers of mail-in ballots, delighted Democrats but helped convince Republicans of massive voter fraud. After weeks of contention, Donald Trump lost the Electoral College vote. Yet Republicans defied the predictions of experts and won key races in the House and Senate. So pundits argued about whether the left had won by electing Joe Biden or lost by doing dismally in congressional elections. The media, pollsters, and the government establishment were mostly gladdened by the Trump loss, even as their overt bias and partisanship permanently tarnished their reputations. For the first time in American history, given the lockdowns and the cold-weather viral resurgence, there was neither a traditional Thanksgiving nor Christmas for many people. Yet amid the death, destruction, and dissension, history will show that America did not fall apart. In remarkable fashion, researchers created a viable and safe COVID-19 vaccine in less than a year — a feat earlier described as impossible by experts. The nation went into recession but avoided the forecasted depression. This was partly because America in early 2020 was booming by historical standards, and partly because the Trump administration and Congress quickly infused some $4 trillion of liquidity into the inert economy. For all the charges and counter-charges of voter fraud and Trump being a sore loser, President-elect Joe Biden will eventually take office. And Donald Trump will leave it. No one disputes that the 2020 campaign and election were abnormal. Whether they were unfair or illegitimate will likely be readjudicated in the 2022 midterm and 2024 general elections. By then, the people will have had time to digest the bizarre events of the annus horribilis — and with their votes make the necessary compensations. For all of America’s troubles, the world abroad was worse. China eerily bragged that it reacted best to its own virus — even as its global popularity crashed. Europe did little better in combatting the pandemic and saw its economy in even worse shape. More importantly, as the year ended, there was a patch of blue sky amid the storm clouds. The Middle East may be on the verge of a historic recalibrated peace. The world is now pushing back against Chinese mercantilism. The southern border is mostly secure. The flood of illegal immigration has ebbed to a trickle. The strategies that sparked a three-year economic boom need only be reapplied in 2021. Amid death and destruction, perhaps one day historians will conclude that what could not kill off America in 2020 only made it stronger. Ballot-Shredding: The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia
Posted: 04 Jan 2021 10:15 PM PST
by Mike Huckabee: As promised over the weekend, here is our full report on Patrick Byrne’s account of secret nighttime ballot-shredding in Georgia. Byrne, founder and former CEO of Overstock.com, has been working on behalf of President Trump to expose massive, targeted fraud in the 2020 election, and he appears to have hit some serious pay-dirt last week. Acting on a tip, he sent an operative to get what he claims are pictures, video and samples of fake ballots being transported last Wednesday night under cover of darkness from the Fulton County Warehouse to a shredding facility. A screen grab of everything he tweeted on New Year’s Day, complete with pictures, is included in this piece from AMERICAN THINKER. Note that every tweet in the thread is labeled in bright red by the helpful folks at Twitter: “This claim about election fraud is disputed.” Twitter automatically sticks this warning on anything having to do with election fraud, even –- perhaps especially –- on tweets from President Trump. Ludicrously, they do this even if the tweet itself includes evidence that clearly shows wrongdoing. The timing of this alleged shredding party is quite interesting. Last Wednesday, the Georgia senate subcommittee on election fraud held a meeting to hear evidence, during which Jovan Pulitzer, the inventor and patent holder of the electronic barcode scanner, testified that he could look at ballots and tell right away exactly what had been done to commit election fraud. He wanted just TWO HOURS with the ballots from two different areas of Fulton County, he said, and that would tell the tale. As if that weren’t enough, he stunned his audience by dropping the bomb that as he spoke, his team had hacked into the Dominion voting system that was used November 3, the same one that is now being used to vote in the Georgia run-offs for U.S. Senate. He said they WERE IN. Dominion claims that the machines are not connected to the internet and that this cannot happen. Pulitzer said all they had to do was hack into one of the electronic poll pads and use that as a way in. It’s apparently easy as pie if you know how to do it. They can siphon information out of the machines, change it, and put it back in, essentially without detection, he said. In the days since he made the claim, we the public have not yet seen his proof, but everyone’s been really quiet about it, including, as far as I know, Dominion. Byrne did say in his tweets that he’s got to run everything past lawyers before he can reveal it to the public. So we’re waiting. But Pultizer said it was the ballots themselves that would tell the tale. He can spot any counterfeits and tell the type of paper used, he said, and even where it came from –- China, perhaps? Likewise with the ink. He can tell if a person filled out the ballot by hand or if a machine marked it. Numerous election workers have already testified they saw ballots that looked as if they’d been printed on different paper and marked by machine, with one perfect little oval in the space for Joe Biden and the rest left blank. It’s possible that ballots used in heavily Democrat district were the real thing, designed to be counted by the machines, but that the ones used in Republican districts were fakes, misaligned to generate errors, which then have to be “adjudicated” by election workers who did that job far, far away from the prying eyes of Republican poll watchers. Anyway, at the end of Wednesday’s meeting, the subcommittee voted unanimously to recommend that Pulitzer and his team be given access to the ballots. This recommendation still had to go before a judge, so a hearing was set for 11AM Monday in Superior Court. Unless Chief Justice John Roberts is moonlighting on that Georgia court, Pulitzer might very well be given access to the ballots for a couple of hours on Monday and at that point, either put suspicions to rest — wouldn’t that be nice, Democrats? — or confirm them. But it was on Wednesday night, just a few hours after that unanimous vote, that the rented Enterprise trucks allegedly pulled up to the warehouse where the ballots were stored. Here’s AMERICAN THINKER’S earlier report, written before anyone knew about Byrne’s tip and the documentation his operative was able to get that night. Ballots were loaded up and, according to Byrne, driven to a specialized document shredding company, where they were shredded not just into little strips but military-style, into tiny “spitballs” roughly the size of individual molecules. I would imagine processing that much paper in that way would be extremely expensive, but probably worth it if you’re trying to keep people out of jail. In the photos, Byrne’s got boxes and boxes of ballots with close-up pictures of their labels. He’s got stacks and stacks of ballots sitting in the Fulton County Warehouse, presumably awaiting pickup. He’s got close-ups on individual ballots, which I would think could be blown up large enough for Pulitzer to find any problems with the printing on them. But that might not even be necessary, because Byrne says he also got sample ballots. Oh, and one slightly hilarious “coincidence”: the labels on these boxes show they were addressed to the attention of Dwight Brower at the Fulton County Department of Voter Registration and Election. Mr. Brower is one of the people who reported the burst water pipe at State Farm Arena as a reason for stopping the counting on election night. There was no burst water pipe. No service call was even made. The only problem involving water was a leaky toilet or urinal, apparently in a bathroom on the floor above. Oh, no — man the lifeboats! Abandon ship! Except for a crew of four who are going to stay behind and drown— I mean, continue counting ballots that appear magically from under a table. AMERICAN THINKER did a great job of fact-checking the “fact”-checkers who tried to debunk the claims of improper counting at State Farm Arena. As for Wednesday night’s shredding party, Byrne even has a map tracing the route of the trucks. Video apparently exists as well; Byrne tweeted that the file was too big to load. I like to think that when Georgia’s vote is challenged during Wednesday’s joint session of Congress –- as we know now it definitely will be –- and the House and Senate retire to their separate chambers for two hours to talk amongst themselves, this video, along with a complete report from Pulitzer on any problems with ballots or voting machines –- will be part of the evidence presented. Cross your fingers. Tags: Mike Huckabee, Morning Edition, Ballot-Shredding, The Night The Lights, Went Out In GeorgiaTo share or post to your site, click on “Post Link”. A Peaceful Transition of Power?
Posted: 04 Jan 2021 09:50 PM PST by Robin Smith: Doing so requires the protection and integrity of our elections. A political narrative is being framed around the dispute between warring camps supporting their respective presidential candidates. If one accepts the premise of the fight to be singularly about the outcome of the November 3 election, giving that victor the right to occupy the White House for the next four years, the terms of the debate are shallow and expose the intents, motives, and insatiable ambitions of those perpetrating this shallow discussion. Instead, the terms of the debate must reflect the actual issue at hand — whether voter fraud occurred as a critical component of the national election overriding state legislatures, existing law, and the U.S. Constitution. Only then will deliberations prove worthy of the trust of Americans and our great nation’s founding. On January 20, 2021, there’s an expectation of a “peaceful transition of power” characteristic of this great constitutional republic. Is that peaceful transfer a demand, an expectation, or the result of the integrity of the institution of elections in America? Americans deserve the answer to that question to prove to be the latter. In reality, peaceful transitions of power are a result of a trusted process, not simply an organic outcome. History demonstrates the peaceful transfer of power began between bitter rivals — John Adams and Thomas Jefferson. Adams, the incumbent, was challenged by Jefferson in 1800 in a bitter election between the Federalists and the Democratic-Republicans, the newly formed partisan parties. Confusion reigned when the Electoral College tied, and the outcome of the election was determined by the House of Representatives casting 36 ballots for Thomas Jefferson to be America’s third president. The process was not pretty, yet the process worked. Two hundred twenty years later, the electoral process is still in place. But the American public has witnessed drastic changes. A two-tiered system of voting was constructed for 2020. If one voted in person, greater identity verification and security measures were observed, while those casting ballots by mail had to meet a lower bar. As votes were being counted on November 3, some states were observing extensions of the voting period past Election Day through court decisions, not actions of state legislative bodies as specified in the Constitution. While various groups are engaged in trench warfare to defend or disprove the tallies of November 3, facts are mounting that voting irregularities at best and actual criminal fraud at worst have occurred in many states:
In a 345-page DOJ report entitled “Federal Prosecution of Election Offenses,” a sweeping statement is made that we must acknowledge and embrace: “Our constitutional system of representative government only works when the worth of honest ballots is not diluted by invalid ballots procured by corruption. As the Supreme Court stated in a case upholding federal convictions for ballot box stuffing: ‘Every voter in a federal … election … whether he votes for a candidate with little chance of winning or for one with little chance of losing, has a right under the Constitution to have his vote fairly counted, without its being distorted by fraudulently cast votes.’” The truth is that voter fraud has been and remains an issue, and we must insist that legal votes alone are counted and that those committed to illegal voting and corruption are prosecuted. Israel Going to a Fourth Election
Posted: 04 Jan 2021 09:32 PM PST . . . The “wolfpack” is aiming to end Netanyahu’s career.
by Joseph Puder: Israelis are reluctantly readying themselves for the fourth election campaign in less than two years. The date for the new elections is March 23, 2021.The “marriage” between Benny Gantz’s Blue and White party and Benjamin (Bibi) Netanyahu’s Likud party was a forced last resort arrangement. Ideologically, they were not that far apart on matters of national defense, and there was little difference on foreign policy. On social and economic issues, especially as it pertained to justice, and judicial appointments, there was a major gap. Netanyahu accused Gantz and his Blue and White party of being “an opposition within the coalition government.” For Gantz, it was the budget that the government did not pass, and Gantz wanted a two-year budget, while Likud argued for a one-year budget. For now, there is no budget at all, and Israel is on its third lockdown due to the Covid-19 epidemic. As a result of the repeated lockdowns, the Israel economy took a nosedive and many small businesses shut down permanently. Unemployment has risen, and the government’s aid packages have not ameliorated matters. In the meantime, something like a wolfpack has formed, determined to end Netanyahu’s grip on power. These hungry wolves include Netanyahu’s major rival within the Likud, Gideon Saar. Saar did poorly in the last Likud primaries, and did not get close enough to the top Likud list to receive a ministry appointment. In the past he served as Interior Minister and Education Minister. In many ways, Saar is more ideologically defined than Netanyahu. He has been a solid right-winger on such issues as territorial compromise with the Palestinians, while Netanyahu’s Bar Ilan speech pointed to his willingness to compromise. Two weeks ago, Saar submitted his resignation from the Likud. Saar has simultaneously formed his own party, naming it the New Hope.Moshe (Bogie) Yaalon, the former Chief-of-Staff (2002-2005), and Defense Minister in Netanyahu’s government (2013-2016) is another disgruntled “wolf.” To form his coalition government, Netanyahu needed the votes of Russian-born Avigdore Lieberman’s Israel Beitenu (Israel Our Home) party. Lieberman conditioned his entry on receiving the Defense Ministry. Netanyahu, forced to remove Yaalon from the Defense portfolio, offered him the Foreign Ministry. Yaalon declined, and chose to resign. On January 2, 2019, Yaalon formed his own party, Telem. At the end of January (January 29, 2019) Yaalon announced his political alliance with former Chief-of-Staff (2011-2015) Benny Gantz’s Israel Resilience party. Then on February 21, 2019, Israel Resilience and Telem merged with Yair Lapid’s Yesh Atid (There is Hope) to form the Blue and White party. Among these “wolves” is the perennial Avigdore Lieberman. Netanyahu gave him his start in politics when he appointed him as director general of the Prime Minister’s office in 1996. In 1999, when Netanyahu lost the election to Ehud Barak’s Labor party that year, Lieberman had a falling out with Bibi and formed his own Israel Beitenu party, a party of mostly Russian immigrants. He is one of those who have proclaimed “anyone but Bibi.” Lieberman’s refusal to join the right-of-center coalition forced the last few elections. Lieberman declined to join Gantz’s coalition government that depended on the Arab Unity party for a majority. Another contender to replace Netanyahu as Prime Minister is Naftali Bennett. Like Saar and Lieberman, he represents an ideological bent that is right-of-center, and even more to the right than Netanyahu’s Likud. Bennett’s Yemina (Rightward) party received only 6 seats in the last (March 2, 2020) election. A successful stint as Defense Minister in the previous Netanyahu government coalition (Yemina got 7 seats in the September 2019 election) gave Bennett a major lift as a qualifier to the Prime Ministership. A successful high-tech entrepreneur, he polled second after Netanyahu as the most qualified to serve as Prime Minister. While he is one of the “wolves,” he is not one of the “anyone but Bibi” crowd. He is ready to be Prime Minister, he declared, but he didn’t rule out serving in a future Netanyahu coalition government. Then there is the other perennial contender to replace Netanyahu: Yair Lapid, chairman of the Yesh Atid party. He comes at Netanyahu from left-of-center. A former TV presenter and news anchor, Lapid entered politics in 2012. His centrist party scored high in the 2013 national elections, getting 19 seats, second only to Netanyahu’s Likud. He joined Netanyahu’s coalition government and served as Finance Minister (2013-2014). He was a major failure in the post, and in the subsequent March, 2015 elections, his party, Yesh Atid, fell to 11 seats. After leaving the coalition government in 2015, he has been moving to the left-of-center. His failure as Finance Minister and subsequent replacement by Moshe Kahlon of Kulanu party (merged with the Likud) left him bitter and resentful of Netanyahu. Benny Gantz is the unfortunate and tragic figure in the unfolding events. As part of the agreement for the emergency government he and Netanyahu signed earlier this year, Gantz, as alternate Prime Minister, was to serve in a rotation with Netanyahu. Sometime in September next year he would have become officially the Prime Minister. The deal was, Netanyahu served the first 18 months, followed by Gantz’s 18 months. But this month, Gantz decided to throw in the towel, and voted to dissolve the Knesset, which forced new elections scheduled for March 23, 2021. Just before closing the list of contenders, Ron Huldai, Tel Aviv’s Mayor, announced the formation of a new party on December 29, 2020, called The Israelis. Current Justice Minister and number three on the Blue and White list, Avi Nissenkorn, joined the newest party without informing Gantz of his move. This would become a purely leftist party. WhatWhat do the polls say? A TV News Channel 12 (Israel) poll on December 27, 2020 shows that Gideon Saar’s New Hope is moving votes away from the Likud if elections were held now. Still, the Likud remains the largest party with 28 mandates in the 120 seat Knesset. Saar’s New Hope becomes the second largest party with 19 seats, followed by Yesh Atid 16, Yemina 13, the Arab Unity 11, the Sephardic Orthodox party Shas 8, United Torah Judaism (Ashkenazi Orthodox) 8, Avigdore Lieberman’s Israel Beitenu 7, Gantz’s Blue and White 5, and the leftist Meretz 5. If this was the real outcome, the Likud-religious block would garner 44 seats, the Center-left bloc gets 52 seats. Neither bloc can form a government without Bennett’s Yemina. He would be the kingmaker this time around. While his agenda and constituents conflict with that of the center-left, his mistrust of Netanyahu could be overcome by an ironclad guarantee of a rotation. But, even so, Netanyahu would have to recruit one more party to get 61 seats and form a coalition government. With former fighter-pilot and Mayor of Tel Aviv new party – The Israelis, the center-left reaches 56 mandates without Bennett. If, however, Bennett was inclined to join the center-left group, problem solved. They can form a large government with 69 seats. However, ideological differences would make it a short-lived government. The center-left with 56 votes could technically form a government with the backing of Arab Unity, but then, they are likely to lose Saar and Lieberman’s parties. Three months is a lifetime in Israeli party politics. The center-left is splintered and squabbling over leadership could weaken it. On the other hand, Netanyahu enters this election enhanced by an effective Covid-19 vaccination campaign, and a spectacular display of peacemaking (helped by President Donald Trump). If the Israeli economy improves in the interim, I predict Likud would garner 36 votes, Yesh Atid 14, Arab Unity 13, New Hope 12, Huldai-Gantz-Meretz-Labor-Shelach 12, Yemina 11, Shas 8, UTJ 8, Israel Beitenu 6. Under this scenario, the Likud, along with Yemina and the religious parties receive 63 seats, the center-left led by Lapid 44 seats. One thing is fairly safe to say: Don’t bet on the wolfpack devouring Netanyahu yet. Tags: Joseph Puder, FrontPage Mag, Israel, fourth electionsTo share or post to your site, click on “Post Link”. Great News: Biden, Inc. Looks to Massively Ramp Up Regulations
Posted: 04 Jan 2021 08:51 PM PST by Seton Motley: Happy New Year, All. Biden Builds Team to Get Aggressive on Regs: “President-elect Joe Biden is building a team of seasoned government professionals who can help him embark on an aggressive regulatory agenda once he takes office.” The fact that much of what Biden, Inc wants to do Constitutionally requires preceding legislation from the Legislative Branch – doesn’t seem to bother anyone involved: “Biden will face a divided Senate when he takes office that could be controlled by Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) depending on the outcome of two Jan. 5 runoff elections in Georgia. “This will make moving legislation difficult, and will almost certainly force Biden to lean on executive actions and regulatory work — both to accomplish his own agenda and dismantle President Trump’s.” Speaking of President’s Trump’s agenda…. The Trump Transition: Away from Enormous, Terrible, Top-Down Government Trump Cuts 22 Regs for Every New One Donald Trump Celebrates Record Success in Cutting Regulations How did Trump’s less regulations do for We the People? That is, prior to the titanically stupid government lockdowns in the name of the China Virus? Ten Reasons Trump Economy Is Best in Fifty Years Probably longer that that. And Trump’s regulation cuts were a key reason why. Trump’s Roaring Economy Proves: Obama-Democrat Big Government – Doesn’t Work: “Obama never, ever had a year of at least 2% Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth – the first president in our history to achieve such ignominy. A pathetic paltriness Obama said was ‘The new normal.’… “Enter Trump. Trump immediately began slashing regulations – at a tremendous pace…. “Trump’s economic results are in – and they have been extraordinary and fantastic…. “Trump’s ‘Let’s have government do less’ approach – has already proven to be a roaring success. “We need to apply this less government approach – to EVERYTHING.” But that is precisely the opposite of what the Biden, Inc approach will be. About which we have repeatedly warned. Biden’s ‘Unity’ – Unites Leftists and Government Bureaucrats Against US Biden’s Addled Brain: Communists Will Be Running the Looming Administration Biden’s ‘Build Back Never’: His Endless Government Assaults Will Make Building America Impossible To sum up the difference between Trump and Biden, Inc: “Trump wants to rebuild America. Biden wants to rebuild DC. “Trump wants to rebuild America. Biden wants to rebuild DC. “Trump built America – by undoing what Obama-Biden did to build DC. “Obama-Biden added millions of pages of regulations. Trump has repealed millions of pages of regulations. Biden wants to add them back…and then some…. “Trump delivered less DC – which created more America. “Biden wants to deliver more DC – which will destroy much of America.” The key to our economy not imploding completely during the titanically stupid government lockdowns – has been the Internet. Coronavirus: Nation’s Internet Providers Have Made #SelfDistancing Telework a Piece of Cake Shutdowns Yet Again Demonstrate: Our Internet Works – and Big Government Doesn’t: “(T)here’s the government-assaulting-work-and-workers idiocy…. “New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu on Work-from-Home Tax Dispute with Massachusetts: “‘The shift to working from home is leading to a heated debate between states over how to tax workers….’ “Appearing…on CNBC, Republican Sununu was spectacular: “‘(Big government New York and Massachusetts) are coming after our citizens – and we’re going to put up a fight.…’ “‘Covid has changed the dynamic in so many ways. Whether it’s families and businesses moving into New Hampshire – people understanding they can work remotely with the good quality of life we provide here. No income tax, no sales tax, great schools, safe state.…’ “See how matter-of-factly Sununu references ‘people…can work remotely?’ He can do that because Internet Service Providers (ISPs) – combined with the less government federal policies…have made working remotely a matter of fact. “More Sununu on the fabulous success of ISPs and less government: “‘People realize that working remotely is possible. You can have all that connectivity in a place like New Hampshire but not have to be in the dire straits of a New York City or Boston or Seattle or San Francisco. Folks are moving here. They’re working remotely. They can stay with their business anywhere in the country – but still be right here in tax-free New Hampshire…. “‘We’re booming. We’re absolutely booming. (People) are coming (to New Hampshire) from all across the country….Let’s say you’re in New York. You have a mayor that doesn’t know what he’s doing. You have years of terrible policy out of Albany (New York’s state capital). “‘People have choices. And 2020 is making them drive to those decisions. It’s like they put a big sign on the Brooklyn Bridge that said – ‘Last one out turn out the lights.’ And everyone is finally saying ‘Look, we’re going to come up to a place like New Hampshire…, where we can have that connectivity…. “‘Young families are finally realizing: Why pay all this money for (big government states’ lack of) quality of life – when we can still be connected, but be in a place like New Hampshire where they’re not hitting us with taxes, the government doesn’t get in our way. It’s a government that promotes business – not fights it.’” Biden, Inc’s hyper-regulatory government – will wage war on business. Including the business of connecting We the People to the Internet. Bringing Back Net Neutrality Rules Is High on Biden’s Tech Agenda For the Internet, it doesn’t get any bigger Big Government Big Regs – than Net Neutrality. Even more of Biden, Inc “get(ting) aggressive on regs” that they have promised – and about which we have warned. It’s going to be a LOOOOOOOONG four years. Happy New Year, All. New York City Demonstrates the Danger to Freedom and Safety of Firearm Licensing Laws
Posted: 04 Jan 2021 08:27 PM PST by NRA-ILA: Leave it to New York City to once again remind us why we cannot trust anti-gun public officials to be the gatekeepers for our preexisting right – not state-granted privilege – to keep and bear arms. At first blush, firearm licensing laws may seem to some like a reasonable safeguard to ensure new gun owners have a baseline of vetting and familiarization before they take home their first firearm. This would assume, however, an ideal world where the system was administered fairly, affordably, efficiently, and in good faith. That ideal world does not exist. The reality is that most of the places where licensing is required for firearm possession use the system first and foremost to actively discourage people from owning guns at all with burdensome bureaucracy, fees, and waiting periods. But for places like New York City, even this inherent chilling effect is not enough. According to a recent article in the New York Post, the New York Police Department (NYPD) License Division appears to be simply letting new firearm permit applications languish with little or no action and little or no way for the applicants to know where they stand in the process. And this is occurring during a period of soaring violent crime in the city and a correspondingly high volume of permit applications. Before discussing the Post’s findings, it’s worth revisiting the huge hurdles every would-be gun owner faces in lawfully obtaining a firearm in the Big Apple. First of all, the applicant must apply online. Not only does this obviously require a computer and Internet connection, it requires equipment like scanners, copiers, and printers (for supporting documentation) that are rare even in many computer-owning households. The documentation required for an application may be intrusive and voluminous, depending on the person’s circumstances. Some supporting documents must additionally be notarized. Applicants will be expected to provide photographs, birth certificate, any military discharge papers, proof of city residence, and documents related to any arrests or convictions (including for cases that were dismissed, nullified, or sealed). Every applicant must also be prepared to present an original Social Security card during an in-person appearance; bank deposit slips and tax returns may also be required. The application additionally mandates extensive disclosures about medical and mental health treatment, as well as full contact information for any and all providers. Every handgun application requires a $340 fee ($140 for a rifle or shotgun), in addition to $88.25 for the mandatory fingerprint cards that must accompany the application. Cash and checks are not accepted, only credit card payments or money orders (which of course require additional fees and special trips). Additional fees are required upon renewal. Once the application and all required forms are uploaded, the License Division will schedule a mandatory interview for all handgun applicants, with long gun applicants having to appear at the Division’s discretion. Normal processing time is at least six months and often considerably longer. The process is so complicated that it’s not uncommon for applicants to hire lawyers or other professionals to help them negotiate all the bureaucracy. The regime has also led to corruption scandals, with “facilitators” bribing licensing officials to grant or expedite the processing of permits. All this is just the normal state of affairs. Lately, the NYPD License Division has further restricted the availability of the in-person portions of the process, ostensibly because of precautions relating to the novel coronavirus. And earlier last year, Democrat Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s COVID-19 related emergency orders put “non-essential” businesses on “pause,” with only the threat of litigation allowing gun shops to avoid being shuttered entirely. It’s a tribute to Americans’ embrace of the Second Amendment (and the corresponding diminution of that right by New York courts) that every year thousands of New Yorkers tackle this arduous process simply to possess a firearm lawfully within the home. But last year interest in gun ownership spiked in New York City. From March 22 to late Dec. of 2020, according to the Post, applications for first-time firearm permits surged to 8,088, more than a three-fold increase over the 2,562 applications submitted during the same period in 2019. Coinciding with the increase, the Post reports, was a 98% increase in shootings and a 39% increase in murders within New York City. Nevertheless, the Post additionally reports that application approvals dropped from 70% in 2019 to less than 14% during the same period of 2020. The decrease in approvals apparently does not reflect outright denials of prohibited applicants but simply inaction on the processing of applications across the board. According to one city gun dealer quoted by the Post, “They just stopped doing the investigations and the processing.” Another dealer told the Post, “I’ve never seen it this bad.” A source within the NYPD said the License Division did not have adequate staffing to process the applications, a factor the source blamed in part on official antipathy toward New Yorkers exercising their Second Amendment rights. “The politicians are generally against giving licenses, to begin with, so it’s not a priority,” the person said. In a follow-up article, an NYPD source noted that the same civil unrest that had helped fuel the demand for lawfully-owned guns ironically had caused the department to shift officers away from the processing of permits and to other tasks during the protests and riots that marred the city in 2020. ”Many cops in police headquarters, including the License Division, were put in uniform to police those protests,” the source said. Meanwhile, a city resident who had applied for a permit in July 2020 told the Post in December that emails he’d sent since then to check on its status had simply “bounce[d] back” with no answer. Whatever the true cause[s] of the delay, the takeaway is inescapable: New York City’s firearm licensing laws have blocked city residents from obtaining guns precisely when more and more residents are deciding they want one. And a right to protection that evaporates when most needed is no right at all. Tags: NRA, ILA, New York, licensing, registrationTo share or post to your site, click on “Post Link”. The Most Important Week of the Century
Posted: 04 Jan 2021 08:06 PM PST What happens in Congress and Georgia this week could change America forever.
by Catherine Mortensen: Three big things are happening this week that could decide America’s fate. First, a run-off election in Georgia on Tuesday for two U.S. Senate seats that will determine the balance of power in the Senate. Second, Congress meets for a joint session on Wednesday to formally count the votes of the electoral college. And third, Americans from across the country will rally in support of election integrity on Wednesday on the lawn of the U.S. Capitol. Here’s a quick look at all these moving parts and ways you can make a difference in the saving America from a Marxist-Socialist takeover.Georgia Run-off Election – Tuesday, Jan. 5Senators Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue, the Republican incumbents, are champions of limited government. Loeffler has led the fight in the Senate to protect the Supreme Court from the Democrat threat to pack the court. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has promised to add seats to the Supreme Court which he will then fill liberal justices. If Loeffler’s Democrat opponent wins the race, he would go along with Schumer and pack the court. All of President Trump’s hard-earned wins on the Supreme Court will be for not if Loeffler does not win her race.Sen. Perdue sponsored the MERIT Act, a bill that would expedite the removal of poorly performing federal workers, who are otherwise lazy, incompetent, or recalcitrant by applying the same procedures that were put into place in 2018 to reform the Department of Veterans Affairs across the entire civil service. Right now, it can take years just to terminate an employee with cause. In a modern workplace, that is simply ludicrous. If re-elected, Perdue will continue to drain the D.C. swamp. If his Democrat opponent wins the race, the Deep State will be further empowered. If Democrats prevail in Georgia’s run-off election, the Senate will push for D.C. statehood in a straight-up power grab. If D.C. were to become a state, it would provide Democrats with two more reliable votes. As of late last week, 500,000 Republican voters had not yet mailed in ballots for these races. It is critical that every Republican voter in the state return their ballots or vote in person. We cannot let the stolen presidential election sideline us in this fight to save our country. We must pick ourselves up and vote! Formal Count of Electoral College Votes – Wednesday, Jan. 6 The House and Senate will meet for a special joint session to formally count the votes of the Electoral College. The states have already counted their electors – now its up to Congress to determine if they will accept each state’s votes. Vice President Mike Pence will oversee the joint session – presiding in his role as president of the Senate. Many believe the vice president has the option of presenting either Trump electors or Biden electors in states where both Biden and Trump electors have been submitted to Congress. And that could be a critical difference. At least 140 Republican House Members and twelve senators have said they will formally object to certifying the electoral college votes from states they allege did not follow their own state election laws – in direct violation of the U.S. Constitution. At that point, the House and Senate retire to their separate chambers, for a period of “not more than two hours,” and members get up to five minutes to speak in favor or against the objection. Then each chamber will vote, with a simple majority required to uphold the objection. Both chambers must agree to the objection for it to succeed. Finally, if the vice president presents Trump electors in contested states, it is certain the House will object, leaving it to the Senate to decide whether to concur with that objection – they would have to vote on accepting the Biden electors or support the Trump electors. This will be the third time Congress has had to debate an objection since 1887. The other two times, in 1969 and 2005, were ultimately unsuccessful in changing the results of the election and the objections were rejected. Stop the Steal Rally – Wednesday, Jan. 6 Americans who want their congressman and senators to accept Trump electors from contested states will rally on the lawn of the U.S. Capitol. Congress cannot certify this fraudulent Electoral College. Our presence in Washington D.C. will let Members of Congress know that we stand with Rep. Mo Brooks and his colleagues in the House of Representatives who will bravely object to the certification of the Electoral College. StopTheSteal.us is working closely, whipping the vote up, with patriots in the Congress. Make a Difference If you would like more information on the Jan. 6 rally, click here. Here Are 26 Books to Add to Your Reading List for 2021
Posted: 04 Jan 2021 07:43 PM PST by Christian Mysliwiec: If you are looking for some exciting book recommendations to help you ring in the new year, look no further. Our friends at The Heritage Foundation and Heritage Action for America have 26 titles that we recommend you check out in 2021. 1. “American Traitor” by Brad Taylor Taylor pulls on his 21 years of experience in the military to craft an exciting story around characters Pike Logan and Jennifer Cahill, who uncover a Chinese plot to take control of Taiwan. This is a great read for anyone who loves action-packed novels. — Virginia Allen is a news producer for The Daily Signal. She is the co-host of The Daily Signal Podcast and Problematic Women. 2. “Beauty Memory Unity: A Theory of Proportion in Architecture” by Steve Bass Have you ever wondered why some buildings seem to stir your soul, while most others leave something to be desired? It’s likely because the architect understood the classical theory of proportion. Steve Bass takes you to the foundations of this theory—which go back to the esoteric teachings of Pythagoras, and possibly further—and explains the secrets of beautiful design. — Christian Mysliwiec is commentary editor of The Daily Signal. 3. “The Bible as It Was” by James Kugel He consults extra-Biblical works that contain explanations and interpretations of the Bible’s more mysterious and cryptic stories. From theories about Moses getting a speech impediment from ingesting burning coals to Cain and Abel being born as grown men, Kugel’s book is a fun and informative read for Bible enthusiasts of all backgrounds. — Will Deatherage is a service desk specialist at The Heritage Foundation and is currently earning his M.A. in systematic theology. 4. “Blackout/All Clear” by Connie Willis The technology that was supposed to bring them home is malfunctioning in ways they have never encountered, leaving them wondering whether their presence has tipped the balance in favor of the Nazis and obliterated the future they came from. There’s enough time-travelling adventure to keep any reader hooked, but what makes this novel a true gem is the depiction of life in Blitz-era London. The constant bombing of the city by German planes creates a constant atmosphere of anxiety and uncertainty, and the stiff upper lip displayed by the people of London is an inspiring example as we approach the “all clear” siren of the COVID-19 pandemic. — Adam Brickley serves as program associate for lectures and seminars at The Heritage Foundation. 5. “Churchill’s Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare: The Mavericks Who Plotted Hitler’s Defeat” by Giles Milton While some resisted the then-unconventional tactics, “Churchill’s Secret Army” played a key part in Britain’s strategy to wreak havoc on Hitler’s supply lines. It’s an inspiring story of men (and women) who were scrappy, innovative, and determined to defeat an evil regime. — Stephanie Kreuz is a regional manager and senior advisor at Heritage Action for America. 6. “The Coffee Lover’s Diet: Change Your Coffee, Change Your Life” by Dr. Bob ArnotThis 373-page tome is a deep dive for coffee aficionados into the nutritional value of America’s favorite beverage (it’s the single biggest source of antioxidants in Americans’ diets); how to shop for and find the best coffees (buying the choicest whole beans from an on-site roaster for maximum freshness and taste); advice on buying and using the best home coffee grinders and coffeemakers for maximizing flavor and retention of the antioxidants; and much more. — Peter Parisi is an editor and writer for The Daily Signal. 7. “Conservatism: An Invitation to the Great Tradition” by Roger Scruton — David R. Burton focuses on tax matters, securities law, entitlements and regulatory and administrative law issues as The Heritage Foundation’s senior fellow in economic policy. 8. “The Conservative Sensibility” by George F. Will 9. “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens and —Paul J. Larkin Jr. directs The Heritage Foundation’s project to counter abuse of the criminal law, particularly at the federal level, as senior legal research fellow in the Center for Legal and Judicial Studies. 11. “Crime and Punishment” by Fyodor Dostoyevsky. This literary masterpiece aims to prove that an individual’s negative decisions are not to be entirely blamed upon the environment that they were raised in. Rather, it is someone’s personal life choices that lead to positive or negative consequences. “Crime and Punishment” asserts that progressive ideas conveyed through casuist rhetoric often prove themselves to be far removed from the reality of human nature and the consideration of our driving force of morality. Dostoyevsky’s characterization of modern Russian philosophers sheds light on the hollowness of ideas inflated by exaggerated language, and proves that radical ideas can be myopic at their root. It’s hard to synthesize a book with as many complex and enlightened ideas as this, but “Crime and Punishment” proves to be incredibly relevant to the 21st century’s negligence in considering morality as a foundation of human nature. — Kensie Yeates is a project coordinator for Donor Communications at The Heritage Foundation. 12. “Crisis of the House Divided” by Harry V. Jaffa Throughout his debate with Stephen Douglas, Lincoln consistently grounded his arguments in the Founding, chiefly the idea of equality as embodied in the Declaration of Independence. “For Lincoln there was nothing more substantially important than whether Americans lived their lives believing that all men are created equal or whether they did not.” As America closes out a turbulent 2020 and looks forward to the new year, the importance of rekindling the principle of equality properly understood will be just as important as it was in Lincoln’s time. — Matthew D. Dickerson is the director of the Grover M. Hermann Center for the Federal Budget at The Heritage Foundation. 13. “In Defense of Freedom” by Frank Meyer Like Meyer we live in revolutionary times. The left in recent years has overthrown the definitions of home, family, and marriage that had stood for millennia. Even more recently, the equally established definition of gender has been changed by the current revolution—stunningly, by the pen of Antonin Scalia’s successor. And now they have turned their angry guns on our history, monuments, American culture, security in our homes and persons, and the goodness of America. To accept these changes would be the opposite of conservative, and acquiescence of radical revolution. Combining political power with economic and social power leads inevitably to tyranny. The American Founders sought to separate political power from both economic and social power, separate political power between three branches, and limit political power to enumerated powers only. This genius has long been both the fortress of our political freedom and the wellspring of our economic and social prosperity. Conservatives must join together to repair the breach, not pick up the left’s battering ram for the purpose of empowering government with even more economic and social power for supposedly conservative ends, thinking this would save their side of the fortress. Such a project not only abandons modern American conservatism, even more importantly, it also retreats from the Founding. As Meyers shows, traditionalism without individual freedom leads to authoritarianism; individual freedom without traditional morality leads to moral rot and economic corruption. Neither tradition nor individual freedom by itself is conservatism; alone “the temptation to tyranny becomes irresistible, and the political conditions of freedom wither.” If we forget or reject our conservative heritage, in Meyer’s words, “we should be casting away some of the most powerful among our weapons” against the left. Re-reading Meyer can arm and strengthen us for the battles ahead. — Wes Dyck is vice president of personnel at The Heritage Foundation. 14. “Dominion: Making of the Western Mind” by Tom Holland Holland’s thesis is that the values which we in the West generally consider to be instinctive are actually products of Christianity. Christian notions like “the last shall be first, and the first shall be last,” and that people are made in the image of God and therefore equal to one another, have been suffused into Western thought to the point where many do not even realize how distinctively Christian they really are. Holland embarks on a grand tour of intellectual history as he traces fundamental Western values through the ideologies of ancient Greek Stoics, first-century Pauline Christians, the Church Fathers, Medieval reformists, the Enlightenment, Secular Humanists, Protestant theologians, New England abolitionists, all the way up to our modern 21st-century era. It is an easily accessible book even for those who might not be familiar with historical details, and it is sure to leave readers with a new appreciation of how exceptional our American system is. — Brandon Palumbo is a senior program associate for Congressional Relations at The Heritage Foundation. 15. “Epidemics and Society: From the Black Death to the Present” by Frank M. Snowden — James Jay Carafano, a leading expert in national security and foreign policy challenges, is The Heritage Foundation’s vice president for foreign and defense policy studies, E. W. Richardson fellow, and director of the Kathryn and Shelby Cullom Davis Institute for International Studies. 16. “The Mandibles: A Family, 2029-2047” by Lionel Shriver — Frederico Bartels is a policy analyst for defense budgeting at The Heritage Foundation’s Davis Institute for National Security and Foreign Policy. 17. “Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln’s Killer” by James L. Swanson It was 10 years after a college professor recommended it to me before I finally read this book (thanks, Dr. Craig!). I would recommend you not wait that long to pick it up. 18. “The Next Jihad: Stop the Christian Genocide in Africa” by Rev. Johnnie Moore and Rabbi Abraham Cooper The book details how mass murderers enter villages, separating Christians from Muslims before brutally massacring the men, women, and children who are Christians. Astonishingly, the nomadic herdsman then return to their herds and go about their lives without ever facing justice. The authors say, “We reviewed one confidential list that precisely documents attacks by Fulani militants on 79 Christian villages over the last five years in one state alone. Yet we haven’t identified a single case where the perpetrators were brought to justice or where security forces prevented an attack.” The Nigerian government should be ashamed of itself for not marshalling the full force of its army to save innocent lives, and install a much needed rule of law. — Patrick Tyrrell is a research coordinator in The Heritage Foundation’s Center for International Trade and Economics. 19. “The Return of Great Power Rivalry: Democracy versus Autocracy from the Ancient World to the U.S. and China” by Matthew Kroenig Matthew Kroenig, an associate professor at Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Policy, respectfully disagrees. In this delightfully short (224 pages), tightly written book, Kroenig describes how democracies over the course of history have consistently out-competed autocracies in the military, economic, and diplomatic arenas. Demonstrating a masterful grasp of history, Kroenig uses classic examples—such as the Persians and the Greeks and the United States versus the Soviet Union, as well as some lesser known cases, such as the struggle between the Dutch Republic and the Spanish Empire—to illustrate how the open institutions of democracy reliably outshine the closed organs of the autocratic state. In the many examples that Kroenig cites, democracies far outperform autocracies in forming and maintaining strong networks of allies and partners. Coming off the turbulent and often chaotic year of 2020, Kroenig’s message is both uplifting and encouraging. — Thomas W. Spoehr, a retired Army lieutenant general, is director of the Center for National Defense at The Heritage Foundation. 20. “The Righteous Mind: Why Good People Are Divided by Politics and Religion” by Jonthan Haidt The book is accessible and thorough, providing a history of our moral psychology from our early days as hunter-gatherers, to the modern political squabbles of the 21st century. Now more than ever, it is crucial that we learn how to understand those who disagree with us, and Haidt’s book provides a solid base for finding common ground. — Douglas Blair is an administrative assistant at The Heritage Foundation and a graduate of Heritage’s Young Leaders Program. 21. “Scalia Speaks: Reflections on Law, Faith, and Life Well Lived” by Antonin Scalia Throughout his speeches and writings, Scalia offers deep insights into his Catholic faith, to which his eloquent and expressive writing style makes it easy for the reader to relate. His speeches on more obscure topics, like virtues, pastimes, and my personal favorite, his comical take on the Italian view of the Irish, make this book not only educational and thoughtful, but also entertaining, opening the reader’s mind to a whole array of Scalia’s inspiring ideas. — Patty-Jane Geller is a policy analyst who focuses on nuclear deterrence and missile defense at the Center for National Defense at The Heritage Foundation. 22. “A Severe Mercy: A Story of Faith, Tragedy and Triumph” by Sheldon VanaukenThere are some books that just cannot be read without tears: this is one of those stories. Written from an autobiographical perspective, “A Severe Mercy” chronicles the evolving love story and spiritual journey of two young Americans who found themselves studying at Oxford University and being drawn toward the Christian faith by none other than C.S. Lewis himself. What begins as a carefree, idyllic existence comes crashing down as Davy (the author’s wife) dies at 40 in Lynchburg, Virginia. The rawness of the author’s grief and the measured euphoria of his coming to terms are depicted with heart-breaking intimacy, intermingled with correspondence between the author and Lewis, who had suffered the loss of his own wife around the same time. Dear reader, keep a box of tissues handy. To paraphrase Dante, “Abandon all inhibitions, ye who enter here.” — Ross Hougham is a program associate for the Truluck Center at The Heritage Foundation. 23. “A Short History of Modern Philosophy” by Roger Scruton By blending philosophical ideas with historical events, Scruton masterfully adds layers of depth to how we understand our current global setting. While this book is geared towards philosophers, public policy cannot be done well without a thorough understanding of how the Western world’s driving ideologies have changed over the last few centuries. Scruton’s book is concise, yet rich in content, and it will inevitably provoke reflection on modern ways of problem-solving. 24. “The Soul’s Upward Yearning: Clues to our Transcendent Nature from Experience and Reason” by Rev. Robert Spitzer While the book does not shy from invoking scientific terminology, its interdisciplinary focus means it has plenty of content for people of all backgrounds. I highly recommend this book for those who are interested in evidence for God’s existence beyond a religious context. 25. “The Splendid and the Vile: A Saga of Churchill, Family, and Defiance during the Blitz” by Erik Larson The dogged and inspirational Churchill carried the U.K. through its darkest hours through courage, grit, and a determined courting of U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt. Churchill knew that the war could never be fully won without the entrance of the U.S. on the side of the allies, with his perseverance eventually rewarded. Churchill believed that the U.K.’s partnership with the U.S. was so important that he, and much of the senior British government, risked sailing across the Atlantic in 1941 to spend Christmas in Washington to discuss the war. Larson gives life to a number of lesser known but still historically important cast of characters around Churchill, from Lord Beaverbrook, the eccentric Minister of Aircraft Production, who greatly increased the number of fighters the U.K. produced during a critical time; to Churchill’s wife, Clementine; his children; key Downing Street aides; and emissaries of Roosevelt, who were given a front-row seat to the inner workings of the Churchill government. “The Splendid and the Vile” is a great read for anyone who enjoys World War II history or is a student of the U.S.-U.K. special relationship. — Daniel Kochis is a policy analyst for European affairs at The Heritage Foundation’s Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom. 26. “A Time to Build: From Family and Community to Congress and the Campus, How Recommitting to Our Institutions Can Revive the American Dream” by Yuval Levin. The year 2020 has been filled with voices calling for destruction. On both the left and the right, real and perceived failures in our institutions have given way to agitation and pressure to tear down what has taken generations to build. Yuval Levin gives the antidote to this social degeneration by calling on (particularly) Americans to redeem our present reality and build up our most time-honored values as embodied in our institutions. For citizens and readers seeking a constructive, unifying path forward in 2021, this book is a must-read. — Ross Hougham is a program associate for the Truluck Center at The Heritage Foundation. The Election Debacle Part 4
Posted: 04 Jan 2021 03:23 PM PST
by John Velisek: America must get back to the basics. Our elections are so far afield from what our Founders intended that we are now in the midst of a contested election. The lies and misconduct of the officials in charge are enough to anger most citizens. The media and the progressive socialists in the Democrat party are attempting to tilt the scales in their lust for power. The judicial branch, up to the Supreme Court, turns away from the proven fraud that is laid bare. Questions are being asked, facts are ignored, and the media turns a blind eye to the damage that is coming to the legal electorate of our country. The talking heads in the media continually spew forth the lies, claiming that you must be a conspiracy theorist if you believe voter fraud occurred. They refuse to cover the affidavits and data or allow the American people to view it so that they may understand how widespread the scam has become. The progressive socialists could not fathom the depth of the populist movement instigated by President Trump and could not know how far to go with the fraud. Hence, the mail-in voting is supposedly required by the Chinese virus pandemic. The mail-in voting, along with counting well past election day itself, would give them the opportunity to see how deep the fraud needed to be. That was why the stoppage of vote counted in states such as Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan, and Wisconsin until the required fraudulent ballots could be added to the system. In Milwaukee, wards close registered voters topped 200 Percent of citizens. In seven wards, the turnout exceeded 100% and in two wards exceeded 200%. No explanation was given, and of course, the media and progressive socialists in these wards refuse to explain these figures. Those in charge of electoral integrity in these wards claimed that the voter rolls have since been updated. Perhaps that is true, but cleaning the voter rolls AFTER the election is just a quick way to make verification impossible. 234,000 registered voters were found before the election to be illegal that the Wisconsin Election Commission refused to remove from the rolls. Wisconsin statute 6.50 requires the follow Electronic Registration guidelines and notify the elector by first-class mail to apply for a continuation of registration within 30 days. This notification was not done in the heavily Democratic districts, and those votes were counted in the election sent in by phantom voters. In Nevada, people without a Nevada drivers license or ID card were allowed to vote and told to go to their nearest DMV office and get an expedited driver’s license so that they would show up as “registered.” This process also serves as a voter registration application. The Field Services Administrator, in an internal memo to DMV offices, informed the poll workers that these “customers” would not be turned away. How many times did this happen in Nevada? Nobody knows because the Board of Elections and Secretary of State refuse to investigate. Did something in this vein happen in other states as well? The sticking point is that Nevada laws state that voters must be registered to vote BEFORE the election. Even same-day registration allowed in Nevada requires the voter to bring a Nevada driver’s license or ID to register. In Wayne County, Michigan has presented evidence and eyewitness accounts that at least 40,000 unsecured ballots arrived in vehicles with out of state plates at the TCF Center in Detroit. These ballots were brought to the TCF Center at 4 am on November 4. There were more illegal ballots brought in on November 4 at about 9pm. After checking, it was found that the names on these ballots were not names of registered voters, and no verification was performed. The names were manually added to the QVF system that controls the voter rolls. These illegal ballots were added to the voter rolls under the Wayne County Clerk orders, all with a bogus birthdate of January 1, 1900. Election regulations state that all absentee voters must be added to the rolls by 9 pm on November 3. All of these ballots were for Joe Biden, as sworn to in affidavits bey observers that were there. There have also been documented proof that there were other ballots numbering in the tens of thousands that were also counted despite voting election law by local Democrat officials’ direction. Supervisors were instructing the ballot counter to backdate ballots to meet the legal criteria for counting. After being brought to the light of the fraud occurring during early vote counting and the general election, observers were locked out of the center. One observer, Daniel Gustafson, signed an affidavit stating he witnessed tens of thousands of ballots that were not sealed, in a tamperproof container, or in any chain of custody, as required by both federal and state law. The numbers of ballots tracked in precinct books did not match the number of ballots counted. This has not been explained, and the progressive socialists running the fraud refuse to audit the ballots or investigate the mismatching totals. The Attorney General, Nessel, has even gone so far as to threaten the observers and lawyers attempting to find the truth. Also not answered is the fact that in one set of ballots delivered in the dark of night, 60% of the ballots have the same signature. The ballot counters never questioned this or by the supervisors that should have thrown those ballots out. But the votes were for Biden, so they were run through, many of them multiple times. A preliminary audit by a Michigan judge claimed the Dominion systems were “intentionally and purposely designed with inherent errors to create systematic fraud and influencing election results. In Pennsylvania, over 100,000 mail-in votes showed up as valid that were put into the system the same day the ballots were mailed, the day after which is illegal and even before being mailed. Over 51,000 ballots were marked as returned jus a day after they were sent out, 35,000 were returned on the same day they were mailed, 23,000 have a return date earlier than the sent out date, and more than 9,000 had no sent date. Even USPS field engineers declared such numbers shown in the Pennsylvania database were “impossible.”Once again, the progressive socialists and RINO’s who are in charge will not explain how this could be, and the MSM refuses to cover the anomalies. Interesting is also the fact that several memory sticks used in the system’s programming and a laptop to be used during the election were stolen from a warehouse before the election. A study in 2019 by the Pennsylvania Department of Auditor General released a report that shows non-cooperation and lack of required information from the office of the Pennsylvania Secretary of State, Department of Transportation, and four county agencies. Even without this cooperation identified tens of thousands of potential duplicate and inaccurate voter records, as well as nearly 3000 dead on the voter rolls. The Secretary of State was notified of the findings of the report that found: 24,408 cases of a driver’s license number on more than one ballot. 13,913 duplicate voter registrations 6,816 birthdate inaccuracies 2,991 deceased voters. The Public Interest Legal Foundation has placed the number of deceased voters on the Pennsylvania voter rolls at 21,000. None of the irregularities have been investigated or removed from the voter rolls before the 2020 election. In Georgia, progressive socialist leftists used a false water main break to count thousands of fake ballots for Biden, pulling them out from underneath desks. Votes that were received late were intermingled with valid votes to hide invalid votes, mostly for Joe Biden. In Arizona, the Maricopa County Board of Electors refused to comply with two subpoenas issued by the Senate Judiciary Committee. These subpoenas called for a full forensic audit of ballot tabulation equipment and the election management system. The county states that the Senate has no standing to demand such data, although both federal and state law declares that the legislature maintains the rule and regulation pertaining to elections, including the opportunity to question and irregularities in the election. The progressive socialist has quashed fraud in Arizona for reasons that misrepresent the truth. Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, a progressive socialist Democrat, rejected a request for an independent analysis of voting data statewide because it would amplify the voices of the people who seek to undermine the democratic process. Or is it perhaps the election was fraudulent because of leftists like Hobbs stealing votes and packing the ballot box. Contrary to Hobbs’ pronouncement that there is no controversy about the election, affidavits show a preponderance of proof of tampering with the electoral process on behalf of the leftist political elites who control the operation of elections. These socialists still have not explained the “green button” that was used to supposedly used to reset the was used to cause ballots not to be tabulated and disqualified. This happened to many Trump voters who were told that using a Sharpe to mark the ballots was okay but later rejected these ballots. It is incontrovertible that this election was a fraud. Votes throughout the country were taken from Republicans at all levels and switched to progressive socialist Democrats. Media sycophants and left-leaning judges have refused to investigate this fraud. Nor has anyone explained that votes were changed in massive amounts with votes taken from Republicans and given to Democrats. It was strategy years in the making to disenfranchise the American voter for the socialist agenda. There is no way other than fraud to explain the massive changes in many states. In Pennsylvania, a supposed “glitch” was uncovered where 20,000 votes were switched from Trump to Biden. This same “glitch” switched 6,000 votes in Georgia from President Trump to China Joe. In just one Wisconsin county, Rock County, 10,000 votes were switched to Biden from President Trump. Computer experts and IT professionals have shown that the signature verification standard was reduced to 40%. The American people see through this fraud, and it will be a long four years for the progressive socialists. President Trump and a majority of patriots in this country will continue to fight. It is imperative that the Georgia legislature take back the oversight of elections and election counting in the two Senate runoffs or the progressive socialist will steal those as well. It’s time to fight back and stand for the constitutional right of fair elections. Tags: John C. Velisek, The Election Debacle, Part 4To share or post to your site, click on “Post Link”. 48.) NBC MORNING RUNDOWN
Tuesday, January 5, 2021
Good morning, NBC News readers.
The U.S. faces two consequential political moments as the coronavirus pandemic rages on and forces the U.K. to take on drastic new lockdown measures.
Here is what we’re watching this Tuesday morning.
Georgians urged to ignore disinformation and vote in crucial runoffs Georgians head to the polls today to cast their ballots in two races that will determine control of the U.S. Senate.
President Donald Trump headlined a rally Monday evening to drum up support for the two incumbent Republicans, but quickly shifted to attacking members of his own party and spreading more misinformation about voter fraud in the 2020 elections.
President-elect Joe Biden also appeared in the state on Monday and made a final pitch for the Democrats running in the crucial runoffs.
“Georgia, the whole nation is looking to you,” Biden said, urging voters to give him a Democratic Senate to work with in Washington. “One state can chart the course not just for the next four years, but for the next generation.”
The rallies came as a top Georgia election official, Gabriel Sterling, made an impassioned plea to voters to ignore Trump’s disinformation about voter fraud in the state.
In a stinging rebuff of the president, Sterling went point-by-point through the conspiracy theories Trump raised in his hourlong phone call with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger in which Trump could be heard pleading with the official to overturn the election results.
So far, more than 3 million people have already voted in the runoffs, shattering turnout records for an off-cycle race.
Meantime, Democrats have asked the FBI to investigate Trump after the leaked phone call with Raffensperger.
But while Trump’s call might have violated federal and state election laws, it will be hard to prove that in court, legal experts say.
Fireworks instead of ho-hum bureaucracy? What to expect when Congress meets to confirm Electoral College results The Electoral College vote count in Congress on Wednesday is expected to be a much longer — and more contentious — affair than normal.
Some Republican lawmakers plan to use the procedural vote count to object to Biden’s wins in numerous swing states in a Hail Mary-type bid to keep Trump in the White House.
The objections are expected to fail, but they could turn the typically short ceremony into an hours- or even days-long event. Check out a primer on what to expect from NBC News’ Dareh Gregorian.
Washington, D.C.’s mayor has called up the National Guard in anticipation of pro-Trump demonstrations planned to coincide with Congress meeting to certify the election results.
A Proud Boys leader was arrested when he entered the city Monday. He is accused of destroying a Black Lives Matter sign at a historic Black church in D.C. during a pro-Trump rally last month.

Quote of the day “Again, all of this is easily provably false and yet the president persists and by doing so undermines Georgians’ faith in the election system.” — Gabriel Sterling, a Georgia election official, said Monday, urging residents to vote in the state’s Senate runoff elections.

49.) NBC FIRST READ
|
From NBC’s Chuck Todd, Mark Murray, Carrie Dann and Melissa Holzberg
FIRST READ: Here’s what we know (and don’t) about tonight’s crucial Senate runoffs in Georgia
We don’t know who’s going to win today’s twin Senate runoffs in Georgia – given the close initial results in November, the close and scarce polling, and the uncertainties about turnout in January.
REUTERS/Jonathan Ernst
But here’s what we DO know:
- The outcome will decide which party controls the U.S. Senate. (If Democrats win both, they’ll retake control of the chamber; if they don’t, Republicans will hold on.)
- Which party controls the Senate will shape what kind of policies we’ll see from the incoming Biden administration. (See below for more on that.)
- Who wins tonight will tell us a lot about Trump’s political viability and fortunes in 2022 and 2024. (The GOP losing these two contests – and Senate control – after what’s happened in the last two months won’t look good on Trump’s resume. By contrast, the GOP winning despite it all will offer more proof that Trump’s behavior has had less of a downballot impact than you might think.)
- The outcome could give us an indication about how long Wednesday’s Electoral College challenge on Capitol Hill is going to last. (Defeats in Georgia won’t exactly energize the Republicans challenging the outcome.)
- And, like we saw in November, don’t be surprised if it takes a day or more to determine the winners in these two runoffs.
As the AP reminds us, Georgia doesn’t count ballots – including absentee ones – until the polling places close at 7:00 pm ET, although the state does require election officials to begin processing the absentee ballots.
So let’s be patient. After all, NBC News didn’t project Biden’s 12,000-vote victory in Georgia until Nov. 13, which was 10 days after Election Day.

Watching the margins and the key counties
But when the votes start coming in, we can track how the two Democratic candidates – Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock – are faring compared to margins we saw in the key counties back in November.
In November’s initial race, GOP Sen. David Perdue ran ahead of Ossoff in the state, 49.7 percent to 48.0 percent.
So if Ossoff and Warnock are outperforming Ossoff’s margins from November, they’re likely going to win.
If they’re not, they’re going to lose.
Here are the key county-by-county splits in that initial Perdue-vs.-Ossoff contest:
The Atlanta Suburbs
Fulton (the most vote-rich county in the state): Ossoff 69.8%, Perdue 28.1%
Gwinnett (outside Atlanta’s city limits): Ossoff 56.8%, Perdue 40.6%
Cobb (another Atlanta suburb): Ossoff 54.0%, Perdue 43.4%
DeKalb (contains about 10 percent of Atlanta; majority black): Ossoff 81.2%, Perdue 16.8%
Henry (Atlanta suburb): Ossoff 58.8%. Perdue 39.0%
Clayton (was represented by the late John Lewis): Ossoff 84.4%, Perdue 13.4%
Douglas (another Atlanta suburb that was reliably GOP until 2008): Ossoff 61.1%, Perdue 36.5%
Savannah
Chatham (Georgia’s most populous county outside of Metro Atlanta): Ossoff 57.6%, Perdue 40.2%
The big GOP-leaning counties
Cherokee (exurban Atlanta): Perdue 69.2%, Ossoff 27.8%
Forsyth (exurban Atlanta): Perdue 66.8%, Ossof 30.6%
Hall (exurban Atlanta): Perdue 71.1%, Ossoff 26.2%
Paulding (exurban Atlanta): Perdue 63.3%, Ossoff 34.0%
Columbia (outside of Augusta): Perdue 62.9%, Ossoff 34.7%

Talking policy with Benjy: GA runoff edition
Georgia’s runoffs could determine trillions of dollars in new spending and taxes, even in a closely divided Senate, NBC’s Benjy Sarlin writes.
While Democratic priorities on issues like voting rights and immigration, as well as contentious proposals to expand the courts, would likely be off the table without GOP support, much of Biden’s agenda could pass via the same budget reconciliation procedure Senate Republicans used under Trump, which only requires a bare majority.
At the top of the list: A much larger coronavirus relief package. Democrats, including the Georgia Senate candidates, have echoed the president’s call for a round of $2,000 stimulus checks and want to fund state and local budgets. Biden’s “Build Back Better” plan calls for $2 trillion in investments related to climate change and $775 billion to help fund child and elder care, among other items.
Just as the GOP tried to repeal chunks of the Affordable Care Act via reconciliation, Biden could expand it. Adding a strong public option may be too heavy a lift, but Biden’s plan also calls for expanding the law’s subsidies to cover more people at all incomes and lower deductibles.
While Biden has pledged not to raise taxes on incomes below $400,000, he’s proposed an estimated $2 trillion in new tax revenue that he would raise by reversing parts of the Trump tax cuts and imposing new taxes on higher incomes and investments. Some of the money would go to expanding child tax credits for middle and lower incomes.

Biden: If the GOP wins, you’re not getting those checks
During his rally in Georgia last night, President-elect Biden seemed aware of the policy stakes in Georgia.
“If you send Sens. Perdue and Loeffler back to Washington, those checks will never get there. It’s that simple. The power is literally in your hands. By electing Jon and the reverend, you can break the gridlock that has gripped Washington and this nation. With their votes in the Senate, we’ll be able to make the progress we need to make on jobs, on health care, on justice, on the environment, on so many important things,” he said.

62.) 1440 DAILY DIGEST
No images? Click here Good morning. It’s Tuesday, Jan. 5, and Georgia hosts two of the most hotly anticipated runoff elections in recent memory today. Have feedback? Let us know at hello@join1440.com. First time reading? Sign up here. NEED TO KNOWAll Eyes on GeorgiaGeorgia voters head to the polls today, casting ballots in a pair of runoff elections that will determine control of the Senate and have significant ramifications for incoming President Joe Biden’s agenda. In the first race, incumbent Sen. David Perdue (R) faces challenger Jon Ossoff (D). Perdue tallied roughly 88,000 more votes than Ossoff in the Nov. 3 election, but his 49.7% vote share fell just short of the 50%-plus-one-vote threshold needed to avoid a runoff under state law. Libertarian candidate Shane Hazel won 2.3% of the vote in the first race; Perdue and Ossoff are the only candidates in the runoff. In the second race, incumbent Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R) faces challenger Raphael Warnock (D). Loeffler, appointed in 2019 to replace the retiring Johnny Isakson, won 26% in the Nov. 3 election, compared to Warnock’s 33%. However, among the 20-candidate field was former Rep. Doug Collins (R, GA-9), who accounted for almost 20% of the vote. More than 3 million people, or 40% of the state’s registered voters, have cast early ballots. Of the relatively few polls conducted, both Democrats show a small lead, though well within the margin of error. President-elect Joe Biden won the state by a 12,000-vote margin, but Republicans have only lost one statewide runoff in Georgia since 1988. The pivotal elections come one day ahead of a joint session of Congress to certify the Electoral College votes, formalizing Biden as the next president. A number of GOP lawmakers have said they will object to certification (see process), though the outcome is unlikely to change—majorities in both chambers, including the Democrat-controlled House, would have to uphold the objection. Assange Extradition Denied A British judge denied the extradition of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange to the US yesterday, citing mental health problems and a risk of suicide if transferred. The decision, for now, prevents the prosecution of Assange on 18 felony charges brought under the Espionage Act in May 2019. While Assange’s WikiLeaks has a long history of publishing private, sometimes classified, information typically obtained via hacks by third parties, the allegations relate specifically to a 2010-11 document dump of classified intel painting a bleak picture of the US wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The vast majority of the documents were provided by former intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning, who was allegedly assisted by Assange in hacking a military computer. While Manning was court-martialed in 2013, Assange claimed asylum in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London for seven years before being forced out in 2019. The case has become a flashpoint for international press freedom groups, though the judge rejected Assange’s claim that his actions were protected by the First Amendment. 20% EnrichmentIran has resumed production of 20% enriched uranium at its underground Fordo complex, officials acknowledged yesterday. The news comes a day after the one-year anniversary that Qasem Soleimani, the country’s highest-ranking military officer, was killed in a US-led drone strike. Most commercial nuclear power reactors rely on natural uranium enriched with 3%-5% of the fissile uranium-235 isotope (see 101). Reactors with 20% enrichment are typically used for research, though the enriched material itself is the basis for weapons-grade uranium, which must be enriched to around 90%. Experts say the leap from low- to weapons-grade uranium can be reached fairly quickly, and estimates of Iran’s breakout time—how quickly it can produce a nuclear weapon—are around one year. See an overview of the Fordo complex here (w/video). ONE LESS THING TO WORRY ABOUTIs getting life insurance on your to-do list for 2021? Policygenius can help you cross it off with ease.
