MORNING NEWS BRIEFING – SEPTEMBER 6, 2021

Good morning! Here is your news briefing for Monday September 6, 2021

1.) THE DAILY SIGNAL

September 6 2021
Happy Labor Day from Washington, where policymakers on the left apparently have no problem with woke corporations messing with your finances if you are conservative. Annelise Butler and Anthony Imperato outline the threat. Parents need to take it  seriously when a pro-Antifa teacher feels free to indoctrinate students, Mary Clare Amselem writes. Plus: the president’s new incentive to keep the nation safe; what’s missing from cable “news”; children return to a different kind of school; and your letters on hot topics. On this date in 1995, Baltimore Orioles shortstop Cal Ripken Jr. plays in his 2,131st consecutive game, breaking Lou Gehrig’s record and reviving interest in baseball.

LABOR

On Labor Day, a New Reality for the Unemployed

unemploymentFrancis Scialabba

One of the largest—and certainly the most divisive—of all the pandemic-era relief programs ends today.

Almost 3 million people will lose their extra $300/week in benefits provided by the federal government. 25 states had already wound down the program over the summer, arguing it was keeping potential workers on the sidelines and fueling a historic labor shortage.

The backstory: In March 2020, as the US was shedding almost 1 million jobs per day, Congress authorized an extra $600/week in unemployment benefits on top of what states offered to keep jobless Americans afloat (the $600/week was later reduced to $300 in August 2020).

Around the same time, the government also expanded the number of workers eligible for unemployment insurance (UI) by including people like gig workers and the self-employed. That program, which comprised 40% of all UI claims during the pandemic, also expires today.

In all, the US government has spent $680 billion on unemployment benefits since last March, the second-highest amount among Covid stimulus programs behind only the Paycheck Protection Program ($835 billion).

It’s split the US more than Laurel and Yanny

Critics of letting the extra benefits expire say it’s too early to rip out support for millions of Americans who are still without work because of the pandemic, especially as the Delta variant thwacks the labor market. The economy added only 235,000 jobs in August, much lower than expectations.

But many Republicans and business leaders say letting the extra benefits expire is long overdue. They’ve argued that the additional money disincentives people to look for work and has created an impossible situation for businesses desperate to hire.

While it’s still early to fully analyze the effects of the enhanced benefits on the labor market, preliminary studies show that removing extra UI has a modest, if any, impact on job growth. Economists point to other factors, such as health concerns over Covid and a lack of childcare options, as more meaningful drivers of the worker shortage.

Looking ahead…the expiration of the unemployment programs could lead to $8 billion in reduced consumer spending in September and October, UMass economist Arindrajit Dube estimates.

DEFENSE

For the Defense Industry, 9/11 Changed Everything

A US Army droneUS Army

Leading up to the anniversary of the September 11 attacks this Saturday, we’ll feature stories that explore the economic impact of 9/11, 20 years later.

Up first: The WSJ described the dramatic rise of the homeland security-industrial complex that sprang up following the attacks.

Did you know? Before September 11, 2001, the US had been cutting military spending. At the time of the attacks, spending on the military as a share of GDP had declined to less than one-third of what it was during the peak of the Vietnam War.

But 9/11 “changed the dynamic,” retired Air Force Gen. Hawk Carlisle, now the CEO of a major defense trade group, told the WSJ. Here are a few  stats that illustrate the change.

  • Military spending doubled to $700 billion in the decade following 9/11, to about 20% of total government spending.
  • In 2001, the Defense Department had about $181 billion in contract obligations to 46,000 companies. In 2011, it had $375 billion in obligations to 110,000+ contractors.
  • Increased military spending by the government turned the Washington, DC, area into the country’s hottest regional economy from 2001–2011.

Bottom line: US military spending as a share of GDP has shrunk since peaking in 2011, but the booming homeland security industry it helped create remains a permanent fixture of the economy.

The shooting unfolded before dawn at two adjacent homes on the same property near Lakeland, Florida. Nine hours earlier, deputies received a 911 call from the same home, and a woman reported a strange man parked near her residence who told her he was there because “God sent me here to speak with one of your daughters.” Deputies responded within six minutes, but the man was nowhere to be found.

The sheriff said the same man returned to the home around 4:30 a.m. Sunday and unleashed a barrage of fatal gunfire. A sheriff’s lieutenant initially tried to enter the front door, but it was barricaded. When the lieutenant went to the back of the house, a gunfight erupted.

When the shooting subsided, [the shooter], who was shot once, walked out of the home with his hands up and surrendered. [The sheriff] said [the suspect’s] girlfriend told investigators he suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder and that he allegedly claimed he had been getting instructions from God to do certain things.

1 big thing: Labor surprise
Featured image

Illustration: Sarah Grillo/Axios

Unions represent a larger percentage of U.S. workers than at any time in the past five years, as the pandemic took its biggest bite out of non-unionized jobs, Axios’ Dan Primack writes.

  • Why it matters: America’s labor movement isn’t quite resurgent, but it is showing signs of life after decades of decline.

In 2020, 10.8% of all wage and salaried workers were members of unions, up 0.5% from 2019, according to government statistics.

  • That’s the highest mark since 2015 (11.%).
  • Men were more likely than women to be in a union (11% vs. 10.5%), and the highest age cohort was 45-64 years old.
  • Black workers (11.2%) were more likely to be union members than white (10.3%), Asian (8.8%) or Hispanic (8.5%) workers.
  • A huge gap remains between public sector (34.8%) and private sector (6.3%) workers.

Caveat: The actual number of union members fell in 2020 by over 321,000, but the decline in nonunion jobs was much steeper.

What’s next: The big question is whether labor unions can successfully adjust to the changing face of American work, which is becoming much more about service work than manufacturing.

Today’s backstory: Labor Day celebrates all American workers. But it was the outgrowth of organized labor marches in the late 1800s that effectively doubled as one-day strikes. It became a federal holiday 12 years after the first march, which took place in New York City.

The special part about the Streak was that everybody has their own idea of what their own streak is in their lives. … [P]eople would share their streaks with me: “Haven’t missed a day of work.” “My kid hasn’t missed a day of school for twelve years.” The important thing was showing up.

6. 1 for the road: Anthony Bourdain on the evening rush
Photo: CNN Films

For a special archival issue on food & drink, The New Yorker editor David Remnick resurfaces the 2000 New Yorker article, “Annals of Gastronomy: Hell’s Kitchen,” that helped bring fame to the late Anthony Bourdain, then chef at Les Halles (and New Yorker freelancer):

The orders are arriving non-stop. My left hand grabs tickets, separates white ones for the grill man, yellow ones for the sauté man, and pink master copies, which I use to time and generally oversee the production. My right hand wipes plates, inserts rosemary sprigs into mashed potatoes. I’m yelling full time, trying to hold it all together. If there is an unforeseeable mishap — say, one of the big tables’ orders was prematurely sent out, only to be returned — the whole process could come to a full stop.

“Where’s that f—ing confit?” I yell at Angel, who’s struggling to make blinis for smoked salmon, to brown ravioli under the salamander, to lay out plates of pâté, and to do five endive salads, all more or less at once. A hot escargot explodes in front of me, spattering me with boiling garlic butter and snail guts.

THE FREE BEACON’S DAILY NEWS BRIEF
By Christopher Caldwell
Anatomy of a Pandemic
In this first economic history of the 2020 COVID crisis, Columbia University historian Adam Tooze identifies some harbingers of the new world we have entered. Venerable retail stores went bust: Neiman Marcus, J.Crew, Brooks Brothers. Stories To Chew On
Thousands of book titles start with “The Secret History of… .” It’s dishy. When they finish the phrase with something we can stuff in our pieholes, a hungry audience is almost guaranteed. But is it secrets that Matt Siegel divulges in The Secret History of Food: Strange but True Stories About the Origins of Everything We Eat? And, for that matter, how does it manage to chronicle the edible universe at a thickness less than a Cuban sandwich?

Welcome to The Hill’s Morning Report. It is Monday, Labor Day! We get you up to speed on the most important developments in politics and policy, plus trends to watch. Alexis Simendinger and Al Weaver are the co-creators. Total U.S. coronavirus deaths as of this morning: 648,472.

As of this morning, 62.3 percent of the U.S. population has received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 53 percent is fully vaccinated, according to the Bloomberg News global vaccine tracker.

The Biden agenda came under increased scrutiny on Sunday as White House officials maintained that they will proceed as planned despite warnings from Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) over a possible $3.5 trillion spending package ahead of a jam-packed stretch later this month.

A pair of top officials — White House chief of staff Ron Klain and senior adviser Cedric Richmond — projected optimism during separate Sunday show appearances that Democrats will be successful in advancing the gargantuan proposal, but acknowledged the challenges facing them, namely from the West Virginia centrist.

Klain argued that he considers Manchin to be “very persuadable,” saying that the package “adds nothing to the debt” due to tax increases on wealthier Americans and other provisions. Richmond, a former Louisiana congressman, downplayed the latest trouble spot for the party, adding that Democrats are “full steam ahead” on the massive spending effort.

“Sen. Manchin is a valued partner. We’re going to continue to work with him,” Richmond said during an appearance on ABC’s “This Week.”

“But we’re also going to continue to push our agenda. And part of this … is just the sausage-making process at the end. It just happens. And this is happening in public view,” Richmond added. “But it’s not abnormal for this to happen in the legislative process. And we’re still full steam ahead on trying to get our legislation passed” (The Hill).

Comments from the pair come days after Manchin called for party leaders to take a “pause” in their push to pass the reconciliation bill and raised additional questions about its current price tag. The support of Manchin is crucial to passing the bill, as all 50 Senate Democrats will need to be on board to do so.

The optimism comes ahead of a perilous week for the U.S. More than 9 million Americans are set to lose unemployment benefits, with millions more seeing their weekly incomes fall as a number of federal jobless aid programs expire in the coming days.

As The Hill’s Sylvan Lane details, three programs covering a combined 12.1 million people end today without action from either the White House or Congress. Twenty-six states pulled out of at least some of those programs earlier this summer as businesses struggled to fill a record 9 million job openings. In addition, another 3.9 million Americans receiving extended aid will see their $300 weekly supplement expire starting today.

That development comes on the heels of the disappointing August jobs report released on Friday that showed a major slowdown in hiring due in large part to the delta variant.

LEADING THE DAY
AFGHANISTAN: Klain on Sunday said that there are “around” 100 Americans left in Afghanistan amid reports that the Taliban is not allowing planes to take off from an airport in northern Afghanistan.

“We’re in touch with all of them who we’ve identified on a regular basis,” Klain told CNN’s “State of the Union,” adding that he is “hopeful” that Qatar will be able to resume air travel out of Kabul and to get those Americans on some of those flights.

Klain told host Dana Bash that the administration is also in “close communication” with sources in the region in hopes of getting Afghans who have applied for Special Immigrant Visas (SIVs) out of the country safely.

“I know some are coming out by land,” he added. “We are continuing to work on efforts to get them out by air as well. We’re going to continue to move those SIVs out of the country” (Politico).

The remarks were made amid conflicting reports out of the region. According to The Associated Press, the Taliban had stopped a number of planes at Mazar-i-Sharif International Airport containing Afghans attempting to flee the nation from taking off for days, with one source indicating that many onboard did not have passports or visas.

However, Rep. Michael McCaul (Texas), the top GOP member on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said that the planes have sat there “for the last couple of days,” but have been unable to leave despite approval from the State Department.

“In fact we have six airplanes at Mazar-i-Sharif airport, six airplanes, with American citizens on them as I speak, also with these interpreters, and the Taliban is holding them hostage for demands right now,” McCaul told “Fox News Sunday.”

The Associated Press: Taliban say they took Panjshir, last holdout Afghan province.

The Hill: Domestic flights resume at Kabul airport.

The Wall Street Journal: Inside Biden’s Afghanistan withdrawal plan: warnings, doubts but little change.

Meanwhile, the U.S. is facing a challenge as it attempts to help Afghans settle in parts of the country after escaping and fleeing their home country in recent weeks ahead of the American deadline to pull out.

As Christine Mui writes, thousands of those evacuated who worked with American troops have landed in the U.S. with their families, often with nothing more than the clothes on their backs, creating resettlement issues, headlined by uncertainty surrounding the SIV process, a short supply of affordable permanent housing and high demand for social services. In total, nine nonprofit organizations are contracted with the State Department to place refugees with local affiliates.

“Normally, we would have up to a couple of weeks’ notice before people would arrive, which gives our local colleagues an opportunity to find housing, to equip the housing, to mobilize the local community to support the new arrivals and to put everything in order,” said Erol Kekic, senior vice president of the Immigration and Refugee Program at Church World Service.

POLITICS: The Biden administration’s response to the Supreme Court’s decision to leave standing the Texas “heartbeat” law and the renewed effort in the state to tighten voting laws has frustrated activists as Democrats look to gin up supporters ahead of key elections this fall and the 2022 midterms.

In the face of the Texas two-step, the administration responded by saying the next step is up to Congress. But that reaction has upset supporters on the far left who wish that included a push for more radical changes, including eliminating the filibuster or expanding the Supreme Court, neither of which Biden has indicated support for in the past (The Hill).

Some Democrats have not been as hesitant. Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) told “State of the Union” that the 60-vote threshold in the upper chamber should be scrapped in order to codify Roe v. Wade into law.

“We just will get nowhere if we keep this filibuster in place,” Klobuchar said (The Hill).

Democrats have another emerging fear on the abortion front after the court’s Texas ruling: copycat legislation in other states.

As The Hill’s Justine Coleman writes, politicians in Florida, Arkansas and South Dakota have already committed to at least considering implementing a version of the Lone Star State’s law in their states. However, the situation has left anti-abortion activists with a choice to make in the coming weeks: whether to act now based on the Texas legislation or wait for the justices to rule on a Mississippi law that bans abortion after 15 weeks in the coming months.

“What they did in Texas was interesting, but I haven’t really been able to look at enough about it,” Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) told reporters last week. “They’ve basically done this through private right of action. So it’s a little bit different than how a lot of these debates have gone. So we’ll have to look. I’m gonna look more significantly at it.”

The Washington Post: Republican wins on abortion, voting and guns cap their banner 2021, with Democratic goals in “dire” danger despite Washington power.

> Sunshine politics: Democrats are getting skittish in Florida as a number of national party donors are waiting on the sidelines and have yet to decide whether to invest funds in taking on DeSantis or Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) in next year’s midterm contests.

As The Hill’s Max Greenwood writes, Florida Democrats suffered some of the worst defeats of any state party in the country last year, losing five seats in the GOP-controlled state House and two U.S. House seats that they had managed to flip two years earlier. Adding to the problems, former President Trump defeated Biden there by 3.3 points, cutting into the Democratic margins in strongholds such as Miami-Dade County.

“Democrats are being far more scrutinizing of Florida and the state of politics there,” one Democratic donor told The Hill. “We’ve suffered from a Charlie Brown syndrome in the state, where the football gets pulled out from under us, so I think we have to look at that with more scrutiny.”

Reid Wilson, The Hill: Virginia races offer an early preview of Democrats’ midterm challenges.

Niall Stanage: The Memo: Attacks on democracy seep down to school boards, election offices.

IN FOCUS/SHARP TAKES
CORONAVIRUS: Anthony Fauci, the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said on Sunday that Pfizer and BioNTech’s COVID-19 booster vaccine is expected to be approved in the next two weeks, with other jabs receiving the green light in the following weeks.

Fauci told CBS’s “Face the Nation” that Moderna’s shot will likely not get approved by the Food and Drug Administration in time for the Sept. 20 target, which the administration has recommended for all fully vaccinated individuals (The Hill).

The continued chatter around booster shots comes as fears from the virus are on the rise. According to a poll released Sunday by The Washington Post and ABC News, 47 percent of adults say they have a high or moderate risk of getting sick from COVID-19, an uptick from 29 percent in June. Forty-five percent of respondents responded that they are not too worried or not at all worried (The Hill).

Bloomberg News: One vaccine makes more antibodies than another. Does it matter?

> Nursing squeeze: The vaccine mandate by the Biden administration is creating headaches for nursing homes, as the already severe staffing crisis is expected to worsen in the coming months.

The administration’s directive, which will officially be outlined later this month, will force all nursing home staffers to be vaccinated, or else the facility will lose federal funding. Although the proposal is light on specifics, the dire situation could become worse, as workers could quit rather than get vaccinated, leaving facilities understaffed. As The Hill’s Nathaniel Weixel reports, health officials are being pressed to broaden the requirement to the entire health sector, but hospitals are pushing back on that possibility.

And finally … Tokyo’s saga with the Olympic Games ended on Saturday as the closing ceremony of the Paralympics took place. The U.S. finished third in the medal count with 104 total (including 37 golds), with China taking the cake and pulling in 207 total medals (96 golds).

As The Associated Press notes, the closing ceremony was titled “Harmonious Cacophony,” with the event involving both able-bodied actors and those with disabilities. Organizers described the closing confab’s theme as a “world inspired by the Paralympics, one where differences shine.”

26.) AMERICAN MINUTE

Labor Day, Railroad Strikes, & Eugene Debs’ Socialist Party of America – American Minute with Bill Federer

founder of the Socialist Party of America – American Minute with Bill Federer  Labor Day  Railroad Strike & Eugene Debs

To appreciate Labor Day, one needs to know the history preceding it.
At the time the United States was founded, most people were farmers or worked in trades, such as:
  • baker,
  • butcher,
  • carpenter,
  • cabinetmaker,
  • upholsterer,
  • tailor,
  • milliner (clothes merchant),
  • cobbler (shoemaker),
  • chandler (candlemaker),
  • cooper (barrelmaker),
  • wheelwright (wheel craftsman).
  • blacksmith,
  • gunsmith,
  • printer, and
  • apothecary.

Then, the Industrial Revolution began in the late 18th century.
Coal was mined in Britain, but mines kept filling up with water.
Scottish inventor James Watt came up with an invention to pump water out of mines – a steam pump.
Steam was soon harnessed in the early 19th century to not just power pumps, but railroad steam engines, steam boats, and textile manufacturing machines.
This led to the creation of factories which could mass produce items inexpensively.

European manufactured products were imported into America.
Soon, Americans built factories.

Originally, there was no Federal Income tax.
The Federal government was financed primarily from:
EXCISE TAXES on items like salt, tobacco, liquor;
and
TARIFF TAXES on imports from European factories.
Tariff taxes made European products more expensive, motivating consumers to buy products manufactured in America.
Most of America’s factories were located in Northern states.
The tariff taxes that helped the Northern states hurt the Southern states, as the South was predominately agricultural and had few factories to protect.

At one point, nearly 90 percent of the Federal budget came from tariff taxes collected at Southern ports.
This fueled animosity between the states leading up to the Civil War.

After the Civil War, the North passed even more tariff taxes which successfully allowed Northern factories to grow enormous.

Manufacturers produced items like clothes, glass, dishes, and farm tools for a fraction of the previous costs.

Machines freed women up from tedious daily tasks, such as hand-weaving thread, hand-sewing cloth, and hand-washing clothes.
Instead of carrying water from a well, pumps and pipes brought water directly into homes.
New ways of making stronger iron and steel led to the building of bridges, skyscrapers, steamboats, and mining machinery.

Railroads began taking people safely and inexpensively across the entire nation, opening up unprecedented mobility and opportunity.

Inventions and advances in manufacturing made more goods available at cheaper prices.
This resulted in Americans experiencing the fastest increase in the standard of living of any people in world history.

Factories had a continual source of workers from the millions of immigrants, who not only got a job, but learned the language and trade skills.
President Grover Cleveland dedicated the Statue of Liberty in 1886 to welcome immigrants.
Immigrants were anxious to assimilate, learn the English language, and swear allegiance to their new country.

“Rags-to-riches” stories became a popular literary genre, where hard work, honesty, and strength through adversity led to success.

In 1867, Horatio Alger began publishing a best-selling series of novels, such as:
  • “Ragged Dick”;
  • “Strong and Steady, Or, Paddle Your Own Canoe”; and
  • “Shifting for Himself: Or Gilbert Greyson’s Fortune.”
These were stories about immigrants, impoverished orphans, or homeless street boys, who rose from humble beginnings to success through honesty, strength through adversity, and the Protestant work ethic.

In 1894, Orison Swett Marden wrote Pushing to the Front, and in 1897 founded SUCCESS magazine, publishing inspirational stories of success in life through common-sense principles and well-rounded virtues.

Immigrants were not a financial burden on the government, as there were no government welfare programs.
Extended family members, churches, and individuals giving charity, provided the welfare net.

No one was forced to work in factories, nevertheless, laborers began to organize for better working conditions.
Some immigrants brought with them from Europe socialist and anarchists ideas and exacerbated labor tensions to further their larger goal of tearing down the capitalist system in order to set up a socialist economy.

Organizing flyers were written in the English and German languages.
In May of 1886, a peaceful protest in Chicago near the McCormick Harvesting Machine Company plant. turned into the Haymarket Riot.
A peaceful protester threw a dynamite bomb at the police.
The blast and subsequent violence resulted in seven police officers and four civilians killed, along with dozens wounded.
To commemorate the incident, they chose May 1st to be an annual International Workers Day.

Another incident was a railroad strike in 1894.
An ideal factory setting was created by George Pullman, who founded the Pullman Railroad Sleeping Car Company just outside of Chicago, Illinois.

Pullman saw that workers needed a place to live, so he built them houses in a safe little village around the factory, with rent deducted from paychecks.
To save them the trouble of traveling to the markets, he set of stores on site.

Workers were paid company “scrip,” similar to food stamps, which were redeemable at the company-owned grocery stores.

It was thought to be a utopian workers’ community.
It worked well for over a decade until something happened.

There was a nationwide economic depression in 1893 and orders for railroad sleeping cars suddenly dropped off.

To keep the company afloat, George Pullman had to make cuts in wages and lay off hundreds of employees, though, for the time being, rent and groceries stayed the same price.

Some immigrants from Europe spread Karl Marx’s idea of critical theory, dividing the nation up into groups and pitting them against each other in a class-struggle.
Employees were distraught, as they had grown completely dependent on the company.
Some employees walked off their jobs, demanding higher pay and lower rents, being unaware that the reason for the cuts was that the company needed to stay in business during the national economic crash.

A leader of the strikes was Eugene V. Debs. A high school drop out, Debs got a job cleaning grease from freight engines.
He was promoted to locomotive fireman and rose in the Brotherhood of Locomotive Fireman. He briefly served as a Terre Haute city clerk and one-term Indiana state representative.
When the nation experienced the financial crisis, Debs agitated and organized a strike of railroad workers in 1894.
Soon, railroad workers across the nation boycotted trains carrying Pullman cars.

There was rioting, pillaging, and burning of railroad cars, destroying an estimated $80 million worth of property in 27 states.
A New York Times editorial, July 9, 1894, called Debs “a lawbreaker at large, an enemy of the human race.”
“Debs’ Rebellion” became a national issue when it interrupted the trains delivering mail.

President Grover Cleveland declared the strike a federal crime and deployed 12,000 U.S. Army troops to break up the strike.

More violence erupted, and two men were killed.

Debs was arrested for mail obstruction and put in prison for six months, where he “ravenously” read Karl Marx’s Das Kapital.

President Grover Cleveland thought it might improve his chances of getting re-elected in 1894 if he appeased workers with a national “LABOR DAY.”

He intentionally did not chose May 1st as it was the anniversary of the bloody Chicago’s Haymarket Riot and the “International Workers Day.”
Instead, Grover Cleveland chose the FIRST MONDAY in SEPTEMBER.

Strike-organizer Eugene Debs went to prison, and Grover Cleveland lost the election.

Socialist progressive demands to redistribute wealth led to the passage of:
  • the corporate income tax, 1894;
  • the personal income tax, 1914; and
  • the inheritance estate tax, 1916.

Eugene Debs and the rioters were defended by the attorney Clarence Darrow.
Darrow later defended evolution in the Scope’s Monkey Trial.

After six months in prison, Eugene Debs was released and founded:
  • the Social Democracy of America (1897),
  • the Social Democratic Party of America (1898) and
  • the Socialist Party of America (1901).
Debs ran five time for U.S. President on Socialist Party of America ticket. As he won zero electoral votes, he opposed to the electoral process.

When World War I started, Eugene Debs urged resistance to the draft.

One of those who followed Debs’ call to be a draft-dodger was Roger Baldwin, who later founded the A.C.L.U. to help defend those who were accused of being a communist agitators.
Roger Baldwin wrote:
“I am for socialism … I seek social ownership of property, the abolition of the propertied class, and sole control of those who produce wealth. Communism is the goal.”

In 1918, Debs was charged with ten counts of sedition and sentenced to ten years in prison.

In protest of his sentence, unionists, anarchists, socialists, and communists marched in support of Debs in a May Day parade in Cleveland, Ohio.
The peaceful parade broke out into Antifa-style violence — the May Day Riots of 1919.

When Debs’ attorney asked for a Presidential pardon, Woodrow Wilson wrote “denied” across the paperwork, and stated:
“While the flower of American youth was pouring out its blood to vindicate the cause of civilization, this man, Debs, stood behind the lines sniping, attacking, and denouncing them …
This man was a traitor to his country and he will never be pardoned during my administration.”
The next President, Warren G. Harding, also did not pardon Debs, and the White House released the statement:
“There is no question of his guilt … He is … a dangerous man calculated to mislead the unthinking and affording excuse for those with criminal intent.”

In 1979, Bernie Sanders produced a documentary praising Eugene Debs. He hung a portrait of Debs in the City Hall of Burlington, Vermont, and dedicated a plaque to him in his Congressional office.

After Vladimir Lenin organized the Bolshevik Revolution overthrowing Russia’s government, he formed the Communist International in 1919.
This persuaded some members of Eugene Debs’ Socialist Party of America to break off and form the Communist Party USA.
The Communist Party USA ran candidates for U.S. President every year from 1920 till they decided to support Democrat President Franklin D. Roosevelt during World War II, as Roosevelt had allied himself with the U.S.S.R.’s Josef Stalin.

Chicago’s statue dedicated to the police officers who were killed in the 1886 Haymarket Riot was blown up on October 6, 1969, by Bill Ayers and Eric Mann’s militant group “Weatherman Underground” during their Days of Rage.

The Haymarket statue was rebuilt, only to be blown up again by the Weatherman Underground on October 6, 1970.
Weatherman member Bill Ayers later helped launch the political career of a young Illinois State Senator Barack Obama.
Bill Ayers stated:
“I am a radical, leftist, small ‘c’ communist … Maybe I’m the last communist who is willing to admit it … The ethics of communism still appeal tome. I don’t like Lenin as much as the early Marx.”
Weatherman member Eric Mann helped train Patrisse Cullors, one of the founders of Black Lives Matters.
Cullors stated in 2015:
“Myself and Alicia in particular are trained organizers … We are trained Marxists. We are super-versed on, sort of, ideological theories.”

In America, laborers worked hard for wages with which they could buy trucks, houses, cars, boats, guns, and other personal possessions.
They could also be moved upon to give of their possessions to those in need, which is called charity.

Reagan stated in 1988:

“I believe God did give mankind unlimited gifts to invent, produce and create.”

Booker T. Washington founded the National Negro Business League. He stated:
“Anyone can seek a job, but it requires a person of rare ability to create a job … What we should do in our schools is to turn out fewer job seekers and more job creators.”

In socialist countries, laborers were forced to work hard, but could own no possessions. The government took them all away.
People with no possessions have nothing with which to be charitable.
Socialists believe that when the government finally finishes taking away everyone’s possessions, then the world will arrive at a imagined ideal utopia called communism.
The term “communism” comes from the Latin word “communis,” meaning everything held in common.
There will be no private ownership of anything. There will be no privacy. People will not even have control over their own children.
The government will control everything, on both production side and consumption side.
In 1971, John Lennon and his second wife, Yoko Ono, co-wrote the song “Imagine,” with socialist-themed lyrics: “Imagine no possessions … And no religion too.”

The term “socialism” was coined by French political philosopher Henry de Saint-Simon (1760–1825) as the opposite of the “individual.”
Use of the term socialism was popularized by mid-to-late 1800s by European theorists, such as Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, Leon Trotsky, and Antonio Gramsci, where power is taken away from individuals and concentrated into the hands of the state.

Gramsci, who founded the Italian Communist Party, wrote in his Prison Notebooks, 1929-1935:
“Any country grounded in Judaeo-Christian values can’t be overthrown until those roots are cut … Socialism is precisely the religion that must overwhelm Christianity … In the new order, Socialism will triumph by first capturing the culture via infiltration of schools, universities, churches, and the media by transforming the consciousness of society.”

During Russia’s Bolshevik Revolution of 1917, “socialism” became identified as a distinct transition phase between capitalism and communism.

The most opportune time to transition is in crises.
Marx and Friedrich Engels explained (Marx and Engels Collected Works, Vol. 10, p. 318):
“Conspirators by no means confine themselves to organizing the revolutionary proletariat (working class). Their business consists in … spurring it in to artificial crises …
For them the only condition required for the revolution is a sufficient organization of their own conspiracy. They are the alchemists of the revolution.”

The term “capitalism” is the where individuals, with their own money, or capital, could invest and have a business providing goods or services – the production side.
Individuals could then earn a profit which they could decide how to spend – the consumption side.

Karl Marx wrote in The Critique of the Gotha Programme, Part IV:
“Between capitalist and communist society there lies the period of the revolutionary transformation.”
Lenin considered socialism as the transition phase from capitalism to communism, stating:
“The goal of socialism is communism.”
Karl Marx explained:
“The theory of the communists may be summed up in the single sentence: Abolition of private property.”

Author Ayn Rand wrote:
“There is no difference between communism and socialism, except in the means of achieving the same ultimate end:
communism proposes to enslave men by force; socialism – by vote.
It is merely the difference between murder and suicide.”

Unions did help to bring about:
  • the 8-hour work day,
  • a 40-hour work week,
  • minimum wages,
  • safer working conditions, and
  • more benefits for workers.
Henry Ford’s Motor Company was one of the first to implement these benefits.

A story circulated that Henry Ford met a Yemeni sailor at port and told him about auto factory jobs that paid five dollars a day.
The sailor spread the word, leading to chain migration from Yemen and other parts of the Middle East.

Whether Ford actually did this, perhaps to counter growing union strength, is unverified, but it is a fact that large numbers of Middle Eastern Muslims began immigrating to Dearborn, Michigan, and worked in the auto industry.
Unions were anti-immigrant, as cheaper labor of immigrants undercut their wages.

As unions grew in size, another situation developed, where top leadership tended to hold values different than rank-and-file union workers.
Many members supported the Second Amendment, traditional marriage, biological definitions of sex, and protection of the unborn, yet some in union leadership funneled union dues to support candidates who advocated opposing views.

One of the unanticipated consequences of workers’ benefits improving was the increase cost of doing business.
Companies, in order to stay competitive in the increasingly global marketplace, had to find ways to lower costs, which meant replacing jobs with “automation” and “out-sourcing.”

After World War II, America helped rebuild Germany and Japan with new factories.

“0” align=”right”>

These overseas factories, with their cheaper labor costs and newer machinery, produced items for less and took a larger part of the global market.
They hired lobbyists to push for lowering tariffs so they could bring less expensive products in, gaining a competitive advantage over American factories.

Issues that increased the cost of doing business in America included:
  • Higher wages;
  • Increased taxes;
  • Expensive lawsuits;
  • Burdensome regulations;
  • Environmental restrictions;
  • Crony capitalism, globalist capitalism, vulture capitalism, and big tech monopolies, where career politicians provide subsidies, contracts, and relaxed regulations for companies supporting their political agendas and reelection campaigns; but companies not supporting them are put at a disadvantage, some being faced with the choice of either going out of business or going out of the country.

As American-made products became more expensive in comparison to foreign-made products, consumers bought fewer of them, resulting in American factories needing fewer workers.

“Squeeze the sponge and the water goes out” – as manufacturing costs in America rose, manufacturers moved with their jobs to other countries.
To personalize this, if you needed gas for your car, and the gas station on your side of the street sold it at $4.50 a gallon, but the station on the other side of the street sold it for just $1.99 a gallon, would you cross the street?
Just as water seeks its own level, individuals and businesses are motivated to save money.

Bringing jobs back to America is as simple as making it more profitable for factories to be located here than there. But coalescing the political will in Congress is an uphill battle.

Another by-product of companies leaving the country was their loss of patriotism, creating what became termed “globalists.”
Globalists are international big businesses whose patriotism is to their profits.

Globalists are happy to work with socialist governments as a means secure monopolies and guarantee profits.

Capitalism effectively split in two, with individual capitalism being patriotic, supporting the country that gave opportunities for advancement;
and globalist capitalism which squelches competition by supporting big government socialist politicians who can return the favor with insider dealing.

Politicians receiving money from globalists are pressured to enact discretionary regulations and burdensome COVID responses which put smaller competitors out of business.

Additionally, socialist political strategies include intentionally raising unemployment rates so more unemployed workers will sign up for welfare benefits.
Once unemployed workers become dependent on government benefits and entitlements, they are inclined to vote for the candidates who promise to continue them.
Tragically, for some political strategists, increased unemployment means an increased voter base.

If entitlements are threatened, some are even inclined to be organized into revolutionaries.
Socialist thinker Friedrich Engels wrote (London: W.O. Henderson, The Life of Friedrich Engels, 1976; Outlines of a Critique of Political Economy, 1844):
“Every fresh slump must ruin more small capitalists and increase the workers who live only by their labor.
This will increase the number of the unemployed and this is the main problem that worries economists.
In the end commercial crises will lead to a social revolution far beyond the comprehension of the economists with their scholastic wisdom.”

Soviet leader Nikita Khrushschev reportedly told Ezra Taft Benson, Eisenhower’s Secretary of Agriculture, in 1959:
“We won’t have to fight you; We’ll so weaken your economy, until you fall like overripe fruit into our hands.”

Among American workers, union membership since 1950 has declined from 50 percent to currently less than 12 percent.

Instead of addressing the need to attract manufacturers, with their jobs, back to America, many unions have focused their efforts to increase membership by recruiting from other occupations, such as government, education, medical professionals, sports, service industry, and retail.

Warning American workers of the hidden danger of “social justice” movements, Alexander Solzhenitsyn, who had spent 11 years in Union of Soviet Socialist Republics labor camps, stated, June 30, 1975:
“I … call upon America to be more careful with its trust …
Prevent those … who are attempting to establish even finer … legal shades of equality — because of their distorted outlook … short-sightedness and … self-interest – from falsely using the struggle for peace and for social justice to lead you down a false road …

… They are trying to weaken you; they are trying to disarm your strong and magnificent country in the face of this fearful threat …
I call upon you: ordinary working men of America … do not let yourselves become weak.”
A spiritual encouragement is found in First Corinthians 15:58: “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”

The Morning Briefing: Team Biden Can’t Wish Away the Afghanistan Fiasco

AP Photo/Susan Walsh

Top O’ the Briefing

Happy Labor Day Monday, dear Kruiser Morning Briefing friends. I’m breeding egrets just to confuse the neighbors.

While the Briefing doesn’t get these Monday holidays off, we do make things a little more pithy.

We will tidy up a couple of hot takes of mine and then we can all be off to our federal holiday indulgences. I’m still unsure about the wearing white rule. Is that still OK today and verboten tomorrow or is this toga I’m wearing already a faux pas?

It is more than obvious that our alleged president and his puppet masters would love nothing more than to have the American public get hit with some sort of collective amnesia that would make us forget the last several weeks. Heck, I wouldn’t mind not remembering Biden’s body count and the unraveling of our international reputation. Sadly, the consequences of our anti-American president’s misdeeds aren’t that easy to send down the memory hole, despite the best efforts of his handlers and the media to usher them there.

Biden’s chief of staff, Ron Klain, hit CNN on Sunday to engage in some creative storytelling, which A.J. Kaufman wrote about. While being peppered with actual journalism type questions from Dana Bash, Klain made sure he got to the talking point all of team Biden has been repeating and not one functioning American adult cares about:

He then returned to his talking points, boasting that “we launched a historic airlift that brought 124,000 people out of Afghanistan, American citizens, legal permanent residents of this country, residents of other countries, and a lot of Afghan nationals. And we are going to get those people to safety. We’re ultimately going to resettle them.”

Nobody is buying the administration’s “historic success” story and it’s beyond pathetic that they’re still trying to sell that stinker to a public that’s worried about the Americans who are still stuck in Afghanistan.

While the president’s puppeteers are telling us everything is fine, we’re going to be getting reminders from both near and afar that there is nothing good about the mess they’ve made.

Rick wrote over the weekend:

According to a story in Politico, Veterans Administration mental health hotlines lit up with thousands of veterans who were emotionally affected by Joe Biden’s disaster.

Veterans Affairs chief of staff Tanya Bradsher sent out an email that day to her senior staff. “My veteran network is reeling and I am sure yours are as well,” Bradsher wrote. “Can we highlight in our comms channels that VA has resources available? I am thinking of the vet centers in particular but open to all resources. This is devastating to so many.”

Similar reports were pouring in from veterans centers and groups across the country. Perhaps it was the way that it ended that affected so many so deeply.

Heckuva job, Joey.

These distraught veterans apparently haven’t heard the roaring success story version that the commander in chief is sharing with everyone.

Bryan had another story about what we’re looking at in Afghanistan’s future:

Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, gave an exclusive interview to Fox News’s Jennifer Griffin. He told Griffin that he expects a “resurgence” in terrorism following the United States’ ignominious retreat from Afghanistan.

Milley went on to say that that resurgence involves a big comeback by al-Qaeda. So much for Biden’s big brag about our Afghanistan mission being a success because we got rid of them.

There is no telling how long Biden and his people will continue to camp out in their alt-reality. They do seem immune to any intrusions by the real world thus far. It’s going to keep crashing down on them even though they keep trying to fend it off with the ad nauseam repetition of a useless talking point.

And they’ll probably screw things up even worse once it does.

Everything Isn’t Awful

30.) WHITE HOUSE DOSSIER

Cut to the News
Cut through the clutter to today’s top news
September 6, 2021
Good morning Rick
Welcome to today’s top news.
Leading the News . . .
The Real Authoritarians Threatening America . . . Democrats and the media continue to push the narrative that former President Donald Trump is a right-wing authoritarian who’s dragging America down into a dark pit of tyranny and oppression, even with him out of office. Yet, Trump champions free-market enterprise and individual liberty — in other words, freedom, the opposite of authoritarianism. In reality, the true authoritarian threat to America comes from the left. The mainstream media for years, has slanted its coverage in favor of Democrats and left-wing positions. The journalists now view themselves as the “guardians of democracy,” believing that their job is to advocate a cause, not to report the news.  The media has published a torrent of misleading if not outright false stories about Republicans and conservatives, deceiving the public in order to paint the right as evil. This is a classic authoritarian tactic: pushing misinformation to demonize one’s political opponents.
Corporations are now reflecting the whims of the woke mob, adopting causes such as Black Lives Matter and the left’s push to federalize elections. Corporate executives are imposing a far-left ideology not because they believe in critical race theory or universal mail-in voting, but because they’re cowardly and succumbing to the pressure and bullying from the mob. The leftists are overtaking another key institution. This leftist onslaught is compounded by Big Tech, which is clearly waging a war to silence conservatives and snuff out dissent. Indeed, the oligarchs running the likes of Google, Twitter, and Facebook claim they’re merely targeting misinformation, but this has consistently manifested as a political witch hunt against one side. Gingrich360

A Dishonest Afghanistan Accounting: Biden spins a tragedy for U.S. interests into an antiwar victory . . . President Biden’s defiant, accusatory defense on Tuesday of his Afghanistan withdrawal and its execution was so dishonest, and so lacking in self-reflection or accountability, that it was unworthy of the sacrifices Americans have made in that conflict. The charitable interpretation is that this is what Mr. Biden really believes about Afghanistan in particular, war in general, and how to defend the U.S. The uncharitable view is that he and his advisers have decided that the only way out of this debacle is to lie about it, blame everyone else, and claim that defeat is really a victory. Neither one is reassuring about Mr. Biden’s character, his judgment, or—most ominously—the long three-and-a-half years left in his Presidency. Editorial. Wall Street Journal
Biden orders declassification review of documents related to FBI’s 9/11 investigations . . . President Joe Biden signed an executive order Friday ordering the Justice Department and other federal agencies to pursue a declassification review of documents related to the FBI’s investigations of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The order, which comes just days ahead of the 20th anniversary of the 2001 attack that claimed the lives of nearly 3,000 people, requires Attorney General Merrick Garland to release declassified documents to the public throughout the next six months. The order, which acknowledges some information might merit continued protection in the interest of national security, asks agencies to consider “whether the public interest in disclosure of the information outweighs the damage to the national security that might reasonably be expected from disclosure,” according to a readout of the order obtained by the Washington Examiner.

‘Turning Into A Hostage Situation’: Texas Rep Says Taliban Is Holding Americans At An Afghanistan Airport . . . The Taliban is preventing a plane carrying Americans from taking off from Mazar-i-Sharif International Airport in Northern Afghanistan, Republican Texas Rep. Michael McCaul said Sunday. “We had six airplanes at Mazar-i-Sharif airport. Six airplanes with American citizens on them as I speak, also with these interpreters, and the Taliban is holding them hostage for demands right now,” McCaul told Fox News’ Chris Wallace.
McCaul added that “zero” Americans have been able to leave the country since U.S. military forces left on Aug. 30. CBS News’ Eena Ruffini also reported Sunday morning that the State Department had begun notifying members of Congress that Taliban approval was preventing chartered planes from taking off from Mazar-i-Sharif for Doha, Qatar. Daily Caller
As Taliban Grounds Planes Out of Afghanistan, Biden Administration Says There’s Little It Can Do . . . The State Department says there is little it can do to help Americans and at-risk Afghans whose planes are reportedly grounded at an airport as the Taliban prevents them from leaving the country. At least six chartered planes are attempting to evacuate these Americans and others from Mazar-i-Sharif International Airport, but the Taliban is reportedly preventing them from taking off. Since it evacuated U.S. military forces and diplomatic personnel from the war-torn country, the Biden administration has not had the resources necessary to ensure that flights chartered by nonprofit groups and others can depart Afghanistan. Washington Free Beacon
Biden Working to Secure Border … in Tajikistan . . . The Biden administration is working with the government of Tajikistan to help it better secure its border with its neighbor to the south, the newly chaotic Afghanistan. As the U.S. ambassador to Tajikistan, John Pommersheim, explained, “The United States and Tajikistan enjoy strong security cooperation, and this border detachment project is just another example of our shared commitment to the security and sovereignty of Tajikistan and Central Asia.” The U.S. government has spent over $300 million helping Tajikistan with security since 2002. Tajikistan is still a member of Russia’s post-Soviet security bloc. Meanwhile, back in the U.S., Joe Biden’s border crisis continues apace. Biden’s unsecured southern border has resulted in more than 65,000 unaccompanied minors caught illegally crossing into the U.S. since he took office (out of well over a million total migrants).
Border Patrol scrambles to fill gap in wall left by Biden administration . . .  When President Biden took office in January, his administration ordered an immediate halt on the construction of a 30-foot high border fence, leaving a gaping hole at one of the most vulnerable stretches of the US-Mexican border. The 20-foot gap in the frontier wall at Border Monument Three — one of the 276 original markers erected after the Mexican-American War in 1848 — was allowing thousands of smugglers and migrants to cross into the US with relative ease. “The contractors just stopped,” said Richard Barragan, a Border Patrol agent in the El Paso Sector, pointing to the broken wall and a brace leftover by federal contractors still hanging from the iron fence when they hastily abandoned construction in January. Desperate to stem the migrant flow at the remote, mountainous site at the confluence of the Texas, Mexico and New Mexico border, Border Patrol agents took it upon themselves to plug the hole — with old truck tires and pieces of stray construction materials that were left behind by the federal contractors. New York Post

Taliban Claim to Have Conquered Last Pocket of Resistance in Afghanistan . . . The Taliban claimed Monday to have overcome the last pocket of resistance in Afghanistan, releasing images they said showed the conquest of the provincial capital of Panjshir, a region that has held out against the group’s takeover of the country. The Taliban, who took control of most of the country this summer, culminating with the capital city of Kabul on Aug. 15, made the declaration as they prepare to announce a new government. On Monday, pro-Taliban social-media accounts posted a video of what they said were their fighters—whom they call mujahedeen or holy warriors—raising the group’s white flag over the governor’s house in the provincial capital of Panjshir. Other pictures and videos showing their presence there were also published. Wall Street Journal
China Forms ‘New Axis of Collaborators’ With Pakistan and Taliban . . . The communist regime in China has created a new alliance to challenge the United States and Western democracy, according to Johnnie Moore, a former U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) commissioner. “They’re creating a new axis of collaborators against the Western democratic order,” Moore said, referring to the alliance of China, Pakistan, and the Taliban, in a recent interview with The Epoch Times’ “American Thought Leaders” program. He called the alliance a “geopolitical catastrophe.” China has openly backed the Taliban in recent months. Epoch Times

Why a Covid-19 Vaccine for Children Is Taking So Long . . .  The countdown started as soon as researchers removed the Covid-19 vaccine vials from the freezer at Senders Pediatrics. They had just two hours once the vials thawed to prepare the shots and give them to young children in the clinical trial. A lot had to go right first. The containers holding the shot from Pfizer and BioNTech had to travel across town to a pharmacy without letting the vaccine become too warm. Pharmacists working in a sterile room, free of contamination, needed to assemble the shots in small doses safe enough for children. Finally, the vaccines had to be driven back to Senders for injection in the children as young as six months. A mistake could jeopardize study results, render the vaccine ineffective or delay the trial. “We do studies in babies all of the time, and we’ve never had to do something with this many steps,” said Shelly Senders, the pediatrician whose practice 10 miles outside Cleveland serves as one of the 162 sites world-wide that parents are counting on to test Covid-19 shots in children. Wall Street Journal

On Labor Day 2021, the end of enhanced unemployment benefits bring hope to US small businesses . . . This Labor Day, it’s small businesses that are celebrating. That’s because this Labor Day coincides with the end of enhanced federal unemployment benefits that were paying people not to work. These payouts have contributed to a record labor shortage that prevents small businesses from bringing the economy back. Oxford Economics estimates that roughly 11.2 million Americans will lose some form of federal unemployment benefits this week. This will help fill the 10.1 million available jobs nationwide.  There are still 5.3 million fewer people working than before the pandemic. On Thursday, the Labor Department announced its weekly jobless claims numbers, which suggest that overly generous unemployment benefits are to blame for this labor market slack. They show that about 60 percent more Americans filed continued unemployment claims in late August than in early 2020. Fox Business
Four-day workweek gains traction despite pushback . . . The long Labor Day weekend could become standard if the four-day workweek catches on. Many U.S. companies are experimenting with a shortened workweek because of pandemic-related concerns, and legislation calling for a 32-hour workweek has been introduced in Congress. August job postings mentioning four-day workweeks climbed about 75% — 1,162 per 1 million compared with 657 per 1 million — from the same month in 2016, according to data from employment website Indeed. The number of jobs with four-day workweeks posted last month was 16% higher than the 1,003 jobs per 1 million a year earlier. In late July, Rep. Mark Takano, California Democrat, introduced legislation that would reduce the standard workweek from 40 hours to 32 hours and allow nonexempt employees to clock in overtime for any hours they work beyond that limit. Washington Times
US workers need better skills and more power . . .  US workers have suffered stagnant earnings and great inequality for several decades. Since 1979, median U.S. worker wages have risen only 10-20 percent, while profits have grown dramatically. Inequality between workers has also risen, especially between high school and college-educated workers. Pay for corporate execs or financial managers has skyrocketed. When trying to explain these outcomes, economists are of two minds.
One group stresses competitive market forces — like technical change and globalization — and the fact that college-educated workers are more likely to work with new technology or imports rather than be replaced by them. Indeed, both technology and international trade are responsible for the disappearance of millions of good-paying jobs, in manufacturing and other sectors, for those with high school or less education. As “artificial intelligence” performs a widening range of tasks traditionally done by workers, they will need “lifelong learning” to gain new skills and perform new tasks that the machines still can’t do.
But another group of economists stresses institutional changes, like lower federal minimum wages and reduced power of unions. They also emphasize the growing power of employers in labor markets — as industries become less competitive, firms push noncompete clauses, and employers outsource labor functions to other companies. The Hill
Here’s how to squeeze an extra 24% out of Social Security . . . The great thing about Social Security is that it’s guaranteed to pay you a monthly benefit for life. And the higher that benefit, the more financial freedom you’ll enjoy in retirement. Many seniors are routinely disappointed when they find that their benefits can’t cover all of their bills. To be fair, Social Security was never designed to replace workers’ paychecks in full. But a lot of people run into trouble when they realize what limited buying power their benefits give them. It’s for this reason that it pays to do whatever you can to eke more money out of Social Security. And one simple move on your part could result in a benefit that’s 24% higher — for life. Fox Business
UN Will Continue Sending Aid to Afghans, Taliban Says After Meeting . . . The United Nations has promised continued “humanitarian assistance” to Afghanistan after meeting with the Taliban, a spokesperson for the terrorist group said on Sunday.
“The U.N. delegation promised continuation of humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people, saying he would call for further assistance to Afghanistan during the coming meeting of donor countries,” Taliban spokesman Suhail Shaheen said on Twitter following a meeting with the U.N. Under-Secretary-General for humanitarian affairs. “The IEA [Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan] delegation thanked the U.N. delegation, assuring them of cooperation and provision of needed facilities,” he added. Epoch Times

Labor Day: No justice for whistleblowers . . .
Another Labor Day. Another day when there is no justice for thousands of whistleblowers. Over the past four years, numerous bills have been languishing in Congress designed to close loopholes and end delays faced by whistleblowers who report frauds or life-threatening safety violations. Despite numerous bipartisan bills being introduced, Congress has yet to act on any major whistleblower fix. Cynicism towards whistleblowers is wide spread in the government bureaucracy, including Congress. Thousands of federal employees cannot obtain any justice, literally because there are no officials able to rule on their cases. President Biden has now nominated all three members, but the Homeland Security Committee (which must initially approve the nominations) has yet to schedule a hearing. Consequently, thousands of federal employee whistleblowers continue to be denied their rights. The Hill
Recommend you read the entire article. It will explain, in part, why the government bureaucracy is impossible to fix. It’s because the whistleblower process in the federal government is practically non-existent. Most government workers keep silent even when they witness fraud, abuse, and incompetence. Those who speak up typically lose their jobs because the corrupt bureaucrats  have weaponized every legitimate federal process — security clearance, whistleblower protections, you name it — to target and neutralize their opponents, in order to preserve their lifetime employment, rather than to make the government function efficiently.
One attorney told me this, when the intelligence bureaucracy retaliated at me for challenging the “experts’ ” incompetent approach to dealing with the Russian threat. “The government knows that it has unlimited funds (courtesy of US taxpayer) and that you do not. The government apparatchiks drag on administrative or legal cases, until an employee runs out of money. The feds believe they can do whatever they want and would likely get away with it. Remember, after it has been exposed that the upper echelons of the Intelligence Community spread Russian-fed disinformation about the “Russia-Trump collusion,” through a false “intelligence assessment” (ICA) no one lost their jobs. I’ve written about this in my book.

Sky News Boss Lambasts YouTube for Suspension, ‘Opaque’ Guidelines . . . Claims that Sky News Australia is spreading COVID-19 misinformation are “frankly ridiculous,” according to CEO Paul Whittaker, who issued a stinging criticism of video-sharing giant YouTube, at a parliamentary inquiry on Monday.
Fronting the Standing Committee on Environment and Communications, Whittaker questioned why the Google-owned tech giant could be an arbiter of content. “There is no expectation that our viewers agree with every opinion expressed by every host, guest, or panellist,” he said. “But it now appears commonplace to discredit any debate on contentious issues as ‘misinformation’.” “YouTube’s actions make clear that it is not a neutral platform, but a publisher selectively broadcasting content and censoring certain views, while allowing videos that are patently false, misogynistic, and racist to proliferate,” Whittaker said. Epoch Times

Deposed Afghan Vice-President Amrullah Saleh, now the leader of the resistance in Panjshir valley, said that the rebel forces had “held the ground.””

Hello

Here’s what you need to know.

600,000 still lack power after Hurricane Ida, shares are lifted by the prospect of lower rates for longer, and farcical scenes at a South American soccer game

The Taliban claimed victory over opposition forces in the Panjshir valley northeast of Kabul, declaring that it completed the Islamist group’s takeover of Afghanistan and promising to announce a new government soon. About 1,000 people, including Americans, have been stuck in Afghanistan for days awaiting clearance for their charter flights to leave, an organizer told Reuters.

Soldiers who ousted Guinean President Alpha Conde summoned his ministers and top government officials to a meeting, a day after a coup which drew international condemnation. We look back at Conde’s steady slide from grace.

Six Palestinian militants broke out of a high-security Israeli prison in what Prime Minister Naftali Bennett called a grave incident. Israeli police and the military started a search after the escape from Gilboa prison in northern Israel.

Sydney, the epicentre of Australia’s biggest coronavirus outbreak, is expected to see daily infections peak next week, authorities said, as they look to speed up immunizations before easing lockdown rules.

A World Cup soccer qualifier between Argentina and Brazil was suspended amid farcical scenes after Brazilian health authorities accused a number of Premier League players of violating the country’s COVID-19 quarantine rules.

Hurricane Ida’s death toll continued to rise, with many in the U.S. Northeast holding out hope for people missing in the floodwaters, while nearly 600,000 customers in Louisiana still lacked power a week after the storm made landfall. A private dive team will try to locate the source of a suspected oil spill spotted in the Bay Marchand area of the Gulf of Mexico after Ida.

The U.S. Senate’s filibuster rule likely imperils a bill intended to protect abortion rights that Democrats are readying following the Supreme Court’s decision not to block a strict new Texas ban, a leading Democratic senator said. Amy Klobuchar told CNN’s ‘State of the Union’ that some Senate Republicans support abortion rights but not enough to overcome the chamber’s rule requiring 60 of its 100 members to agree on most legislation.

A House of Representatives Republican said his party does not deserve to win majorities in congressional elections next year if it pushes lies and conspiracy theories, saying that it “desperately needs to tell the truth.” Adam Kinzinger also blasted House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy’s warning to private companies not to cooperate with a House committee investigating the deadly January 6 attack on the Capitol as “pretty scary.”

A self-described survivalist in body armor shot and killed four people, including a woman and her 3-month-old baby boy in her arms, before surrendering to police in central Florida.

Global shares posted their longest winning streak in three months, aided by the chance of low interest rates for longer in the United States and talk of more stimulus in Japan and China, while oil slid as the Saudis cut prices for Asian customers. We take a look at events that may shake markets this month.

German industrial orders unexpectedly surged in July, official figures showed, hitting a post-reunification high and pointing to a solid start to the second half in the engine room of Europe’s largest economy.

Goldman Sachs plans to list the assets of Petershill Partners, cashing in on a private equity boom with a deal which could value the investment vehicle at more than $5 billion.

The city of Taylor, Texas – one of two locations in the state under consideration by Samsung Electronics for a $17 billion chip plant – plans to offer extensive property tax breaks if it is chosen by the South Korean tech giant.

Leading shipping associations have proposed creating a global levy on carbon emissions from ships to help speed up the industry’s efforts to go greener. With about 90% of world trade transported by sea, global shipping accounts for nearly 3% of the world’s CO2 emissions.

Carl Cannon’s Morning Note

Texas Gamble; Bucking Truman’s Dictum; Resilient Cal
By Carl M. Cannon on Sep 06, 2021 09:06 am
Good morning, it’s Monday, Sept. 6, 2021. Today is Labor Day, and although it seems incongruous that a day celebrating work is a holiday, this year it’s doubly paradoxical: Some 7 million out-of-work Americans are losing their jobless pay today, as the federal programs designed to get the country through the COVID lockdowns are expiring. It may be time for that, at least insofar as the economy is concerned, since employers are having difficulty filling vacant jobs. But the coronavirus pandemic is hardly over.Today I’m reprising a historical homily I’ve written previously. Twenty-six years ago today, Baltimore Orioles star Cal Ripken played in his 2,131st consecutive major league game, surpassing a record set by Lou Gehrig that was once considered unassailable.

First, I’d point you to our front page, which aggregates, as it does each day, columns and stories spanning the political spectrum. Today’s edition includes Juan Williams on the resilience of organized labor (The Hill); Nathan Gonzales on Joe Biden’s standing with the American people (Roll Call); and Maria Reppas on being a “limousine liberal” who sends her kinds to private school (USA Today). We also offer a complement of original material from RCP reporters and contributors, including the following:

* * *

Texas’ Abortion Gambit Is Politically Insane. Bill Scher argues that Republicans could see the new law undermine their chances of retaking Congress in 2022.

The Buck Stops With Somebody. In the aftermath of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, I consider how well, or poorly, Joe Biden has followed Harry Truman’s dictum about accountability.

Lessons From 20 Years of War Against Jihadism. Peter Berkowitz’s take is here.

Honor Labor Leaders Who Won Citizenship for Puerto Ricans. George Laws Garcia urges passage of the Puerto Rico Statehood Admissions Act as a fitting salute to the men who garnered basic rights for residents of the island more than a century ago.

Nevada Leans Into “Public Option” Coercion. At RealClearPolicy, James Capretta predicts that hospitals and physicians will push back against forced price controls enacted by the state.

Chinese Amino Acids a Threat to U.S. Food Supply. Also at RCPolicy, Ike Bannon warns that the CCP could wield the export of amino acids — used as a supplement in feed for livestock — as a strategic weapon, as it has done with other critical materials.

Why Biden Asked OPEC to Increase Its Production. At RealClearEnergy, Steve Milloy asserts that that the initiative isn’t aimed at reducing prices.

The Case for Student-First Curricula. At RealClearEducation, Kevin Chavous advocates providing students with the independence to infuse their personal interests and passions into their lesson plans.

Cal Ripken’s ironman feat came one season after the World Series had been canceled due to a confluence of factors that included the owners’ greed, the commissioner’s cowardice, and the players’ obliviousness to their own sport’s historical traditions. The following season, as a counterweight the massive ill-will this had caused, the baseball gods offered fans two remedies: The beauty of the game itself and the unsurpassed work ethic of Calvin Edwin Ripken Jr.

In the fifth inning of the Sept. 6, 1995, Orioles’ game against the visiting California Angels — when the game became official — Ripken took a victory lap around the stadium while receiving a 22-minute standing ovation. That night, Cal also went 2 for 4, including a home run, while leading the hometown team to a win. Among those in attendance at sold-out Camden Yards were President Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore, both of whom visited the Orioles’ clubhouse before the game. I was there, too, as was an accomplished amateur photographer named Tipper Gore. (I covered the White House for the Baltimore Sun then and had drawn “pool duty” that night, so Tipper, God bless her heart, took a picture of me and Cal standing side-by-side on his big occasion.)

There was a larger picture in play that night, and Bill Clinton was astute enough to see it. He spoke several times about the important symbolic nature of the occasion as he took to using baseball as a metaphor for all that was good in America.

Baseball binds Americans of different regions, races, and generations, Clinton observed, and “teaches us to play as hard as we can and still be friends when the game is over, to respect our differences, and to be able to lose with dignity as well as win with joy.”

As for Ripken’s record, Clinton would invoke this lesson many times:

“While baseball provides role models, it also helps us recognize these American values in everyday life,” said the 42nd U.S. president. “I saw a story about … a bus driver who hadn’t missed a day’s work in 18 years. Had it not been for Cal Ripken, we would never have had the opportunity to meet this wonderful man or to appreciate the hard work that he and millions and millions of other Americans do every day just by showing up for work.”

Edward C. Harwood fought for sound money when few Americans seemed to care. He was the original gold standard man before that became cool. Now he is honored in this beautiful sewn silk bow tie in the richest possible color and greatest detail. The tie is adjustable to all sizes. Sporting this, others might miss that you are secretly supporting the revolution for freedom and sound money, but you will know, and that is what matters.
The Nixon shock created a clear dividing line in American monetary history. Prior to August 15, 1971, the U.S. dollar had been tied to gold in one way or another since the nation’s founding.
Fifty years after the Nixon shock, it is difficult for many to imagine a dollar connected to gold. Most Americans have never used a gold-backed dollar. They do not understand how the gold standard worked. They have not considered the merits of returning to the gold standard. The gold standard, in their minds, is a relic of a bygone era.
The contributions in this volume help to bridge the knowledge gap created by fifty years of fiat money.

Does Capitalism Really Promote Consumerism?

by Patrick Carroll

One of the more common objections to capitalism is that it promotes materialism and excessive consumption. But while capitalism certainly enables us to consume more, that isn’t the full story.

If anything, the wanton accumulation of possessions is actually discouraged by the very mechanisms that make the system tick.

Rolling Stone Gathers Moss Again

Posted: 05 Sep 2021 11:59 AM PDT

(Steven Hayward)It was seven years ago that Rolling Stone magazine ran the 9,000-word cover story on an alleged rape at the University of Virginia that turned out to be a complete hoax. (File it next to Dan Rather’s Texas Air National Guard story.)

Well, it looks like Rolling Stone has done it again. I don’t know what’s up with the controversy over the use of ivermectin, normally a drug treatment for de-worming horses, as a COVID treatment, but Rolling Stone has a long piece up claiming that an Oklahoma hospital is having to treat large numbers of ivermectin overdoses, and denying hospital beds for patients with other medical needs:

The rise in people using ivermectin, an anti-parasitic drug usually reserved for deworming horses or livestock, as a treatment or preventative for Covid-19 has emergency rooms “so backed up that gunshot victims were having hard times getting” access to health facilities, an emergency room doctor in Oklahoma said.

This week, Dr. Jason McElyea told KFOR the overdoses are causing backlogs in rural hospitals, leaving both beds and ambulance services scarce.

“The ERs are so backed up that gunshot victims were having hard times getting to facilities where they can get definitive care and be treated,” McElyea said.

There’s only one problem with the story: It is almost certainly fake news. Rolling Stone has now appended this note to the top of the piece:

UPDATE: Northeastern Hospital System Sequoyah issued a statement: Although Dr. Jason McElyea is not an employee of NHS Sequoyah, he is affiliated with a medical staffing group that provides coverage for our emergency room. With that said, Dr. McElyea has not worked at our Sallisaw location in over 2 monthsNHS Sequoyah has not treated any patients due to complications related to taking ivermectin. This includes not treating any patients for ivermectin overdose. All patients who have visited our emergency room have received medical attention as appropriate. Our hospital has not had to turn away any patients seeking emergency care. We want to reassure our community that our staff is working hard to provide quality healthcare to all patients. We appreciate the opportunity to clarify this issue and as always, we value our community’s support.”

The return of Andrew Luger

Posted: 05 Sep 2021 06:08 AM PDT

(Scott Johnson)On Friday afternoon the Star Tribune’s Stephen Montemayor reported that “Andrew Luger in final step of U.S. attorney nomination in Minnesota.” Luger served as United States Attorney for Minnesota from February 2014 to March 2017 under President Obama and into the early days of the Trump administration.

Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar did what she could to engineer Luger’s continued service under Trump. Her support wasn’t enough then under President Trump, but it is enough now under President Biden.

Luger’s work as United States Attorney was highly regarded by Minnesota’s federal district judges. He has a stellar reputation.

Luger saved Ilhan Omar’s nascent political career when the controversy we had ignited over her plural marriages — including her then current marriage to her brother — jeopardized it in August 2016. Luger issued a misleading letter that violated Department of Justice policy and withheld relevant facts. Omar’s 2016 state legislative campaign instantly put its public relations crisis to bed with this letter from Luger (below).

158_US Attorney August 2016 Letter (1) by Scott Johnson on Scribd

Luger’s letter was addressed to Minneapolis criminal attorney Jean Brandl, who had contacted him on behalf of Omar. Brandl, incidentally, had responded to my original August 2016 inquiry regarding Omar’s marriages. I published her response to me verbatim on Power Line and in the City Journal column “The curious case of Ilhan Omar.”

Brandl procured Luger’s letter to refute the story reported by FOX9 investigative reporter Tom Lyden: “Fox 9 has learned U.S. Attorney Andy Luger has asked U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to look into Ilhan Omar’s marriages, because she’s in ‘a position of public trust.’”

Following Luger’s letter, FOX9 deep-sixed Lyden’s story. Lyden’s story mysteriously disappeared. Ghostly traces exist in this MinnPost story and in Patrick Coolican’s Star Tribune story “U.S. Attorney Andrew Luger: Not investigating legislative candidate Ilhan Omar Luger denied a Fox 9 report of immigration investigation.”

I put this point in italics for the purpose of emphasis: Based on my own reporting, I believe that Lyden had the story right. Luger’s letter was not only improper, it was false in substance. The local office of ICE had in fact opened an investigation into Omar’s immigration status that Luger essentially killed.

I didn’t understand the critical impact of Luger’s letter until the state campaign finance board released its investigative file in Omar’s case in June 2019. The testimony of Carla Kjellberg made it clear that Luger’s letter saved Omar by extinguishing media interest in the story. I wrote Luger in June 2019:

Andy: I’ve been covering the story of Ilhan Omar’s plural marriages over the past three years on the site Power Line. Reviewing the 2016 Omar campaign “crisis committee” emails that became public earlier this month, I wonder whether you actually reviewed any documents before sending out your August 22, 2016 letter to Jean Brandl. I also wonder if you ever sent out another such letter announcing that anyone was not under investigation by the Minnesota US Attorney’s Office. Would you please let me know if you are willing to respond to these questions and, if so, when you might be able to get back to me with the answers?

Thanks.

Scott Johnson

Luger promptly responded: “Thanks. I will pass on this.”

I had no such luck this time around. Early yesterday morning I sent Luger a draft of this post and asked him for any comment by 8:00 a.m. this morning. He has provided no comment.

Former Dakota County District Judge Erica MacDonald was the United States Attorney for Minnesota in 2019. I wrote Public Affairs officer Tasha Rose Zerna to ask Ms. MacDonald about Luger’s letter:

I write for the site Power Line. I have been writing for Power Line about Ilhan Omar’s plural marriages and related issues since Omar won the DFL primary against Phyllis Kahn in August 2016. I was the first of many journalists who received a non-response and accusation of bigotry via attorney Jean Brandl when I asked Omar about it that August.

On August 22 [2016] Andy Luger wrote a letter in his capacity as US Attorney to Jean Brandl advising that Omar was not under investigation for immigration fraud and that she was not under investigation. The letter was widely reported at the time and I didn’t think much of it.

I found the letter again in the state campaign finance board investigative file on Omar….Reading the deposition of Carla Kjellberg, also in the board investigative file, I understood for the first time how important Andy’s letter was in tamping down the stories about Omar’s marriages and related issues. I wrote Andy [on Sunday of the week I wrote MacDonald] to ask if he reviewed any documents before sending the letter and if he had ever sent a similar letter announcing that someone was not under investigation by his office. He responded…that he would prefer not to respond (“I will pass on this”).

It seems to me that the public is owed a substantive response to these simple questions. I am seeking a response from Ms. MacDonald in her capacity as US Attorney.

Thank you for your courtesies and consideration.

Scott Johnson

Ms. Zerna responded:

Scott,

Thank you for your inquiry. Ms. MacDonald was sworn in as U.S. Attorney on June 11, 2018, 15 months after former U.S. Attorney Luger’s resignation. U.S. Attorney MacDonald is not aware of Mr. Luger’s deliberative process in drafting the below referenced August 22, 2016 letter.

Thank you,

Tasha

Tasha Rose Zerna | Public Affairs
U.S. Attorney’s Office

If our United States Attorney’s Office was in the business of giving out letters like the one from Luger, I wanted one of my own. I followed up to inquire more specifically (1) whether the office sends letters such as Luger’s to Brandl as a matter of routine and (2) whether Omar wax then under investigation. I asked Ms. Zerna: Can you be any more forthcoming? She responded:

Scott,

No such letters have been sent by U.S. Attorney MacDonald. Regarding your other questions, DOJ generally does not confirm the existence of or otherwise comment about ongoing investigations. As a result, I can’t respond to or comment on any questions about the existence or non-existence of any investigation.

Thank you,

Tasha

If Luger is in fact nominated to serve again in the position he held when he wrongly sent Omar a lifeline in 2016, perhaps some Republican member of the Senate Judiciary Committee can bestir himself or herself to press Luger on these issues.

Axe the Honor Roll!

Posted: 04 Sep 2021 06:33 PM PDT

(John Hinderaker)I went through a stage in my life when I was a less than diligent student. It isn’t that I wasn’t working, I just wasn’t working on the things my teachers had assigned as homework. The result was that there were a couple of 9-weeks periods in junior high school when I didn’t make the honor roll.

I have never personally encountered the wrath of God, but the wrath of my parents when I failed to make the honor roll was a near enough substitute to last a lifetime. So, where was Bill de Blasio Warren Wilhelm Jr. when I needed him? De Blasio’s New York City Department of Education is moving to ban the honor roll.

[A] new DOE guidance warns that “recognizing student excellence via honor rolls and class rank can be detrimental to learners who find it more difficult to reach academic success.”

The solution? Do away with standards–i.e., “academic success”–altogether! That way, no one can achieve academic success and no one will feel bad. Or good.

Even grades can negatively influence “future student performance.”

That is a ridiculous assertion. Grades positively influence future student performance, especially when your parents exhibit a total lack of sympathy when they aren’t very good. But even in a less functional family, how can a student know when he or she is doing better (or worse) if there are no grades?

Instead, DOE’s geniuses want to emphasize “contributions to the school or wider community, and demonstrations of social justice and integrity.” Staff should “eliminate practices that penalize students who have been marginalized based on their race, culture, language and/or ability.”

Who needs to know how to do trigonometry if you can just substitute “demonstrations of social justice and integrity?” Where were these people when I was trying to figure out what the cosine of an angle was? Social justice is so much easier. Especially these days, when your teacher probably can’t do trigonometry either but is hell on wheels when it comes to left-wing cliches.

Of course, the real goal is simply to help adults who run the schools hide their failures in getting kids to learn. That’s why the teachers unions and their allies in the system, like state education czar Betty Rosa, oppose standardized tests.

As with de Blasio’s entire crusade for “equity” in the schools, it boils down to a war on excellence that includes the drive to cancel Gifted & Talented classes, admissions screening for middle schools and even the testing that ensures the city’s elite high schools remain top-notch.

I think that is right. The war on standards mostly comes down to the fact that so many teachers and educational bureaucrats cannot themselves meet any meaningful standard, let alone teach our children how to do so.

Short on hot dogs or buns for your end-of-summer cookout? Don’t sweat it. Most major retailers and grocery stores are open Monday . The federal holiday, which falls on the first Monday in September, celebrates the achievements of workers. But plenty of them will be behind the counter and restocking the aisles. Walmart, Target, Publix, Kroger and Albertsons are open along with CVS, Rite Aid and Walgreens. Most pharmacies are closed or operating with limited hours. Looking to eat out? As restaurants continue to have staffing shortages amid the pandemic, which eateries are open to dine in Monday – and their hours – can vary depending on where you live.

Enhanced weekly $300 unemployment benefits set to expire

The expanded federal unemployment benefits, which include $300 weekly bonus checks, are set to expire on Monday . The enhanced benefits, designed to help Americans who lost jobs because of the pandemic, were enacted last year under the federal CARES Act by former President Donald Trump. The boost, originally $600, was extended twice, most recently to Sept. 6 under Biden’s American Rescue Plan. Several states with Republican governors have already opted out of the benefits, slamming the extra money as a financial disincentive for the unemployed to get back to work. Other enhanced benefits during the pandemic, such as the extended length of benefits and the coverage for individuals who wouldn’t typically qualify, will also expire Sept. 6.

One week after Hurricane Ida made landfall in Louisiana, tens of thousands of residents were still without power Monday .  Most residents in New Orleans will have power by Wednesday, Entergy estimates, but a handful of parishes may not regain power until Sept. 29. Full restoration of electricity to some of the hardest-hit areas could take until the end of the month, Louisiana’s largest electric utility company said. The storm damaged or destroyed more than 22,000 power poles, 26,000 spans of wire and 5,261 transformers — that’s more poles damaged or destroyed than Katrina, Zeta and Delta combined, the company said.

Because further research shows, ONE of these positions is linked to the first signs of dementia.

“Smart toilets” are apparently the next big thing just in case you want Big Tech monitoring your butt too

ImageYou’ve got a smart phone, maybe a smart fridge, possibly even one of those smart thermostats that reads your brain waves and adjusts the temperature accordingly. But what about a smart toilet? Did you ever consider such a thing? No? Okay that’s fair.

A mysterious gnarly looking aircraft first spotted in California last year appears to have resurfaced in the Philippines this week

99.) MARK LEVIN

September 3, 2021

September 3, 2021

On Friday’s Mark Levin Show, Gen. George S. Patton was an inspirational General in the American military and the movie “Patton” reenacts one of the most passionate speeches from the legendary general. This inspiration is the kind of message America needs to hear, not President Biden’s speeches that separate Americans by race. America can not embrace Biden’s trajectory of surrender, abandonment, and empowering our enemies like Iran, China, and others. Then, the media is running to the ramparts to announce the reversal of Roe. V Wade when that in fact has not happened. The White House cites biological differences but usually embraces the idea that there are no biological differences between men and birthing people. They will use any physical characteristics like race, gender, and religion to split people into groups. Later, the politicians and the media continue to disgustingly use deaths from a natural disaster to advance their climate change agenda. According to current reports, people have only tapped into a very small portion of the earth’s resources and that includes the industrial revolution. But for the liberty and mobility of We The People standing in the way, the American Marxists would have their way on every single one of their radical issues. Afterward, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez lacks experience in any particular policy area, but the Democrats made her the expert on attacking capitalism in the name of climate change. She alleges that the fossil fuel industry is incompatible with humanity. Yet, it is the fossil fuel industry that is responsible for food reaching Americans all over this country. AOC’s statement is not just flawed, it is stupid. Even the scientists agree that climate–catastrophe-mongering is one of the biggest frauds in science today.
