Alinsky v. Breitbart

In a continuation of a series I did on Andrew Breitbart in 2013, I had mentioned the type of battle we had seen then.

In my 3 years of being involved politically, I had seen the war out there. However, it is not just conservative v. liberal as many think. In all actuality, it is Alinsky v. Breitbart.

What do I mean by the war is Alinsky v. Breitbart? The answer is complex but it is also simple. It is complex because of the media Complex that those on the left use. By the media Complex I am referring to not only the mainstream media but also the way they handle the news. For instance, the media in the northeast had been reporting on the blizzard but failed to report on the conservative march against gun control inside one of the state capitals. It is simple because we can SEE what they had been doing for some time.

The difference between then and now is that we had no way to combat it until now. And THAT is where Andrew Breitbart comes into play. In his book Righteous Indignation, he made mention of what Alinsky looked for in a community organizer as well as how he built his tactics. I will get into the full explanation of how Alinsky did that later, but to sum it up he lays out his plan for the “Have-Nots” against the Haves” in his book Rules for Radicals. While Alinsky had put out a way to divide America, Andrew Breitbart had put out a way to unite America. We have the will and capability. All we have to do is not be afraid to go out there and actually DO it.

The battle is still going on nine years later. As I mentioned in the previous entry, the battle has grown exponentially. The opposition might have a few new faces or principles added, but the philosophy still remains the same. What I did not mention when I first did this series (and meant to) was what Saul Alinsky looked for in a community organizer as well as how he built his tactics. I’ll briefly mention them here, then go fully in depth in future entries.

The four qualities Alinsky looks for in a community organizer are as follows:

  1. Flexibility (Moving from method to method and argument to argument, fighting like a guerilla soldier rather than a coordinated army, not worrying about methodological consistency but rather doing what you have to do in order to win)
  2. Confidence (People who are not weak-willed and shy away from conflict. In other words, go after your opposition with a chainsaw)
  3. Experienced (Embracing Rousseau-like experiential learning and ignoring the wisdom of the past)
  4. Certain personal qualities

Of the personal qualities, these are the most important:

  1. Sincerity (Not only is this good advice for any politician, it is excellent advice for someone trying to work with populations diferent from his/her own)
  2. Curiosity and irreverence (Everything, including values and morality, must be questioned)
  3. A sense of humor (It is a weapon to be deployed as often as possible because it is almost impossible to defend against)

Once he has his organizers, he then laid out following tactics:

  1. Power is not only what you have, but what the enemy thinks you have
  2. Never go outside the experience of your people
  3. Whenever possible go outside the experience of the enemy
  4. Make the enemy live up to their own book of rules
  5. Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon
  6. A good tactic is one that your people enjoy
  7. A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag
  8. Keep the pressure on
  9. The threat is usually more terrifying than the thing itself
  10. The major premise for tactics is the development of operations that will maintain a constant pressure upon the opposition
  11. If you push a negative hard and deep enough it will break through into its counterside
  12. The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative
  13. Pick the target, freeze it, personalize, and polarize it (the most important and famous of Alinsky’s rules, also known as the politics of personal destruction)

After he has his army and his tactics, he provides a simple reminder: The real action is the enemy’s reaction. In other words, you must provoke your enemies into reactions so that you can work off of the reaction. If you do a good enough job, you can force them to make a mistake. When they do, you must be ready to exploit it.

Alinsky then told his followers to use these tactics on both the political and cultural battlefields. However, Conservatives had only been fighting it on the political battlefield, This means that art, humor, song, theater, television, film, dance, are all devices being used to influence the American people. We see classic examples of this with many actors and singers using their celebrity to say how evil and rotten America is, and using social movement and interest groups to do so. Since the 1960s, these groups have been using Alinsky style tactics, and it is tragic that many conservatives had not realized it until now.

This is the Democrat Media Complex that Andrew Breitbart spoke about in his book Righteous Indignation, and it has been made more visible since the 2016 election. However, there are still people who are blind to it or do not care about what is happening. Also, there are many who are still afraid and want to keep silent as to what is going on. The only way to unite America, as well as lovers of freedom all over the world, is to not be afraid and actually find the will and capability to go out and DO it.
