2.) THE EPOCH TIMES
SPRING INTO ACTION You can help keep the truth coming in a city that desperately needs it! The more The Epoch Times reports the truth to the citizens of Hong Kong, the more the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) tries to shut us down. Previous attempts haven’t worked, and it won’t work now. On April 12, four black-clad masked intruders broke into our facility and used hammers to smash our printing presses and a computer. Of course, we’ll rebuild as soon as we can, and we’ll find ways to keep the news coming. But we can’t do it alone. Your support will get the presses rolling that much quicker. Just as the people of Hong Kong are counting on us, we’re counting on you!

13.) AXIOS
Axios AM
Hello, Friday! Smart Brevity™ count: 985 words … < 4 minutes.
It’s been 40 years since America last saw a damaging level of inflation. Despite that — or perhaps because of it — inflation fears are widespread, and could even become self-fulfilling, Axios’ Felix Salmon writes.
- Why it matters: The government’s strategy for bringing back jobs and widespread prosperity involves a necessary — yet temporary — increase in inflation. When an entire generation has never experienced an inflation-driven rise in prices, that’s disconcerting.
Between the lines: It might be temporary inflation. Lots of people are likely to blow lots of money fast, then ease into more normal and manageable spending.
The government is telling us to get ready:
- The Federal Reserve — whose job is to worry about inflation — isn’t worried. “We do expect that inflation will move up over the course of this year,” said Fed Chair Jay Powell in congressional testimony last month. “Our best view is that the effect on inflation will be neither particularly large nor persistent.”
- The White House agrees. “In the next several months we expect measured inflation to increase somewhat,” economists Jared Bernstein and Ernie Tedeschi wrote this week. That inflation, they said, “will likely be transitory,” and “should fade over time as the economy recovers from the pandemic.”
The bottom line: When inflation expectations rise significantly, that can itself cause inflation, as vendors raise prices to try to get in front of it.

A gunman opened fire at a FedEx warehouse facility in Indianapolis late last night, killing at least eight people and wounding others.
- Police said the shooter killed himself. He’s believed to have acted alone, The Indianapolis Star reports.
The context: A string of mass shootings has plagued the U.S. in what was supposed to be a better year. Last month, eight people were fatally shot in the Atlanta area, and 10 died in gunfire at a supermarket in Boulder.

The Economist points to “underappreciated risks” of CEOs’ growing voice on voting restrictions and other major issues (subscription):
To want to defend voting rights, which are central to democracy, is only natural. But that leads ineluctably to the next test — over support for, say, new federal voting laws, reform of the Supreme Court and boycotts of China over human-rights abuses in Xinjiang. If CEOs claim that their companies are moral actors, will they be consistent?
Go deeper … Edelman president and CEO Richard Edelman, “Why I Signed”: “In this period of information bankruptcy and instability, business has to be a primary source of objective facts, a catalyst for change and a standard-bearer for universal values.”

The White House says the intelligence community doesn’t have conclusive evidence that Russian intelligence operatives encouraged the Taliban to attack American troops in Afghanistan, AP reports.
- Why it matters: The assessment undermines one of the sharpest attacks Democrats leveled against former President Trump.
The intelligence community determined it has only “low to moderate confidence” in the reports’ authenticity.
- White House press secretary Jen Psaki said that was due in part to the ways in which the intelligence was obtained, including from interrogations of Afghan detainees.
Former Trump national security adviser Robert O’Brien tweeted:
This briefing held up well … I credit the IC for releasing this important analysis & confirming that what the Admin said at the time was 100% accurate.

Bodycam video, released more than two weeks after the fatal police shooting of 13-year-old Adam Toledo in Chicago, shows the young boy ditching a handgun during an alley chase before turning toward the officer with his empty hands raised.
- “[T]he city’s focus inevitably turned toward the crucial split second showing the shooting itself — the grainy, graphic end to the life of the youngest person fatally shot by Chicago police in years,” the Chicago Tribune reports.
Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot described the footage as “excruciating,” and urged the public to remain calm.
Unlike Bitcoin, dogecoin (pronounced “d’oh-zh coin”) — a literal joke of a cryptocurrency — is not supply-constrained. If you want more of it, you can mine it — and then, presumably, sell it, given the profit margin of about 57%, Felix Salmon writes in Axios Capital.
- The bottom line: This is like GameStop but dumber.

Local news is moving into the digital era, Axios Media Trends author Sara Fischer reports:
- Substack Local will launch with a $1 million initiative to help 30 independent writers build local news publications using Substack’s subscription model.
- Facebook plans to dedicate a large part of its new newsletter publishing platform to supporting independent local journalists covering communities solo, sources tell Axios.
- 6am city, a local newsletter company that launched in the Southeast, expects to be in at least 15 markets by the end of the year.
- Patch, the hyperlocal digital news company, last year launched a program called Patch Labs that lets local reporters publish their own newsletters and monetize them.
- Axios bought the Charlotte Agenda last year as a part of a new local news push. Axios now publishes local newsletters in five markets — Tampa Bay, Des Moines, Charlotte, Denver and the Twin Cities — and plan to launch next in NW Arkansas.
Take the Local: Sign up for Axios in six areas, and learn about new ones.
Arianna Huffington writes on Thrive Global that there’s a scientific connection between climate change and our own fraying mental health:
When we’re burned out, exhausted and depleted, we operate on short-termism and day-to-day survival … We’re much less likely to spot the iceberg before it hits the Titanic. …
In our always-on and screen-saturated world, we have a hard time looking up, looking out, looking forward and being part of the solution.

During Saturday’s funeral at Windsor Castle, Prince Philip’s coffin will be borne by a bespoke Land Rover Defender that the World War II veteran and sporty outdoorsman helped design:
- Buckingham Palace said the prince, who died at 99, started on the project with Land Rover 18 years ago, Reuters reports.
It’s painted Dark Bronze Green — the color for many military Land Rovers.
- Prime Minister Boris Johnson told Parliament: “That vehicle’s unique and idiosyncratic silhouette reminds the world that he was, above all, a practical man.”

Amanda Gorman, 23 — whose inauguration poem went viral, and is now out with “The Hill We Climb: An Inaugural Poem for the Country” — tweets:
Wow second week atop the NYT best-seller list! So much gratitude as I look back on how I first started performing poetry years ago despite my speech impediment. All I can say is to any young writer, keep writing. Keep going. Your day will come.

Good morning from Rome. Eight people were killed in a late-night shooting at a FedEx facility in Indianapolis. Police say the shooter killed himself. In Chicago, bodycam video appears to show that a 13-year-old boy dropped his gun and had his hands up when a police officer shot and killed him. Another night of protests in a Minneapolis suburb, where Daunte Wright’s family demanded more severe charges against the white former police officer who fatally shot him.

25.) POLITICO PLAYBOOK
POLITICO Playbook: Pelosi’s big headache — and the Post’s black-box editor search
Presented by Facebook
DRIVING THE DAY
BREAKING OVERNIGHT — “8 dead, more injured in shooting at FedEx facility near the airport,” Indianapolis Star
PELOSI’S LATEST HEADACHE — “Lawmakers scramble for ‘musical chairs’ to view Biden’s first Capitol speech,” by Mel Zanona and Sarah Ferris: “Which is a hotter ticket: Beyonce’s first post-pandemic concert or President Joe Biden’s first address to Congress? Washington is about to find out. Even as life slowly returns to normal on Capitol Hill amid the shrinking threat of Covid, strict safety protocols will remain in place for Biden’s April 28 joint address inside the House chamber. That means only 200 lawmakers, administration officials and staff will likely be allowed to attend the distanced and heavily sanitized event, a far cry from the typical crowds for a prime-time presidential speech.
“Such tight limits mean Democrats are already jockeying to score one of the precious few seats. And a handful of lawmakers have already logged a request with party leaders, who have the unenviable task of divvying up the small passel of tickets for the president’s debut speech.”
“Jockeying” is one word for it. We’re told the situation surrounding Biden’s speech is already downright contentious. One Democratic source told us that some in leadership didn’t even want to have this address because they knew it would cause this very problem with their members. People will feel jilted if they don’t get an invite. And Speaker NANCY PELOSI can’t afford that now because her majority is so narrow. But Biden wanted it, and the president gets what he wants.
AND A GROWING HEADACHE FOR BIDEN, TOO — Progressives started out with a nudge: lawmakers including Rep. ILHAN OMAR (D-Minn.) privately telling administration officials they needed to lift DONALD TRUMP’S historically low cap on refugees. Biden promised as much in the campaign, Omar, herself a one-time refugee, reminded them.
Well, the time for nice is up. This morning, Omar and others are publicly demanding that Biden take action now to fix a system that “remains unacceptably draconian and discriminatory,” according to a letter provided early to Playbook. Joining her are Congressional Progressive Caucus Chair PRAMILA JAYAPAL (D-Wash.) and Rep. JAN SCHAKOWSKY (D-Ill.), a top Pelosi ally, as well as every member of the Squad, a couple of committee chairs and several more junior members of the speaker’s leadership team.
FROM THE LETTER TO THE W.H.: “We have all been deeply distressed at the stories of hundreds of refugees who had been cleared for resettlement having their flights cancelled at the last minute, in some cases having already left their residences and sold their belongings. We must keep our promises to people who have fled unthinkably brutal conditions in their home countries and live up to our ambition to provide them a safe haven to re-start their lives.”
The missive comes after CNN reported that the holdup was over concerns that lifting the cap would look bad politically. White House press secretary JEN PSAKI danced around the issue during Thursday’s press briefing. “I don’t have an update on the timeline of the signing,” she said when pressed on the reason for the delay. “The president remains committed to raising the refugee cap.”
TGIF. Thanks for reading Playbook, and here’s to a headache-free weekend. But if you do have a headache, we recommend this new 45-minute Arcade Fire song of “meditative vibes to help you focus and feel inspired.” Drop us a line with tips, praise, criticism … whatever you’d like to share: Rachael Bade, Eugene Daniels, Ryan Lizza, Tara Palmeri.
BIDEN’S FRIDAY — The president will receive the President’s Daily Brief at 9:50 a.m. Biden will host Japanese PM YOSHIHIDE SUGA for an official working visit at 1:30 p.m. in the Oval Office. The two will hold an expanded bilateral meeting at 2:30 p.m. in the State Dining Room and at 4:15 p.m. will hold a news conference in the Rose Garden. Biden will leave the White House at 5:30 p.m. en route to Wilmington, Del., where he is scheduled to arrive at 6:25 p.m.
— VP KAMALA HARRIS will hold a bilateral meeting with Suga at 11 a.m. in the Vice President’s Ceremonial Office.
— The White House Covid-19 response team and public health officials will brief at 10:30 a.m. Psaki will brief at 11 a.m.
THE HOUSE will meet at 9 a.m. THE SENATE is not in session.
PLAYBOOK READS
CONGRESS
THE SENATE EXPLORES AN INFRASTRUCTURE DEAL — On Thursday, Biden ally Sen. CHRIS COONS (D-Del.) floated a two-pronged approach to infrastructure: a bipartisan bill on core infrastructure spending, followed by a second bill that includes all the other stuff Biden has proposed in his American Jobs Plan and the forthcoming American Families Plan.
On paper the Coons approach makes sense. But the details may prove impossible to work out.
The two parties might be able to agree on spending. House Transportation Chair PETER DEFAZIO (D-Ore.) sounded pretty bullish about the $600 billion to $800 billion number floated by Sen. SHELLEY MOORE CAPITO (R-W.Va.): “That’s not an insignificant amount of money, particularly for the things she’s focused on … roads, bridges, highways, wastewater and drinking water. That would be a significant investment!”
But it’s prudent to be skeptical. Democrats want infrastructure spending that addresses climate change and racial equity goals, which are not GOP priorities. But even if they can agree on what highways, bridges and airports to fix, the two sides are miles apart on how to pay for it. Meanwhile several Republicans are balking at the Coons two-step, noting that they are not interested in a bipartisan deal if it means Democrats will then pass a giant reconciliation bill. On the flip side, several Democrats don’t like the two-bill option because they fear the second bill may never happen.
Sen. SHELDON WHITEHOUSE (D-R.I.): “If [Republicans] know that we’ve committed to the bipartisan lane, there’s a very strong incentive for them to make that a fake and to use it simply to slow down.” More from Marianne LeVine, Burgess Everett and Sarah Ferris
Bottom line: The prospects for a bipartisan bill are a little higher now, but the most likely scenario remains a very large reconciliation bill that is essentially too big to fail — because of the damage it would do to the Biden presidency — that every Democrat, including Sens. JOE MANCHIN (W.Va.) and KYRSTEN SINEMA (Ariz.), feel obligated to support.
BIDEN
BIDEN REMAINS PRETTY POPULAR — “Biden’s approval rating rises, helped by the vaccine distribution push,” NYT
THE ECONOMY IS ROARING BACK — “U.S. Economy Ramps Up on Spending Surge, Hiring Gains,” WSJ
FOREVER WAR FALLOUT — “Biden’s Afghan Pullout Is a Victory for Pakistan. But at What Cost?” NYT: “In President Biden’s decision to withdraw all American forces from Afghanistan by September, Pakistan’s powerful military establishment finally gets its wish after decades of bloody intrigue: the exit of a disruptive superpower from a backyard where the I.S.I. had established strong influence through a friendly Taliban regime before the U.S. invaded in 2001.
“A return of the Taliban to some form of power would dial the clock back to a time when Pakistan’s military played gatekeeper to Afghanistan, perpetually working to block the influence of its archenemy, India. But the Pakistani military’s sheltering of the Taliban insurgency over the past two decades — doggedly pursuing a narrowly defined geopolitical victory next door — risks another wave of disruption at home.
“Pakistan is a fragile, nuclear-armed state already reeling from a crashed economy, waves of social unrest, agitation by oppressed minorities and a percolating Islamic militancy of its own that it is struggling to contain.”
BIDEN RESET WITH RUSSIA — “U.S. Puts Fresh Sanctions on Russia Over Hacking, Election Interference,” WSJ: “In addition to imposing financial penalties, U.S. expels 10 diplomats from Russian embassy.”
A TRUMP-RUSSIA STORY THAT WAS NOT AS BAD AS WE THOUGHT — Remember the story of Russia offering bounties to Afghan militants who killed U.S. soldiers? Biden famously used it to slam Trump at a presidential debate. Well, it turns out it may not have been true. NYT: “The available evidence supporting a stunning C.I.A. assessment — which President Donald J. Trump’s inaction on prompted bipartisan uproar — remains less than definitive proof.”
A TRUMP-RUSSIA STORY THAT WAS WORSE THAN WE THOUGHT — Remember when everyone figured that the polling PAUL MANAFORT gave to a Russian intelligence operative probably made its may to Russia intelligence services? The Biden administration alleges that’s exactly what happened. NYT: “Biden Administration Says Russian Intelligence Obtained Trump Campaign Data”
MEDIAWATCH
FRED RYAN’S ‘BLACK BOX’ SEARCH FOR A NEW EDITOR — For a while it was an irresistible parlor game among WaPo staffers: Trying to piece together who was up or down in the running to succeed MARTY BARON as top editor.
Now, they’re getting annoyed.
Post Publisher and CEO FRED RYAN has been, shall we say, quite guarded about his process, revealing neither what he’s looking for in a new leader nor his timeline for a decision. (Baron left in late February.) One WaPo staffer said Ryan is interviewing candidates by himself, but no one seems to know much more than that. Another called the entire situation a “black box.”
In a recent letter, the Post Guild asked Ryan to participate in an employee forum that would allow staffers to express what qualities they want in their next newsroom leader. The group wasn’t looking to discuss specific names, just the future of the Post, we’re told.
Ryan declined.
WaPo didn’t comment for this item. But we reached out to the Guild and were given this rather pointed statement: “The staff members of The Washington Post are accomplished, hardworking and thoughtful journalists who could offer valuable perspectives about the direction the newsroom should be going and the qualities needed in our new leader. We’re disappointed Fred Ryan hasn’t shown he values those perspectives.”
For what it’s worth, the latest thinking among reporters is that former Post managing editor KEVIN MERIDA, now with ESPN, doesn’t want the job. Others in the mix include MARC LACEY and REBECCA BLUMENSTEIN of the NYT; SUSAN GOLDBERG of NatGeo; and more recently, LOUISE STORY of the WSJ and formerly NYT. Two internal contenders are managing editor CAMERON BARR and national editor STEVEN GINSBERG.
MEANWHILE, AT CBS — “CBS names two new presidents of unified news and television division,” CBS: “Wendy McMahon and Neeraj Khemlani will become the presidents and co-heads of a unified CBS News and CBS Television Stations division, the company announced Thursday. CBS News President Susan Zirinsky, who has led the network’s newsgathering for more than two years, is in discussions for a ‘significant’ role at a new CBS News Content Studio, the company said.”
POLITICS ROUNDUP
2024 WATCH — “2024 GOP contenders collect cash,” by Benjamin Din: “Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) led the pack in first-quarter contributions, with totals that dwarfed those of their potential competition. Cruz brought in $3.6 million to his Senate reelection committee, which reported $5.6 million in cash on hand. Hawley’s totals: $3 million in receipts, with $3.1 million on hand. …
“[Sen. Rand] Paul raised $1.9 million and has $3.1 million on hand, while [Sen. Marco] Rubio reported a haul of $1.6 million this quarter, with $3.9 million in cash on hand. … Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.), who was just elected to his second term, raised just under $130,000 and has $2.1 million on hand. … Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) reported bringing in about $397,000, for a total of $6.5 million in cash on hand, while Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.), who mostly self-funded his 2018 campaign, raised about $96,000 and has just under $2.2 million in cash on hand.”
THE NEW GOP — “‘A nicer version of Trump’: GOP donors flock to DeSantis,” by Alex Isenstadt: “Major givers across the country are lining up to support the governor’s 2022 reelection effort, with some committing to hosting fundraising events and others plowing funds into his campaign bank account. In the past two-plus months alone, [Ron] DeSantis has received six-figure contributions from Republican megadonors including Bernie Marcus, Paul Tudor Jones and Steven Witkoff, who in March held a high-dollar fundraiser at his lavish Miami Beach home.
“The surge of attention illustrates how the GOP donor class is beginning to look beyond former President Donald Trump. While the former president would almost certainly lock down vast donor support should he wage a 2024 comeback bid, the lack of clarity about his plans has opened the door for other would-be candidates to get a look. Nearly two dozen top Republican Party contributors and fundraisers said in interviews that the focus was increasingly centered on DeSantis. Donor interest in the governor extends far beyond Florida.”
2022 WATCH — FRIDAY READ: “The Democrats’ Giant Dilemma,” by Holly Otterbein: “John Fetterman’s blue-collar progressivism has endeared him to Pennsylvania voters. Why are so many Democratic leaders opposing his Senate run?”
GAETZ-GATE
HOW IT UNFOLDED — “How the Justice Department came to investigate Rep. Matt Gaetz,” WaPo: “The allegations against [Orlando-area preparatory school teacher Brian] Beute, federal investigators concluded, had been fabricated by his incumbent opponent, Joel Greenberg, in a bid to smear him. But when authorities arrested Greenberg and sifted through his electronic records and devices — according to documents and people involved in the case — they discovered a medley of other alleged wrongdoing, leading them to open an investigation of possible sex trafficking involving a far more high-profile Florida Republican: Rep. Matt Gaetz.
“This account of how the Justice Department’s investigation evolved from an examination of a local tax collector’s alleged misdeeds to a sprawling probe of sex and corruption involving a prominent Trump ally is based on interviews with more than a dozen people involved in the investigation or otherwise tied to Gaetz or Greenberg, as well as police reports and other public records.”
WATCH: Racism in America keeps rearing its head and Washington responds: Testimony ended Thursday in the murder trial of former Minneapolis police officer DEREK CHAUVIN, and lawmakers find themselves in a very familiar bind — how to address the issue of racism in America. On Tuesday, Biden was asked about the protests over DAUNTE WRIGHT’S shooting. The next day, Sen. MAZIE HIRONO (D-Hawaii) opened up about the fear she feels as an AAPI woman. As they watch this week’s top news videos, EUGENE shares his own fear of law enforcement with TARA, and they discuss how white privilege can completely change your feelings toward cops.

NOW DEPARTING: GATE 35X — On Thursday, we asked for your best (and worst) stories from DCA’s infamous Gate 35X as it closes down this week. We heard a handful of funny and fascinating stories, but we thought this one best encapsulated the essence of what you could find at 35X on any given day:
“A memorable moment for me, as a former longtime adviser to Vice President Gore, was the chance to meet Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) and his wife. Prior to that, I had only ever sparred with the senator politically. He’s such a lovely person IRL. We didn’t talk politics (I didn’t mention who I was), we just passed the time enduring one of the many airport delays.” –Kalee Kreider, principal at Kreider Strategies

The Morning Briefing: Area Fascist Jack Dorsey Purges James O’Keefe From Twitter
Top O’ the Briefing
The Twitter War on Truth Continues
Happy Friday, dear Kruiser Morning Briefing friends. Mail-order sushi really isn’t a good idea.
I should begin by noting that I’m still craving Steak-umms after the way the company’s social media person destroyed Neil deGrasse Tyson on Monday. I don’t think I’ve eaten the stuff since I was in my twenties but I can assure you in advance that I’m going to enjoy having it again.
Mmmmm….Steak-umms.
The Steak-umm/Neil deGrasse Tyson thing played out on Twitter. Those of us of a certain age remember a time long, long ago when Twitter was fun almost all the time. We played songs. We had goofy hashtags games that were laugh-out-loud funny. We made friends. We made dates.
That was way back in the early 2010s though.
The Twitter experience is a bit less enjoyable here in the year of our Lord 2021. Especially if you are a conservative who has a habit of telling the truth about liberals.
James O’Keefe and Project Veritas have spent the week exposing some of the lying rot at CNN, which we discussed here a couple of days ago. Yesterday, Twitter responded by permanently suspending O’Keefe, because that’s what Twitter does when the progressive lie is threatened.
Tyler writes that O’Keefe will not stand idly by and get railroaded:
On Thursday, after Project Veritas released the third in a series of CNN sting videos, Twitter suspended the account of Project Veritas’ founder, James O’Keefe III. In a statement to PJ Media, O’Keefe announced he would sue Twitter over the suspension.
“I am suing Twitter for defamation because they said I, James O’Keefe, ‘operated fake accounts.’ This is false, this is defamatory, and they will pay,” O’Keefe told PJ Media. “Section 230 may have protected them before, but it will not protect them from me. The complaint will be filed Monday. Please follow me on Telegram https://t.me/JamesOKeefeIII.”
O’Keefe is no stranger to litigation. If he says he’s suing, he’s doing it with some legal heft behind him.
Twitter is rarely clear on why it suspends conservative accounts and when it is, it’s almost always garbage, like it is here.
There are many on the conservative side who say we should simply abandon the site en masse. Some of us, however, think that Dorsey and his commie enforcers should be made to change their ways. It won’t be easy but it is a fight worth fighting. Alternative social media sites for conservatives are a good idea but we shouldn’t have to tuck our tails and run every time the progressive billionaire bullies want to make life difficult for us.
I hope O’Keefe makes Hippie Jack and his Soviet enforcers regret this.
Tragedy In Indianapolis
This was breaking just as I was wrapping everything up:
Tragedy has the city of Indianapolis. Eight people are dead after a mass shooting at a FedEx center. Around 11 PM, local police were summoned after reports of shots being fired at the facility. Police described the initial situation as an active shooter event. Eight people were dead at the scene. The gunman is also deceased after apparently committing suicide. Police said they don’t know if the suspect is an employee of FedEx. A local Holiday Inn is being used as a family reunification site.
We will have updates as they become available.

The Morning Dispatch: SolarWinds Sanctions for Russia
Plus: Diplomats meet in Vienna to discuss reentering the Iran nuclear deal.
The Dispatch Staff | 26 min ago | 5 |
Happy Friday! Steve wanted us to let you know that former Chicago Bears Super Bowl-winning quarterback Jim McMahon said in a recent interview that the Green Bay Packers were the “best organization” he ever played for, and that “Chicago is where quarterbacks go to die.”
Declan didn’t want to include this, but Steve’s the boss.
Quick Hits: Today’s Top Stories
- The Biden administration announced sweeping sanctions against Russia yesterday in response to the SolarWinds hack of U.S. government agencies and Russia’s interference in the 2020 election. The package will prevent American banks from purchasing Russian bonds, sanction dozens of individuals and entities for their role in the hack and election interference, and expel 10 Russian diplomats from the embassy in Washington, D.C.
- One day after President Joe Biden announced the United States would begin withdrawing its remaining forces from Afghanistan on May 1, Secretary of State Antony Blinken made a surprise trip to Kabul in an attempt to reassure Afghan leaders of America’s ongoing commitment. “The partnership is changing but the partnership itself is enduring,” Blinken said.
- U.S. retail sales jumped 9.8 percent in March—the largest month-over-month gain since May 2020—according to a Census Bureau report published Thursday. Initial jobless claims also decreased by 193,000 week-over-week to 576,000 last week, the lowest level since March 14, 2020.
- New data from the Centers for Disease Control yesterday further demonstrated the efficacy of the authorized COVID-19 vaccines. Of more than 66 million fully vaccinated Americans, just 5,800—or 0.008 percent—reported a COVID-19 infection. Of those approximately 5,800 “breakthrough” cases, just 7 percent were hospitalized, and about 1.3 percent died.
- Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Thursday she has “no plans” to bring Rep. Jerry Nadler’s bill—which would add four justices to the Supreme Court—to the House floor for a vote. Pelosi added that she supports President Biden’s recently announced commission to study Supreme Court reforms.
- The United States confirmed 75,861 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday per the Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 Dashboard, with 5.9 percent of the 1,276,500 tests reported coming back positive. An additional 982 deaths were attributed to the virus on Thursday, bringing the pandemic’s American death toll to 565,283. According to the Centers for Disease Control, 37,962 Americans are currently hospitalized with COVID-19. Meanwhile, 3,525,204 COVID-19 vaccine doses were administered yesterday, with 125,822,868 Americans having now received at least one dose.
Biden Sanctions Russia Over SolarWinds Hack, Election Interference
Back in March, we detailed the U.S. National Intelligence Council’s declassified report disclosing covert efforts by Russia, Iran, and other entities to influence the 2020 election. Their 15-page findings—which identified President Vladimir Putin by name—detailed Russia’s online campaign “aimed at denigrating President Biden and the Democratic Party, supporting former President Trump, undermining public confidence in the electoral process, and exacerbating sociopolitical divisions in the U.S.”
One month later, Biden is settling the score with his Russian counterpart, slamming the Kremlin with sweeping sanctions for its election interference and cyber attacks, among other national security breaches.
The White House said Thursday that the U.S. intelligence community has “high confidence” that the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service—also known as the SVR—executed the SolarWinds hacking operation, a cyber security breach that allowed Moscow to “spy on or potentially disrupt more than 16,000 computer systems worldwide.”
Biden’s executive order will extend existing sovereign debt sanctions on Moscow by prohibiting U.S. financial institutions from trading bonds issued by Russian entities after June 14. Ten Russian diplomats will also be expelled from the Kremlin’s embassy in Washington, D.C., and an additional 32 Russian individuals and entities will be sanctioned for their involvement in election interference campaigns. A senior administration official also told reporters Thursday that “there will be elements of our responses to these actions that will remain unseen.”
Is Now the Time to Restore the Iran Nuclear Deal?
There have been a series of important developments out of Iran in recent weeks, from JCPOA negotiations in Vienna, to a covert attack on the Islamic Republic’s Natanz facility, to President Hassan Rouhani announcing plans to begin enriching uranium at 60 percent purity.
These incidents are not at all unrelated, as Charlotte explains in a piece for the site today.
“Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization spokesperson, Behrouz Kamalvandi, speaking from his hospital bed after falling 23 feet into a hole caused by the [Natanz] blast, dismissed the incident as a ‘little explosion’ but vowed ‘revenge on the Zionist regime,’” she writes. “Given the clear and credible attribution to Israeli forces in sources close to the horse’s mouth, some experts fear the Islamic Republic might be cornered into retaliation in the absence of Jerusalem’s plausible deniability. Others point out that in the earliest stages of the Vienna negotiations, such a move would derail Tehran’s efforts to secure desperately needed sanctions relief.”
Will the attack on Iran’s Natanz facility meaningfully hamper its nuclear program?
“If the aim was to limit Iran’s nuclear capability, I have to say that on the contrary, all the centrifuges that went out of order due to the incident were of the IR-1 type, and they are being replaced with more advanced ones,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said Monday.
But blanket promises to restore the nuclear cache to its former glory may be in vain while unresolved breaches cripple Iran’s security apparatus. “Tehran will respond with rhetorical bluster, but it is likely that it has also initiated a frenzied security review to determine which external actors have obtained this access,” Norman Roule, former U.S. national intelligence manager for Iran, told The Dispatch. “Unless they can resolve their security concerns, they cannot be sure they will be able to protect their personnel or sensitive facilities from future attacks.”
The timing by Mossad, Israel’s spy agency and the suspected culprit, was no coincidence. Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert speculated Wednesday that the explosives were planted at the facility well in advance, “maybe 10 years ago or 15 years ago,” before being triggered remotely.
How will these developments impact negotiations surrounding the JCPOA?
The weekend’s events reportedly produced political tumult within Tehran, as some politicians urged foreign ministry leadership to pull out of the Vienna talks altogether. But Zarif said Monday that Iran remains undeterred in its quest for sanctions relief, insisting that the “desperate act” improved his envoy’s standing and calling on the Biden administration to “remove all sanctions imposed, re-imposed, or relabeled since the adoption of the JCPOA.”
According to Brodsky, this demand is a “nonstarter,” regardless of the administration. Under the 2015 agreement, the U.S. retains the right to impose sanctions on Iran for a wide array of non-nuclear behavior—including its domestic human rights abuses, regional sponsorship of terrorism, and extensive ballistic missile program.
Worth Your Time
- In a piece for Arc Digital, Christopher Ferguson explores what he sees as an increasingly pervasive culture of victimhood on both sides of the political aisle. “Being a member of an aggrieved group, and that group’s aggrieved status being unquestionable and conferring certain epistemic advantages, is for many people a central input in their social experience,” he argues. “There is a critical difference between taking accusations of victimization seriously and taking victimhood claims at face value without any attempt to collect evidence, data, or the other side’s perspective. The first is consistent with properly and impartially investigating the merits of individual claims; the second is not. Predictably, it’s the second approach that gives license to, and even incentivizes, the cynical deployment of victimhood. That’s not what we want.”
- Angela Rasmussen is a virologist at Georgetown University’s Medical Center—and she recently received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine—so who better to write about this week’s news? “Even though I am a woman and fall within the age group of people who experienced clotting, I am not worried about my own personal risk,” she writes. “Approximately 1.5 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine have been administered to women under the age of 50, so if the risk is high only for that group, the incidence is around one in 250,000. Pregnancy, using hormonal contraceptives and smoking all are associated with a much higher risk of this form of blood clotting than even crude estimates of the vaccine-related risk for clotting. The odds of having a blood clotting disorder as a result of having Covid-19 is much higher, affecting as many as one in five hospitalized patients. This means that if you received this vaccine and you are under 50, the odds are in your favor.”
- The share of Americans who identify as politically independent has been steadily rising in recent years, but this isn’t necessarily the antidote to polarization and excessive partisanship you might think. “Many Americans are so dissatisfied with politics and turned off by how ugly and partisan it has become that they now refuse to openly identify with either party—even though most still consistently back one party,” Geoffrey Skelley writes for FiveThirtyEight. “This is troubling because it suggests that Americans not only are less willing to share their political beliefs but also no longer engage in politics in ways that go beyond just voting—developments that have negative ramifications for the health of our democracy. … The defining characteristic of our politics may be that the parties are weak while partisanship is quite strong.”

Toeing the Company Line
- With President Biden announcing the United States’ withdrawal from Afghanistan earlier this week, there’s been lots of talk about how we “lost” the war. But in his latest French Press(🔒), David argues that couldn’t be further from the truth. “If I had told you [on September 12, 2001] that the United States was about to embark on a military response that would, over the course of the next twenty years, 1) almost immediately depose the Taliban and ultimately kill Osama bin Laden, 2) defend our nation from enduring even a single further large-scale terror attack, and 3) cost fewer American combat fatalities in Afghanistan than were lost in a single day on 9/11, would you have thought, ‘sounds like we lost?’” he writes. “No. Of course not. Because we haven’t lost. Because we aren’t losing. Our military measures since 9/11 have accomplished their primary, fundamental goal: defending our nation from jihadist terror.”

Joe Biden, famous authoritarian, wants to fight authoritarianism
Posted: 16 Apr 2021 05:01 AM PDT Buried at the end of page nineteen of the Biden administration’s twenty-three-page Interim National Security Strategic Guidance issued to the public last month is this gem: “Authoritarianism is on the global march, and we must join with likeminded allies and partners to revitalize democracy the world over.” Put aside, for a moment, that the custodians of our constitutional republic still mistake “democracy” as the antithesis to “authoritarianism,” rather than “liberty” or “individual rights,” which are the true bulwarks for a free people to guard against the tyrant’s will. Authoritarianism is on the march? Um…it sure looks as though it’s already firebombed the turrets, splintered the drawbridge, and stormed the castle. At the very least, it traipsed into American homes this last year like a wet skunk sneaking through the kitchen’s doggy door entrance. “Wear a mask, or you will be punished!” “Stay at home, or you will be punished!” “Stop praying at church, or you will be punished!” “Forget making a living, or you will be punished!” “Inject this into your body, or no vaccine passport!” “Oh, and if you would be so kind, please let a local Democrat operative fill out your unidentifiable and untraceable mail-in ballot, so that every single vote counts!” I hate to break it to the same vast national security apparatus that largely failed to predict the fall of the Berlin Wall or the dissolution of the Soviet Union (thanks, Gipper!), but authoritarianism slipped inside the outer perimeter wall some time ago while the Pentagon was getting drunk on one too many virtue-signaling cocktails of climate change alarmism, sex change operations for the boys, and rooting out soldiers who might admit to having ever enjoyed The Dukes of Hazzard. (Speaking of outer perimeter walls, we’re on track to see one to two million foreign nationals attempt illegal entry into the U.S. this year, if the Defense Department can find some time in its busy schedule protecting other nations’ borders to consider doing the same here.) While Democrat activists posing as journalists spent the last five years accusing President Trump of being “literally Hitler,” the Fourth Estate joined the Judicial Branch in making nary a sound as municipal and state tyrants and federal agencies wielding power divined from thin air arrived at the august legal conclusion that the Constitution and the Bill of Rights exist only to protect Americans during times of peace and extraordinary security. As with so much of the law that now governs the citizens of the United States, it was amazing to discover nearly two and a half centuries after it was written that the First Amendment does not actually protect the exercise of religion during flu season, or free speech if such speech is used to question the legitimacy of the last election or the viability of future vaccines, or freedom of the press if Google and Facebook deem what is published contrary to the Democratic Party’s official propaganda, or the rights to assemble and petition the government for a redress of grievances if the government serendipitously discovers that all aggrieved citizens are really “domestic terrorists.” Who knew there were so many “penumbras and emanations” hidden within the First Amendment’s text that its true meaning could actually be diametrically opposed to the plain meaning of its own words? It’s as if the Founding Fathers were so concerned about protecting rights and liberties from the ever-expansive encroachments of government that they spoke in riddles! Over half the country still believes that the last election was stolen from President Trump (Shh! Don’t speak too loudly, citizen.), but the current occupant of the White House (in a foreign setting, one might say “usurper”) is so at home in his new digs that he’s already announced plans to confiscate American firearms and dismantle the Second Amendment because (feverishly shakes Magic 8-Ball) “no amendment is absolute.” Again, what genius of legal reasoning! Here I was under the impression that the Founders were so concerned about later generations misconstruing the Bill of Rights as denying to the people all other rights and powers not enumerated that they specifically wrote the Ninth Amendment to safeguard the public’s sphere of liberty and protect the people from governmental overreach. And yet the legal scholar in the White House has discovered the Founders’ true intent: to make specifically enumerated rights even less protected than the unenumerated ones. Who knew that the right to “keep and bear arms” actually included an invisible parenthetical clause stating, “unless the government should feel threatened”? How myopic I’ve been in thinking that threatening the federal government was the entire point of the Second Amendment, a kind of “break glass in case of emergency” Plan B should the government decide to throw Plan A — adhering to the text of the Constitution — out the window. Thank goodness we have authorities who have no trouble telling us what the Constitution actually authorizes! How can the United States fight authoritarianism while making it domestic policy? At some point, you just throw up your hands and wonder how the American establishment class manages to walk and chew gum without forgetting where it’s going or who it is (no wonder Biden’s been so comfortable in office for fifty years). Sure, we have some seriously sadistic tyrants in our midst who know exactly what they’re doing by poisoning the well of American freedom and reimagining America as Venezuela, where tribal conflict is not just encouraged, but required for the system to propagate. But we also have an awful lot of D.C. dimwits who can’t comprehend the cognitive dissonance of simultaneously vilifying the state of Georgia for ever so slightly securing its elections against voter fraud while applauding the economic miracles of China’s slave labor dictatorship. Politicians, Hollywood stars, and Major League Baseball can all feign indignation, turn their backs on ordinary Georgians living paycheck to paycheck by pulling jobs from the state, and publicly celebrate the false god of “social justice,” but they’ll never give up all that sweet Chinese cash made off the backs of the religious prisoners, intellectual dissidents, and racial undesirables who give China’s manufacturing sector the “comparative advantage” to undersell its global competitors. It takes an outrageous combination of shallow hypocrisy and mendacity to frantically charge half of America with engaging in super-secret, unconscious racism while extolling the world’s largest slaveholding plantation on the other side of the planet. If America’s government and business oligarchs rake in money from racist authoritarians in communist China while peddling racism and authoritarianism at home for political power, can they still give each other awards for being antiracist champions fighting for the common good? Only in America are the “woke” so completely unawake. “Do what I say” government is catnip for the political class. Wisdom and restraint are losing ground. And it’s becoming difficult to see how America can fight authoritarianism abroad while embracing authoritarianism at home. Image: Jeff Turner via Flickr, CC BY 2.0. ‘The Purge’ by Big Tech targets conservatives, including usJust when we thought the Covid-19 lockdowns were ending and our ability to stay afloat was improving, censorship reared its ugly head. For the last few months, NOQ Report has appealed to our readers for assistance in staying afloat through Covid-19 lockdowns. The downturn in the economy has limited our ability to generate proper ad revenue just as our traffic was skyrocketing. We had our first sustained stretch of three months with over a million visitors in November, December, and January, but February saw a dip. It wasn’t just the shortened month. We expected that. We also expected the continuation of dropping traffic from “woke” Big Tech companies like Google, Facebook, and Twitter, but it has actually been much worse than anticipated. Our Twitter account was banned. One of our YouTube accounts was banned and another has been suspended. Facebook “fact-checks” everything we post. Spotify canceled us. Why? Because we believe in the truth prevailing, and that means we will continue to discuss “taboo” topics. The 2020 presidential election was stolen. You can’t say that on Big Tech platforms without risking cancelation, but we’d rather get cancelled for telling the truth rather than staying around to repeat mainstream media’s lies. They have been covering it up since before the election and they’ve convinced the vast majority of conservative news outlets that they will be harmed if they continue to discuss voter fraud. We refuse to back down. The truth is the truth. The lies associated with Covid-19 are only slightly more prevalent than the suppression of valid scientific information that runs counter to the prescribed narrative. We should be allowed to ask questions about the vaccines, for example, as there is ample evidence for concern. One does not have to be an “anti-vaxxer” in order to want answers about vaccines that are still considered experimental and that have a track record in a short period of time of having side-effects. These questions are not allowed on Big Tech which is just another reason we are getting cancelled. There are more topics that they refuse to allow. In turn, we refuse to stop discussing them. This is why we desperately need your help. The best way NOQ Report readers can help is to donate. Our Giving Fuel page makes it easy to donate one-time or monthly. Alternatively, you can donate through PayPal as well. We are on track to be short by about $5300 per month in order to maintain operations. The second way to help is to become a partner. We’ve strongly considered seeking angel investors in the past but because we were paying the bills, it didn’t seem necessary. Now, we’re struggling to pay the bills. We had 5,657,724 sessions on our website from November, 2020, through February, 2021. Our intention is to elevate that to higher levels this year by focusing on a strategy that relies on free speech rather than being beholden to progressive Big Tech companies. During that four-month stretch, Twitter and Facebook accounted for about 20% of our traffic. We are actively working on operating as if that traffic is zero, replacing it with platforms that operate more freely such as Gab, Parler, and others. Things to keep in mind when writing about the Indo-Pacific region
Posted: 16 Apr 2021 04:55 AM PDT POINTERS FOR JOURNALISTSUsually in my articles, I write with decision-makers as the intended rhetorical targets. Occasionally, I just try to provide information that may not be easy to find in the public domain. But, the tragic murder in October 2019 of Rachelle Bergeron, who was an American serving as Acting Attorney General on Yap Island in the Federated States of Micronesia, was picked up by some major news sources in the United States that lack a familiarity with geography in general and this part of the world in particular. Some indeed would have a bit of difficulty even locating Hawaii on a map. YOUR CREDIBILITY IS AT STAKEYou obviously know which of the five boroughs of New York City is which, but most of you probably have never heard of Yap Island or even Micronesia before in your life. You may have gone to Google Maps since nobody uses Atlas books anymore to see if it was somewhere in the Caribbean or perhaps the Mediterranean. But, you need also to keep your audience in mind. If you’re a good writer and you provide accurate information, your reach will be well beyond the eastern seaboard of the USA. If you write an article about Yap Island, expect it to be read by people on Yap Island. Also elsewhere in Micronesia. In Japan and other countries in the Pacific. What seems so vague and foggy in your own mind will be crystal clear to those in proximity, along with those around the world who actually do understand the interconnectivity of global geopolitics. So, we will now look at some basic terminology relevant to this part of the world. EQUATOR“An imaginary line drawn around the earth equally distant from both poles, dividing the earth into northern and southern hemispheres and constituting the parallel of latitude 0°.” INTERNATIONAL DATE LINE“The international date line is defined as an imaginary line that goes north and south through the Pacific Ocean; one day is on the east side of the line and the following day is on the west side.” SIGNIFICANCEThe coordinates of the location where the Equator and International Date Line intersect is at 0° latitude, 180° longitude. The International Date Line however has been redrawn in some places for political reasons. We’ll save the details of that for another discussion. Everything above the Equator on the map is at North Latitude. All that lies below the Equator is at South Latitude. Therefore, Yap Island which is at about 9° N Lat is properly described as being in the North Pacific, not the South Pacific as many articles inaccurately state. The International Date Line divides the Western Pacific from the Eastern Pacific. Hawaii is north of the Equator and east of the International Date Line. It can also very accurately be stated that the Federated States of Micronesia, including Yap Island, are in the Far Western Pacific. Degrees of longitude are indicated as E Long to the west of the International Date Line and W Long to the east of the International Date Line. Yes, that is confusing and sounds paradoxical. It is literally where East Meets West. From North America, you go west across the Pacific to reach the Far East. The Western Pacific is near Asia and Australia, whereas the Eastern Pacific extends to Latin America. TRYING TO SIMPLIFY AN ESOTERIC TOPICGeography on Planet Earth is probably the second most mind-boggling thing to grasp. The hardest has to do with astronomy and the relative relationships of the Earth, Moon and Sun and the impact which that makes. An otherwise educated and intelligent man with whom I once spoke absolutely could not comprehend that any two locations on Earth could be more than 12 hours time difference apart. I had just told him that it was a 15-hour time difference between California and the Philippines as we boarded our flight. In what I call relative time, the Philippines is 9 hours earlier than the time in California [during DST], but because it is across the International Date Line, the actual time is 15 hours later. Got that? New Zealand [when they are on DST] is just one hour earlier than Hawaii but it’s really 23 hours later because it’s tomorrow there. Ok, enough of that, but I wanted just to demonstrate the significance of the International Date Line beyond mere terminology. WHERE ARE THE TROPICS?Keep in mind that the Equator, the International Date Line, parallels of latitude and meridians of longitude are only human constructs. They exist only on maps and in our minds. There is absolutely nothing physical on the surface of the planet marking their locations unless we put one there, which would be kind of hard to do in the Pacific Ocean by the way. Tropic of Cancer“The Tropic of Cancer is the circle marking the latitude 23.5 degrees north, where the sun is directly overhead at noon on June 21, the beginning of summer in the northern hemisphere.” Tropic of Capricorn“The Tropic of Capricorn is the circle marking the latitude 23.5 degrees south where the sun is directly overhead at noon on December 21, the beginning of winter in the northern hemisphere.” These are the northernmost and southernmost points on Earth where the sun’s rays can be directly overhead at local noon. Honolulu is at 21° N Lat within the tropics. Key West, Florida is at about 24.5° N Lat just outside the tropics. ARCTIC AND ANTARCTIC CIRCLESRemember when it comes to longitude, there are only 180° in each direction from the Prime Meridian which runs through Greenwich, England. Due to the unique shape of the Earth, there are only 90° of latitude in each direction. The Arctic and Antarctic Circles are at 66.5° respectively. If you stand bundled up at the North Pole, every direction is south. At the South Pole, every direction is north. After this basic background in World Geography, let’s look at some specific terminology that you need to know here in the Pacific Basin. NORTH PACIFICThe Pacific Ocean north of the Equator. SOUTH PACIFICThe Pacific Ocean south of the Equator. WESTERN PACIFICThe Pacific Ocean west of the International Date Line. EASTERN PACIFICThe Pacific Ocean east of the International Date Line. HEMISPHERESYou can substitute the word Hemisphere for Pacific in the terms above to refer to regions of the Earth beyond the Pacific. The majority of world maps are Atlantic-centric with the Atlantic Ocean in the middle and the Western Hemisphere to the left and the Eastern Hemisphere to the right. But you can also obtain Pacific-centric maps. I personally much prefer the latter. EXAMPLESThe nation of Kiribati [pronounced Kiri•bas] lies directly at the intersection of the Equator and the International Date Line and therefore is the only country on Earth in all four Hemispheres. I suppose one can technically break it down into Quadraspheres, but that is virtually never done in my experience. Depending upon your frame of reference, it’s usually either East or West or it is North or South rather than Northwest, Northeast, Southwest or Southeast. PRACTICAL TERMINOLOGYHawaii is in the North Pacific. That’s the best way to refer to it. As for Yap Island in the example above, I would suggest that the best way to refer to its location is in the Far Western Pacific. OCEANIA“Oceania is a region made up of thousands of islands throughout the Central and South Pacific Ocean. It includes Australia, the smallest continent in terms of total land area. … Oceania also includes three island regions: Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia (including the U.S. state of Hawaii).” So then, for practical purposes Oceania would refer to all the island nations and territories of the Pacific Basin collectively, though it more specifically refers to those in the South Pacific. You would not want to include Japan or Taiwan in that category. The Philippines is the boundary between the Pacific and Southeast Asia. POLYNESIA, MICRONESIA AND MELANESIAThese are the three ethno-linguistic and cultural regions of the Pacific. I would recommend that those not fully versed in the cultural anthropology of this region to just try to avoid using those terms. But one important caveat, please do distinguish between Micronesia as a region and the Federated States of Micronesia which is a sovereign nation, to be discussed more below. Also, please note that French Polynesia is part of France and does not comprise the entirety of the Polynesian region. INDEPENDENT NATIONS DISTINGUISHED FROM TERRITORIESIt would be prohibitive and way beyond our scope to go into the status of each and every island in the Pacific. There are territories of the United States, New Zealand, Australia and France. Even Australia is part of the British Commonwealth and recognizes Queen Elizabeth as the Head of State, but I don’t want to open that can of worms here. AMERICAN SAMOAFirst of all, exercise due caution to carefully distinguish between the United States territory of American Samoa with capital at Pago Pago and the independent nation of Samoa [previously known as Western Samoa] with capital at Apia. One interesting note considering our previous discussion of the International Date Line is that American Samoa is one hour earlier than Hawaii on this side of the International Date Line. Independent Samoa was also in the same time-zone but a few years ago chose to jump over to the other side and move things up a day. Nope, the island is still in the same place and didn’t move one inch. They just redrew the International Date Line between Samoa and American Samoa. American Samoa is south of the Equator and therefore is accurately described as being in the South Pacific. Our other current territories in the Pacific are north of the Equator and west of the International Date Line. You can describe them as being in the North Pacific but, as I said, it is far more descriptive to say Far Western Pacific. GUAMThe Commonwealth of Guam is a current United States territory in the Mariana Islands. It is at about 13° N Lat. CNMIThe Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands was previously part of the United States Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands [TTPI]. When given a choice, it opted to become a United States Territory and Insular Possession similar to Guam. The islands in CNMI that you will hear most about are Saipan, Tinian and Rota. Due to their being in a narrow band above the Equator, Guam and CNMI have a lot of typhoons. Hurricanes that approach Hawaii are less frequent and originate normally off the coast of Baja California in Mexico. The outer and less inhabited islands of CNMI stretch northwest in the direction of Japan and the World War II battleground of Iwo Jima. The Mariana Trench, about 125 miles east of the Marianas goes down about 7 miles, the deepest in the world. TYPHOONS, HURRICANES AND CYCLONESThese are all the same kind of storm but in the Western Hemisphere, we call them hurricanes, whereas in the Eastern Hemisphere they are known as typhoons. Cyclones occur south of the Equator. FORMER U.S. TERRITORIESWhereas CNMI chose to become a United States territory, other islands made a different decision and now comprise three separate sovereign nations, all with their own Compact of Free Association with their former colonizing power. Remember once again that all of these former territories ~ as well as Guam and CNMI ~ are part of the Micronesian Region of the Pacific Basin. But only one of them has the word Micronesia in its name. FEDERATED STATES OF MICRONESIAFSM consists of four states which are, from east to west, Kosrae, Pohnpei [where the national capital Palikir is located], Chuuk [Truk] and Yap. PALAUPalau chose not to join as part of FSM and is now an independent nation all its own. REPUBLIC OF THE MARSHALL ISLANDSMajuro is the capital of RMI. This nation consists of small atolls barely above sea level. UNINCORPORATED PACIFIC ISLANDS OWNED BY THE UNITED STATESI have discussed some of these in the past and we’ll talk about others more in the future. But for recognition purposes, you should know that America controls these small specks of land in the Pacific Ocean. Some are uninhabited unless a yacht happens to dock there. Wake Island is in a special category as a current focus of United States missile defense primarily against North Korea. It is also claimed by the Marshall Islands. Without elaboration, here are some Pacific Islands that you should be familiar with under U.S. jurisdiction:
*Renewed searches are underway to try to find where Aviatrix Amelia Earhart went down in 1937. You will possibly hear these remote and desolate places collectively referred to as the United States Minor Outlying Islands, which also include Navassa Island in the Caribbean. WAY TOO MUCH TO ABSORB?I know, but I’m not going to give you a pop quiz on this. Nobody expects you to have all of this on the tip of your tongue or at your fingertips. But when you write articles about the Pacific, please try very hard to use the correct terminology. You may think nobody will notice and perhaps nobody back east in the Tri-State area where you live will notice. Unless they’re originally from out here. But people in the Pacific will most definitely realize that you are not familiar with the subject that you’re discussing. So you may just want to bookmark this as a handy reference. The Pacific Theater is becoming more and more crucial in the need for American re-engagement. Every schoolboy and schoolgirl in Beijing and Shanghai know far more about America’s interests in the Pacific than you or many of our leaders inside the DC Beltway do. A GENTLE NUDGE TO YOUR JOURNALISTIC PRIORITIESI am writing to try to correct that imbalance and I hope you will join me in this effort. You will be much more effective if you study the Pacific geography now rather than just wait until you hear what China did in someplace you never heard of before. Yap island is not Manhattan but what happens there will inevitably and inexorably reach you eventually. Xi Jinping will give you a very rude awakening sometime soon. I bet you never heard of Tora Bora, Afghanistan before 2001. But, what goes on halfway around the world doesn’t always stay there. From my NOQ Report article of October 31, 2019 ‘The Purge’ by Big Tech targets conservatives, including usJust when we thought the Covid-19 lockdowns were ending and our ability to stay afloat was improving, censorship reared its ugly head. While we were never as dependent on Big Tech as most conservative sites, we’d like to be completely free from them. That doesn’t mean we will block them, but we refuse to be beholden to companies that absolutely despise us simply because of our political ideology. We’re heading in the right direction and we believe we’re ready talk to patriotic investors who want to not only “get in on the action” but more importantly who want to help America hear the truth. Fearmongering goes nuclear: ‘We’re in brand-new pandemic’
Posted: 16 Apr 2021 04:38 AM PDT STORY AT-A-GLANCE
In some areas of the world, including Florida, where I live, life has been fairly normal for almost a full year. Restaurants opened last April, and people have flocked here from out of state and even from other countries to enjoy the fresh air and open businesses. This clearly does not benefit the globalists’ agenda, so, right on cue, fearmongering is ramping up another notch. The latest fear du jour is a “double-mutation” of SARS-CoV-2, said to target younger people. April 5, 2021, the New York Post1 reported the “double mutant” COVID-19 strain has been detected in California — a state that has experienced some of the longest and most restrictive pandemic measures in the U.S. At the time of that report, one case of the variant had been confirmed by a Stanford laboratory. Seven suspected cases were still being screened. Fear Du Jour: Vaccine-Evading VariantsThe double-mutation virus allegedly has two mutations previously found in two separate variants, which “help it latch onto cells,” the New York Post writes.2 What they want you to fear now is that this new variant may be more resistant to vaccine antibodies. Younger people might also be more susceptible to it.3 According to the Observer,4 “COVID-19 variants could beat vaccines within a year if pharma policy doesn’t change.” In other words, they claim that unless sufficiently high numbers of the global population are vaccinated within nine to 12 months, the virus might mutate to evade first-generation vaccines, rendering them useless. Oklahoma has also confirmed the presence of variants — one that initially emerged in the U.K., and another that emerged in Brazil. According to The Oklahoman,5 “The faster people can get vaccinated, the slower the virus will spread and fewer people will be exposed to variant strains of the virus, said Dr. Dale Bratzler, the University of Oklahoma’s chief COVID officer.” In other words, they’re putting everyone’s feet to the fire. Hurry, hurry. Get the vaccine now. If you wait, it’s going to be your fault that the vaccine fails and everyone dies. CNN6 also warns that, unless Americans “double down on safety measures until more people are vaccinated,” more contagious variants will spread like wildfire. According to CNN, the variant known as B.1.1.7 “is changing the pandemic’s playbook and could spell trouble for younger groups that haven’t yet been vaccinated.” ‘We’re in a Brand-New Pandemic’Dr. Peter Hotez went so far as to state that B.1.1.7 should be thought of as a “brand-new virus” that is “acting differently from anything we’ve seen before.”7 This “we’re in a brand-new pandemic” narrative is also being parroted by Michael Osterholm, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota.8 Osterholm, however, claims that current vaccines are, in fact, effective against the B.1.1.7 variant. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention director Dr. Rochelle Walensky, clusters of positive cases among young people have been “connected to participation in youth sports and extracurricular activities.” As a result, the CDC is now suggesting that such activities should be limited, CNN reports.9 If you’ve got the creeping suspicion that we’re about to face another round of lockdowns around the U.S., your spidey senses are probably working just fine. In a recent interview, Osterholm said:10 “There isn’t a country in the world right now that has seen a big increase of this B117 that is not locking down. We’re the exception. And so the bottom line message from all of these countries is, ‘we could not control this virus until we did lock down.’ We have to do a better job of helping the public understand that this is short term. All we’re trying to do is get through this surge of cases that are going to occur over the next six to eight to 10 weeks because of this B117 variant.” Where, oh where, have we heard that before? “It’s going to be a short-term lockdown, just a couple of weeks to flatten the curve and ensure a functioning hospital system.” Right. Those short-term measures ended up lasting many months in many places, even though hospitals were at no risk of being overrun. We now have a year’s-worth of data showing that lockdowns simply do not work. They cause far more harm than good. Yet they’re trying to sell us the same non-solution using the same justification once more. As the old saying goes, “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.” Dissenting Is Now Domestic TerrorismThe problem we now face is that logical thinking is being vilified. According to pediatrician and California state senator Dr. Richard Pan, people who criticize the COVID-19 vaccine ought to be labeled as domestic terrorists. In an opinion piece in The Washington Post, he writes:11 “Vaccines don’t stop viruses. Vaccinations do. This common public health saying means a vaccine does no good if we can’t get it into people’s arms … but the overall goal of vaccinating a large majority of the U.S. population may ultimately be hampered by the anti-vaccine movement unless steps are taken to limit its impact … [T]o poison public opinion against vaccinations, could result in countless American deaths. That is akin to domestic terrorism … Some anti-vaccine leaders’ financial well-being depends on endangering everyone else’s health and safety. Social media companies should not be complicit in this dangerous movement … Getting vaccinated is a patriotic act. So is speaking up to support public health efforts.” With that manipulative and hostile diatribe against law-abiding citizens, Pan secures a lead role in the medical fascism directorate that is spreading faster than the virus. He even stresses that local and public health officials, not politicians, should be relied upon to lead us to safety. In other words, he’s promoting iatrarchy — meaning government by physicians — which as Robert F. Kennedy Jr. points out has been catastrophic in every instance that it’s been tried. In his foreword to my new book, “The Truth About COVID-19,” Kennedy notes: “The medical profession has not proven itself an energetic defender of democratic institutions or civil rights. Virtually every doctor in Germany took lead roles in the Third Reich’s project to eliminate mental defectives, homosexuals, handicapped citizens and Jews. So many hundreds of German physicians participated in Hitler’s worst atrocities — including managing mass murder and unspeakable experiments at the death camps — that the allies had to stage separate “Medical Trials” at Nuremberg. Not a single prominent German doctor or medical association raised their voice in opposition to these projects. So it’s unsurprising that, instead of demanding blue-ribbon safety science and encouraging honest, open and responsible debate on the science, the badly compromised and newly empowered government health officials charged with managing the COVID-19 pandemic response collaborated with mainstream and social media to shut down discussion on key public health and civil rights questions.” War on ‘Disinformation’ Is Really War on DissentHaving a frank and open discussion about pros and cons, risks and benefits of vaccination or any other pandemic measure is more likely to result in optimal public health than shoving just one side of the argument down everyone’s throat. But optimal public health is not what the technocratic, globalist elite are after. Their end goal is to manipulate the masses into obedience so that they can acquire even more of their assets. As noted by Ash Staub in his article12 “The War on Disinformation Is a War on Dissent,” the terms “disinformation” and “misinformation” are simply used “to excuse incompetence and punish opposition.” He provides a number of examples proving that “theories or facts that don’t fit the official narrative, despite being true, are treated as misinformation or disinformation.” I would add that this is particularly true when it comes to health information, seeing how it’s virtually impossible to find a single remedy or strategy that works 100% for every single person. There are no absolute truths in medicine. It all depends. Many individual factors come into play. Staub continues: “Whereas misinformation merely refers to inaccurate or misleading information, the label of disinformation implies an intent to deceive. Both have served as the source of much consternation and hand-wringing from media figures and politicians alike … While our inability as a society to agree on basic facts is certainly a problem, what should be self-evident is that misinformation and disinformation naturally abound when there is very little trust in sense-making institutions. If the information sources that are deemed ‘authoritative’ are so often wrong or misleading, and inspire little public confidence, is it any wonder that people turn to alternatives? Misinformation and disinformation are natural consequences of our public institutions’ inconsistency and incompetence.” Most Americans Think Government Officials Are LyingAccording to Staub, 69% of Americans “believe their government intentionally lies to them,” and 61% “believe the news media deliberately ignores certain stories or information.” These are record-low rates of confidence, and government and media would do well to take notice of the fact that censorship only erodes trust, it does not build it. The fact that they turn to censorship rather than trying to be more forthright suggests they are in fact lying and have no intention of stopping. Since they refuse to tell the truth, the only option they have is to silence counter-narratives in the hope that, over time, objections will die out for lack of support. The problem is, truth has an appeal of its own, and so, in what appears to be a desperate effort to maintain control, “disinformation” is now being called out as “dangerous,” indeed a form of “domestic terrorism,” because if people listen to “bad” information, they might make decisions that will harm them. Basically, they’re saying that you’re too stupid to think for yourself. You’ll buy whatever you’re sold, no questions asked, and so they have to make sure you’re exposed only to information that will benefit you. Everyone on the planet ought to be insulted by censoring, because, ultimately, it’s a sign that government and media have zero trust in your ability to make decisions for yourself. “Just last month, former NSA general counsel Glenn Gerstell called for an ‘integrated disinformation center within the federal government’ that would employ ‘counterterrorism’ tactics to combat disinformation. It’s not exactly clear what these counterterrorism tactics would entail, but the idea that institutions that so often lie to the public should be able to decide what is and what is not ‘disinformation,’ with the help of a surveillance apparatus designed to combat terrorism, is truly unnerving,” Staub writes. “When the only acceptable information is that approved by the ruling administration, there can be no meaningful check on state power. Consent for the establishment agenda can easily be manufactured, and opposition can simply be deemed ‘disinformation’ and treated as ‘dangerous,’ deserving of censorship and removal. With a silenced opposition, power can therefore be exercised with impunity.” Understanding the Plan Robs Their PowerIn a nutshell, authoritarians are taking extreme steps to control the public discourse because they know we don’t trust them. What’s more, they also realize that if people understand the grand plan, their power over the people will be stripped away. The public can only be controlled as long as we don’t understand what they’re trying to accomplish. So, what are they trying to accomplish? As detailed in many previous articles, it boils down to the global implementation of a new economic system based on technocratic ideology, that will so radically transform and dehumanize society that they simply cannot “sell” it with honesty. The vast majority would be horrified and refuse to go along with it. Their only option is to sneak it in under the guise of something else. Right now, that something else is the so-called COVID-19 pandemic. Under the pretext of public health safety, we’re told we need censorship, lockdowns, social distancing, mask wearing, new domestic terrorism laws and vaccine passports. We need none of those things in order to optimize public health. Those things, however, are necessary for the swift and easeful implementation of the Great Reset. Supreme Court Justice Speaks Out Against CensorshipNeedless to say, without Big Tech monopolies aiding and abetting, the current level of censorship simply could not occur. The good news is, we may slowly be inching toward a solution. As noted by The Federalist,13 “Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas offered a roadmap to eliminating rampant social media censorship from online monopolies on Monday.” They’re referring to an April 5, 2021, ruling14 for writ of certiorari on the case of President Joe Biden v. Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University, in which Thomas weighed in on the ability of social media giants to control free speech. The Federalist explains:15 “Thomas concurred in an opinion to send the case back to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit with instructions to dismiss as moot, now that Biden is in the White House. The case, launched in August, questions whether the First Amendment strips government officials of their ability to block third-party accounts on Twitter if the personal account is used to conduct official business. The lower court ruled Trump violated the First Amendment when blocking users on the platform, which served as a public forum.” However, while then-President Trump was found to have violated free speech rights by blocking certain Twitter followers, Twitter faced no repercussions when it deleted Trump’s account in its entirety, thereby violating the First Amendment rights of 89 million people, which is the number of followers he had when the account was taken down. As noted by Thomas:16 “It seems rather odd to say that something is a government forum when a private company has unrestricted authority to do away with it. The disparity between Twitter’s control and Mr. Trump’s control is stark, to say the least.” Immunity Without Corresponding ResponsibilityThomas highlights the monopoly power of Big Tech, stressing that when a company has unilateral control over a public forum, it ceases to be a public forum. The solution, then, might be to turn them into public utilities, which aren’t allowed to discriminate against any customer. “Today’s digital platforms provide avenues for historically unprecedented amounts of speech, including speech by government actors. Also unprecedented, however, is the concentrated control of so much speech in the hands of a few private parties,” Thomas writes. “We will soon have no choice but to address how our legal doctrines apply to highly concentrated, privately owned information infrastructure such as digital platforms … It changes nothing that these platforms are not the sole means for distributing speech or information. A person always could choose to avoid the toll bridge or train and instead swim the Charles River or hike the Oregon Trail. But in assessing whether a company exercises substantial market power, what matters is whether the alternatives are comparable. For many of today’s digital platforms, nothing is. If the analogy between common carriers and digital platforms is correct, then an answer may arise for dissatisfied platform users who would appreciate not being blocked: laws that restrict the platform’s right to exclude. When a platform’s unilateral control is reduced, a government official’s account begins to better resemble a ‘government-controlled spac[e]’ … This analysis may help explain the Second Circuit’s intuition that part of Mr. Trump’s Twitter account was a public forum. But that intuition has problems. First, if market power is a predicate for common carriers (as some scholars suggest), nothing in the record evaluates Twitter’s market power. Second, and more problematic, neither the Second Circuit nor respondents have identified any regulation that restricts Twitter from removing an account that would otherwise be a ‘government-controlled space.’ Even if digital platforms are not close enough to common carriers, legislatures might still be able to treat digital platforms like places of public accommodation … ‘[I]t stands to reason that if Congress may demand that telephone companies operate as common carriers, it can ask the same of’ digital platforms. Turner, 512 U. S., at 684 (opinion of O’Connor, J.). That is especially true because the space constraints on digital platforms are practically nonexistent (unlike on cable companies), so a regulation restricting a digital platform’s right to exclude might not appreciably impede the platform from speaking … Yet Congress does not appear to have passed these kinds of regulations. To the contrary, it has given digital platforms ‘immunity from certain types of suits’ … with respect to content they distribute, 47 U. S. C. §230, but it has not imposed corresponding responsibilities, like nondiscrimination, that would matter here. None of this analysis means, however, that the First Amendment is irrelevant until a legislature imposes common carrier or public accommodation restrictions — only that the principal means for regulating digital platforms is through those methods.” Thomas Confirms Illegality of Government-Sponsored CensorshipThomas makes another very important point in his statement. He points out that while private entities are “not ordinarily constrained by the First Amendment,” they are indeed so constrained “if the government coerces or induces it to take action the government itself would not be permitted to do, such as censor expression of a lawful viewpoint.” In other words, a private company has the right to decide what the kinds of speech it will allow and which it will not, BUT, if government officials demand that they censor an otherwise lawful viewpoint on their behalf, then that company is liable for having violated the First Amendment. This is pertinent right now, as elected officials are getting ever more belligerent in their demands that social media platforms censor certain kinds of speech, such as “anti-vaccine” material. As detailed in “Free Speech Threatened by Censorship Extremists,” what they’re doing is illegal, yet they’re doing it anyway. As noted by Thomas:

David Rubin says Americans need to oppose BLM rhetoric and support the traditional family
Posted: 16 Apr 2021 02:59 AM PDT
Americans can learn a lot about how to handle today’s challenges by looking at how Israel has handled theirs throughout history. They haven’t done everything perfectly, but they’ve stayed true to their core values, including the need for a strong, traditional family to be the core of their existence. We recently had the honor of sitting down with David Rubin. He has lived in both the United States and Israel and has a unique perspective on the ways both countries can learn from the lessons of the other. He joined JD on the latest episode of NOQ Report. Rubin, former Mayor of Shiloh Israel, is the author of seven books including his latest, Confronting Radicals: What America Can Learn From Israel. Rubin is the founder and president of Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund, established after he and his then three-year-old son were wounded in a terror attack. He can also be found on his website. One of the most important pieces of advice he gave is to fight the rhetoric coming from Black Lives Matter and other radical leftist groups as they continue to attack the traditional family structure. The organization recently scrubbed calls to abolish the “nuclear family” so as not to draw so much heat for their Neo-Marxist ideology. The irony is that Black lives, which they claim to cherish, are far better protected by those who engage in proper family structures. The absence of fathers in African-American households has been widely cited as one of the reasons for increase violence and criminal activity. Mr. Rubin also gave his perspectives on the Israeli elections. Unlike the U.S. elections in which the two sides often fight without compromise, the Israeli election structure demands coalitions to be formed between multiple political parties in order to create their parliamentary government. At least 61 of the 120 Knesset Members need to agree on a Prime Minister in order to form a government. If they cannot, as has been the case for four elections, then a new election comes a few months later. The sabotage of Iran’s largest nuclear facility this week was also a hot topic for Rubin to discuss. He said the need to keep a nuclear Iran from becoming a reality is an existential issue for Israel. They are not part of the so-called “Iran Nuclear Deal” and therefore are not required to allow Iran to advance their nuclear ambitions. As long as we forget the lessons taught in the Bible and throughout history about the importance of the traditional family structure, we will never be able to overcome the false narrative pushed forth by Black Lives Matter. Was Johnson & Johnson shafted by the FDA?
Posted: 16 Apr 2021 02:37 AM PDT In a move much like the European nations who halted the distribution of the Astra-Zeneca vaccine, the Food and Drug Administration called for an immediate halt to the rollout of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. This came after it was reported that six women between the ages of 18 and 48 reported blood clots and one died, after taking the vaccine. The move is odd. General reactions from social media are memes about the J&J vaccine’s supposed inferiority and skepticism of what is really going on with this particular vaccine. Many believe that there may be a coverup at works. While this may be true, a baser motivation may provide a better explanation for these events. The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is reported to have had six cases of thrombosis (blood clots), according to CDC data provided through the Vaccine Adverse Effect Reporting System (VAERS). This is the same amount as is being reported in association with the FDA’s announcement. The problem is both ModeRNA and Pfizer have far more reported cases of thrombosis. Currently the total is 111 reported cases of thrombosis in America with the vaccine, per VAERS data. It’s becomes reasonable to speculate that blood clots are not the real reason that the FDA has turned on this particular vaccine. 64 cases have been reported in association with the Pfizer vaccine and 41 cases have been reported with ModeRNA, though these cases on average seem more severe than that of Pfizer. It’s not about safetyWhat’s clear is that there is an ulterior motive behind the Federal government’s change of heart. In total, Johnson & Johnson have vaccinated over 7.2 million people. Their vaccine only requires one dose and is probably has the most honest advertisement of any vaccine. My own preliminary review of the VAERS data would seem to indicate that Johnson and Johnson produced the safest vaccine of the three companies and ModeRNA produced the deadliest cocktail. Total depravity is always at play. While Johnson & Johnson is no angel, they are stepping to a major player in Pfizer, the most well-known Big Pharma corporation. It is far more likely the government is picking winners and losers with regards to the vaccine than caring for the health and safety of its citizens. The federal government has acted in the interest of Big Pharma over science. After all inexpensive treatment options for COVID-19 were discouraged in favor of the vaccine, ventilators, and Remdesivir. Given the lack of data to support the FDA’s guidance and its history of corruption, Occam’s Razor would indicate crony capitalism is at play. Meet Kimberly Gardner, the rogue prosecutor whose policies are wreaking havoc in St. Louis
Posted: 16 Apr 2021 02:12 AM PDT Kimberly Gardner, the beleaguered rogue prosecutor (called the “circuit attorney”) for the city of St. Louis, Missouri, has made a national name for herself. Article by Zack Smith and Cully Stimson from Daily Signal. Unfortunately, as we demonstrate below, her national reputation comes from her radical pro-criminal, anti-victim policies and a series of high-profile missteps she has made. Like many other rogue prosecutors around the country, she was swept into office by winning her 2016 election with a wave of money from George Soros and tech billionaire-funded entities, who again contributed heavily to help her win reelection in 2020. >>> This commentary is part of a series on the rogue prosecutors around the country backed by liberal billionaires such as George Soros and Cari Tuna, and the threat those prosecutors pose to crime victims and others. Previous entries focused on prosecutors in Baltimore (as well as investigations of possible misconduct), Philadelphia, Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles, Fairfax County, Virginia, and potential U.S. attorneys in the Biden administration. <<< As a recent “60 Minutes” piece put it, “She went right to work. She stopped locking up non-violent offenders, dropped low level drug cases and ended cash bail … .” So how are her “reforms” going? Gardner Prosecutes Fewer Cases as Homicides SurgeWell, in 2020, the city of St. Louis suffered through 264 homicides. That’s a 36.1% increase from the previous year and only three homicides shy of the highest total in the city’s history, which topped out at 267 in 1993. But on a per capita basis, last year’s murder rate was significantly higher because the city of St. Louis today has about 87,000 fewer residents than it did in 1993—meaning that the per capita murder rate in 1993 was 69 per 100,000 residents while in 2020 it was 87 murders per 100,000 residents. That’s the highest per capita murder rate on record for the city in over 50 years. And, unfortunately, it looks set to head even higher in 2021. As one local television station put it, “So far, there have been 50 homicides in the city of St. Louis for 2021,” meaning that the “homicide pace in 2021 is ahead of last year’s pace.” Sadly, eight of those homicides happened in the first week of April alone. As a City Journal article from last year said, “With a situation this grim, the city desperately needs competent and determined crime-fighters, but St. Louis Circuit Attorney (chief prosecutor) Kimberly Gardner remains focused not on law and order but on social justice—and on bizarre self-aggrandizement.” Her office is charging fewer felonies, which she says harkens back to her “platform to reduce the number of cases unnecessarily charged in order to focus on the more difficult cases for trial.” Her counterpart in Chicago, Kim Foxx, has said the same thing. And like Foxx, whom the Chicago Tribune found was actually losing a higher percentage of her cases than her predecessor, the same holds true for Gardner. The numbers tell a troubling tale. An investigation by a local television station “showed that in 2018, prosecutors got guilty verdicts in just 51% of cases. In 2019, the trial conviction rate was 54%.” Gardner’s office loses almost half the cases it takes to trial. According to the news station, “historical data … showed the Circuit Attorney’s Office used to achieve guilty verdicts in approximately 72% of trials, on average.” But it’s no wonder the conviction rate has plummeted so dramatically under Gardner’s watch. During her tenure, there has been more than 100% turnover in the prosecutor’s office. According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the effect “is a state of dysfunction, low morale and dearth of legal wisdom necessary to safeguard the public from potentially dangerous criminals.” A local criminal defense attorney (yes, that’s right, a defense attorney) said, “I’m a city resident and it’s scary … There’s no assurance that if you’re a victim of crime, that you or your cases are going to be treated well. I just feel like the prosecutors’ office is just a mess.” Unfortunately, as we have previously written, that’s emblematic of the rogue prosecutor movement generally. And like Marilyn Mosby, Baltimore’s rogue prosecutor, who has drawn criticism for her activist-sponsored travel while violent crime soars in her city, Gardner has faced the same criticism. Gardner Jets Around on Improperly Disclosed TripsQuestions arose about whether Gardner properly disclosed her activist-sponsored travel—much of which was sponsored and paid for by Fair and Just Prosecution, which advocates pro-criminal, anti-victim policies—dressed up as “reforms”—around the country. According to News 4 in St. Louis, Gardner “has often been gone from her office a couple of times every month, jetting around on someone else’s dime.” Some of the people interviewed for that report said “that decisions delayed or made difficult by Gardner’s travel were related to budgets, grants and personnel issues like hiring and firing.” Remember that high turnover rate? Those sources also told News 4 that “Gardner’s traveling was prolific and problematic … [and that] she was unreachable on trips, making it difficult to get decisions made.” Since taking office, she has travelled to New York; Chicago; Seattle; Philadelphia; Cleveland; Atlanta; Washington, D.C.; New Haven, Connecticut; Selma, Alabama; and even outside the United States to Portugal, although it’s unclear exactly how exactly many trips she’s been on since it is unclear that she’s been properly reporting her trips. As the saying goes, birds of a feather flock together. Gardner has been on these boondoggles just like fellow traveler Mosby, who also has gotten into hot water for her trips, as we wrote about here. And this wouldn’t be the first time that Gardner has run afoul of campaign reporting requirements. In 2019, the Missouri Ethics Commission fined Gardner and her campaign $63,0009 for campaign finance and reporting violations. However, it agreed to stay all but $6,314 (approximately 10%) of the fine, if she abided by all campaign finance rules and regulations for a two-year period after the January 2019 order. News flash: It appears she didn’t. Then there’s her contentious relationship with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department and the bizarre behavior mentioned earlier. This gets messy, so hold on. Gardner’s Probe of Governor Raises Serious QuestionsIn late 2017 and early 2018, it was revealed that then-Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens had engaged in an extramarital affair and allegedly had taken a photo of his mistress without her consent. Gardner opened a probe and eventually obtained an indictment against Greitens for invasion of privacy. She also opened another probe for alleged campaign finance violations by Greitens—which is especially rich considering her own history with such violations. Nevertheless, concerns about Gardner’s handling of the case immediately began to emerge. For starters, she attended an initial meeting with the potential victim without anyone else from her office, such as an investigator or a police officer, being present. That’s a mistake, because as any rookie prosecutor would tell you, if any questions come up about what was said or done at that meeting, the prosecutor risks becoming a witness in her own case. And guess what happened? Just that. Greitens’ defense team raised questions about what Gardner had promised to the alleged victim, and a judge ordered her to testify about what was said in the meeting. Rather than testifying under oath, Gardner dismissed the charges. When Greitens later resigned from office, she also dropped the campaign finance investigation. But that’s not the end of the story. Rather than using police officers to investigate the claims against Greitens, as is the usual protocol, Gardner’s office hired an outside private investigator to work the case. Greitens’ defense team deposed him about his work on the case and accused him of lying under oath during his deposition. A Missouri judge appointed a special prosecutor to investigate, and the special prosecutor presented the case to a grand jury, which indicted the private investigator on six counts of perjury for statements he made during the deposition, plus an additional count of tampering with physical evidence. The whole thing is troubling, but here’s where it gets particularly problematic for Gardner: As St. Louis Magazine reports, “Gardner sat by his side that day … [and] didn’t correct his testimony.” Were his false statements things she couldn’t have known about? Unlikely, because as that same magazine article reports, one of the questions the defense team asked him was “whether he’d received any information from the circuit attorney before interacting with [the alleged victim].” He said, no, “[y]et in reality, the grand jury alleged, Gardner had sent him six pages of notes, plus they’d spoken for five hours on the phone, exchanged more than 100 texts, and even met in person in Louisiana.” Once the deposition resumed after a lunch break, the defense team asked if he “had been in contact with Gardner during the break.” He said, “Not at all.” As the same article again reports, “In reality, the indictment alleges, they had spoken at least seven times on the phone for a total of 34 minutes.” Gardner argued that she didn’t have an affirmative duty to correct the statements because the private investigator wasn’t technically her client. Really? Is that the standard we want from our elected prosecutors (or any prosecutor, for that matter)? And would a similar tactic have landed a police officer on her office’s exclusion list, which bans those officers from bringing cases or warrant requests to her office because of concerns about their credibility and integrity? It certainly seems possible, if not probable. And we bet it would have. Gardner’s Dubious Lawsuit Alleges Racially Motivated ConspiracyBut there’s more. Rather than admitting her apparent errors, Gardner filed a federal lawsuit against the city of St. Louis, local police unions, and the special prosecutor investigating the perjury allegations, among others. Her complaint alleged violations of the Ku Klux Klan Act, claiming that their conduct amounted to a “racially motivated conspiracy to deny the civil rights of racial minorities.” In September 2020, an Obama-appointed federal judge dismissed her lawsuit and said that “[h]er 32-page complaint can best be described as a conglomeration of unrelated claims and conclusory statements supported by very few facts, which do not plead any recognizable cause of action.” He went on to say that “[h]er complaint is nothing more than a compilation of personal slights—none of which rise to a legal cause of action.” Those are strong words, especially coming from a federal judge. Gardner Refuses to Comply With Missouri’s FOIA LawThen there’s Gardner’s apparent defiance of a court order in litigation brought by a reporter under Missouri’s Sunshine Law, which is its state-level Freedom of Information Act law. The reporter wanted information about whom Gardner and her office had communicated with prior to and during her investigations of Greitens. When the reporter didn’t receive the information, he filed a lawsuit and obtained a default judgment because Gardner’s office refused to respond. The judge in the case didn’t mince words. The fact that Gardner’s office had been given an extra 30 days to respond but failed to do so surely contributed to his criticism of Gardner for her “reckless, dilatory and intentional refusal to timely file a responsive pleading.” Later that year, when Gardner’s office tried to walk back her previous failure to comply, the judge again made clear that “this didn’t just happen once. This is consistent behavior,” and that he thought that Gardner and her office were “attempting to obfuscate this process.” Judge Disqualifies Gardner, Citing ‘Prosecution for Political Purposes’And then there’s Gardner’s mishandling of the Mark and Patricia McCloskey cases. Who can forget the images of the couple standing on their property, each wielding a gun, as Black Lives Matter protesters trespassed into their gated neighborhood and approached their house on their way to the home of the St. Louis mayor? Gardner charged the couple with unlawful use of weapons as well as evidence tampering. Unfortunately, she also sought to use the case for political gain, and even sent two fundraising emails touting her prosecution of the McCloskeys. As a result, the judge handling Mark McCloskey’s case disqualified her from handling his prosecution, saying that her fundraising emails gave the appearance that she had “initiated a criminal prosecution for political purposes.” She was later disqualified from Patricia McCloskey’s case, too. Gardner appealed, but the Missouri Eastern District Court of Appeals affirmed Gardner’s removal. Still not happy with the ruling, Gardner appealed to the Missouri Supreme Court, which also affirmed her removal from the cases. Video Appears to Contradict Gardner’s Version of Traffic IncidentAnd then there’s her bizarre encounter with a St. Louis police officer during a traffic stop. The officer says he pulled Gardner over—without knowing to whom the vehicle belonged at the time—because she was driving after dusk without her headlights on. Gardner later claimed that the stop was an intimidation tactic, and that it lasted 15 minutes without the officer telling her why she had been stopped. She even summoned her own investigator to the scene. Unfortunately for Gardner, the stop was captured on video, which appeared to tell a different story. The video shows that the stop only lasted six minutes before the officer released her. It also showed her driving with her lights off. She acknowledged this was the reason she was stopped, although she later claimed that she didn’t know why she was stopped. This reminds us of another bizarre encounter rogue prosecutor Rachael Rollins had with a news crew that was seeking information about a parking lot incident involving Rollins. Again, the news crew’s video appeared to call into question Rollins’ version of events. If Gardner Doesn’t Change, St. Louis Could Become America’s Murder CapitalUnfortunately, rather than acknowledging her mistakes and focusing on ways to combat the rising tide of violent crime in her city, Gardner seems to be doubling down on her failed, dangerous policies. She attributes much of the opposition against her to racism and sexism. But competent, independent African American women elected district attorneys, like former Los Angeles District Attorney Jackie Lacey, have been able to succeed for years. Results matter. Public safety matters. Any opposition to Gardner is more likely due to her abysmal track record as St. Louis’ chief prosecutor. To be clear, any threats to Gardner, her family, her staff, or others are unacceptable and must be treated as such. Furthermore, racist or sexist attacks against Gardner or others have no place in our civil discourse. We condemn them, as we hope others do too. Unfortunately, Gardner’s track record shows she is more interested in grabbing headlines and placating the big money backers of the national rogue prosecutor movement than in doing the in-the-trenches work of enforcing the law and fighting violent crime in her city. Until she starts focusing more of her attention there and revises her dangerous pro-crime, anti-victim policies, St. Louis is likely to remain in contention for, or to be, the murder capital of the country. Local Idaho GOP allegedly demanding Library Trustee censor books
Posted: 16 Apr 2021 01:40 AM PDT
Conservatives have been facing censorship, deplatforming and Cancel Culture as the Left attempts to completely eliminate us from American society. This is a power grab by the elites to control the narrative and the people through propaganda. Without any counterarguments, we are setting ourselves up to be manipulated for the benefit of those in power. This is dangerous territory we have entered within our country. Free Speech is one of the biggest foundations upon which our nation was founded upon. Think about it: without free speech, none of the rest of our Constitutional Rights would accomplish anything. We would not have the right to worship God as we see fit without Free Speech. We wouldn’t be able to peaceably gather without the ability to have free expression. The list goes on and on. Free speech is vital to the future of our country, yet it is being systematically destroyed by the Left. We all know that the Left controls Big Tech, Social Media and the Mainstream Media. This means that they control the narratives being shoved down our throats every single day. Due to the algorithms on sites like YouTube and Twitter, we never see opposing points of view. We are placed into echo chambers, finding ourselves surrounded only with those that agree with our pre-determined position. If you go against the mainstream narrative, you will be deplatformed. You are not allowed to dissent. Unfortunately, the GOP is getting in on the censorship, according Community Library District Trustee Robert Fish in Idaho. He’s running for re-election as the Library District Trustee and sought the endorsement of the County GOP. During their interview with him, Fish stated that they “were most interested in whether (he) would be willing to censor books the committee found objectionable.” “They read to me from a book that I did not get the name of that was apparently from one of the libraries that describes something about transgender and gay activity,” Fish said. “They were obviously uncomfortable.” Now, from a Conservative and Christian perspective, I understand the thinking behind this. There are books within the library that diametrically oppose that of our belief system. So, logically, you would want to ban those books promoting ideologies that we believe are sin, correct? Unfortunately, in a country with Free Speech and as conservatives who oppose governmental censorship, we should defend the right to have books promoting all sorts of ideologies within our libraries. As Fish went on to explain in his interview with the Couer d’Alene Press: “The library is not in the business of censorship. We don’t censor books. We don’t censor any of our materials. The reason libraries exist is to provide information for anything to anybody that has an interest in it. We don’t try to decide what people can read and talk about.” This is the right mentality for a library to have. Now, if we are talking children’s books, I understand taking safety precautions to ensure that there are not adult themes or sexually explicit material mixed in with that section. Many children’s books are almost pornographic and talking about topics which kids should not even be thinking about. In those circumstances, I understand censoring that or having a dedicated section so that it’s not mixed in with books that parents would be comfortable with their kids reading. The main principle, however, needs to be to defend Free Speech and Expression. That means that we, as Conservatives, cannot respond to censorship and Cancel Culture of the Left with our own version of it. We should embrace opposing views within the public square, taking those ideas we disagree with and debating them with superior arguments and the truth. Censoring speech will accomplish nothing except destroy America. Catch all of our shows on Locals, Rumble and Apple Podcasts.

CBS splices gun in Adam Toledo’s hand out of police shooting video
Posted: 16 Apr 2021 12:06 AM PDT The entire purpose of a free press is to allow the truth to come out. In modern day America, mainstream media works against this notion and proactively works to subvert the truth with their reporting. In the case of CBS News coverage of the police shooting of 13-year-old Adam Toledo, the dishonesty on their part is striking. They intentionally edited out the part of the video that shows a gun in Toledo’s hand just prior to being shot. We know it was intentional because the rest of the video edit kept Toledo in best view, but the split second in which the gun can be seen, they conveniently pulled the edit to the left to keep him hidden before panning back to show him getting shot.
Based on the video, many on both sides of the political aisle were outraged at what appears to be a teen boy stopping and raising his hands as ordered before getting shot. But the gun in his hand a split second before adds brand new context that makes the split second decision more understandable, though clearly still wrong on the police officer’s part. Social media was outraged by CBS News’ editing: Ryan Saavedra said, “This video is deceptively edited and cuts out the portion of the police officer’s body camera footage that showed that the suspect was holding a gun.”
Brodie’sBurner said, “Regardless of how anyone feels about this shooting. Right or wrong. Justified or not. EVERYONE should be outraged that it was purposefully edited to elicit a desired response from us. If we don’t wake up to what they’re doing, we’re gonna tear ourselves apart. Smarten TF up.”
Terry Cooper Brown asked, “Why is CBS deceptively editing videos??”
Steven Boots noted the outrage many felt before seeing the full video. “I was so appalled at this video when I first saw it… then remembered this is CBS and low and behold the video has been edited. The right side of the screen has been narrowed ever since [sic] slightly.. in the unedited Version this man has a gun in his right hand.”
According to The Post Millennial: The graphic footage showed a Chicago police officer chasing two people, one of whom appeared to be Toledo. During the pursuit, Toledo stopped and turned toward the officer, at which point the cop ordered him to show his hands. In the video, Toledo appeared to have his hands up when he is shot once in the chest. Also seen in the footage is Toledo holding a gun, which he allegedly threw away before the fatal shot was fired. The video also showed officers attempting to resuscitate Toledo. CBS is already being accused of behaving like activists, rather than journalists, by running a story with the headline, “3 ways companies can help fight Georgia’s restrictive new voting law,” which was designed to put pressure on Georgia in response to their new voter laws. CBS eventually scrubbed the tweet containing the article and edited the headline. Why does CBS News feel they must reframe a story the way they want it to be told instead of just reporting the facts? This deceptive practice has become standard operating procedure like it was in the Soviet Union or now in Communist China. The Pentagon paid scientist to develop ‘trans-medium’ military craft after fears that China already has UFO technology
Posted: 15 Apr 2021 08:15 PM PDT The Department of Defense paid Air Force scientist Salvatore Pais to develop a “trans-medium” military craft modeled after unidentified flying objects (UFO) that can operate both in air and underwater. The Pentagon funded the project out of concern that China might already have advanced UFO technology at its disposal. Article by Virgilio Marin from Natural News. Pais was formerly an aerospace engineer for the Naval Air Systems Command’s Warfare Center Aircraft Division before transferring to the Air Force this year. Known for his high-concept, futuristic inventions, the engineer filed several patents on behalf of the Navy, including for a compact fusion reactor that could practically generate limitless energy without consuming a lot of power to do so. His experimental craft is no less mind-boggling. Inspired by UFOs that were seen in American airspace before, the craft is a hybrid aerospace-underwater vehicle that can fluidly switch between two different mediums. According to Pais, the technology works by generating high-energy electromagnetic fields, which he claimed can allow one to manipulate the “quantum vacuum” that underlies the universe. If Pais were correct, a craft enveloped by a high-energy electromagnetic force field could move through air or water with virtually no resistance. In turn, the craft could travel at incredible speeds through both mediums, functioning as both a submersible vehicle and a supersonic stealth aircraft. Crews would be encased in a Faraday cage to shield them from intense electromagnetic forces. Pais remarked that the technology would “engineer the fabric of our reality at the most fundamental level.” While some experts expressed skepticism – science writer Brett Tingley said that the craft had no basis in reality – his ambitious project apparently convinced some defense chiefs. He was reportedly handed over $500,000 to carry out research on the concept. Internal emails from the Pentagon also revealed that there was at least one experimental demonstration of the technology. (Related: Navy patents suggest American military possesses alien technology.) Pentagon locked in a UFO tech race with ChinaIn a recent paper, Pais described his craft, which he called a hybrid aerospace-undersea craft (HUAC), as being shaped roughly like the point of a pencil: “The HUAC is conical in configuration with an elliptical cross-section, similar in geometry to a hypersonic glide vehicle [or] dart.” The schematics that Pais drew up for the craft resembled the triangular UFOs occasionally spotted gliding silently around the country. The National Institute for Discovery Science, a now-defunct research organization focused on ufology, cataloged multiple sightings of “black triangle” UFOs dating back to the 1990s. The experimental craft also closely resembled the triangular, trans-medium vehicle captured in camera by a F/A-18 fighter pilot in 2019. The pilot’s photograph was included in a Pentagon report that was widely circulated in the intelligence community, the Debrief reported last December. Federal officials told the news website that the photo was taken after the craft emerged from the ocean and ascended upward at a 90-degree angle. According to The Drive, the Pentagon appears to be intent on creating highly advanced aircraft modeled after UFOs. It fears that China may have already developed futuristic aircraft akin to the unidentified objects witnessed by American military pilots. “The Chief Technical Officer of the Naval Aviation Enterprise personally wrote a letter addressed to the examiner claiming that the U.S. needs the patent as the Chinese are already ‘investing significantly’ in these aerospace technologies,” according to an article from The Drive, which was co-written by Tingley. James O’Keefe going scorched earth with lawsuits against Twitter and CNN
Posted: 15 Apr 2021 02:21 PM PDT Following a permanent suspension by Twitter, Project Veritas founder and CEO James O’Keefe will be suing the Big Tech “platform” for defamation. The lawsuit will be filed on Monday, according to O’Keefe. “I am suing Twitter for defamation because they said I, James O’Keefe, ‘operated fake accounts.’ This is false, this is defamatory, and they will pay. Section 230 may have protected them before, but it will not protect them from me. The complaint will be filed Monday.”
Twitter has been protected for years under Section 230 of the U.S. Code, preventing them from being sued for the content that goes on their site. But there have been vulnerabilities to their protection exposed in recent months with lawsuits moving forward despite Section 230. O’Keefe hopes to find similarly exposed parts with the most likely case being suing the company for what they have said about him, not what was posted on the platform itself. This follows a lawsuit a series of lawsuits planned against CNN, though for unrelated reasons. According to MSN: Controversial undercover journalist and scourge of the left James O’Keefe appears to be waging a full-scale war on CNN that includes not only the undercover videos he is known for, but also a series of planned lawsuits against the news network and its anchors over issues that may not even involve him or his nonprofit organization, Project Veritas. O’Keefe told Newsweek he will soon sue CNN and two of its journalists, Brian Stelter and Ana Cabrera, for defamation in a report about Twitter permanently banning Project Veritas. The February segment featured Cabrera accusing Project Veritas of “promoting misinformation” and calling the group a “conservative action-ist, activist,” none of which O’Keefe says is true. Twitter reportedly banned Project Veritas over an anti-doxxing policy after the group confronted a Facebook executive outside of his home. In the same February segment, Stelter claimed Project Veritas violated “multiple rules.” Meanwhile, O’Keefe posted video of CNN allegedly confronting a woman outside of her home and accusing her of “being a Russian troll,” as O’Keefe puts it, to show that CNN may have allegedly violated the same Twitter policy. The video includes a phone conversation between a legal representative of Project Veritas and CNN technology reporter Brian Fung, who accurately reported why the group was banned by Twitter, with O’Keefe intoning that either Fung is correct, or Cabrera is, though they are on the same network. O’Keefe and Project Veritas have had a good track record of getting corrections made in mainstream media reports, but their moves against Big Tech sites have thus far been unsuccessful. The organization’s Twitter account was banned in February and remains so, though no lawsuit was filed against them. This time, O’Keefe believes he can sue and win in court. The latest topic of their investigative reports is CNN. Multiple recordings of technical director Charlie Chester reveal shocking practices at the news network. Chester acknowledged that they engage in fearmongering to drive up ratings, that they actively worked against President Trump and now Congressman Matt Gaetz to drive propaganda, and they selectively report on hot topics like anti-Asian-American hate crimes to go along with their narrative. Here are the three videos that have been released so far: PART 1: CNN Director ADMITS Network Engaged in ‘Propaganda’ to Remove Trump from Presidency PART 2: CNN Director Reveals That Network Practices ‘Art of Manipulation’ to ‘Change The World’ PART 3: Chester Says CNN ‘Trying To Help’ Black Lives Matter By Protecting Group’s Narrative On Race These are tricky waters with Section 230 protections on Twitter’s side, but James O’Keefe is not suing over their platform. He’s suing over their defaming statements. There’s a good chance he can get around their government-provided shielding. Posted: 15 Apr 2021 10:26 PM PDT by Gary Bauer: The War On Cops Authorities in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, say she meant to use her Taser, but accidentally pulled her firearm. You may have seen video of that incident by now. But there are other videos you haven’t seen. Like the video of Officer Eric Talley rushing into a Boulder, Colorado, grocery store to stop a mass murderer who killed ten people. Officer Talley died in the line of duty. You haven’t seen the video of the Capitol Hill police officers who were intentionally driven into by a radical black Muslim. Officer William Evans was crushed to death. You didn’t see the video of a Long Island police officer who was attacked with a knife at a traffic stop Saturday night. Or the video of the two Utah deputies who were both shot in the face that same day. You didn’t see the video of Monday’s gun battle that lasted over an hour and stretched for miles in western Georgia. Before it was over, three police officers were shot. You didn’t see the video of the police officer who was shot yesterday at a Tennessee high school while engaging an armed student. The media deliberately focus on the relatively rare examples of police mistakes, making it look like there is a war on minorities. But there is in fact a war on police. Remember the left-wing demands to “defund the police”? They haven’t stopped. Rep. Rashida Tlaib says the solution to what happened in Brooklyn Center this weekend is no more policing and no more incarceration. That’s insane! Several cities tried slashing their police budgets, and it backfired. Crime is surging. (Here, here, here, and here.) All over the country, police departments are reporting mass retirements. So consider this: How much would you have to be paid to do the job that police officers do every day? What would the country look like if Rashida Tlaib gets her way and we wake up one more morning to find there are no police? The Left’s Toxic Atmosphere During a press conference yesterday, Mayor Mike Elliott made it clear that he wanted Officer Potter fired. Asked for his thoughts, Boganey said, “All employees working for the city of Brooklyn Center are entitled to due process with respect to discipline.” That’s it. But by 6:30 last night, Boganey was out of a job. The mayor and the city council fired him. When did supporting the right of due process become controversial or cause for termination? The fact of the matter is that Boganey was sacrificed to the mob. At least one council member told local reporters that she “voted to fire Boganey out of fear of potential reprisals from protestors if she did not.” Council member Kris Lawrence-Anderson added, “He was doing a great job. I respect him dearly.” But apparently just not enough to respect his right to free speech and due process! Meanwhile, there is a steady drum beat from the political left insisting that the biggest threat young black men face is being shot by police officers. No it isn’t. According to a study by the University of Michigan, the main causes of death for young black men are in order: Accidental death, suicides, homicides, heart disease and cancer. As this editorial explains, crime, not the police, is the major threat plaguing the black community. But woke Hollywood stars, who sit in their gated communities, wag their fingers at law enforcement and tweet their disdain for the men and women who protect us all. And left-wing politicians denounce the criminal justice system as systemically racist, while also suggesting that we abolish the police and our right to self-defense. The Vultures Circle President Xi of communist China demonstrated his disdain for Biden by sending 25 warplanes into Taiwan’s air defense zone, the largest incursion yet. The “probe” included 18 fighter jets, four bombers and a couple of anti-submarine aircraft. If China reabsorbs Taiwan, the U.S. is done in the Pacific. Is it a coincidence that at the same time Russia’s Vladimir Putin is massing tens of thousands of troops on the border with Ukraine? Russia hasn’t moved this many troops into position since 2014, when Obama/Biden were running the show. Apparently, Biden/Harris doesn’t scare them either. Meanwhile, at the Pentagon, Biden’s appointees are monitoring the social media posts of U.S. military personnel to see if any of our brave men and women in uniform are “too right-wing.” Other senior officers have been assigned the task of integrating transgendered personnel into the ranks. So while America’s serious adversaries prepare for war, our military leadership is busy trying to please America’s “woke” leftists who hate the military. This won’t end well. Fauci’s Follies For example, last month Fauci was warning about a fourth COVID surge. Two weeks later, he was downplaying the risks of a fourth surge due to the success of the vaccination campaigns. But while speaking on MSNBC this weekend, Fauci suggested that vaccinated people should avoid eating at indoor restaurants, and he was still urging extreme caution for those who have been vaccinated. If that’s the case, what’s the point of the vaccination? It’s absolutely clear that the impact of his remarks on the already decimated restaurant industry, and those who supply it, never crossed his mind. Well, that was Sunday. Yesterday, Dr. Fauci was doing damage control. Speaking with Wolf Blitzer on CNN, Fauci was a bit more balanced, saying that the risks for fully vaccinated people were “very low,” and that eating indoors ultimately was a personal decision based on the level of risk someone is willing to take. Once again, Fauci is proving why public health advice should be only one of the factors that a president and public officials take into consideration. By the way, what about that fourth surge? Well, according to the latest CDC data, the seven-day average of cases ending April 11th was 67,653. That’s up about 27% from a month ago. But it’s still down more than 70% from the January peak just three months ago. So, why is all the news focusing on another surge? The real story should be the massive decline in cases. Liberal Lies For example:
Now consider this: The same leftists who are regularly lying to us control virtually every major American city. Yet we’re supposed to believe they are telling the truth when they say there was no cheating on Election Day. Biden’s Court Packing Scheme After a series of setbacks on his New Deal legislation, President Franklin Roosevelt attempted to pack the court with six new liberal justices sympathetic to his agenda. But the heavy-handed attempt by the executive branch of government to control the judicial branch backfired spectacularly. So much so that no president has ever tried it again. At various points in his career, Joe Biden has condemned court packing. He called Roosevelt’s effort a “boneheaded idea,” a “terrible, terrible mistake” that “put in question” the Supreme Court’s independence. That was then. This is now. Polling shows that the American people are overwhelmingly opposed (here and here) to packing the courts. But the “nice guy” who insisted that he just wants to unite the country is now attempting to secure iron-clad control over all three branches of government. The left is trying to gut all the checks and balances that the founders gave us.
By the way, the same week Biden created this commission, he attacked the Second Amendment and made the troubling statement that “no constitutional amendment is absolute.” So, it’s not surprising that he’s asking a stacked commission to look into whether the number of liberal justices should be increased and whether the justices should be subject to term limits, something Biden and the left have opposed applying to members of Congress. In related news, the Supreme Court ruled 5-to-4 Friday night to overturn California’s pandemic restrictions on home churches and Bible studies. That may sound like good news, but Chief Justice John Roberts once again joined the court’s liberals in voting to restrict religious freedom. In other words, we just learned that we have only a one-vote margin on the critically important issue of religious liberty. Never Trumpers Gave Us The Biden Nightmare As a result of our “guilt by association,” they began compiling an “enemy’s list” to make sure that former Trump aides were denied jobs and “held accountable.” Well, that goes both ways. The Never Trumpers, in my view, are complicit in everything that is being done to our values right now. They are complicit in forcing taxpayers to subsidize abortions. They are complicit in the chaos at the border. They are complicit in the appeasement of Iran. They are complicit in Biden’s efforts to pack the courts. They are complicit in his tax hikes, and the damage he causes to working-class Americans. The Never Trumpers accepted money from the most vicious leftists in the country to ensure that Trump/Pence lost, and that we must suffer through four years of this disaster we currently have in the White House. Never Trumpers should never be part of the conservative movement again! Mansions For Marxists It turns out that one of the movement’s co-founders, Patrisse Khan-Cullors, went on a home-buying spree. In recent years, she purchased four homes worth on average at least $800,000. Their combined value is well over $3 million. But that’s not all. She and her husband also flew to the Albany, an “ultra-exclusive resort” in the Bahamas, to inquire about another property. It’s not known whether they purchased anything, but one resort worker said, “People who buy at the Albany are buying their fourth or fifth home. This is not a second-home residence. It’s extremely high-end.” Khan-Cullors’s real estate collection is ironic given that she is a self-described Marxist. I wonder if she was getting real estate advice from Bernie Sanders? Needless to say, other BLM activists are demanding a thorough investigation of the movement’s finances. Khan-Cullors is merely following in the footsteps of the historic Marxists she so admires. Castro, Mao and the Soviet commissars always found a way to live the “the good life.” Ad Wars & Our Future Now watch this ad from the U.S. Army. It’s focused on confronting racial division, and creating “an environment in which people feel comfortable expressing their grievances.” One of these ads projects confidence and the will to achieve victory, while the other reflects a nation consumed by self-doubt. Don’t get me wrong, friends. The American military has a long and proud history of racial integration. But at the end of the day, the military has one purpose – to win America’s wars, not to satisfy Nancy Pelosi, the New York Times and the members of the Berkeley faculty lounge. Double-Team on Woke Sports
Posted: 15 Apr 2021 08:45 PM PDT
by Tony Perkins: It’ll be months before Major League Baseball knows how much its decision to move Atlanta’s All-Star Game cost them financially. Fortunately, Americans won’t have to wait nearly that long to understand how much it hurt the MLB politically. Thanks to Governor Doug Ducey (R-Ariz.), they already know. If the goal of MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred and his liberal pals was to scare other states into submission, Arizona’s new law makes it quite clear: he’s already failed. U.S. sports leagues have held an over-important place in our political debates for years. But after overplaying their hand over Georgia’s election law, that might finally be changing. To a lot of conservatives’ relief, the MLB’s decision to punish Atlanta didn’t just backfire — it sparked a nationwide movement. Republican leaders in other states, who’ve been held hostage by the threats of woke groups like the NCAA for too long, have finally decided to tell the country’s sports leagues to take a hike. If the NFL wants to try the same playbook in Arizona that the MLB did in Georgia, Ducey says good luck. People inside football warned him that his 2023 Super Bowl might be on the line if he signed his state’s election reforms. “I report to the people of Arizona and not a major sports league,” he fired back. “And I’m going to make decisions on the policies that are put in front of me.” His decision, as it turns out, was a good one. On Friday, Ducey inked his name to a significant election law that stops radical donors like Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg from interfering in the state’s elections. When reporters pointed out the possible backlash from the NFL and NCAA (which is slated to host the Final Four in Arizona in 2023), he refused to be dissuaded by fear. “I think Major League Baseball made a big mistake,” Ducey said. “I’d like to keep politics out of baseball. That’s how I’d prefer it.” And what about March Madness or the biggest event in the NFL, reporters asked? “I’m going to sign good policy, okay?” he replied. The days of deciding legislation based on what a radical sports organization would do — at least in Arizona — are over. As far as Ducey and Kemp are concerned, the integrity of our elections, not to mention the future prospects of conservatives in elections, are too important to sacrifice over a handful of tournament games. As FRC’s Ken Blackwell — a minority owner in the Cincinnati Reds — pointed out on Fox, MLB’s Manfred got “way out over his skis on this.” “He condemned some common-sense reforms that are pretty commonplace throughout other cities — and he bought into the narrative that these reforms were suppressive and repressive. And now what he’s starting to realize was that he didn’t do his homework, and he led baseball [into] a $100 million dollar catastrophe that is spinning back and hurting people…” And in the process, he might have destroyed any leverage major sports have in the states as the ultimate carrot and stick. As for the “good policy” Ducey signed, Arizona did what every state should be doing and stopped private, third-party donations from interfering in the election process. “With public confidence in our elections in peril, it’s clear our elections must be pristine and above reproach…” he explained. That was not the case in 2020, a new analysis from the Foundation for Government Accountability shows. About 60 percent of the state, which was pivotal to Joe Biden’s victory, received grants from Zuckerberg’s Center for Civic and Tech Life, prompting all kinds of questions about what kind of “get-out-the-vote” operation the Left’s known champion was running. Those suspicions reached a fevered pitch late last month when it was discovered that in nine of the counties where the Facebook CEO invested, Democrats saw an unusually high turnout. “Biden won five of the state’s 15 counties on November 3,” the Daily Signal explains. “In four of the Biden-carried counties that received the grants, the number of Democratic voters increased by 36 percent or more.” In Maricopa County, Democratic turnout was 48 percent higher — jumping from 703,000 to 1.04 million. Compare that, analysts say, to the one county Biden won that didn’t get the Zuckerberg funding: Democratic turnout only increased by 12 percent. This is even fishier, the foundation’s Trever Carlsen explains, when you look at 2016’s statistics. “[Donald] Trump was able to increase his vote total by almost 250,000 votes [in Maricopa County], but miraculously, Biden was able to exceed [Hillary] Clinton’s performance by 337,000 or so,” Trevor told The Daily Signal. “That was enough to make up the difference.” It’s an “interesting comparison when you look at the five counties, four of which got the money and one that didn’t, how Democratic turnout fared.” Interesting is one way to put it — disturbing is another. Just how many votes were the direct result of Zuckerberg’s influence in those counties and thousands of others across the country in last fall’s election? “This makes dark money look like a bright day,” Republican State Senator J.D. Mesnard argued on behalf of the bill that would ban this kind of third-party influence. “We should be proactively stopping [this] before it becomes embedded in America’s election system,” he insisted. Thanks to the courage of Republicans like Brian Kemp and Doug Ducey, more states are. But if we care about free and fair elections, they should be just the beginning. Global Taxes – Global Stagnation
Posted: 15 Apr 2021 08:18 PM PDT
by Dr. Ron Paul: Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has proposed that governments around the world require payment of at least a uniform “global minimum corporate tax.” A motivation for Yellen’s push for a global minimum corporate tax is fear that the Biden administration’s proposed increase in the US corporate tax will cause some American corporations to flee the US for countries with lower corporate taxes. President Biden wants to increase corporate taxes to help pay for his so-called infrastructure plan. The plan actually spends more on “progressive” priorities, including a down payment on the Green New Deal, than on infrastructure. Much of the spending will benefit state-favored businesses. For example, the plan provides money to promote manufacturing and electric vehicles. So, the idea is to raise taxes on all corporations and then use some of the received tax payments to subsidize government-favored businesses and industries. The only way to know the highest valued use of resources is by seeing what goods and services consumers voluntarily choose to spend their money on. A system where the allocation of resources is based on the preferences of politicians and bureaucrats — who use force to get their way — will be less efficient than a system where consumers control the allocation of resources. Thus, the greater role government plays in the economy the less prosperous the people will be — with the possible exception of the governing class and those who make their living currying favor with the rulers. Yellen’s global corporate tax proposal will no doubt be supported by governments of many European Union (EU) countries, as well as the globalist bureaucrats at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). For years, these governments and their power-hungry OECD allies have sought to create a global tax cartel. The goal of those supporting global minimum taxes enforced by a global tax agency is to prevent countries from lowering their taxes. Lowering corporate and other taxes is one way countries are able to attract new businesses and grow their economies. For example, after Ireland lowered its corporate taxes, it moved from being one of the poorest countries in the EU to having one of the EU’s strongest economies. Also, American workers and investors benefited from the 2017 tax reform’s reduction of corporate taxes from 35 percent to 21 percent. Yellen and her pro-global tax counterparts deride tax competition between countries as a “race to the bottom.” In fact, tax competition is a race to the top for the countries whose economies benefit from new investments, and for the workers and consumers who benefit from new job opportunities and new products. In contrast, a global minimum corporate tax will raise prices and lower wages, while incentivizing politicians to further increase the minimum. A global minimum corporate tax will also set a precedent for imposition of other global minimum taxes on individuals. This scheme may even advance the old Keynesian dream of a global currency. The Biden administration is already taking steps toward a global currency by asking the International Monetary Fund to issue more special drawing rights (SDRs). Global tax and fiat currency systems will only benefit the world’s political and financial elites. In contrast, regular people across the world benefit from limited government, free markets, sound money, and reduced or eliminated taxes. Biden, Inc Cronyism: Biden Nominates Senator Manchin’s Wife for Government Gig
Posted: 15 Apr 2021 08:10 PM PDT by Seton Motley: The government crony Spoils System – of course never actually went anywhere. You win an election – you reward your cronies. Or people you want to make your cronies. Or the spouses of people you want to make your cronies. “With the Senate split 50-50 and Vice President Kamala Harris in place to break ties, Democrats have operational control over the chamber. “But the truth of the matter is that Manchin, the most conservative Democrat in the Senate caucus, has more power — to direct the path of legislation and the fate of nominees — than even Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York.”I would quibble mightily with the assertion that Manchin is DCs most conservative Democrat Senator. What he is – is the Democrat representing the most conservative state a Democrat represents. Manchin perpetually talks a good moderate game…. Of course the titanic China Virus and Infrastructure bills are themselves titanic servings of cronyism. Only 5% of $2 Trillion ‘Infrastructure’ Bill Funds Roads and Bridges Biden’s $2.3 Trillion Infrastructure Plan Is Teeming with CronyismAnd Democrats are looking to go to the reconciliation well as often as inhumanly possible – for as many idiotic polices as inhumanly possible. “Only 45% of Americans said they would support a jobs and infrastructure plan that was ‘recently released by the Biden administration.’”Perhaps because 55% of Americans know only 5% of Biden, Inc’s “infrastructure” bill – is actually infrastructure. But as we have seen ad nauseam for many decades – DC and all its denizens could not care less what We the People think or want. Speaking of which…. “Such a move would dramatically expand the funding sources for a broadband access plan and include companies that have received the most value and profits from the internet.”So of course, Biden, Inc is going in the exact opposite direction. Not only is the administration not looking to make Big Tech help pay for other people’s Internet access – they are looking to outlaw Big Tech even paying for their own Internet access. Which is but one of the very many crony benefits Big Tech will receive – when Biden, Inc reimposes the titanically stupid policy known as Net Neutrality. “From an economics perspective, net neutrality means that consumers pay 100 percent of the cost of broadband while Silicon Valley pays zero….The only reason that a digital divide remains in the US today is that Silicon Valley has not paid for its use of broadband networks, creating a loss of some $30-100 billion annually.”But what We the People want is irrelevant. Cronyism is the coin of DC’s realm. And Biden, Inc is in the cronyism business. President Biden: The Time to Restore Net Neutrality Is Now DC business as usual – continues as usual. And DC continues to expand – while the country implodes. Targeting The Second Amendment, Biden’s Boondoggle, Appeasing Terrorists
Posted: 15 Apr 2021 07:28 PM PDT
by Gary Bauer: Biden Targets The Second Amendment But it’s worth pointing out, once again, that Biden is also gaslighting the American people. During his remarks yesterday, he made a number of obviously false statements to advance his left-wing agenda. For example, Biden insisted that you can go to a gun show and “buy whatever you want and [there’s] no background check.” That’s just not true. (Here and here.) All commercial gun sales require a federal background check. And the vast majority of sales at gun shows are conducted by commercial sellers. There is no “gun show loophole.” What’s not subject to federal background checks are private transfers between two people. Is Biden proposing to regulate those too? Biden also falsely claimed that gun manufacturers were “the only outfit that is exempt from being sued.” Again, that’s just not true. A gun manufacturer can be sued if its product is defective. But Biden wants to repeal a 2005 law that prevents gun manufacturers from being sued if a criminal uses their legal product for an illegal purpose. That legal protection is just common sense. It would be like suing Nissan for last week’s car ramming attack that killed a Capitol Hill police officer. Nissan isn’t responsible for what the murderer did with his car. Yet Biden’s anti-Second Amendment agenda was laid bare yesterday. If he could accomplish just one thing, Biden said, “Give me that one.” He wants to open up gun manufacturers to criminal liability for the illegal use of their legal product. It would bankrupt them, and drive them all out of business. And he knows it. Biden’s Boondoggle If you ask people what they think infrastructure is, they’ll say more roads, better bridges, modern airports and improved rail lines. And in this digital age, many would even include increased broadband access or faster internet service. But apparently the Biden Administration has redefined infrastructure to include virtually anything on the left’s socialist agenda. Biden has thrown it all together for a massive $2.3 trillion boondoggle. For example, Biden’s bill includes a lot of items from the Green New Deal. He wants to retrofit government buildings. There’s massive spending on home health care, as well as new job training programs. None of that is infrastructure. Even the left-wing outlet Politico says that only 37% of Biden’s bill is devoted to traditional infrastructure projects. But there’s $590 billion for projects Politico called “a very distant relative” of infrastructure, and $400 billion went to stuff Politico labeled as “Not even close.” Sadly, it gets worse. The bill is jammed full of tax increases. In fact, the National Association of Manufacturers, whose members would benefit greatly from a big infrastructure bill, studied Biden’s proposal and came out strongly against it. They warned that Biden’s massive tax increases would lead to one million job losses over the next two years. It would also shrink economic activity by $200 billion over the next five years. In other words, Biden’s plan is the exact opposite of what we need to do to recover from the pandemic. Joe vs. Joe As we have previously reported, there is a huge push underway by the radical left to browbeat Senate Democrats into eliminating the filibuster rule. That rule requires most legislation to receive supermajority support of 60 votes in order to pass the Senate. But Democrats only have 50 votes. So, because of the filibuster rule, they cannot pass extreme bills like H.R. 1, nationalizing all elections, and H.R. 5 (the so-called “Equality Act”) or legislation to pack the Supreme Court, which Biden is seriously considering. Most Senate Democrats appear willing to “nuke” the filibuster rule. But a few, including Sens. Krysten Sinema and Joe Manchin, are standing firm. Writing in the Washington Post this week, Manchin was unambiguous about his position: “I have said it before and will say it again to remove any shred of doubt: There is no circumstance in which I will vote to eliminate or weaken the filibuster.” And Manchin went even further, criticizing the Democrats’ repeated use of the budget reconciliation process, writing: “If the filibuster is eliminated or budget reconciliation becomes the norm, a new and dangerous precedent will be set to pass sweeping, partisan legislation that changes the direction of our nation every time there is a change in political control. The consequences will be profound — our nation may never see stable governing again.” Please take a moment today to call Sen. Manchin’s office at 202-224-3954. Thank him for standing firm against the left’s efforts to eliminate or modify the filibuster. Appeasing Terrorists Has the Palestinian Authority agreed to make peace with Israel? No. As a matter of fact, there’s a good chance that the terrorist organization Hamas could win next month’s Palestinian elections. Then what? The Coalition for Jewish Values, representing 1,500 Orthodox rabbis, blasted the administration. Rabbi Yaakov Menken said the Biden Administration is knowingly violating the Taylor Force Act, adding, “Every global terror organization is delighted to see President Biden in power.” The Islamic Republic of Iran, the world’s leading state-sponsor of terrorism, is certainly happy. Incredibly, the Biden Administration announced this week that it is prepared to unilaterally lift sanctions against Iran that are “inconsistent” with the 2015 Obama/Biden nuclear deal. They’re effectively rolling back the clock to the Obama era. Biden is going to remove all the sanctions imposed by President Trump specifically targeting Iran’s terrorist activities and its human rights violations. In other words, Biden is appeasing Iran and rewarding its bad behavior. Netanyahu Responds “The nuclear agreement with Iran, which allowed it to make progress in developing its arsenal of atomic bombs . . . is back on the table. However, history has taught us that such agreements with such extremist regimes are worth less than nothing. “Even to our best friends I say: Make no mistake — an agreement with Iran that will pave their way to a nuclear weapon — a weapon that threatens to destroy us — any such agreement will not bind us one iota. Only one thing binds us: preventing those who seek to destroy us from carrying out their plan. “During the Holocaust, we did not have the strength to defend ourselves, nor the sovereign right to do so. We were without rights, without a country, without protection. “Today, we have a country, we have a defensive force and we have the natural and full right as the sovereign nation of the Jewish people to defend ourselves against our enemies.” Tags: Gary Bauer, Campaign for Working Families, Targeting The Second Amendment, Biden’s Boondoggle, Appeasing TerroristsTo share or post to your site, click on “Post Link”. NRA Opposes David Chipman for ATF Director
Posted: 15 Apr 2021 06:58 PM PDT by NRA-ILA: During a press conference on Thursday, President Biden announced that he would once again be targeting law-abiding gun owners by ordering ATF to develop two new restrictive regulations. Aiming to accessorize the Department of Justice’s anti-gun leadership team, Biden announced his nomination of gun control lobbyist David Chipman for Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. It’s hard to imagine choosing a nominee who is more hostile to the rights of American gun owners than Chipman. Chipman is a Gun Control Extremist David Chipman’s current employer, Giffords, co-founded by United States Senator Mark Kelly, filed a brief in the landmark Second Amendment case, District of Columbia v. Heller. The brief argued that, “The Second Amendment Does Not Limit the Options Available to Cities to Address the Problem of Gun Violence.” Notably, Giffords argued that the District’s complete ban on the possession of handguns by law-abiding Americans was constitutional. Such an interpretation would have completely eviscerated the Second Amendment. This extremist view put Giffords sharply out-of-touch with the American people. Nearly, three-quarters of Americans at the time thought the Second Amendment “guaranteed an individual right to own gun.” For those who might think that Giffords has moved on from such extreme views, their law center’s website still proudly notes that they filed the brief arguing “that the right to possess a firearm is not based on an individual right of self-defense, but rather related to service in a militia based on the prefatory language in the Amendment.” Chipman Wants to Target America’s Rifle. In October 2018, Chipman argued in favor of subjecting all AR-15s and potentially all semi-automatic rifles to regulation under the National Firearms Act. Beyond the problems of subjecting the most popular rifle in America to punitive taxation and registration, such a move would likely lead to a decade long backlog in NFA registrations, effectively banning America’s rifle, firearm suppressors, and other firearms currently subject to NFA regulation. ATF operates on a “normal” backlog of 9-12 months for NFA applications. Even with this backlog and despite the registry being nearly 90 years old, as of 2020 there were only 6.6 million firearms in the registry. And, in recent years ATF has had the capacity to process only about 350,000 NFA forms per year. Even using the most conservative estimate for the number of AR-15s in America, with ATF’s current forms processing capacity, the agency would clear the backlog in NFA forms sometime around 2070. And, that’s only if the agency didn’t process a single NFA form for a suppressor, short-barreled rifle, or other NFA firearm. As an agent with ATF for over two decades, Chipman is familiar with the agency’s NFA form processing capacity. He likely sees such a delay as a feature rather than a defect. Chipman reiterated his wish to subject existing AR-15s to the NFA in a Reddit “Ask Me Anything” last year, but he further explained his position on future sales: “The biggest challenge we have is sheer numbers. It has been estimated that there are around 15 million assault rifles currently in circulation. I believe we should ban the future production and sale to civilians and afford current owners of these firearms the ability to license these particular guns with ATF under the National Firearms Act.” Chipman Has Repeatedly Lied to Further his Gun Ban Agenda Regular readers of NRA-ILA alerts are likely familiar with Chipman’s lies. In 2019, we explained how Chipman was trying to mislead the public regarding firearms suppressors. He claimed that “The gun does not sound gun-like. It takes the edge out of the tone . . . This is how I would describe it: It makes a gun sort of sound like a nail gun.” As we said at the time, “The 30-35 dBA difference between a nail gun and a suppressed pistol will be perceived as at least eight times louder to the human ear.” And, this wasn’t even the first time he lied about firearm suppressors. In 2017, Chipman claimed “Anyone who has worked in law enforcement for as long as I have will tell you that silencers were not designed to protect hearing, they were designed to make it difficult for people to identify the sound of gunfire and locate active shooters.” Again, at the time, we set the record straight by pointing out that he was simply flat wrong regarding the design intent of firearm suppressors. “Unfortunately for Mr. Chipman, Hiram Percy Maxim, the designer of the firearm suppressor, made his design intent perfectly clear. Maxim wrote “The Maxim Silencer was developed to meet my personal desire to enjoy target practice without creating a disturbance . . . I have always loved to shoot, but I never thoroughly enjoyed it when I knew that the noise was annoying other people. It occurred to me one day that there was no need for the noise. Why not do away with it and shoot quietly?” At the time, Chipman’s employer also received three “Pinocchios” from the Washington Post for another misleading claim about firearm suppressors. In the same Reddit “Ask Me Anything” discussed above, Chipman made the absurd claim that “At Waco, cult members used 2 .50 caliber Barretts to shoot down two Texas Air National Guard helicopters. Point, it is true we are fortunate they are not used in crime more often. The victims of drug lords in Mexico are not so lucky. America plays a role in fueling the violence south of the border.” Needless to say, no helicopters were “shot down” “at Waco.” In testimony before the House Judiciary Committee in 2019, Chipman claimed that the American gun market was “flooded” with “foreign made ARs.” Anyone even remotely familiar with the American gun market knows that this claim is false. Not only are nearly all AR-15s made in America, but continued strong demand for ARs seems to also refute his notion that the market was “flooded.” It is clear that, if confirmed, Chipman would use every tool at his disposal to attack the rights of law-abiding American gun owners. Chipman’s views on the Second Amendment and his work as a gun prohibitionist should disqualify him from serving as the Director of the ATF. Paris Climate Accord Flops As China Increases Carbon Emissions More Than Rest Of The World Reduces Them
Posted: 15 Apr 2021 06:32 PM PDT While America has been busily shuttering coal fired utilities, China has stomped down on the accelerator in increasing coal fired electricity generation.
by Rick Manning: President Joe Biden’s blind re-entry into the fatally flawed Paris Climate Accord in January was little more than a promise to unilaterally decapitate energy production and use in the United States while China continues to accelerate their carbon output. But if you had any doubts, while the Biden administration via climate envoy John Kerry continues promoting the unenforceable Paris Climate Accords in Asia, China increased coal-fired electricity production faster than the rest of the world reduced it in 2020 — highlighting continued concerns about non-reciprocity in the agreement.Specially, China increased its coal fired electricity production capacity by 38.4 GW with new plants, in 2020, while 37.8 GW of coal plants were retired everywhere else, according to a study by Global Energy Monitor, Sierra Club, CREA, Climate Risk Horizons, GreenID and Ekosfer. That’s right, while America has been busily shuttering coal fired utilities based upon regulatory and fiscal pressures to convert them to less resilient and more vulnerable natural gas, China has stomped down on the accelerator in increasing coal fired electricity generation. What’s even worse is that the agreement that Biden blindly stumbled back into makes zero provisions that China, whose growth continues outpacing the U.S., would begin immediately lowering their carbon footprint. Instead, because all of Paris’ targets are voluntary, it allows the communist regime to accelerate their dependence on coal while welcoming the world’s manufacturers to move to their high pollution, low regulation shores. The truth is that coal fired plants in the U.S. are significantly less polluting than those being built in China, and if environmental groups were truly serious about their claim of man-made climate change, they would boycott companies that offshore their production to China as this increases their so-called carbon footprint on a world-wide basis. But so-called environmentalists’ silence on this issue shows once again, that they are less concerned about pollution across the globe and more concerned with outsourcing production and crippling free market economies to the advantage of communist China. The fact that Biden jumped back into the Paris agreement without any demand to force the world’s largest polluter to take significant, economy stifling actions while pledging the U.S. to even more detrimental goals than established in 2015, shows they are not really serious about the issue. Instead, the Biden administration views it as a means for creating federal government dictates via the Green New Deal or other carbon reducing schemes, and expand Washington, D.C.s control over the formerly free enterprise system in America, while depending on imports from China for green technology. In a word, the Biden green agenda can be characterized by one word — fraudulent. The Proof is in the Packing
Posted: 15 Apr 2021 06:03 PM PDT
by Judd Garrett: One does not have to look any further than the Democrats desire to pack the Supreme Court as evidence that massive voter fraud was committed in the 2020 election. The only reason for packing the Supreme Court is to gain absolute power. Adding two or four more justices to the Court does not make the court fairer and more just, does not help the Justices make more Constitutionally sound rulings. Nine justices is not an inadequate number. Cases are not being judged insufficiently due to a lack of justices on the Court. The only reason why the left wants to pack the Court is to swing its philosophical balance of power in their direction so they can ram their legislative agenda through unimpeded from Constitutional restraint. They want to turn the Supreme Court into a rubber stamp for their agenda, and they do not care if doing so destroys the integrity of the court in the process, turning it into a kangaroo court like the courts in banana republics, or totalitarian countries. In 1983, when Ronald Reagan was President, Joe Biden believed that packing the Supreme Court would be “a terrible, terrible mistake.” He went on to say that Franklin Roosevelt’s attempt to pack the court, “put in question, for an entire decade, the independence of the most significant body in this country: the Supreme Court of the United States of America.” Joe Biden, himself, believed that packing the court undermines the court’s integrity, but now here he is creating a commission to study packing the Supreme Court, because he knows it will give him unprecedented power. So, how is packing the Supreme Court evidence of voter fraud? Everything the Democrats do is about obtaining power, and they will do anything, destroy anything to get it. They do not care about preserving the integrity of our institutions, like the court or our elections. If an uncorrupt system is getting in the way of them obtaining power, they will corrupt it. That is what they are doing with packing the Supreme Court, and that is what they did during the 2020 election. Removing voter ID, signature match and sending out millions of unrequested mail-in ballots had nothing to do with keeping people safe from Covid. There are no scientific studies concluding that showing a government issued ID or requiring voter’s signatures to match their signature on the voter roll transmits Covid. Yet, they did away with these voter integrity measures on the “emergency” grounds of combatting the transmission of Covid. Why does a state like New York have strict voter ID laws supported by Democrats? Because, it is a solid blue state which will consistently vote for Democratic Presidents and Senators, so they want their elections to be fair, free from fraud. Democrats’ push to eliminate the filibuster is further proof that they are willing to destroy every and any institution in this country to obtain power. In 2005, when the Republicans had all the power, Joe Biden believed ending the filibuster would be harmful to the country. He said, “It is not only a bad idea, it upsets the constitutional design and it disservices the country. No longer would the Senate be that different kind of legislative body that the Founders intended. No longer would the Senate be the saucer to cool the passions of the immediate majority.” But now, since ending the filibuster would give Biden and the Democrats absolute power, Biden has changed his mind. He no longer cares that it “disservices the country.” All he cares about is power. Democrats were not talking about removing the filibuster when they used it 327 times against the Republicans and President Trump. It is only now when they have all the power that they want to give the majority absolute power, and strip the remaining meager power from the minority, turning the United States into one party rule. Nothing the Democrats want to do makes the United States better, stronger, fairer, more honest, more just. It is only about their power. Opening our southern border and allowing hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants into this country every month is bad for our country, it is bad for the countries these people are leaving, it is bad for American citizens, and it is bad, even deadly, for the illegal immigrants, themselves. But it is good for the Democrats and their unquenchable thirst for power, so they facilitate it. This massive influx of illegal immigrants, coupled with amnesty will add millions of Democrat voters in red states like Texas insuring not only Democrat permanent power but also the destruction of this country. Everyone knows, political censorship violates the principles of free speech that is a vital necessity to a functioning democracy, but the Democrats will not do anything to stop the political censorship by Facebook and Twitter because it helps them obtain and maintain political power. They do not care if censorship is bad for the country, if it gives them more power, they will support it. The destruction and carnage from the riots of 2020 in our major cities were devastating to our country, but Democrats like Kamala Harris, Michelle Obama and Joe Biden supported, and even abetted the riots because the violence and instability increased the Democrats chances in the election. Democrats have no problem with destroying the Supreme Court through court packing, destroying the Senate through eliminating the filibuster, destroying our cities through riots, why would anyone think they would have qualms about destroying the integrity of the vote, especially since they removed measures protecting the vote on fraudulent grounds? They cannot legitimately win the type of power they need to push through their unpopular agenda, so, rather than representing the will of the people like honest politicians do to win votes, they choose to change, or more accurately fundamentally transform the country, which means fundamentally corrupt our institutions like the Supreme Court, the legislative process, and the vote. They are not adjusting to the will of the people and the country; they are bending the country to fit their agenda. Once these systems become corrupted, they become almost impossible to uncorrupt, especially if the corruption is the root of the powerful’s power. But who wants to be in charge of a corrupt government? Who wants to be put in power through corruption? What they do not realize is that they will end up like those corrupt emperors of Rome during its decline, like Nero and Caligula, who the history books are not very kind to. Democrats only want power, power, and more power. They act as if they are not human, as if they are immune to temptations of power that afflict the rest of us mortals; greed, selfishness, ego. The blind arrogance and utter lack of self-awareness is staggering. Why is it that it is always the least enlightened who believe and act as if they are the most enlightened? They look down on the rest of us as deplorable bigots clinging to our guns and bibles. No wonder they think they can override, and negate our votes. They believe their corruption and fraud is saving the country from ourselves. It is all delusional arrogance. The 2021 Democrats are the very reason why the founders crafted and ratified our Constitution the way they did with limits of politicians, and created a system of separate and balanced power. They knew the likes of them were coming in our country’s future. That’s why they created the system designed to protect the country and our institutions from politicians like the Democrats who are willing to destroy our system of government to enhance their power. Eventually, the Democrats will want to destroy the Constitution because it will be the last thing standing in their way from ultimate power, the ultimate power that will destroy our country. Supreme Court Punted on Protections for Religion in Workplace. Justice Gorsuch Wasn’t Having It.
Posted: 15 Apr 2021 05:37 PM PDT
Sarah Parshall Perry: The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday released various opinions and orders, as it does in the flurry of activity in the spring season that precedes the court’s summer recess. While most orders are released without commentary, among this week’s batch was a denial of a petition for writ of certiorari that included a strongly worded dissent from Justice Neil Gorsuch on why he disagreed with the court’s refusal to hear the case. The dissent (joined by Justice Samuel Alito) is particularly noteworthy in our current culture, one driven toward more and more anti-religious animosity. Denials of certiorari are quite common. After all, the Supreme Court grants only about 3% of the thousands of petitions it receives each year. But Small v. Memphis Light, Gas & Water on its face looked to be perhaps the type of case Gorsuch was hoping for when he left the door open a crack to questions of how best to protect religious interests under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 in his 2020 majority opinion in Bostock v. Clayton County, Georgia. Perhaps it would have been a way to at least partially redeem himself from what many conservative legal scholars thought was a botched ruling in that case. Jason Small, an electrician and longtime employee of Memphis Light, Gas & Water, had an on-the-job injury that forced him to take on a new role as a dispatcher. The new job came with a different schedule and mandatory overtime that sometimes conflicted with Small’s religious obligations, such as worship services on Sunday mornings. In an effort to accommodate his religious faith when it conflicted with his professional duties, Small requested a reduction in pay while he looked for a schedule that better accommodated his religious obligations. Memphis Light, Gas & Water denied his request, and he was forced to take vacation days in order to attend church services. That arrangement worked for both Small and his employer for a time, but when Small made a vacation time-off request in order to attend church services on a Good Friday, the company at first approved his request, but then backtracked and denied it. Small went to church services anyway and was promptly suspended without pay. In response, he sued Memphis Light, Gas & Water for violating Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, and national origin, and requires employers to afford requested religious accommodations unless doing so would impose an “undue hardship” on them. At no point during the litigation did either party claim that Small’s requested accommodation—reduced pay while he sought reassignment—would have imposed a significant hardship on his employer. In fact, Small had gone out of his way to take vacation time he had already earned just to attend church services. But despite that, both the district court and the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals refused to even consider Small’s claim. Why? Because of a single Supreme Court case: Trans World Airlines v. Hardison (1977). In that case, the court held that an employer does not need to provide a religious accommodation that involves “more than a de minimis cost.” It’s a case that clearly tips the scales in favor of an employer when an employee asks for a religious accommodation—causing a frustration that Gorsuch made no effort to hide. In his dissent, Gorsuch stressed that Hardison undid Title VII’s “undue hardship” test, relying instead on anything “more than a de minimis cost” as reason enough to turn down an employee’s request for a religious accommodation. Gorsuch claimed that Small’s requested accommodation might not actually have imposed a significant hardship on his employer after all, but that the court had denied him even the right to consider the question in the first place. And that was due, of course, to a problematic case that Gorsuch stressed ultimately needed to be overruled and relegated to history’s trash bin. Perhaps the biggest problem of all with the Hardison case is that the “undue hardship” language it uses appears nowhere in Title VII’s statutory language. Small’s employer, Memphis Light, Gas & Water, had to concede in the lower court proceedings that the Hardison case “very likely is not the best possible gloss on Title VII’s language.” Yes, even the defendant in Small had to admit that Hardison doesn’t do religious employees any favors under Title VII. Gorsuch noted that two of the three judges on the 6th Circuit panel (including Judge Amul Thapar, the author of the recent federal court decision that prevented a professor at Shawnee State University from being forced to use a student’s “preferred pronouns”) had written separate opinions in Small’s case, arguing that “Hardison [rewrote the] statute” and leaves employers with a significant imbalance of power. The decades-old Hardison case did for Title VII what the Supreme Court did for the free exercise clause of the Constitution in its 1990 opinion in Employment Division v. Smith, in which the court refused to recognize the “extraordinary right to ignore generally applicable laws that are not supported by ‘compelling governmental interest’ on the basis of religious belief.” Both Hardison and Smith set a standard that accommodated employers over an employee’s sincerely held religious beliefs, and government action over the free exercise of religion, by neutering the law as written and leaving protections for religious belief in only the narrowest categories of cases. Congress’ concerns about the impact of Smith were so great that the case prompted the near-unanimous passage in 1993 of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act that persists—and protects the faithful—to this day. (That is, of course, unless Congress passes the Equality Act, which cuts the Religious Freedom Restoration Act’s protections to the bone.) Since the Hardison case, Congress has passed other civil rights laws that are clearly more protective of other important interests in the workplace, and which rely on the “undue hardship” standard for accommodations. Among them are the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act, and the accommodations for nursing mothers in the Affordable Care Act. Gorsuch reminded the court in his Small dissent that because Hardison is still alive and well, “the company had no obligation to provide Mr. Small his requested religious accommodations because doing so would have cost the company something (anything) more than a trivial amount.” That cannot be the right balance between an employee’s religious liberty and his employer’s interests. The Supreme Court had a chance to correct that imbalance—but declined. That’s why a frustrated Gorsuch concluded his dissent in Small: “[T]oday, this Court refuses even to entertain the question. It’s a struggle to see why.” Tags: Sarah Parshall Perry, Heritage Foundation, Supreme Court, Punted on Protections, for Religion in Workplace, Justice Gorsuch, Wasn’t Having It.To share or post to your site, click on “Post Link”. With Big Federal Spending And Growing Deficits, Is Higher Inflation About To Hit American Families?
Posted: 15 Apr 2021 03:24 PM PDT by AFP: Until the coronavirus pandemic hit, the U.S. economy was growing at a consistent and stable rate. Largely as a result of COVID-19 and the policies adopted to fight it, the economy contracted by 3.5 percent in 2020. But even before the year was over, signs pointed to a strong rebound this year and next. That encouraging economic picture didn’t stop Congress and the president from approving a $1.9 trillion package of spending and borrowing, and from working on another whose final price tag could reach $4 trillion. How much government deficit spending can our economy take before inflation comes back? And what will the toll be on workers and savers if it does? The Great Inflation Prior to this long period of stability, high inflation rates were more common. From 1973 to 1982 for example, during what economists call “The Great Inflation,” the average annual inflation rate in the U.S. was nearly 9 percent. People still recall this period with worry and fear. Workers’ wages couldn’t keep up with rising prices, and people worried that if they saved money for the future, they risked losing value going forward. Small businesses found themselves raising their own prices regularly, to accommodate rising salaries and increasing costs of their own. A number of factors contributed to the rise in prices, and economists still debate how to allocate the blame. Regardless, the federal government turned to a number of policy changes — including wage and price controls — to try to stop the vicious spiral. The problem was so pervasive that the Federal Reserve turned to higher interest rates, approaching 20 percent, to slow down the economy and keep prices from rising so quickly. Eventually the United States hit a period of what became known as stagflation: a depressed economy, with low growth, high unemployment, and stagnant wages, accompanied by continued high inflation. Political cartoons such as this one captured how many felt. Is inflation on the horizon?
And for those who still remember the gas lines and price shocks of the 1970s, these worrying signals also come at a time of rising gas prices. A prudent step: limit new government spending It would be prudent for leaders in Washington to make sure government policies don’t push inflation even higher. That should mean reducing deficits and reining in unnecessary government spending. ————————— Americans For Prosperity (AFP) article. ‘Fertilizer Taxes’ Will Hurt Farmers and Likely Drive Up Food Prices
Posted: 15 Apr 2021 02:39 PM PDT
by Daren Bakst & Gabriella Beaumont-Smith: If the existing trade disputes with China were not bad enough for American farmers, now another trade action could hurt them. It will also likely hurt individuals and businesses throughout the food supply chain. As a result of recent U.S. Department of Commerce and U.S. International Trade Commission findings, countervailing duties—taxes on imports that have been subsidized by the governments of the origin countries—will be imposed on Moroccan and Russian phosphate fertilizer imports. These duties act in the same way as tariffs (taxes on imports) and are collected by U.S. Customs and Border Protection from American businesses importing the subjected goods. The Department of Commerce and the International Trade Commission made their determinations after a single company, The Mosaic Co., filed petitions that claimed it was hurt by these imports. However, the harm imposed on Mosaic is questionable. Among many other factors, the company dominates phosphate fertilizer production in the United States and the domestic supply of this critical agricultural input is often unable to meet U.S. demand. So, what will these duties mean? First, it’s important to understand that foreign governments do not pay these duties, people do—in this case, U.S. farmers will bear the initial cost, although the extent of this is unclear. In February, Bob Young, former chief economist for the American Farm Bureau Federation, estimated that the additional cost for corn, soybean, and wheat farmers alone could be $1–$1.5 billion for the coming crop year. Beyond costs, some commodity groups have argued that the duties could make it difficult for them to obtain adequate phosphate supplies and limit choices available to farmers. It’s quite likely that the increased costs will be passed on throughout the food supply chain, ultimately increasing the prices that Americans pay for their food. As a result, these duties would be regressive, impacting low-income households the most; the lowest-income households spend a greater share of their disposable income on food (36%) compared to the highest-income households (8%). All of this would be bad enough in “normal” times, but we are not in “normal” times. We are all living through a pandemic in which the health and economic impact is still being felt. It would only make the current bad situation worse to impose very questionable taxes on a critical agricultural input that will hinder the food supply chain. Congress needs to correct this situation, otherwise these harmful duties will be in place for at least five years. At a minimum, legislators should review the situation and carefully consider whether Mosaic is being unfairly harmed by the phosphate fertilizer imports. They should also take into account the impact that the “fertilizer taxes” will have on farmers and American families, especially in light of the pandemic. In doing so, legislators will almost certainly recognize that these “fertilizer taxes” are inappropriate. The only reasonable step would then be to remove the duties. Agricultural trade is vital for farmers, ranchers, and American families. Farmers can import their inputs at competitive prices and differing qualities, and they can expand their sales by selling their excess supply abroad. Trade also provides a greater variety of food for Americans in the grocery store. Congress and the Biden administration should move away from policies that increase government intervention that hinders agricultural trade. Americans need policymakers to increase freedom when it comes to agricultural trade. Removing these duties would be an important step in that direction. After so much uncertainty, Americans deserve no less. Tags: Fertilizer Taxes. Will Hurt Farmers, Likely Drive Up Food PricesTo share or post to your site, click on “Post Link”. Punished For Compromise, Georgia vs. H.R. 1, Stop The Panic
Posted: 15 Apr 2021 01:57 PM PDT
by Gary Bauer: Georgia & Hong Kong These companies are threatening to punish any U.S. state that requires a voter ID on Election Day. They claim that requiring a voter ID is a violation of civil rights. That’s absurd! But while these corporate giants are attacking Georgia and other U.S. states, they are desperately trying to please communist China. In fact, many of these companies fought President Trump when he tried to secure fair trade deals with China. Why? Because China’s communist leaders told them to speak up for China if they wanted to do business there. For decades Hong Kong has enjoyed free elections. But in recent years, communist China violated a treaty it signed and crushed liberty in Hong Kong. The Chinese communists have made it impossible for pro-democracy, pro-freedom candidates to be elected to anything in Hong Kong. Coca-Cola and Delta falsely claim that Georgia is rolling back civil rights. But that’s exactly what communist China did in Hong Kong. And these American companies haven’t said a word in protest. In fact, Coca-Cola, Intel, Procter & Gamble, and Visa are all corporate sponsors of the Olympic games, which are scheduled to take place next year in Beijing. Will any of these companies now condemning Georgia dare to condemn communist China or withdraw their sponsorships of the Beijing Olympics over China’s suppression of freedom in Hong Kong or its concentration camps or its persecution of Christians? There’s a saying attributed to Vladimir Lenin that communism would ultimately prevail because stupid capitalists would sell the rope that the communists would use to hang them. When the Soviet Union fell, I thought Lenin was wrong. But Coca-Cola, Delta and other Fortune 500 companies seem intent on proving Lenin right. Major League Hypocrisy So just to be clear, in protest of a law that expands voting opportunities and includes provisions supported by nearly 70% of black Americans, Major League Baseball is taking a $100 million economic opportunity away from a majority-minority city and sending it to one of the least diverse cities in the country. By the way, who elected these sports leagues and corporations to anything? These morally bankrupt franchises and companies can’t stand up to the communist Chinese but they think they can dictate our election laws? C’mon man! Fighting Back
Idiot Of The Month “I am hoping we can . . . separate intellectual property, human rights and other things from trade and continue to encourage a free trade environment between [the U.S. and communist China]. . . . We cannot afford to be locked out of that market. Our competitor [Airbus] will jump right in.” American CEOs are proof that trade with China didn’t change the communists. It changed us. All it has done is enable Beijing’s massive military buildup. Today, communist China is competing against America for influence around the world the way the old Soviet Union used to, and it’s not at all clear which side will ultimately prevail. Defaming DeSantis They accused DeSantis of cronyism, alleging that he awarded a lucrative COVID vaccine contract to Publix, a popular grocery/drug store, in exchange for campaign donations. But the 60 Minutes hit piece didn’t work out so well. The charge is completely false, and even Florida Democrats (here and here) are coming to the governor’s defense. The left just cannot accept the fact that conservative governors have handled the coronavirus pandemic better than progressive governors. They are emotionally invested in defending New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Emmy award. Where is the 60 Minutes report on Andrew Cuomo’s nursing home scandal? His vaccine nepotism scandal? His sexual harassment scandals? (A ninth woman has come forward now.) In fact, if 60 Minutes is really interested in a “pay-to-play” vaccine distribution scandal, it could start by investigating — you guessed it! — New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. Some are suggesting that Gov. DeSantis should sue 60 Minutes. It’s hard to sue the media. But in this case, I agree. This wasn’t a matter of merely bungling a few facts. The sheer level of deliberate deception in this case is evidence of malicious intent. Speaking Of Suing Big Media. . . I don’t know if there are five votes on the Supreme Court for what Thomas suggests. I hope so. But I vehemently disagree with our libertarian friends who say we shouldn’t regulate private businesses. The intolerant leftists who control Big Government know they can’t openly censor conservatives without running afoul of the First Amendment. But their intolerant friends in Big Tech are doing their dirty work for them. When you’re being censored, how much does it really matter whether it’s the U.S. government, Facebook or Twitter? You’re still being censored regardless of who’s doing it. By the way, human traffickers are running ads on Facebook in Central America promising passage into the United States for $8,000. Apparently, that doesn’t violate any of Facebook’s automatic algorithms that regularly silence conservative ideas. What Everyone Sees
Posted: 15 Apr 2021 01:15 PM PDT by Penna Dexter: The Equality Act has passed the House of Representatives and awaits a Senate vote. It’s a priority for the president who says he wants it passed in his first 100 days. The law makes sexual orientation and gender identity protected categories under civil rights law. Elevating public protections for LGBTQ activities diminishes protections for religious people and organizations. The Equality Act would define much of what churches, and religious people and organizations do as “public accommodations.” So, religious schools, hospitals, and other ministries would be forced to operate under a gender ideology that violates the core of what they believe. They’d be required to take actions they know would seriously harm other human beings. Among them: the perpetration of medical atrocities on people uncomfortable with their God-given gender. The Equality Act is an egregious assault on religious liberty. But it goes further. It’s an attack on what everyone sees. Margaret Harper McCarthy is a professor at John Paul II Institute. Her recent Wall Street Journal op-ed is entitled “The Equality Act Is at War With Reality.” “At stake,” she writes, “is the freedom of rational human beings to use a common vocabulary when speaking about what all can see.” This is not about theological beliefs, like the Trinity. “Rather,” she writes, “the Equality Act concerns things everyone can see and understand.” Nursing babies know their mothers are the ones nursing them, not their fathers. Sexual difference is obvious. If truths about the human body are only “beliefs,” Professor McCarthy wonders “why object so vociferously to these particular ‘beliefs’?” Her answer: “Because they make especially strong claims on us.” There’s a revolution that denies the obvious, denies the visible reality of two sexes: male and female. Its goal is to eliminate the distinction between the sexes. The professor says it “is now at the doorstep.” Believers should prepare, because “those who believe in the invisible order are now the last custodians of the visible one.” Tags: Penna Dexter, Point of View, What Everyone SeesTo share or post to your site, click on “Post Link”. The Audacity of the Swamp
Posted: 15 Apr 2021 01:02 PM PDT by Paul Jacob, Contributing Author: A crony anti-infrastructure plan. That, writes Veronique de Rugy at Reason, is “the best description of the Biden administration’s proposed $2.3 trillion infrastructure plan.” Democrats are the masters of favoring a select few at the expense of the electorate and calling it the Public Good. Their woke moralism, egalitarianism, and other pieties effectively mask their party’s accomplished crony scheming. Right now, though, the heady audacity of spending trillions of dollars we do not (yet) possess is all the mask the Democrats appear to need. Does anyone talk about the Swamp anymore? Never drained, it is back with a vengeance:
The tax increase in the plan is to eliminate established tax “preferences” for fossil fuel companies. This would be politically popular with Democratic Party supporters, feeding their enviro-lust to lash out at what are commonly perceived as destroyers of the planet. But tax something more, get less. And a huge part of our infrastructure relies upon — indeed, consists in — the fossil fuel industry. So there will be less infrastructure investment in that realm. But that doesn’t hurt the cronies. It hurts other folks. This is Common Sense. I’m Paul Jacob. Tags: Paul Jacob, Common Sense, Audacity of the SwampTo share or post to your site, click on “Post Link”. by Victor Davis Hanson: Ed Bastian made $17 million in 2019 as chief executive officer of Delta Airlines, Georgia’s largest employer. Bastian just blasted Georgia’s new voting law. He thinks it is racist to require the same sort of ID to vote that Delta requires for its passengers to check in. Yet most Americans believe voting is a more sacred act than flying Delta and, moreover, may have noticed that Delta has partnerships with systemically racist China. Also, a recent Associated Press poll showed that 72 percent of Americans favor requiring photo ID to vote. The most privileged CEOs of corporate America — those who sell us everything from soft drinks and sneakers to professional sports and social media — now jabber to America about its racism, sexism and other assorted sins. The rules of cynical CEO censure are transparent. First, the corporation never harangues unless it feels it has more to lose — whether by boycotts, protests or bad publicity — than it stands to gain in staying neutral and silent. Second, class concerns are never mentioned. Bastian made about $65,000 for each working day of 2019. In a sane world, he might seem a ridiculous voice of the oppressed. Third, CEOs never fear offending the conservative silent majority, who are assumed not to boycott or protest. The woke revolution is not a grassroots movement. It is powered by a well-connected and guilt-ridden elite. Yet the religion of wokeness assumes that these high priests deserve exemptions. Their wealth, credentials, contacts and power ensure none are ever subject to the consequences of their own sermons. Multimillion-dollar NBA stars blast America’s “systemic racism.” They utter not a word about Chinese re-education camps, the destruction of Tibetan culture or the strangulation of Hong Kong’s democracy. Player salaries depend on coaxing a huge Chinese market. Players’ domestic endorsements hinge on a young, woke American clientele. Defending the professional sports lifestyles of rich and famous stars apparently requires loud penance by blasting an unfair America. Examine almost any woke hotspot and a growing class divide is clear. Academia? Tenured administrators and university presidents pulling down seven-figure salaries are far more likely to virtue-signal their universities’ “racism” than are untenured, poorly paid, part-time lecturers. It is easier for a college president to blather about his own “unearned privilege” than to support the rights of exploited part-time faculty — much less resign to give someone else a spot. The woke media? Its clergy are elite network newsreaders, not so much reporters on the beat. The military? The retired and current officers who lecture us on the evils of Donald Trump or promise to ferret out “insurrectionists” among the ranks are mostly generals and admirals — and some retired top-brass multimillionaires. We don’t hear much about privates, corporals, sergeants and majors pushing through subsidies for transgendered surgeries or petitions to garrison a quiet Washington with barbed wire and National Guardsmen. The richest people in America — the heads of our biggest corporations — are the most likely to voice their derision for the unwoke lower and middle classes. Ditto the multimillionaires of politics — Al Gore, Dianne Feinstein, John Kerry and Nancy Pelosi. Celebrity billionaires such as Jay-Z, George Lucas, Paul McCartney and Oprah Winfrey weigh in often about the oppression of the supposedly rigged system they mastered, but rarely about the plight of the less-well-paid in their own professions. So wokeness is medieval. Sin is not given up as much as atoned for — and excused — through loud confessionals. Self-righteous elites rant about carbon footprints, needless border security, defunding the police, gun control and charter schools. But they rarely forgo their private jets, third and fourth homes, estate walls, armed security guards and prep schools. Apparently, the more you rant about “privilege,” the less you need to worry about your own. Wokeness is an insurance policy. The louder the damnation of American culture, the more likely a career will be saved or enhanced. Wokeness is classist and elitist. Those who made or inherited a fortune, got the right degree at the right school, made CEO or a four-star rank, live in the right ZIP code or know the right people believe they have earned the right to decide what is moral for their inferiors. So, some of them have created an entire vocabulary — “deplorables,” “irredeemables,” “clingers,” “dregs,” “chumps” and “Neanderthals” — for the peasants and losers who must do as they are told. Wokeness is not really about fairness for minorities, the oppressed and the poor, past or present. It is mostly a self-confessional cult of anointed bullies, and hypocrites of all races and genders, who seek to flex, and increase, their own privilege and power. Period. 48.) NBC MORNING RUNDOWN
Friday, April 16, 2021
Good morning, NBC News readers.
We have the latest on a shooting at a FedEx facility in Indianapolis, an investigation into top soldiers sharing conspiracy theories on Facebook, and the struggle to reunite immigrant parents with their children.
Here is what we’re watching this Friday morning.
At least 8 people killed in shooting at Indianapolis FedEx facility, others injured; suspect also dead A gunman opened fire at a FedEx facility in Indianapolis late Thursday, killing at least eight people before killing himself, police confirmed overnight.
Several other people are being treated in hospital for gunshot wounds and other injuries — at least one is in a critical condition. The identity of the victims and the suspected shooter have yet to be released.
The shooting was reported at the FedEx facility shortly after 11 p.m. and officers arrived to an active shooter incident, police spokeswoman Officer Genae Cook told reporters.
Cook said it was too early to tell if the shooter was an employee of the facility, and that an active investigation was underway. A motive was also unclear.
“This is a tragedy,” she said.

49.) NBC FIRST READ
|
From NBC’s Chuck Todd, Mark Murray and Carrie Dann
FIRST READ: Polls show Biden reaping solid approval ratings with popular policies
In the last 48 hours, we’ve seen four different national polls that all show President Biden’s approval rating above water – with the highest (Pew) at 59 percent approve, 39 percent disapprove, and with the lowest (Quinnipiac) at 48 percent approve, 42 percent disapprove.
It’s a break with former President Donald Trump, whose job rating remained mostly underwater during his presidency, even in his first 100 days on the job.
And one of the reasons why Biden is staying above water is that almost everything he’s deliberately tried to make part of his agenda during his honeymoon period is popular.
That Covid relief law? It remains widely popular. (A Monmouth poll finds 63 percent of Americans supporting it, including 43 percent who do so strongly.)
His infrastructure plan? It pretty much matches his job rating in the Quinnipiac and NPR/PBS/Maristsurveys.
Increased taxes for corporations and Americans making more than $400,000? Popular.
What about making long-term health care part of his infrastructure plan? NPR/PBS/Marist shows 58 percent of Americans believing that this is part of the country’s infrastructure, versus 39 percent who don’t.
The exceptions to Biden’s popular agenda are his Afghanistan withdrawal (where the polling has been more mixed than you might expect for a 20-year war) and Biden’s unpopular handling of the border (which wasn’t something he put on his early to-do list, but which is now something he clearly owns).
Bottom line: Biden has been careful not to push policies that aren’t significantly popular with the public. (In fact, more controversial proposals to expand the Supreme Court and advance reparations bills are NOT coming from the White House.)
And that’s a reversal from the last four years, when the focus was on appealing to the base rather than to the 50 percent-plus.
|
Yesterday’s big Russia-related news
There were two big pieces of news yesterday as the Biden slapped sanctions on Russian entities and individuals.
One, it turns out that the intel community has determined that the evidence on that widely reported Russia-Afghanistan-bounty story isn’t conclusive – and that finding cuts against Biden’s rhetoric during the 2020 presidential campaign.
Two, the Biden administration says that a longtime associate of Trump 2016 campaign chief Paul Manafort – Konstantin Kilimnik – gave Russian intelligence agencies “sensitive information on polling and campaign strategy,” per CNBC.
And that assertion on the 2016 polling goes further than the Mueller investigation or the Senate Intel Committee determined.

31,633,796: The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in the United States, per the most recent data from NBC News and health officials. (That’s 71,850 more than yesterday morning.)
569,218: The number of deaths in the United States from the virus so far, per the most recent data from NBC News. (That’s 792 more than yesterday morning.)

Magic mushroom treatment on par with pharma drugs for combating depression, study finds
Posted: 14 Apr 2021 09:00 PM PDT In a small phase two trial, Imperial College researchers have found that psilocybin, the active ingredient of magic mushrooms, is at least as effective as pharmaceutical medication at treating depression. In their admittedly small scale study, some 59 volunteers with depression were split into two groups. |

The same Facebook social media platform that bans your gun ads spent over $23 million on security for Mark Zuckerberg in 2020. The Daily Mail reports Facebook spent “more than $13.4 million on personal security” for Zuckerberg, plus another $10 million in the form of a “pre-tax allowance…for his family’s private security.” |
Twitter bans James O’Keefe after major CNN bias exposé

Project Veritas has, for several years, been releasing exclusive undercover video footage that exposes the biases of TV networks, the media, and Big Tech. |
Joe Biden bans US banks from buying or underwriting Russian debt sales

Globalists Will Need Another Crisis In America As Their Reset Agenda Fails
Posted: 14 Apr 2021 09:00 PM PDT It might sound like “US exceptionalism” to point this out (…and how very dare I), but even if the globalist Reset is successful in every other nation on Earth, the globalists are still failures if they can’t secure and subjugate the American people. As I’ve noted many times in the past, most of the world has been sufficiently disarmed, and even though we are seeing resistance in multiple European nations against forced vaccination legislation and medical tyranny, it is unlikely that they will have the ability to actually repel a full on march into totalitarianism. Most of Asia, India and Australia are already well under control. Africa is almost an afterthought , considering Africa is where many suspect vaccines are tested. |
Why Does China Collect Americans’ DNA?
Posted: 14 Apr 2021 09:00 PM PDT As a Technocracy, China’s Technocrat scientists believe that the future of mankind lies in the engineering of its collective DNA. Nevertheless, China’s agressive collection of American DNA should be doubly-alarming because it can only spell one ultimate outcome: bio-warfare. That is, genetically engineering viruses or other diseases that will be selectively harmful to U.S. populations. |
Your Car’s Location Information Is Up For Grabs
Posted: 14 Apr 2021 09:00 PM PDT Last year, Joshua Wessel, a man in Kalamazoo, Michigan, was arrested for the June 2017 murder of Ronald French. Using data stored in Mr. French’s car, investigators identified Mr. Wessel as the person who gave voice instructions to the car’s infotainment system—a recording made within 90 minutes of French’s death. This data helped investigators dismiss Wessel’s original claim that he had merely stolen the car. |
Blue Wall Crumbling as Second State Ends Qualified Immunity for Bad Cops
Posted: 14 Apr 2021 09:00 PM PDT As TFTP reported last month, in an unprecedented move, the New York City Council passed sweeping legislation to go after bad cops by removing qualified immunity, ushering in a new era for police accountability. This move was revolutionary as they were the first major area to make such a drastic change — until now. |
State to Require COVID Vaccination for Those Attending Burning Man 2021
Posted: 14 Apr 2021 09:00 PM PDT Over the years, the Burning Man Festival has become one of the most popular events and party destinations in the US and has drawn tens of thousands of people in recent years. Unfortunately, this celebration of love and harmony is an enemy to the rigid bureaucracy and control freaks in the state. in 2018, TFTP reported how law enforcement attempted to turn the event into a police state function with random vehicle searches and checkpoints. Then in 2019, the Bureau of Land Management implemented drug screening checkpoints at all entrances to see if people are showing up with drugs in their systems. That was then, this is now. |
142 Fully Vaccinated People in Houston Test Positive for COVID-19
Posted: 14 Apr 2021 09:00 PM PDT More than 140 people in Houston have tested positive for COVID-19 more than two weeks after being fully vaccinated against the virus that causes the disease, health experts in the Texas city confirmed. |
‘Young, healthy’ South Mississippi man suffers stroke hours after receiving J&J vaccine
Posted: 14 Apr 2021 09:00 PM PDT Malagarie was rushed to the hospital and diagnosed with a stroke. A blood clot had lodged in his left middle cerebral artery. O’Keefe, who is also Brad’s boss, said the family believes without a doubt that the vaccine caused the stroke. |

He was serving a 150-year prison sentence. Madoff would have been 83 on April 29. A source told the Associated Press that Madoff had died of natural causes. |

How Bill Gates Helped Drug Companies Maintain Their Monopoly On Vaccines During COVID
Posted: 14 Apr 2021 09:00 PM PDT A few weeks ago, when President Biden held his first press conference since taking office, he promised that 200 million adults will have received at least one vaccine jab by the time his first 100 days have finished – a doubling of his initial target of 100M. Yet, in close to 130 countries, representing a population of 2.5 billion people, not a single adult has received a dose. |

BREAK THE INTERNET
Mourning the loss of the ArcLight Cinema chain
I grew up in Los Angeles, and I lived there through my mid-20s—an era that involved going to lots of different music venues, comedy clubs, and, of course, movie theaters. My favorite theater chain was ArcLight, which had locations in Hollywood, the Valley, and Pasadena. Going to any of them involved a ritual of navigating the parking garage before walking into the expansive lobby, where a giant clock told the time and a digital board listed the dozens of upcoming showtimes. The lobbies in ArcLight theaters were unlike the lobbies of movie theaters I frequented as a kid. There was a buzz in the air on weekends; you felt like you were at a highly-coveted social event.
This week, the parent company of ArcLight Cinema and Pacific Theatres announced that it was not reopening its theaters that have been closed since the start of the pandemic. It’s a huge blow for movie-lovers who flocked to the ArcLight for the opening night of every big movie. It’s unclear what will happen to the Cinerama Dome, an iconic symbol in the city that has been around since 1963 and is currently a part of ArcLight Hollywood. At least it gave us a lot of good memories.

Do tarot card readings actually work?
Tarot readings are a divisive topic. Some people plan their day on their wisdom, while others dismiss them as nonsense. If you’re not sure where you fall on this spectrum, learning more about how they actually work can be helpful in deciding if you’d like to try one out, or maybe even learn to read your own!
CELEBRITIES
Gossip didn’t go away during the pandemic—it evolved
If there’s a pandemic gossip success story, it’s Deuxmoi, an Instagram account created in March 2020, as New York City weathered a COVID-19 surge. The account, which brands itself as “curators of pop culture” in its Instagram bio, now has more than 800,000 followers. People can submit stories and gossip through a form on the website, which asks the user to give a pseudonym. Deuxmoi submissions are posted as screenshots on Instagram Stories, creating an urgency to check in. There’s no vetting, and a disclaimer in the bio states: “This account does not claim any information published is based in fact.” Many submissions aren’t even gossip: They’re blurry fan photos of celebrities; innocent “I saw X at Y” spottings; or simple facts, like that Jennifer Garner attends church. Its founder is a woman but so far remains anonymous.
“Like everything, gossip is cyclical,” Elaine Lui, founder of the long-running site LaineyGossip, told the Daily Dot. “Deuxmoi is the recent modern iteration of that…When we talk about cyclical, in terms of what’s new and what isn’t, a lot of the things Deuxmoi reports had its precedent back in the day with Gawker Stalker, as people have pointed out.”

TIKTOK
There’s a Christian version of Lil Nas X’s ‘Montero’
TikToker Katelyn Paige released her own “Christian” version of Lil Nas X’s “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” and it’s facing a lot of pushback. In Paige’s remix of the song, spread over two TikTok videos, she takes everything about “Montero” and flips or discards it. Replacing the song’s unnamed lover with Jesus, she exhorts people to call on his name, presenting him as the salvation they need from “living the life that is fake.”
Even if Paige’s song wasn’t intended as a direct rebuke to Lil Nas X’s original, as her “no hate Lil Nas X” comment at the beginning of the video may be intended to convey, taking a song that so thoroughly rebukes Christianity because of the harm its caused and turning it into a Jesus bop is innately disrespectful. The song’s only redeeming feature? The duets on TikTok that are dragging it.

99.) MARK LEVIN
April 15, 2021
On Thursday’s Mark Levin Show, This program has been focused on what the democrats are doing with immigration and other critical issues for nearly two decades. Sixteen years ago the book “Men In Black” thoroughly explained how left-wing politics had eroded the Supreme Court. Now, Democrats have followed Chuck Schumer’s lead to continue threatening the Court by expanding it to weaken it so that activist Justices can legislate from the bench. This program has always supported term limits for the Supreme Court, however, in the current political environment, it’s being used to manipulate the power of the court not to protect its integrity. Democrats are using every instrumentality they can to move their unpopular agenda forward because they know they could never pass these measures legitimately. Then, James O’ Keefe has been suspended from Twitter permanently. O’Keefe called in to discuss his plans to take legal action against Twitter for trying to silence him following the bombshell video his organization released on CNN’s own admission of propaganda on hidden camera. Afterward, Dan McLaughlin from National Review calls in to discuss how the Democrat Party is wielding power through surrogates in big corporations. Finally, Congressman Lee Zeldin of New York joins the show to announce his campaign for Governor of New York and his plan to put NY back on track to save the state.
