Dan Primack discovered in a fascinating series of conversations for his “Axios Re:Cap” podcast that key American decision-makers — mostly non-politicians — sensed what was coming earlier than most.
- Primack told me: These are people who’ve spent their lives making big decisions after analyzing all the data — whether in business or medicine or politics. And they ended up making the most consequential decisions of their lives with what they knew was imperfect information.
In interviews for this week’s Re:Cap series, “The Week America Changed,” leaders in the public and private sectors described their growing awareness of just how bad things could get:
- Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg says Mark Zuckerberg came to her in January, based on some of the health work he’d done with the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, and said they should prepare for the possibility of everyone working from home.
- NBA commissioner Adam Silver in January attended a Brooklyn Nets game, during which he ran into a virologist who had advised the league on HIV after Magic Johnson tested positive. The doctor told Silver his entire team was refocusing exclusively on COVID-19.
- Los Angeles schools superintendent Austin Beutner said: “We worked through the night with Apple taking inventory out of their stores … We said, ‘Tell you what, can you pull them out of all your stores?’ And they did. That’s how we got our computers.”
Other episodes include conversations Anthony Fauci (posting this afternoon) and White House chief of staff Ron Klain (posting tomorrow).
President Biden continued moving his goalposts forward in his first prime-time address:
- He said he’ll insist every state make every adult eligible to sign up for the COVID vaccine by May 1. And he said “small groups” will be able to celebrate the Fourth of July together.
- Biden promised: “[W]e’ll have enough vaccine supply for all adults in America by the end of May. That’s months ahead of schedule.”
Why it matters: Biden wants to give Americans hope — while giving himself deadlines he can meet or beat.
- 100 days … July 31 … Christmas: Biden repeatedly has used specific markers to try to break through with average Americans. That allows him to rack up a series of successes on the sole task on which he’ll be judged — taming the pandemic.
Biden said he remains on a “war footing” against COVID:
[I]f we do our part, if we do this together, by July the 4th, there’s a good chance you, your families, and friends will be able to … have a cookout and a barbecue and celebrate Independence Day.
After this long hard year, that will make this Independence Day something truly special, where we not only mark our independence as a nation, but we begin to mark our independence from this virus.

Tim Berners-Lee, the computer scientist who first sketched the World Wide Web in the 1980s, is celebrating his offspring’s 32nd birthday by advocating for “young people who realize that the world does not have to be the way it is.”
- Berners-Lee, 65, is pushing to bring online access to the one-third of global youth who lack it. He told Axios managing editor Scott Rosenberg that somewhere among those young people, there’s likely to be someone who’ll create something as world-changing as he did.
Berners-Lee and Rosemary Leith, co-founders of the World Wide Web Foundation, are spotlighting the work of nine young people who have used the web to improve the world.

Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. won’t run for a fourth term and plans to leave office on Dec. 31, he told The New Yorker’s Jane Mayer in a wide-ranging interview published this morning.
- Why it matters: That leaves Vance with just nine months to make a charging decision in the biggest case of his career — a criminal investigation of Donald Trump and his business empire.
A majority of New York legislators called for the resignation of Gov. Andrew Cuomo, threatening his grip on power.
- Democrats in the state Assembly launched an impeachment investigation and police in the state capital said they stood ready to investigate a groping allegation, AP reports.
At least 121 members of the state Assembly and Senate have publicly said Cuomo should quit, including 65 Democrats and 56 Republicans.
President Biden and his counterparts from India, Japan and Australia — collectively known as “the Quad” — will announce a plan today to increase vaccine supplies to countries in Asia, Axios’ Bethany Allen-Ebrahimian and Dave Lawler report.
- Why it matters: Biden’s engagement shows a growing commitment to a group the U.S. sees as key to countering Chinese influence in the Indo-Pacific. Beijing has pledged to provide vaccines to countries around the world, putting the Biden administration on the back foot.

Direct deposits from President Biden’s $1.9 trillion stimulus bill will start hitting Americans’ bank accounts “as early as this weekend,” then will continue for several weeks, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said.
- In a nationwide victory lap, Biden will visit Pennsylvania on Tuesday. Vice President Kamala Harris heads west, with stops next week in Vegas and Denver.

Escalating a push by ambitious Republicans to spotlight American workers, Sen. Marco Rubio today will side with the union in a high-stakes organizing campaign at an Amazon facility outside Birmingham, Ala.
- “[T]he days of conservatives being taken for granted by the business community are over,” Rubio writes in a USA Today op-ed posting this morning. “I stand with [workers] at Amazon’s Bessemer warehouse.”
Rubio writes that one of his “earliest political memories was marching the picket line with my dad in a Culinary Workers Union strike when he worked as a hotel bartender”:
[T]he lesson I took from it — all workers deserve respect — has stuck with me all throughout my career. Our laws should help build more productive relationships between labor and businesses, the vast majority of which treat their employees with dignity and want to work cooperatively with them.
The trading-card boom that exploded when the pandemic began has recently reached a fever pitch, Axios’ Jeff Tracy writes in a special edition of Axios Sports covering NFTs and the rise of sports fandom investing.
- Amazing fact: Seven of the 10 most expensive sports cards in history were sold in the past eight months — and the all-time record has been broken twice since August.

Good morning from Warsaw. The coronavirus pandemic is taking a devastating toll on the mental health of children. In Washington, President Joe Biden pledged to make all adults eligible for vaccines by May 1, and said there is hope Americans will be able to gather again safely on July Fourth. Meanwhile his $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package is being hailed by supporters as a significant expansion of the social safety net that will lift millions out of poverty. Also this morning:

25.) POLITICO PLAYBOOK
POLITICO Playbook: Last night is why Joe Biden won the presidency
DRIVING THE DAY
Every president is eventually called upon to help us collectively grieve.
JOE BIDEN may be the first president elected to do so.
His speech Thursday night had some important policy promises — by May 1 every adult will be eligible for a vaccine and by July Fourth relative normalcy will return.
But it is worth taking a moment to dwell on this unique pastoral role of the presidency, if only because it has been absent for the last four years and because Biden is being widely praised for restoring it.
Whether it’s a natural disaster, a war, a terrorist attack, a mass shooting — some devastating event that shocks Americans equally and temporarily suspends the usual divisions — for better or worse we turn to the president not just to push and pull the levers of government in response, but also to console us.
The images of those moments are indelible: RONALD REAGAN speaking after the Challenger disaster, BILL CLINTON memorializing the victims of the Oklahoma City bombing, GEORGE W. BUSH with a bullhorn on a pile of rubble and BARACK OBAMA wiping away tears describing the Sandy Hook massacre.
The image last night of Biden retrieving from his breast pocket his daily schedule on which is written the latest Covid-19 death toll — 527,726 — may one day be a part of that grim pantheon of moments.
If politics is about timing, then there can be nothing more morbidly fortuitous than a politician whose own life has been defined by unimaginable loss coming along precisely when a wave of death was crashing over an America searching for some empathy.
By now almost every American knows of someone who died from Covid or someone who died in a way that Covid made worse by isolating them from the person they lost. And though Biden signed a staggeringly ambitious piece of legislation Thursday, he used his evening remarks to speak more to that loss than to the policy details of the recovery plan.
The speech was infused with a set of ideas but not really ideology: unity, self-governance, the virtues of collective action in the face of a common threat and — most of all — moving on from loss:
“While it was different for everyone, we all lost something — a collective suffering, a collective sacrifice, a year filled with the loss of life and the loss of living for all of us. But in the loss, we saw how much there was to gain in appreciation, respect and gratitude. Finding light in the darkness is a very American thing to do.
“In fact, it may be the most American thing we do. And that’s what we’ve done. We’ve seen frontline and essential workers risking their lives, sometimes losing them, to save and help others. Researchers and scientists racing for a vaccine. And so many of you, as Hemingway wrote, ‘Being strong in all the broken places.’”
That’s not exactly the ERNEST HEMINGWAY line, which is from “A Farewell to Arms” and is a little more bleak than how he used it: “The world breaks every one and afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills.”
But either way it is hard to imagine any other contemporary politician making the speech Biden did Thursday night — both channeling our collective sorrow and reminding us that there is life after grief.

SCOOP: TRUMP AND NRSC CHAIR BREAK BREAD AT MAR-A-LAGO — After the back-and-forth last week between the former president and the GOP’s campaign committees over using his name for fundraising, DONALD TRUMP dined at Mar-a-Lago on Thursday night with NRSC Chair RICK SCOTT (R-Fla.). They discussed candidate recruitment and getting Trump’s support for certain incumbents in 2022, according to a source familiar.
Trump did not budge on his opposition to Sen. LISA MURKOWSKI (R-Alaska), the source said. But Scott mainly wanted Trump’s take on finding the best candidates for the midterms and how they can team up. After dinner, Trump and Scott made the rounds of the dining area to chat with resort members including Newsmax CEO CHRIS RUDDY, who was dining with actor JON VOIGHT.
SPOTTED: Mike and Karen Pence walking into Worldwide Speakers Group in Alexandria last week, where the former VP discussed joining the paid speaking circuit. Pence, who made his name in radio, recently announced he is narrating Fox Nation’s four-part limited series on Rush Limbaugh that dropped this week.
BIDEN’S FRIDAY — The president and VP KAMALA HARRIS will meet virtually at 8:30 a.m. with their counterparts in the Quad: Indian PM NARENDRA MODI, Australian PM SCOTT MORRISON and Japanese PM YOSHIHIDE SUGA. Biden and Harris will receive the President’s Daily Brief at 10:30 a.m. and lunch together at 12:30 p.m. At 2:30 p.m. they’ll speak about the Covid relief bill from the Rose Garden, with members of Congress attending. The Bidens will leave the White House at 3:40 p.m. and arrive in Wilmington, Del., at 4:35 p.m.
— Harris will also swear in CECILIA ROUSE as chair of the Council of Economic Advisers at noon.
— The White House Covid-19 response team and public health officials will brief at 11:15 p.m. Press secretary JEN PSAKI will brief at noon along with national security adviser JAKE SULLIVAN.

POLITICS ROUNDUP
CUOMO IN FREE FALL …
AN IMPEACHMENT INVESTIGATION BEGINS — “New York lawmakers launch Cuomo impeachment investigation,” by Anna Gronewold and Shannon Young: “Speaker Carl Heastie, addressing Democratic Assembly colleagues in the roughly five-hour meeting, laid out the ‘potential paths forward’ to removing the increasingly embattled governor from office, according to four lawmakers in attendance. Two described the meeting as tense. …
“Heastie said the chamber’s investigation would run concurrent — and would not interfere with — an independent probe Attorney General Tish James has launched into Cuomo, who has faced growing calls for his resignation amid allegations of sexual harassment, inappropriate workplace behavior and a cover-up of Covid-19 nursing home deaths. Cuomo’s administration also referred the latest accusation to the Albany Police Department.”
— “Latest Accusation Against Cuomo Is Referred to Albany Police,” NYT: “Albany Police Department officials said on Thursday that they had received a report from a state official about an alleged incident at the Executive Mansion involving Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo and a female aide that may have risen ‘to the level of a crime.’ … This does not mean … that the department has opened a criminal investigation, but it has offered its services to the alleged victim.”
— “Gov. Andrew Cuomo Aides Called Former Staffers to Discredit Accuser,” WSJ: Some recipients of the calls said that the outreach felt like attempts to intimidate them.”
2022 WATCH — “The Left’s Answer to Trump Is 6 Foot 8 and Wears Shorts in February,” The Atlantic: “Now that [John] Fetterman’s the front-runner in a [Pennsylvania] Senate race that’s sure to be one of the biggest of 2022, skeptics and rivals are looking for his vulnerabilities. The obvious angle of attack, one that some of his foes have landed on already: What if Fetterman’s not the real deal? What if he’s just a trust-fund kid playing dress-up? … Now, though, Fetterman is tired of being reduced to the appealing oddball from Braddock. …
“He’s been simultaneously tagged as a radical left-winger by state Republicans and a worrisome sellout by some progressives. … And he’s fine with preaching heresies that most Democrats running in primaries would back away from. The Green New Deal, he said, is ridiculous for including a proposal that the country should move entirely to renewable fuels over just five years, given America’s energy needs and, as Texas demonstrated after last month’s storm, a power-grid infrastructure that already isn’t keeping up.”
THE WHITE HOUSE
PICKING JUDGES — “Biden Is Vetting BIPOC Judicial Nominees After Trump Filled The Courts With Mostly White Men,” BuzzFeed: “As early as next week, the White House is expected to announce US District Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson as Biden’s nominee for the US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit, sources say, either for newly confirmed Attorney General Merrick Garland’s seat or for a second vacancy that opened up shortly after Biden took office. Jackson is a former federal public defender in Washington, DC, and served on the US Sentencing Commission before becoming a judge; she would be the third Black woman to serve on that court. …
“For the federal district court in Washington, DC, the White House is vetting DC-based attorney Abid Qureshi, BuzzFeed News has learned. Qureshi, a partner at the law firm Latham & Watkins, would be the first Muslim federal judge nominated by a president; there are a handful of Muslim Americans serving as federal magistrate judges, who are appointed by the court where they serve. Qureshi was nominated for the same DC court in 2016 by former president Barack Obama, but the Senate never acted on that and Trump did not renominate him.”
TONY TALES — “Fauci takes on a new role: Biden’s Covid whisperer,” by Sarah Owermohle, Erin Banco and Adam Cancryn: “The straight-talking infectious disease expert has developed an increasingly close relationship with the president, who now leans on Fauci more than any other health official to guide his pandemic response … Through dinners and White House conversations, the pair has built on a connection that began early in the Obama administration …
“Fauci’s ascension from his longtime post leading the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases has left newer health officials such as [CDC Director Rochelle] Walensky playing catch up. While she and other senior health experts are included in conversations with the president about the state of the pandemic, Fauci often takes the lead.”
CONGRESS
IMMIGRATION FILES — “Fears of a border crisis fuel tension in Congress,” by Sarah Ferris, Melanie Zanona and Laura Barrón-López: “For the GOP, the border problems tee up a blame game with an eye toward the 2022 midterms. Republicans are stoking fear among their base of ‘super-spreader caravans’ of migrants — a playbook similar to the one they tried and failed with in 2018, when Trump’s political team sought to paint asylum seekers as violent criminals and Democrats seized the House majority.
“But immigration is a much thornier challenge for Democrats now that Biden is in the White House. This time Republicans can aim barbs at a president whose embrace of comprehensive immigration reform legislation appears to be at least partly the cause of the migration surge, as asylum seekers look for refuge from a friendlier U.S. government.”
GETTING GOP ON THE RECORD — “Schumer puts gun control on Senate agenda,” Roll Call: “Senate Democrats on Thursday announced plans for a floor vote on legislation to expand background checks for private gun sales, which would force Republicans to choose between their party’s traditional gun rights positions and a policy that is broadly popular with the public.
“Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer told reporters there will be hearings at the Senate Judiciary Committee and at least a procedural vote on a bill the House passed Thursday on a 227-203 bipartisan vote.”
AMERICA AND THE WORLD
WHOA — NEW TRUMP DETAIL, via WAPO’S DAVID IGNATIUS’ latest column on Afghanistan: “President Donald Trump was so eager to pull the plug in Afghanistan that in mid-November, shortly after the election, he impulsively signed an order to withdraw U.S. forces by year’s end. Pentagon officials tell me the unpublicized order was quickly reversed, after strenuous protests from Gen. Mark A. Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and other military leaders.”
JAN. 6 AND ITS AFTERMATH
COMING TOGETHER … “Congressional Aides Unite to Push for Change at the Capitol After the Riot,” NYT: “Ms. Mathieu had brought together 10 different staff associations — together representing more than 1,000 congressional staff members, mostly people of color — to push for a safer environment, better work conditions and more access to counseling and other services after the riot. They are also calling for changes to the Capitol Police force, which they argue let them down on Jan. 6, and a say in the makeup of an independent, 9/11-style commission proposed to investigate the attack. …
“The organizations had a long list of requests. They want leaders to reduce wait times for mental health resources and approve emergency funding for lawmakers to support the mental and physical health of their staffs, including with more paid time off and counseling. They want the oversight board of the Capitol Police to include a member of the congressional staff. And they want the 9/11-style commission to look into the disparate treatment that Black Lives Matter protesters received from law enforcement compared with the relatively restrained tactics used against the pro-Trump mob.”
… OR FALLING APART: “Jan. 6 aftershocks worsen as ‘Cold War’ in the House escalates,” by Kyle Cheney: “Democrats continue to seethe over their GOP colleagues who countenanced Trump’s efforts to discredit the election, and blame them for contributing to the atmosphere that inspired the mob. Republicans have largely sidestepped that debate, but as Democrats have begun ramping up tactics to marginalize the 138 House Republicans who voted to reject some of the 2020 results, some are beginning to bristle more vocally. And at Thursday’s hearing, the dam broke.
“Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La.) accused Democrats of an ‘outrageous abuse of power,’ of ‘sparking a political war’ and attempting to ‘criminalize’ GOP dissent. … When it was his turn, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) scoffed at the ‘waterfall of counterfeit outrage and indignation,’ … Raskin went on to characterize the modern Republican Party as a ‘religious cult’ warped in service of Trump, whom he called a ‘snowflake’ for trying to ‘cancel’ the 2020 election, all while his GOP allies screamed about ‘cancel culture.’”
CHRIS MILLER SPEAKS — “Even Trump’s Defense Secretary During the Capitol Riot Blames Him for Inciting It,” Vice: “Speaking exclusively to VICE on Showtime, Miller said, ‘Would anybody have marched on the Capitol, and tried to overrun the Capitol, without the president’s speech? I think it’s pretty much definitive that wouldn’t have happened.’ …
“Miller said he wasn’t sure whether Trump was aware that his speech might have such extreme consequences, but he was certain the attack wouldn’t have happened without them. Listening to the remarks that morning, he said he found some of the comments ‘concerning’ and that they set off alarm bells.”
ACTION PENDING — “DOJ seeks to build large conspiracy case against Oath Keepers for Jan. 6 riot,” WaPo

“The comments from Carlson provoked such criticism among military leaders that top Pentagon spokesperson John Kirby took time at the start of his press briefing on Thursday ‘to briefly address some recent comments made by the host of a popular cable show.’ …
On his Thursday show, Carlson held his stance, adding that the point of the military was not to make people ‘feel valued and included.’ ‘That phrase stuck out, not because we have some hateful bias against pregnant women flying military jets,’ he said, referring to the maternity flight suits. ‘We are pro-pregnancy, as we often say. We are also open-minded. Maybe pregnant women make the best pilots.’”

“But when Lee hit the 16-week mark, a blood test picked up an abnormality that required an ultrasound. Shortly after, Lee’s unborn baby was diagnosed with a rare but serious congenital heart defect called transposition of the great arteries, or TGA. … Lee and Harmon’s son will undergo open heart surgery at roughly 3 days old, and then spend several weeks in the hospital.”

The Morning Briefing: The COVID Panic Porn Freaks Need to Be Shamed and Silenced
Top O’ the Briefing
Just Shut It, COVID Fear Freaks
Happy Friday, dear Kruiser Morning Briefing friends. I have a lot of questions about shepherd’s pie.
So…how are you spending your COVIDversary? It was a year ago today that everything really blew up. We were quickly plunged into a confused collective misery that we thought was going to last just a few weeks.
Bad joke is on us, right?
A year later I’m pretty comfortable saying that we will never return to whatever the heck we thought was normal. “The new normal” is a meaningless phrase. It has to happen for a while before it’s normal. We can’t simply slap a tag on it and say that’s what it is.
We’ve been open here in Arizona for about six months now. It’s the typical COVID era limited capacity stuff but, based on what I’ve seen the last few times I’ve been out, a lot of places have been coloring outside the lines regarding the protocols. Thankfully, I live in a place that doesn’t have a lot of “tell on your neighbors” kind of freaks.
One of the things I most remember from the two grand reopening experiences we had here in May and September was the unbridled joy on the faces of everyone who was out in public for the first time in a while. Well, once we all sat down and took off our masks, that is. It’s hard for me to believe that everyone wouldn’t want to experience that.
Yet here we are.
Even the states that have experienced the most onerous lockdowns are beginning to open up. Sure, New York and California are only doing it because their governors are both neck deep in trouble, but it’s still happening. What’s stunning to those of us on the pro-freedom side of things is that so many people still want to be miserable. The “follow the science” crowd is only following the narrative that’s been used this past year to keep people in a state of acquiescence. It was acquiescence at the beginning, anyway. Eventually, half the country decided that they were morally superior if they just rolled over for every whim that petty tyrants like Gavin Newsom and Andrew Cuomo decided to inflict upon them.
The drooling idiot who is wasting space in the Oval Office read a teleprompter for a bit last night, informing us of the miserable vision his handlers have for pandemic America. Tyler has the details:
On Thursday, President Joe Biden held out a promise of returning to normalcy amid the COVID-19 pandemic that perfectly encapsulates the depressing nature of his presidency. After meandering and dead boring remarks about the toll of COVID-19, the existence of drive-in vaccine centers, and the progress Biden’s administration has made in the past 50 days, the president got to the part of his speech that was clearly intended to be uplifting.
Instead, it will likely hit Americans like a ton of bricks.
In leading up to his grand vision of a restored America, Biden started to get a bit creepy.
“I will not relent until we beat this virus, but I need you, the American people, I need you. I need every American to do their part. And that’s not hyperbole, I need you. I need you to get vaccinated when it’s your turn and you can find an opportunity, and to help your family, your friends, your neighbors, get vaccinated as well,” he said.
There is no beating the virus. The pandemic can be stopped, but the virus will always be lurking out there. Part of the b.s. narrative the tyrants and this moron asterisk POTUS have been spreading is that the virus will be banished forever.
Biden’s puppet masters don’t really believe in science, they believe in power. And they’re not willing to give any of the power they’ve gotten from COVID away soon. Gropey Joe told the American people that we might be able to have some fun by the 4th of July.
Sorry, Drools, I’m already having fun and enjoying the company of my family and friends. You don’t get to dictate that kind of activity in my life. Or rather your handlers don’t.
Anyone like me who celebrates freedom is still ridiculed by the fake science invertebrates. They’re still clinging to the “killing grandma” stuff, portraying anyone who wants to eat in a restaurant as a mass murderer.
These people need to be shamed, shunned, and shut up. So does their paste-eater of a president. We can live our lives and be responsible. The big question is why do leftists struggle so much with that concept?
My answer is that the far left attracts mostly intellectually weak people who don’t have the fortitude to govern themselves. Government is their god. They lack the moral compass that would make them do the right thing by choice.
We can’t have people like that being the arbiters of what’s right, wrong, or safe.
Let them cling to their fear-based secular pseudo virtue. If they want to stay home and keep wearing masks in public forever that would be a great benefit to society.
But they don’t get to have an opinion about what I do.
Ever.
TGIF.

The Morning Dispatch: Biden’s First Primetime Address
Plus: Lawmakers consider whether to boycott the 2022 Beijing Olympics, and an update on the situation at the southern border.
The Dispatch Staff | 9 min ago | 1 |
Happy Friday! Don’t forget to move your clocks forward this weekend. One hour closer to this pandemic being over!
Quick Hits: Today’s Top Stories
- President Biden signed the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan into law on Thursday, one day earlier than expected. He also delivered his first nationally televised primetime address as president last night, telling Americans he will direct states to make all adults eligible to be vaccinated by May 1.
- The U.S. death rate increased by 15 percent in 2020, according to an upcoming CDC report obtained by Politico, the largest spike since 1918. For comparison, the death rate decreased 1.2 percent in 2019. More than 3 million Americans died in 2020, with COVID-19 being the third largest cause of death, behind heart disease and cancer.
- A new analysis of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine in Israel found two doses to be 97 percent effective at preventing symptomatic disease, and one dose to be 85 percent effective. Importantly, the analysis also found the vaccine to be 94 percent effective at blocking asymptomatic COVID-19 infection.
- Democrats in the New York State Assembly opened an impeachment inquiry into Gov. Andrew Cuomo yesterday, one day after an unidentified female staffer told the Albany Times Union the governor had “aggressively groped her” at the Executive Mansion last year. The incident has been referred to the Albany Police Department.
- The House of Representatives passed two gun control bills yesterday. The first would expand background checks to those purchasing firearms over the internet or at gun shows, and the second would expand the amount of time authorities have to complete a background check before licensing a gun sale. Eight Republicans voted for the former, two for the latter. The bills are unlikely to advance in the Senate as currently written.
- Initial jobless claims decreased by 42,000 week-over-week to 712,000 last week, the Labor Department reported on Thursday. About 20.1 million people were on some form of unemployment insurance during the week ending February 20, compared with 2.1 million people during the comparable week in 2020.
- The United States confirmed 64,353 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday per the Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 Dashboard. An additional 1,611 deaths were attributed to the virus on Thursday, bringing the pandemic’s American death toll to 530,713. According to the Centers for Disease Control, 35,983 Americans are currently hospitalized with COVID-19, and 2,482,603 COVID-19 vaccine doses were administered yesterday. 64,071,674 Americans have now received at least one dose.
Biden: America Is Coming Back
President Joe Biden delivered his first primetime address to the nation on Thursday night, seeking to reassure a pandemic-weary public that better days are ahead, one year after the coronavirus ground life as they knew it to a halt.
“Over a year ago, no one could have imagined what we were about to go through,” he said, standing behind a podium in the White House’s East Room. “But now we’re coming through it. And it’s a shared experience that binds us together as a nation. We are bound together by the loss and the pain of the days that have gone by. We’re also bound together by the hope and the possibilities of the days in front of us.”
The president didn’t make much news in the address, but he did make one announcement that could prove significant for our younger readers. “Tonight, I’m announcing that I will direct all states, tribes, and territories to make all adults—people 18 and over—eligible to be vaccinated no later than May 1,” he said. That doesn’t mean everyone will be vaccinated by then, Biden continued, but that everyone will be able to get in line for an appointment—using a new website the administration plans to roll out in the coming weeks.
Underpromising and overdelivering has been Biden’s modus operandi on coronavirus messaging since he assumed office in January. After initially pledging to administer 100 million vaccine doses in his first 100 days—a goal the country was already on pace to meet by the end of the Trump presidency—Biden boasted yesterday we’ll hit that mark around his 60th day.
So when Biden said vaccine eligibility will open up by May 1—and that he hopes small groups “will be able to” gather for outdoor cookouts on Independence Day—know that that timeline is a relatively unambitious baseline, and likely to be exceeded. Alaska, for example, removed all vaccine eligibility requirements earlier this week, and Gov. Ron DeSantis on Wednesday said Florida will likely do the same soon.
Much of Biden’s 24-minute speech was reminiscent of a Great Depression-era fireside chat. The president conveyed a sense of empathy with Americans, who have lost and sacrificed so much the past 365 days.
“While it was different for everyone, we all lost something,” he said, holding up a notecard with the number of American deaths attributed to the virus—527,726. “A collective suffering, a collective sacrifice, a year filled with the loss of life, and the loss of living for all of us.”
“But in the loss,” Biden continued, “we saw how much there was to gain in appreciation, respect, and gratitude. Finding light in the darkness is a very American thing to do.”
China Continues to Crack Down on Hong Kong and Uyghurs. Should the U.S. Boycott the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing?
In a move that completely overhauls Hong Kong’s electoral system, the National People’s Congress (NPC)—the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP’s) parliamentary body—nearly unanimously approved a draft resolution on Thursday ensuring that only “patriots” will be permitted to serve on the city’s Legislative Council.
This new legislation is considered by international onlookers to be the final nail in the coffin of the “one country, two systems” principle that once afforded Hong Kong economic and legal autonomy. But it isn’t the CCP’s first effort to crack down on Hong Kong’s sovereignty in recent months. Last June, it implemented a sweeping national security law in Hong Kong criminalizing “terrorism,” secession, subversion, and collusion with foreign enemies. Pro-democracy protesters have felt the brunt of it.
The NPC’s latest “patriots” resolution applies a political loyalty test to Hong Kong’s largest governing body. Now, a panel in Beijing will be able to vet representatives in Hong Kong’s Legislative Council and purge any member who falls out of step with the regime.
“The greatest impact of the new legislation—overhauling Hong Kong’s electoral system—will be in terms of the messages it sends,” Fred Rocafort, a legal expert on China and former diplomat, told The Dispatch. “Beijing is making clear it expects Hongkongers to make their peace with the paramount and undisputed nature of CCP rule.”
“Beijing knows that its actions will not endear it to most Hongkongers, but it is long past caring. Instead, it wants to reinforce that it is in control. If some Hongkongers choose not to be ‘patriots,’ then so be it—but they will be marginalized,” he added. “Having seen how much of a gut-punch the implementation of the National Security Law has been, the Chinese authorities must feel these new steps will further take the wind out of its opposition in Hong Kong.”
As bad as this is, the CCP’s humanitarian atrocities extend far beyond Hong Kong’s city limits. For years now, the mainland has imprisoned and forcibly sterilized members of the Uyghur population—China’s Muslim minority—in reeducation camps inside Xianjiang. Days before President Trump left office, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo declared Beijing’s treatment of the Uyghurs a genocide—a designation with which the Biden administration agrees. (Although State Department spokesman Ned Price got cagey earlier this week when asked if the administration believes the genocide to be ongoing, or having occurred in the past.)
All of this will serve as the backdrop to a debate that is sure to intensify in the coming weeks and months: We are now less than a year out from the start of the 2022 Winter Olympics, which are set to be held in … Beijing. Should we go?
A growing number of lawmakers are adamant that a boycott of the 2022 Games is in order.
“The Chinese Communist Party is committing genocide at home while seeking to undermine the free world abroad through stealing, spying, and conducting pernicious military activities,” Rep. Liz Cheney told The Dispatch. “Holding the 2022 Olympics in China will legitimize Xi Jinping’s anti-freedom regime even as he carries out atrocities against the Uyghurs. That is simply unacceptable.”
The Situation on the Southern Border
A few weeks back, newest Morning Dispatcher Ryan Brown took a look at what was happening on the U.S.’ southern border, as the Biden administration began reopening Trump-era migrant facilities to house a growing number of unaccompanied minors arriving in the country.
The migrant surge has only continued since then: Axios reported last week that the shelter system is at 94 percent capacity, and the CDC recently moved to allow the facilities to flout COVID-19 social distancing guidelines to account for the overflow.
In a piece for the site today, Andrew provides an update on where things are, and why they’ve gotten this way so quickly after Biden took over.
What concrete changes did President Biden make to U.S. immigration policy that are contributing to this surge?
Two changes concerning U.S. treatment of asylum seekers at the southern border have had the greatest immediate impact: the partial rollback of Title 42, a rule the Trump administration used last year to close the border on account of the COVID pandemic, and the end of the Migrant Protection Protocols—better known as the Remain in Mexico policy—which stipulated that migrants seeking asylum at the U.S. border would remain in Mexican custody until their claim was adjudicated in court.
The administration has insisted these changes were necessary from a humanitarian perspective—thousands of migrants seeking asylum had clustered for months in slapdash camps just over the border in Mexico, living in squalid conditions while their claims inched through sluggish immigration courts. But the changes have also opened the administration to fresh criticism from both conservatives and progressives—for different reasons—as the plan to open the border bit by bit has created new issues of its own.
Worth Your Time
- Utah’s Republican Gov. Spencer Cox joined Matt Lewis’ podcast this week, and he sounded like he wanted to chart a different path forward for the GOP. “There’s more to being a conservative than just ‘owning the libs,’” he argued. “There’s not much interesting policy work going on on the right. It seems we’ve just defined ourselves in opposition to whatever it is the left is doing.” Cox still defines himself as a very “conservative Republican,” but is frustrated with the direction of the party. “We spent money like drunken sailors, and then we’re surprised when the other team is spending money like that. Those are the conversations we should be having, but unfortunately we’re spending more time on Dr. Seuss. But this stuff matters and has long-term implications.”
- As we mentioned yesterday, March 11, 2020 was when things started to get real with COVID. Buzzfeed News compiled an incredible oral history of that day, talking to NBA players, Anthony Fauci, Tom Hanks’ son, Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders campaign staff, TV producers, and many others about the day that changed the world forever. “Everyone saw my reaction,” Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said. “We went from 5% or 10% in my mind to shut down. I was stunned. If it was serious enough to shut down the NBA, it really brought home that this could be a bigger problem than any of us had imagined, not just in the NBA but around the country and the world. You could hear murmurs from the crowd as people found out.”

- The deadline set by the Trump administration to pull all U.S. troops out of Afghanistan is closing in, and Thomas Joscelyn’s latest Vital Interests lays out why the Biden team’s Afghanistan “Peace Plan” is “desperate” and filled with holes.
- On the latest episode of Advisory Opinions, David and Sarah discuss David facing his critics in a Clubhouse session Wednesday night, before turning to the constitutionality of H.R. 1’s effort to federalize elections and the increasing number of state laws that seek to ban critical race theory from being taught in K-12 classrooms.
- On the site today, Charlotte examines Colin Kahl’s embattled nomination for undersecretary of defense for policy. As with Neera Tanden’s failed nomination for Office of Budget and Management director, Kahl’s nomination could come down to whether Sen. Joe Manchin decides to overlook the pick’s contentious tweets.
- Also on the site, Jonah argues comedians should have a healthy sense of skepticism of those in power rather than an instinct toward deference—including for Joe Biden. “Journalism and comedy aren’t the same thing, but they do overlap,” he writes. “Both require skepticism about the way things are, about people in power, about the binding power of conventional wisdom.”

Leftists are flocking to Texas for the freedoms… and then they’re trying to destroy them
Posted: 12 Mar 2021 05:45 AM PST
California, New York, and other leftist states are each seeing their own variations of a mass exodus. The authoritarian rule that has always been present since the modern Democrat Party made their intentions more public is driving people out. Many are conservatives or moderates who are simply seeking freer pastures, but there is also an exodus of leftists who simply cannot abide by what they helped to create through their votes. The logical course of action for these people would be to start embracing conservative tenets after experiencing first-hand what progressives policies do. But that isn’t what states like Texas, Florida, and Arizona are seeing. Instead, they’re watching leftists fleeing their left-leaning states only to come to right-leaning states and trying to make them more leftist. It makes no sense, of course, but logic seems to be missing. Perhaps they want to have their cake and eat it, too. Maybe they’re just gluttons for punishment. But the most likely scenario is they believe they can strike a balance between the freedom loving ideologies of their adoptive states and the radical philosophies of the places they’re fleeing. They want the financial freedom but they want more “woke” policies in place as well. They love that they can be more open with their firearms but want restrictions leveled against others. Like I said, it doesn’t make any sense. That’s what Bobby Lopez is experiencing in his home state of Texas right now. But it isn’t just a political shift that he’s seeing. Both cultural and religious progressivism are creeping in, as he detailed in an interview he did earlier today. he Two Mikes spoke with Mr. Lopez about the inroads being made into the government of Texas, the Texas Democrat and Republican parties, and the Mega Christian churches by the depraved sexual theories of Democratic activists. What is common to hear about pro-depravity policies aimed at children in Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York is, according to Mr. Lopez, gradually becoming common in Texas. In working against this reality, Mr. Lopez has found that Christian churches of all kinds—but particularly the Mega-Churches—are quietly acquiescing in the growth of state-approved depravity education programs so they do not endanger their tax free status. Mr. Lopez also discussed how the great influx of Californians, New Yorkers, and people from other blue states into Texas is quickly eroding the traditional conservative and Christian values of the state.
‘The Purge’ by Big Tech targets conservatives, including usJust when we thought the Covid-19 lockdowns were ending and our ability to stay afloat was improving, censorship reared its ugly head. For the last few months, NOQ Report has appealed to our readers for assistance in staying afloat through Covid-19 lockdowns. The downturn in the economy has limited our ability to generate proper ad revenue just as our traffic was skyrocketing. We had our first sustained stretch of three months with over a million visitors in November, December, and January, but February saw a dip. It wasn’t just the shortened month. We expected that. We also expected the continuation of dropping traffic from “woke” Big Tech companies like Google, Facebook, and Twitter, but it has actually been much worse than anticipated. Our Twitter account was banned. One of our YouTube accounts was banned and another has been suspended. Facebook “fact-checks” everything we post. Spotify canceled us. Why? Because we believe in the truth prevailing, and that means we will continue to discuss “taboo” topics. The 2020 presidential election was stolen. You can’t say that on Big Tech platforms without risking cancelation, but we’d rather get cancelled for telling the truth rather than staying around to repeat mainstream media’s lies. They have been covering it up since before the election and they’ve convinced the vast majority of conservative news outlets that they will be harmed if they continue to discuss voter fraud. We refuse to back down. The truth is the truth. The lies associated with Covid-19 are only slightly more prevalent than the suppression of valid scientific information that runs counter to the prescribed narrative. We should be allowed to ask questions about the vaccines, for example, as there is ample evidence for concern. One does not have to be an “anti-vaxxer” in order to want answers about vaccines that are still considered experimental and that have a track record in a short period of time of having side-effects. These questions are not allowed on Big Tech which is just another reason we are getting cancelled. There are more topics that they refuse to allow. In turn, we refuse to stop discussing them. This is why we desperately need your help. The best way NOQ Report readers can help is to donate. Our Giving Fuel page makes it easy to donate one-time or monthly. Alternatively, you can donate through PayPal as well. We are on track to be short by about $5300 per month in order to maintain operations. The second way to help is to become a partner. We’ve strongly considered seeking angel investors in the past but because we were paying the bills, it didn’t seem necessary. Now, we’re struggling to pay the bills. We had 5,657,724 sessions on our website from November, 2020, through February, 2021. Our intention is to elevate that to higher levels this year by focusing on a strategy that relies on free speech rather than being beholden to progressive Big Tech companies. During that four-month stretch, Twitter and Facebook accounted for about 20% of our traffic. We are actively working on operating as if that traffic is zero, replacing it with platforms that operate more freely such as Gab, Parler, and others. While we were never as dependent on Big Tech as most conservative sites, we’d like to be completely free from them. That doesn’t mean we will block them, but we refuse to be beholden to companies that absolutely despise us simply because of our political ideology. We’re heading in the right direction and we believe we’re ready talk to patriotic investors who want to not only “get in on the action” but more importantly who want to help America hear the truth. Interested investors should contact me directly with the contact button above. As the world spirals towards radical progressivism, the need for truthful journalism has never been greater. But in these times, we need as many conservative media voices as possible. Please help keep NOQ Report going. Bitcoin: 32SeW2Ajn86g4dATWtWreABhEkiqxsKUGn

Democrats want 16-year-olds to vote – but why?
Posted: 12 Mar 2021 05:35 AM PST Many American teenagers will need to wait a couple more years before participating in the democratic process. Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) and her proposal to lower the voting age to 16 for presidential and congressional elections was overwhelmingly rejected by a vote of 125-302 (all Republicans and 92 Democrats voted against it). Many Democrats assert that 16-year-olds are engaged and can attain a driver’s license, while Republicans argue that people under 18 are treated as juveniles in court. Considering the old unattributed adage – if you’re not a liberal when you’re 25, you have no heart. If you’re not a conservative by the time you’re 35, you have no brain – is this battle about political power at the ballot box? Article by Andrew Moran from Liberty Nation. Left Gains New Voters?Contrary to popular opinion on the right, a broad array of surveys has found that today’s teenagers possess more left-leaning beliefs, a common characteristic for youth. For example, a 2019 Pew Research Center study discovered that most Generation Zers and millennials think that “government should do more to solve problems.” Such a sentiment contradicts the fundamental conservative and libertarian principle of “government is not the solution to our problem, government is the problem.” If 16-year-olds were allowed to vote, it is safe to assume that many would vote Democrat rather than Republican. Therein lies the heart of this debate. For Democrats and Republicans, it is about securing or barring another segment of the voting class. It is comparable to allowing illegal immigrants to participate in the electoral process, knowing that most would support the Democratic contenders. San Francisco could become the first major U.S. city to give 16- and 17-year-olds the right to vote in municipal elections. Other smaller cities, including Takoma Park, MD, have allowed younger people to contribute their voices to local elections. Let’s face it: Democrats are already vulnerable heading into the 2022 mid-term elections and the 2024 presidential contest. Progressives can ensure they hold onto power by altering the system to permit an influx of new left-leaning voters. Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY), who introduced a constitutional amendment in 2018 to reduce the national voting age to 16, made it apparent in a statement that she appreciates the youth’s left-leaning positions:
Despite the political cynicism surrounding this issue, it still does ignite a worthy discussion. The Case Of The Low-Information VoterDo U.S. elections need a fresh supply of uninformed voters? Over the years, studies have revealed that Americans’ knowledge of political issues falls short of what many would expect from a superpower. A 2020 Annenberg Civics Knowledge Survey learn that only 51% could name all three branches of government. A 2018 John Hopkins University survey found that a large number of Americans are unaware of how their state governments function or who represents them. A 2017 Haven Insights learned that a little more than one-third could identify their representative in the House. A 2016 Pew survey discovered that most respondents failed to identify the Senate’s makeup or know the number of female justices on the Supreme Court. There is also the scientific factor in the debate. Remember? Listen to the Science (TM) has been the rallying cry of the left, over the last year. If that is the case, here is the University of Rochester Medical Center on the teen brain:
Unfortunately, the U.S. political system has devolved into voters selecting a candidate based on the letter next to his or her name. And it is unlikely the majority of young whippersnappers will be anything different, especially considering that their schedules are more crammed than their older counterparts: studying, extracurricular activities, hanging out with friends, and playing Flappy Bird. Society likes to think that the next generation will be the planet’s savior. No matter how more educated millennials and Generation Zers are, you cannot fault them for their disinterest in politics. Life is more than supporting politicians who engage in legalized larceny and pass 2,000-page bills without reading them. If 16-year-olds are more interested in TikTok videos and reading Søren Kierkegaard, let them be. Why make them miserable like the adults on social media who disown friends and family members, label their political opponents as enemies, or cancel people because they do not adhere to their political ideology? Should Everyone Vote?Voting goes against rational thought: a single vote rarely alters outcomes, sound logical arguments typically fail to persuade most voters, and some people only vote so they can tell others that they voted. Also, as author Emma Goldman wrote: “If voting changed anything, they’d make it illegal.” So, why is there this odd obsession with voter turnout rates and pushing as many people as possible to partake in their civic duty to pull a lever or push a button? As the studies highlight, there is an abundance of low-information voters out there, fueling the argument that there is more of a civic duty to stay home on Election Day. In economics, people are always advised to choose their best option, even if that decision is morose. Lining up for three hours and voting or staying home and binge-watching Seinfeld episodes? Economist Bryan Caplan said it best: “But I refuse to traumatize myself for a one-in-a-million chance of moderately improving the quality of American governance. And one-in-a-million is grossly optimistic.” ~ Read more from Andrew Moran. Sen. Mike Lee hops aboard the ‘too little, too late’ election fraud bandwagon
Posted: 12 Mar 2021 05:10 AM PST “Everything about this bill is rotten to the core. This is a bill as if written in hell by the devil himself.” So says Republican Senator Mike Lee about the Democrats’ H.R.1 election reform legislation that promises to make permanent the 2020 election’s unprecedented use of mass mail-in balloting — implemented with few voter authentication checks and done in the name of a health emergency — that miraculously placed President Popsicle (because he’s cold on the inside and 90% artificial) into the White House. Watching Lee fret about the Democrats’ planned takeover of elections is a bit like watching a child reading “The Scorpion and the Frog” for the first time. “Bad things are going to happen,” Lee said during his interview. Well, of course bad things are going to happen. Bad things have already happened. A lot of bad things. When Popsicle achieved the impossible by winning fifteen million more votes than Obama did in 2012 while simultaneously losing most bellwether counties and traditional battleground states, was Senator Lee too preoccupied with chasing phantom “white supremacists” in his party and condemning patriotic grandparents as “domestic terrorists” to look around at all the numerical anomalies surrounding the election and wonder, “Does something about this whole thing smell kinda fishy?” Republican voters could smell the fish guts of the last election from Georgia to Arizona. They had no problem understanding that mass mail-in balloting had introduced so much untraceable fraud and uncertainty into the election process that nothing about it could be trusted. Polls in November showed that half the country (including 30% of Democrats!) believed that the fix was in to give Popsicle the win. That time, not now, was the moment in history for elected Republicans in D.C. to find some resolute principle, set themselves atop it, and stand upright as if with fixed vertebrae. The war for “election integrity” can’t be won by forfeiting its first and most important battle. The hour to act came and went four months ago. Instead, Uniparty Republicans mostly followed Lee’s fellow Utahan, Senator Romney, in disregarding the election catastrophe before their eyes and scoffing at their own Republican voters who felt robbed naked in broad daylight after watching vote-counters on television discover enough additional Popsicle ballots well past official state deadlines to push the frozen one to victory four days after the election. Senate Republicans ignored the stench of fraud. They insisted on an orderly transition of the presidency because conserving that tradition was evidently more important than conserving ballots for forensic audits. And then they had the temerity to kick President Trump around like a mangy animal during a second farce impeachment proceeding just because he had the audacity to say out loud what most Republican voters already knew for themselves: that the election was illegitimate. Ever the propagandists intent on controlling the narrative, Democrats now insist that questioning the 2020 outcome is part of the “Big Lie” that the election was stolen, a point of view they actually insist on criminalizing should H.R.1 become law. (Once all the ICE detention facilities are emptied, it only makes sense to fill them back up with unruly Deplorables, I suppose.) It is an awfully strange “Big Lie,” though, if the Democrats’ first order of business in the House is to make sure the exact same unlawful rule changes that handed Popsicle victory become set in stone from here on out. That sounds more like an admission of the “Ugly Truth” that, but for the 2020 election having been radically transformed into a contest of which party could harvest the most ballots, President Trump would still be in the White House today. H.R.1 essentially codifies the 2020 contest’s mid-election rule changes by instituting provisions for (1) mandatory voter registration nationwide, (2) the restoration of voting rights for convicted felons, (3) the elimination of photo identification requirements, (4) the expansion of mail-in balloting and the use of unsupervised drop boxes that eliminate traditional chain of custody security for individual votes, (5) the counting of votes received in the mail well after Election Day, and (6) legal immunity for illegal aliens caught voting (as well as a host of other changes meant to keep Democrats in power in perpetuity). As detestable a power-grab as H.R.1 is, it’s preposterous that any Republican who has been vouching for the 2020 election and pretending it was conducted on the up-and-up could now turn around with a straight face and act as if the election changes contained within H.R.1 are beyond the pale. H.R.1 is like an autopsy report for how Democrats killed the last election and installed President Brain Freeze in the White House. The legislation is nothing more than Democrats’ insistence on making legal what they’ve already accomplished. So for Senator Lee now to find H.R.1 a “wildly unconstitutional” usurpation of state sovereignty that will allow revolutionary socialists to “remain in power for many decades to come” sounds a lot like our incredulous frog, stunned and sinking to its death, exclaiming, “My goodness, I just can’t believe that venomous scorpion would steal the next election after stealing the last one. How devastating.” Of course scorpion socialists were going to hold onto and protect their newfound election toy of practically anonymous mail-in voting and turn it into a system for making sure Republicans never win again. It worked so well in 2020 that they managed to take a presidential candidate with historically low enthusiasm among his base and propel him to an 81-million-vote victory! If Popsicle can become the most popularly elected president in history without ever knowing where he is or what he’s doing at any given time, just think what kind of socialists actually in charge of their faculties can be installed once the “2020 pandemic emergency” model becomes permanent law. 150 million votes for Kamala in 2024. 200 million votes for AOC in 2028. 400 million votes for Xi Jinping in 2032! Ah, yes, the “Chinese Century,” brought to us by mail-in ballots…manufactured in China. (For the last sentence, I report directly to Camp Gulag.) It’s as President Lincoln warned: “America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.” When the Great Emancipator warned of America’s collapse, he wasn’t worried about external attacks from Russia and China. He was worried about a corrupt criminal justice system that targets Americans for political persecution. He was worried about a Congress dishonorable enough to conspire with intelligence agencies to take down a sitting president with frame-up jobs, smear campaigns, and public innuendo. He was worried about political operatives capable of permanently undermining Americans’ faith in elections. He was worried about a Supreme Court too cowed into submission by unscrupulous actors or too compromised itself to protect the Constitution and uphold the rule of law. He was worried about people of good conscience looking the other way as great evils occur. He was worried about politicians looking out for their partners in crime while the people they represent suffer. He was worried about what would happen next after a tainted election like the one we saw in 2020. If Senator Lee didn’t realize how dire the situation was until seeing H.R.1 in all its glory, then he has a lot of catching up to do. For the rest of us, the war against radical socialism has been an all-hands-on-deck affair raging for years. Better late than never, I guess. So, Senator, welcome to the party! Hat tip to Hilda. The fascist left proves the political spectrum is based on the size of government
Posted: 11 Mar 2021 03:08 PM PST
The authoritarian socialist left has always been masters at deception and propaganda. This is how they temporarily took control with only 8% of the population and how they take so many false laudatory labels for themselves. As is being proven out, they are the enemies of liberty and yet many far-leftists maintain the false moniker of liberal. Meanwhile, true liberals are trying to warn the rest of us of the danger we face as in the recent PragerU video we’re presenting. Like many who actually believe in the concept of individual liberty and common sense Civil Rights, true liberals do not deserve to be clustered with the extreme radicals of the authoritarian far left. There is only one way to order the political spectrum – by the size of governmentFurther on in the video, Dennis Prager makes the salient point that as a government grows, everything else shrinks in size. The worst of these being liberty, that which those who falsely characterize the political spectrum as one of “conservative/liberal” don’t seem to understand. Government growth always tends to be in one direction, it rarely diminishes in size of its own volition. We are witness to this with the COVID crisis, remember ’15 days to slow the spread’? That was almost a year ago, and some are still trying to hold onto the power they took. Authoritarianism is a leftist traitWhile the fascist left loves to run around flexing its authoritarian muscle, it also has to spend a lot of time denying the obvious. Hence, the reason they tend to project their issues on the right. As they say, If it weren’t for double standards, Democrats wouldn’t have standards at all. This is never more prevalent than in their near-constant accusation of conservatives and other of the pro-liberty right being ‘Nazis’ or ‘Fascists’ whenever the mood hits them – but only those days that end in ‘y’. It was one of the first rules of ‘political correctness’ to never refer to a socialist workers’ party as a socialist workers’ party courtesy of the Soviet Union. But the left has taken and run with that rule, these days it’s verboten to refer to all the eerie parallels between the nation’s socialist left and the Nationalsozialistische deutsche Arbeiter-Partei. Anyone who studies the nation’s socialist left will notice that they do spend an inordinate amount of time spewing propaganda trying to rewrite a historic fact. Or as they would term it ‘debunk’ that historic fact set forth in virtually every dictionary on the planet. These are just some of the propaganda pieces from the nation’s socialist media that all parrot the same talking points:
Violating “Godwin’s rule”Contrast the incessant leftist cacophony with the feigned outrage at the merest mention of the facts of the disturbing number of a common trait between the nation’s socialist left and other national socialist organizations. This has risen to the point of being codified as some sort of ‘rule’ that began as a humorous aphorism known as “Godwin’s rule”. Such that it is ever so ironically used to suppress free speech the nation’s socialist left doesn’t agree with. It has even gone so far as to the left making exceptions for itself on the fly whenever needed. To the point that the purveyor of said ‘rule’ is now an “expert” in the new propaganda words from the authoritarian left. Suffice it to say, this humorous aphorism has become just another vestige of political correctness. A rank double standard of the national socialist left used to suppress speech – in the fine tradition of the Nazi party. The Bottom line: Despite their delusions, logic shows the left is the authoritarian side of the spectrum. We’ve come to a fascinating realization in the past few days that it’s entirely possible that leftists actually think they are on the side of liberty. That somehow their socialist national agenda will free people instead of enslaving them. How this is possible is absolutely mind-boggling given the basic logic of the situation. But understandable if one factor in the plethora of absurd political spectrum models based on non-existent metrics. The problem from the nation’s socialist left is that current events and logic are two factors that obliterate this delusion. While they tend to try and compartmentalize all their actions against liberty, their sum total is adverse to freedom. They can pretend that it’s private corporations here and the government there, but at the end of the day, it’s their side that is attacking everyone’s Civil Rights and deprives them of their basic liberty. The video also proves that liberty is diminished as government grows bigger. Leftists cannot dispute that basic logic. They can try to blame all of this on someone else, but they are the ones pushing authoritarianism. They can try to blame others as being ‘Nazis’ or any other number of pejoratives, but they are the ones expanding government out of proportion. Leftists need to know they are the ‘baddies’, facts and logic prove that is the case, there is just no denying it. Federal ‘COVID’ spending just hit $41,870 per taxpayer. Did you see that much in benefit?
Posted: 11 Mar 2021 03:08 PM PST President Biden just signed his sweeping $1.9 trillion spending package into law. Once this bill hits the books, total taxpayer expenditure on (ostensibly) COVID relief will hit $6 trillion—which, roughly estimated, comes out to $41,870 in spending per federal taxpayer. Article by Brad Polumbo from FEE. Did you see anywhere near that much in benefit? The sheer immensity of this spending is hard to grasp. For context, $6 trillion is more than one-fourth of what the US economy produces in an entire year, according to Fox Business. The COVID spending blowout is at least eight times bigger than the (inflation-adjusted) price tag of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s “New Deal.” Moreover, the COVID spending bills have all lost huge sums of money to unrelated carve-outs, politician pet projects, corporate bailouts, fraud, waste, and worse. In the latest $1.9 trillion package, more than 90 percent of the spending is not directly related to containing COVID-19. Only 1 percent of the money, about $15 to $20 billion, is spent on vaccines. Meanwhile, hundreds of billions go to bailing out poorly managed state governments’ budget holes that predate the pandemic and $86 billion rescues failing pension plans. Meanwhile, billions more go to Obamacare expansion and subsidizing public schools long after the pandemic. And that’s just scratching the surface. The Math Doesn’t Add UpThe numbers here really are quite damning. For the same $6 trillion in expenditure, the government could have given every federal taxpayer a $41,870 check. Or, to think about it a bit differently, it could have written every American roughly an $18,181 check. Let’s compare this to what most Americans actually received. Only someone who fully collected expanded unemployment benefits throughout the pandemic and received all $3,200 in total of the stimulus payments likely received more than $18,181 in direct benefit from this spending package. And that’s a relatively small fraction of the public. Because of the way the government used outdated (and arbitrary) income data to determine eligibility, many more taxpayers saw nothing or little in exchange for their $41,870 share of the cost, perhaps just the initial $1,200 stimulus or none at all. (Meanwhile, billions in checks went to dead people). So, for almost all Americans, the actual benefits of the multiple pieces of lengthy stimulus legislation come in far, far below the figure that they would have received if the entire pile of money was just even split up and sent out. How can that possibly be considered a success? In fact, it’s actually a net negative. Trade-Offs Are InescapableToo often, the stimulus conversation is simply framed around whether we should give money to a certain group of people or program—rather than also including the trade-offs and costs. The question isn’t just: Should we send people $1,400 “stimulus” checks? It is, instead: Should we send people $1,400 stimulus checks at the cost of taking the equivalent amount (or more if you factor in waste) from other people? It’s not just whether we should send $350 billion to state and local governments—but should we do so at the cost of taking an average of $2,442 per federal taxpayer? The Government is Not Santa ClausMoney doesn’t grow on trees. Or, as the great economist Ludwig von Mises put it, the government “does not have the powers of the mythical Santa Claus.” “The truth is the government cannot give if it does not take from somebody,” Mises wrote in Bureaucracy. “They cannot spend except by taking out of the pockets of some people for the benefit of others.” The government cannot create wealth out of thin air. It can only give anyone anything via three ways:
There’s no such thing as a free lunch, and, much to the chagrin of spend-happy politicians’, Santa Claus is not real. Government spending doesn’t create wealth; it only transfers wealth, generally destroying a lot of it in the process. So, unless Americans are actually seeing equal or greater benefit from spending compared to its cost, it’s a raw deal for taxpayers. And for the federal government’s “COVID” spending binge, it’s not even close. Don’t believe me? Well, did you see $41,870 in benefit from these programs? Or even $18,181? For almost everyone, the honest answer is no. Our intention is to elevate that to higher levels this year by focusing on a strategy that relies on free speech rather than being beholden to progressive Big Tech companies. How Rush Limbaugh captured America
Posted: 11 Mar 2021 03:02 PM PST
As we grow up there are people that enter into our lives that we find ourselves admiring and looking up to. For many of us, when we were younger those people were our parents. We tend to take on their behaviors and morph them into our own lives in ways such as the way we act or portray ourselves in the world that surrounds us. As we gather more and more information and begin to build a belief structure we also expose ourselves more and more to the world around us opening up a whole new variety of people to look up too. So what in the world is going through our heads when we decide to look up to a specific person for guidance or admiration? For the most part, everyone we pass by is more or less invisible. Think of all the people you pass by through the grocery store or while you’re filing up gas. I bet if I were to ask you, “What color jacket was the guy wearing next to you at the pump?” Most of you would have absolutely no idea. The people around you are completely invisible to you unless they present themselves in such a way that makes them useful or dangerous within the situation at hand. This isn’t to make you feel bad about yourself, its just the way things are. Just like when you watch a movie or even when you are speaking to someone, your eyes focus on a specific part of the action that presents itself as the most important subject matter within that moment. The same goes for interactions with other people you come into contact with each and every day. Unless they are doing something that draws your immediate attention you pass them by without realizing it. Then there are the instances of shallow attention, 3 year olds are great at this especially if the parent lacks in the discipline department. They shout, they holler, and they cause a scene much to the annoyance of you and the area you are inhabiting. More than likely they gain a bit of attention, but it’s not like you think about them weeks, months, or years later. The attention they garnished was shallow and weak, and unable to captivate the mind and push you to new bounds, it was just a bunch of mindless nonsense that was loud and unorganized just enough to cause a disruption. Every once in a while, someone comes on the scene, and when they do, it’s undeniable that they will not only go places, but they will take you with them. They don’t necessarily have to be the perfect person, in fact they have many flaws, but what makes them appeal to the human psyche is that when they are faced with the world, they prevail. They have a passion to get something done and they do it. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon! We have more technology in our phones than what was in the “Eagle” lunar lander. These two crazy guys, decided to go to where no man has gone before and do something nobody has ever done. That was the beauty of it, they didn’t need somebody to do it before them, they already made it up within their mind that they were going to go to the moon and then, they did it. Our founding fathers did something similar when they created the “American Experiment” giving freedom and responsibility over to the individual and out of the hands of a strong political government or a king. Something never done before, but again, they didn’t need someone before them. They hoisted responsibility upon themselves to become more than just average. If that isn’t something to admire and emulate, then I don’t know what is. Rush Limbaugh forged a path in a very different way, but also in a manner that wasn’t ever done before, in fact it was done in a way that was believed to never work. It was like a thick fog hung over the United States of America, the news wasn’t covering what they should, being bought out by politicians and big corporations. The truth was having trouble seeing the light of day, and if it did, it wasn’t for very long, nor was it presented in an interesting and effectual way. Communism had become greatly weakened and no longer presented a clear and present danger leaving the republican party sort of lost in regards for something to rally behind. Rush saw the world he was living ad begin to speak out, and what’s crazy about all this, is that people listened. He had a way to draw people in that made them feel as if he knew them personally and on their level. He didn’t care if what he had to say would offend anyone, he would simply say it. He spoke the truth in a way that made lies shatter and people listen. He understood that he didn’t have to defend the truth, he just had to present it. In his own words, “The Truth does not require a majority to prevail, ladies and gentlemen. The truth is its own power. The truth will out. Never forget that.” I’m telling you, that the way he shaped the sharing of information, gave truth to power, and the power to the people. The fog over America began to rise. Rush took upon himself the responsibility to educate the people of the United States of America. To show them what was happening behind the scenes, to not take what the mainstream media had to say as fact, but to challenge them and to challenge us to become more aware and to think for ourselves. He placed responsibility back in the hands of the individuals that listened to him stating, “Character matters; leadership descends from character.” What I believe was his largest accomplishment was the fact that he gave the voice of America back to the individual. We are all sovereign people of this great nation that have a say in how it’s ran. The people in government are only there because we put them there, that’s our fault for being lazy and complacent with who we allow to sit in those seats. We the people of the United States run this country, and we forgot what that mean, we have left that responsibility in the mud while we throw up our hands and give up. Rush reminded us, better yet, he showed us that we can and need to be better citizens of this great country. We must educate ourselves and build our characters into that of formidable leaders armed with the truth. Rush of course said some things that I didn’t agree with, and may have even been really dumb things to say, but he was a man after all. He spent more time speaking to America than most men do with their wives, and if you speak that often to someone or to a group of people you are bound to say a few things that may be idiotic or of poor taste. We must not dwell on a few minor instances, after all he was just a man, but he was a man who hoisted the responsibility of education and individuality among the people of the United States through the golden microphone. He was real in so much that he spoke what was on his mind, he never pretended to be something he wasn’t. This is what made him admirable as a man of the people who carried the burden of the airwaves and set an example for the rest of us. As his days drew to an end, when death knocked on the door, he answered with dignity. There was no fear, no regretting or wallowing in what more he could have done. He reflected on his life and the lives he changed and was satisfied with the legacy he left behind, so that when death knocked he was able to walk through the door of this life into the next knowing that the torch would be carried on. So it comes to us, in these people we admire and emulate through our lives as we attempt to make ourselves into better people. In a sense we take a piece of our hero’s with us, we graft them into the being of our lives. The people that come into our lives affect us in many different ways, so pay attention and notice the admirable, the brave, the sacrificial, but also the formidable. Take them as examples and morph them into your walk through this journey of life so that you can better yourself and become more than what you are. Then, maybe one day, you can pick up the torch and blaze your own path into the future, for the future.

Here’s the video from the border Joe Biden wishes didn’t exist
Posted: 11 Mar 2021 02:21 PM PST There is no border crisis according to Joe Biden. Well, technically, it’s not Joe Biden who’s saying it since he’s not saying much of anything to anyone about the border despite the unambiguous fact that it is currently being besieged by illegal aliens in ways this nation has never seen. At least according to White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, there’s nothing to see here… …except, there really is.
This video, taken Thursday morning on the US-Mexico border in southeast Texas, shows human smugglers ferrying people across the Rio Grande. The line to get across looks like a ride at Disneyland before Covid-19 struck. According to 100 Percent Fed Up: We just reported on the (mis)handling Biden’s Border Crisis by his press secretary, Jen Psaky. She cannot come up with solid answers for immigration questions because she knows her administration’s policies are directly responsible for the Crisis at our border that the Biden administration refuses to say exists. Now, new video footage claims to show a massive caravan of immigrants freely crossing from Mexico into America. Do you think these people will be tested for the Wuhan CCP Virus? Do you think they will be vetted at all for criminal history or ability to support themselves without government assistance? Do you think they are well versed and studied in our constitutional republic or common law system so they can properly assimilate into our culture? Or, will they instead demand that we assimilate their politics and culture that they are running from into ours? There is absolutely no doubt that this is a full-blown crisis. Anyone who says otherwise is either ignorant or a Democrat. Or both. Likely both. But as The Federalist reported earlier, this is a problem that isn’t relegated to border towns. The massive influx of illegal immigrants is quickly being felt across the country. It doesn’t matter how the Biden administration tries to spin it, there is undeniably a crisis underway at the southwest border. The number of illegal border crossings is up 100 percent over this time last year, and at this rate apprehensions of illegal immigrants will surpass all of 2018, 2019, and 2020 combined. As of this writing, a record number of unaccompanied migrant teens are in federal custody, with hundreds more arriving every day. The Washington Post reports that more than 8,500 minors are in shelters run by the Department of Health and Human Services, and another 3,500 are in U.S. Border Patrol stations — facilities that are basically concrete holding cells, not designed for minors or families, and not intended to house anyone for more than 72 hours. As of now, however, minors are being held for an average of 107 hours, in violation of federal law, because HHS has nowhere to place them. The largest number of migrants held in these Border Patrol facilities during the Trump administration was 2,600 in June 2019, when President Trump was denounced by Democrats and the corporate press for putting “kids in cages.” The press is now predictably silent, and Democrats deny there is even a crisis. But that, of course, has been as predictable as the crisis itself. President Biden came into office and signed a raft of executive orders that ended key Trump-era policies that had helped reduce illegal border-crossing. The effect of that shift has been profound. From the Rio Grande to Tegucigalpa, word has gone out that now is the time to migrate north, that if you can get into the United States, Biden will let you stay. Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador acknowledged as much after a virtual meeting with Biden on March 1, saying, “They see him as the migrant president, and so many feel they’re going to reach the United States.” Mexican officials are now worried that Biden administration policies are creating a boon for organized crime, which increasingly traffics in migrants, charging each one thousands to cross the U.S.-Mexico border. “Migrants have become a commodity,” one Mexican official told Reuters this week. Cartel-associated smuggling networks are making huge profits charging migrants, most of them from Central America, for passage through Mexico and into the U.S. As in previous migrant surges, smugglers — commonly referred to as “coyotes” — are advising people to bring children with them, even offering discounted rates for adults crossing with children. We have the Biden administration, state-level Democrats, and mainstream media in lockstep on the narrative that nothing bad is happening at the border. The reality isn’t just bad. It’s far worse than most Americans can possibly realize. 48.) NBC MORNING RUNDOWN
Friday, March 12, 2021
Good morning, NBC News readers.
A small backyard barbecue with loved ones this Fourth of July? That doesn’t sound bad. President Joe Biden laid out plans for the nation’s path back to normalcy in a major address last night.
Here’s more on that and everything else we’re watching this Friday morning.
President Joe Biden set a shared goal for the nation trying to claw its way back to some semblance of normalcy after a year of the coronavirus pandemic on Thursday evening: 4th of July celebrations with close family and friends.
In his address marking the anniversary of the start of the Covid-19 shutdowns, Biden offered the country a somber reflection on a year tainted by grief and devastation, while providing a renewed sense of hope that a post-pandemic future is near if Americans do their part. (Watch the full speech)
Biden said there was a “good chance” that friends and families will be able to safely gather together in small groups to celebrate July Fourth. But he cautioned that for that to happen, Americans would need to get vaccinated and continue to follow health guidelines, such as mask-wearing.
To that end, the president announced he will direct states to make all adults eligible for vaccines no later than May 1.
Biden’s first prime-time address came just hours after he signed the massive Covid-19 stimulus bill into law.
So what’s actually in the bill? You might be surprised. NBC News’ Sahil Kapur and Benjy Sarlin lay out some of the key provisions beyond stimulus checks that will put money into the pockets of millions of Americans.
Meantime, keep an eye on your bank account. The White House said some of the $1,400 stimulus checks could hit bank accounts via direct deposit as soon as this weekend.

49.) NBC FIRST READ
|
From NBC’s Chuck Todd, Mark Murray, Carrie Dann and Melissa Holzberg
FIRST READ: Here are the counties that have shifted the most toward the GOP since 2008
Two weeks ago, we wrote about how the Democratic Party’s recent success in Georgia had been building for years, with three suburban Atlanta counties representing the party’s biggest county-by-county gains between 2008-2020.
Today, we look at the opposite question: What places in the country exemplify the Republican Party’s most substantial gains since the start of the Obama era?
Photo by MANDEL NGAN / AFP
According to an NBC News analysis of presidential results between 2008-2020, the GOP saw its most dramatic improvement in three Appalachian counties: Elliott County, Ky; Webster County, W.V.; and McDowell County, W.V.
Elliott County, Ky.
2008: Obama 61%, McCain 36%
2012: Obama 49%, Romney 47%
2020: Biden: 24%, Trump 75%
Webster County, W.V.
2008: Obama 51%, McCain 45%
2012: Obama 34%, Romney 62%
2020: Biden 18%, Trump 81%
McDowell County, W.V.
2008: Obama 53%, McCain 45%
2012: Obama 34%, Romney 64%
2020: Biden 20%, Trump 79%
All three are counties that picked Barack Obama over John McCain in 2008; they all started trending away from Democrats in 2012; and they all gave Trump more than three-quarters of the vote in 2020.
Elliott, Webster and McDowell are also overwhelmingly white, with incomes well below the state median, low rates of college education, and stagnant or shrinking populations (characteristics that those counties share with dozens of the ones that have seen the biggest GOP shifts over the past 12 years).
Elliott and McDowell have been particularly affected by the decline in coal jobs. And McDowell —right in the swath of Appalachia that has suffered the worst of the opioid crisis — has one of the highest rates of drug-induced deaths in the nation.
But there’s something else noteworthy about what parts of Trump’s appeal are and are not transferable: While these counties have overwhelmingly embraced Trump, they also have a long Democratic ancestral history that kept Democrats competitive downballot even as Trump tromped Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden at the top of the ticket.
In all three counties, registered Democrats still far outnumber registered Republicans. McDowell and Webster were competitive in the 2018 Senate race that reelected Joe Manchin, and Elliott County in Kentucky broke for a Democratic governor in 2019 by about 20 points.

The new 12th commandment?
Here’s a number that really stuck out to us in yesterday’s new Pew Research Center poll.
The vast majority of Democrats — 68 percent — said their party should be accepting of Democratic elected officials who openly criticize Joe Biden.
But the majority of Republicans — 56 percent — said their party should NOT be accepting of GOP elected officials who openly criticize former President Trump.
And even more Republicans — 64 percent — say the party shouldn’t be accepting of GOP elected officials who voted to impeach or convict Trump.
We’re reminded of how Ronald Reagan popularized the so-called “11th commandment,” urging the GOP that “Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican.”
That seems to have been superseded by a new commandment for Republicans: “Thou shalt not speak ill of Trump.”

Becerra on track for confirmation
President Biden’s Health and Human Services secretary nominee, Xavier Becerra, is on his way toward confirmation.
The California attorney general gained two crucial votes on Thursday: Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.V., and Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine.
Becerra’s confirmation wasn’t always assured, with some senators faulting his lack of experience in public health.
“While Xavier Becerra and I do not agree on every issue, he has affirmed to me his dedication to working with Members on both sides of the aisle to address the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and the numerous needs of our nation in a bipartisan way,” Manchin said in a statement.
Collins echoed Manchin: “Although there are issues where I strongly disagree with Mr. Becerra, I believe he merits confirmation as HHS secretary.”
The Senate voted to discharge Becerra’s nomination from the Senate Finance Committee on Thursday and the full Senate will now begin formally considering his nomination. NBC’s Hill team reports that the Senate will likely begin working on Becerra’s nomination next week after the Senate confirms Interior secretary nominee Deb Haaland (which could be as soon as Monday).

Andrew Cuomo (D) to resign yesterday. The statement followed allegations that Cuomo groped a former aide after calling her to the executive mansion, the sixth woman to accuse the three-term governor of sexual harassment or inappropriate behavior in the past month. The most recent charge has been referred to Albany, New York, police, while state Attorney General Letitia James (D) has opened a broad probe into the accusations. Cuomo’s administration is also facing allegations they obscured the number of nursing home deaths early in the pandemic, after initially requiring them to accept recovering COVID-19 patients as hospitals overflowed. Yesterday afternoon, the state assembly authorized an impeachment inquiry into both sets of allegations. At least 40 Democratic assembly members signed a letter calling for Cuomo to resign. A majority in the 150-seat assembly, which has 43 Republicans, would be needed to eventually impeach the governor. Cuomo has apologized but denied the accusations, dismissing previous calls to step down while sidestepping questions on whether he’ll still pursue a fourth term next November. NFT Mania ContinuesA work by digital artist Mike Winkelmann, also known as Beeple, sold for more than $69M at Christie’s auction house yesterday. The work was sold as an NFT—a non-fungible token—and marks a record amount in the spiraling crypto art craze. The sale price exceeds that of any work from artists like Frida Kahlo, Salvador Dalí, and others. NFTs are conceptually similar to digital certificates of authenticity that are completely unique and can’t be forged. Similar to cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, NFTs rely on blockchain technology (see 101), which uses decentralized networks to verify legitimacy and ownership. Since digital art (and other digital assets) can often be easily duplicated, these characteristics are viewed as the future of the digital art market. Go deeper on NFTs here. The spectacular sales price appears mostly due to the pioneering use of the technology. Before last fall, the most Winkelmann had ever sold a piece for was $100. See the piece here (but don’t try and copy it). Third Charge in Chauvin TrialA Minnesota judge approved yesterday the addition of a third-degree murder charge against Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer accused in the May death of George Floyd. Chauvin already faces two counts: second-degree unintentional murder and second-degree manslaughter. The former count requires prosecutors to demonstrate Chauvin caused Floyd’s death beyond a reasonable doubt, while the latter count requires demonstrating Chauvin was negligent and took an unreasonable risk while detaining Floyd. The new charge requires proving Chauvin caused Floyd’s death with a “depraved mind”—a legally ambiguous term that experts say is difficult to distinguish from negligence. See a breakdown here. Jury selection began Tuesday—see the jurors selected so far. The trial of three other officers involved begins in late August.
