REP. OMAR BLAMES TRUMP TWEET FOR DEATH THREATS: Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., says she’s received an influx of death threats since President Trump tweeted a video on Driday that combined comments from the congresswoman — which critics said were dismissive of the Sept. 11 attacks — with footage from Ground Zero …
“I have experienced an increase in direct threats on my life—many
directly referencing or replying to the President’s video,” Omar tweeted
in a statement on Sunday night. Omar said that hate crimes around the
world by right-wing extremists and whte nationalists are on the rise
around the world and accused Trump of encouraging acts of hate.
Omar’s comments came as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that she had taken steps
to ensure the freshman congresswoman’s safety and called on the
president to take the tweet down. The White House defended Trump, saying
the president had a duty to highlight Omar’s history of comments that
others have found offensive, blamed Democrats for not holding the
congresswoman accountable for her alleged anti-Semitic comments and that
he wished no “ill will” upon the first-term lawmaker.

BERNIE SANDERS TOWN HALL ON FOX NEWS TONIGHT: Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., is getting ready to make his pitch for president in front of a large audience at Fox News’ town hall tonight … Fox
News’ Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum will moderate the hour-long
event. It will be the Vermont senator’s first appearance on Fox News
Channel since he agreed to be a guest on “Special Report” in December
2018. He also participated in Fox News Channel’s Democratic town hall
back in 2016 alongside his then-competitor Hillary Clinton. Sanders, who
raised $18 million in the first six weeks of his campaign, is
considered a front-runner among a crowded field of 2020 presidential hopefuls. His town hall on Fox comes the same day he has promised to release his tax records.
TRUMP’S $30M CAMPAIGN WAR CHEST: President Trump’s re-election campaign raised $30.3 million in the first quarter of this year, far pacing the leading fundraisers among the Democrats, Fox News confirmed Sunday …
The Trump campaign said nearly 99 percent of its donations were of $200
or less, with an average donation of $34.26. In all, the campaign had
$40.8 million cash on hand, an unprecedented war chest for an incumbent
president this early in the campaign.
Among Trump’s would-be Democratic challengers, Vermont Sen. Bernie
Sanders was leading the money race after taking in $18.2 million in the
first quarter of this year. He was followed by California Sen. Kamala
Harris, with $12 million. Former Rep. Beto O’Rourke ($9.4 million), South Bend, Ind. Mayor Pete Buttigieg ($7 million) and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren ($6 million) rounded out the top five fundraisers among Democrats.
ICYMI: LINDSEY GRAHAM’S PLAN TO COMBAT THE MIGRATION CRISIS: Sen. Lindsey Graham said on Sunday that he is currently working on a drastic overhaul of the United States’ asylum laws in an effort to deal with the ongoing migration crisis at the country’s southern border with Mexico …
While Graham, R-S.C., agreed with President Trump’s call for more U.S.
troops on the border and the need for a physical barrier, he argued on “Sunday Morning Futures”
that the only way to make real progress in combating the flow of
migrants over the southern border is to change laws regarding how and
when the U.S. grants asylum. (Click on the video above to watch the
interview.)
Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders confirmed to “Fox News Sunday” that President Trump’s prospective plan to send illegal immigrants to sanctuary cities is undergoing a “complete and thorough review.”
EYE OF THE TIGER: Tiger Woods is basking in the glory of his fifth — and perhaps most improbable and emotional — major title victory after winning the Masters on Sunday …
Woods’ comeback has come full-circle. Only two years ago at Augusta
National, Woods needed a nerve block just to hobble upstairs to the
Champions Dinner, unsure he would ever play another round of golf. He
had a fourth back surgery with hopes of simply playing with his two
children. Now, at age 43, he is a Masters champion again, his first
green jacket since 2005 and his first major since the 2008 U.S. Open.
In addition to Woods’ fifth Masters championship and 15th major title
(trailing only the great Jack Nicklaus in both categories), Sunday
marked his 81st victory on the PGA Tour, one away from the career record
held by Sam Snead. Perhaps most gratifying for Woods is that his two
children, ages 10 and 11, got to see him win a championship live and not
just relive his past glory on YouTube.
THE SOUNDBITE ‘A DISGUSTING OVERREACH’ – “This is all about political partisanship. This is a dangerous, dangerous road and frankly, Chris, I don’t think Congress, particularly not this group of congressmen and women, are smart enough to look through the thousands of pages that I would assume that President Trump’s taxes will be. My guess is most of them don’t do their own taxes and I certainly don’t trust them to look through the decades of success that the president has and determine anything. “– Sarah Sanders, White House press secretary, on “Fox News Sunday,” on Democrats pushing for the release of President Trump’s tax records. Monday, April 15, 2019 Ilhan Omar’s Comments Controversy erupted over the weekend about comments made by Rep Ilhan Omar (D-MN) in a speech to the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in March. Omar stated, “CAIR was founded after 9/11, because they recognized that some people did something and that all of us were starting to lose access to our civil liberties.” YouTube Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) tweeted, “First Member of Congress to ever describe terrorists who killed thousands of Americans on 9/11 as ‘some people who did something’. Unbelievable.” Twitter President Donald Trump tweeted “WE WILL NEVER FORGET!” along with a video of her comments interspersed with footage of the 9/11 attacks. Twitter From the Left The left argues that Omar’s comments were taken out of context, and condemns the over-the-top rhetoric being used against her. “Omar was not downplaying 9/11, she was simply pointing out the injustice of all 1.8 billion Muslims worldwide being blamed for a small number of people committing a horrible atrocity… The only thing you could quibble with is Omar saying that CAIR — a blandly inoffensive Muslim rights organization akin to the NAACP, which conservatives nevertheless constantly accuse of being affiliated with terrorism or itself terrorist — was founded after 9/11, when in fact it was founded in 1994. (Though it did dramatically step up its advocacy after 9/11, for obvious reasons.)” Ryan Cooper, The Week “I’m reminded of Cardinal Richelieu’s quote: ‘If you give me six lines written by the hand of the most honest of men, I will find something in them which will hang him.’ Omar isn’t even being afforded six words… While some in the GOP are trying to use this moment to score cheap political points, Omar has been working hard to advance the 9/11 Victim’s Compensation Fund… [But] the most frustrating thing about this latest spasm of conservative backlash is the way it obscures Omar’s actual point about civil rights.” Qasim Rashid, NBC News “Since 2001, Muslim Americans have increasingly dealt with Islamophobia and threats of violence against them. The two most recent FBI reports on hate crimes showed that anti-Muslim assaults are at record levels in the United States, hovering at three times higher than they did a decade ago. Just this week, an Ohio chapter of CAIR asked the FBI to investigate after it received a threatening letter praising the New Zealand attacks as something that brought ‘tremendous joy’ and calling for ‘Death to Islam everywhere.’… The fearmongering tweets Trump and others pushed out in the wake of Omar’s speech serve as yet more pieces of fuel for this fire.” Samantha Michaels, Mother Jones “GOP Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel responded by calling Omar ‘anti-American.’ Fox & Friends host Brian Kilmeade said that ‘you have to wonder if she is an American first.’… [Last month Fox News Host Jeanine Pirro argued] that Omar isn’t a true American because she wears a hijab. ‘Omar wears a hijab, which according to the Quran, 33:59, tells women to cover so they won’t |
[be]
molested,’ she said. ‘Is her adherence to this Islamic doctrine
indicative of her adherence to sharia law, which is antithetical to the
U.S. Constitution?’… It shouldn’t be hard to understand that pushing such a pointed message that people like Omar are at war with American values can lead to violence.”
Ryan Bort, Rolling Stone
“In February, authorities arrested the United States coast guard
Lieutenant Christopher Hasson, an alleged rightwing extremist who,
reports say, had placed Omar (among others) on a hit list… And just last week, a man from western New York was arrested for allegedly threatening to kill the Minnesota congresswoman.
In scoring their cheap political points, Fox News and the New York Post
and the president of the United States himself are directly
contributing to a perilous climate of vigilantism that threatens not
only Omar but really every Muslim in America today.”
Moustafa Bayoumi, The Guardian
From the Right
The right condemns Omar’s comments and criticizes accusations of incitement against her critics.
“Is this the most important thing happening in the world? Not remotely. But it’s not asking too much from any elected representative to show that basic decency when they speak.
Rep. Omar didn’t manage to do that. Maybe she misspoke. If so, it would
be easy to say so, express a little respect for the dead and move on.
But we’re not seeing that. Instead, Omar and her friends AOC and Rep.
Tlaib and Vox and the Washington Post are claiming criticism of her
language is an attempt to get her killed… “Not one of the people on the left parroting this idea (that criticism incites violence) has shown any such concern about their own speech. When they spent the last 2 years claiming the president was a compromised Russian stooge, did you ever hear them hesitate on the grounds that someone might try to kill Trump? They did not. And neither should critics of Rep. Omar.” John Sexton, Hot Air “Last year, many in the liberal press applauded the public abuse of Trump officials in restaurants. This was the people having their voice! Even Democratic members of Congress urged this kind of direct action. Can they really claim that public confrontation with politicians is less likely to lead to violence than criticism of a Muslim politician’s speech? If telling people to get in GOP officials’ faces isn’t incitement to violence — and it isn’t — then how can criticism of a congresswoman euphemizing the attacks of 9/11 possibly be?… “Omar has been the subject of death threats, including the arrest of one man. Perhaps Omar’s critics should take extra care in framing their attacks. But Omar is a public figure, a politician thrust into vast prominence and influence. She has to be fair game for direct criticism. And her identity cannot be allowed to transform a plain political attack into an incitement to violence.” David Marcus, Federalist Comparisons between Omar’s statements and those made by President Bush at Ground Zero imply “that President Bush said something comparable to her ‘some people did something’ riff, but the implied analogy is nonexistent. Bush vowed to destroy the terrorists who attacked the U.S. Omar suggested that the terrorist attacks were of little consequence except insofar as they prompted an alleged backlash against Muslims–by President Bush, presumably. The two statements could hardly be more different.” John Hinderaker, Power Line Blog Some, however, argue that “Omar’s words were poorly chosen… But I suspect Omar’s intent was not malicious or derisory. Rather, I believe Omar was attempting to draw divergence between her Islamic faith and the al Qaeda fanatics who carried out the 9/11 attacks. When she says that ‘some people’ did it, she meant ‘some people who are not us’ or ‘not like us,’ referring to herself and peaceful, mainstream adherents of Islam in the U.S… Maybe I’m wrong, but I think that was her key point: al Qaeda are not us, and their evil should not be used to collectively punish Muslims. You don’t have to approve of CAIR or Omar to appreciate the legitimacy of this idea.” Tom Rogan, Washington Examiner |
A libertarian’s take
“When
the ideological left engages in what is variously denigrated as
‘political correctness,’ virtue-signaling, performative wokeness, or
‘social-justice warrior’ cry-bullying, many on the right find it easy to
spot the flaws in those modes of discourse. But that discernment
vanishes when the populist right indulges in the same vices… “Civic conversation in America is dysfunctional in part because we have so many such outrage exhibitionists. These folks strip inartfully phrased remarks of context, ignoring the speaker’s intentions and imputing the least charitable possible meaning. This sets them up to display umbrage with the ostentation of a peacock… even if Omar’s words weren’t defensible, what kind of president uses the bully pulpit to push out video of a national trauma, forcing millions to relive its horrors, so that he can score cheap points against a member of Congress?” Conor Friedersdorf, The Atlantic On the bright side… This couple found a year-old lottery ticket worth $750K in a book – two days before the deadline. Sanders: Sanctuary Plan Under ‘Thorough’ Review Last week President Trump tweeted that the administration was considering sending illegal immigrants to sanctuary cities. Author Scott Adams said, “Persuasion analysis: This plan is impractical, but **proposing** it kills the ‘more immigration is better’ argument. This tweet is way smarter than it looks.” Then the President wrote on Friday, “If the Radical Left Democrats all of a sudden don’t want the Illegal Migrants in their Sanctuary Cities (no more open arms), why should others be expected to take them into their communities? Go home and come into our Country legally and through a system of Merit!” When it comes to entertainer Cher’s feelings, it looks like Adams and Trump really did set a trap. Cher tweeted, “I Understand Helping struggling Immigrants, but MY CITY (Los Angeles) ISNT TAKING CARE OF ITS OWN.WHAT ABOUT THE 50,000+Citizens WHO LIVE ON THE STREETS.PPL WHO LIVE BELOW POVERTY LINE,& HUNGRY? If My State Can’t Take Care of Its Own(Many Are VETS)How Can it Take Care Of More.” Oh. A bit of change from when she said people (including herself) should take DREAMers into their homes. On Sunday, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said on Fox News Sunday, “Nobody thinks that this is the ideal solution. But until we can fix the crisis at the border, we have to look at all options. This is one of them. Whether or not it moves forward — that’s yet to be determined. This was raised at a staff level, initially, and pushed back on. The president wants us to explore it again, and that’s being done, and they’re doing a complete and thorough review.” The AP reports that if the government moves illegal immigrants to sanctuary cities, it could help immigrants stay in the U.S. From the report: “The plan would put thousands of immigrants in cities that are not only welcoming to them, but also more likely to rebuff federal officials carrying out deportation orders. Many of these locations have more resources to help immigrants make their legal cases to stay in the United States than smaller cities, with some of the nation’s biggest immigration advocacy groups based in places like San Francisco, New York City and Chicago. The downside for the immigrants would be a high cost of living in the cities.” America Loves a Comeback Yesterday Tiger Woods won his first Masters tournament since 2005 and his first major tournament since 2008. From Fox News: “WOOOOOOO!!!” Woods screamed as he headed for the scoring room with chants of “Tiger! Tiger! Tiger” echoing as loud as any of the roars on the back nine at Augusta National. He scooped up 10-year-old son Charlie, born a year after that dramatic victory on Father’s Day weekend at Torrey Pines. He hugged his mother and then his 11-year-old daughter Sam, and everyone else in his camp that stood by him through a public divorce and an embarrassing DUI arrest from a concoction of painkillers and surgeries. “It’s overwhelming, just because of what has transpired,” Woods told CBS during the post-round interview. “Last year I was lucky to be playing again. At the previous year’s [champions] dinner, I was really struggling. I missed a couple of years not playing this great tournament. To now be the champion … 22 years between [first and latest] wins is a long time. It’s unreal to experience this.” “To have my kids there, it’s come full circle,” Woods added. “You know, my dad was here in ’97 and now, I’m the dad with two kids there.” 5 Ways for Every Body and Budget to Embrace Spring Trends I prefer Summer weather, but Spring is my favorite season just because it’s the end of winter. BREAKING
NEWS: I was three feet away from the First Lady (and her husband). Last
Friday I met a friend for a drink at Trump International in DC and we
got word that the First Couple would be having dinner at BLT Steak at
the hotel right as we were leaving. Needless to say, we hung around. I
was able to shake the President’s hand,
but wasn’t able to meet the First Lady. She did stop to take selfies
with some lucky folks though. Alas, I was not bold enough to ask. Last Friday, Vogue editor Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour said she would not put the current First Lady on the cover of the magazine. She said, “We profile women in the magazine that we believe in the stand that they’re taking on issues. We support them in the fact that we feel that they are leaders.” Actually… Melania’s been there, done that. |
Stephanie
Grisham, the First Lady’s spokesperson, was quick to respond to
Wintour’s shade. She said, “Her role as First Lady of the United States
and all that she does is much more important than some superficial photo
shoot and cover. This just further demonstrates how biased the fashion
magazine industry is, and shows how insecure and small-minded Anna
Wintour really is. Unfortunately, Mrs. Trump is used to this kind of
divisive behavior.”
Fashion Notes for this week…

Good morning,Today’s the day for turning in your tax filings and just 30% of voters believe that the U.S. income tax is fair to most Americans. Fifty-two percent (52%) disagree.Forty-one
percent (41%) of voters believe they pay more than their fair share of
taxes while only 5% believe they pay less than their fair share. The
rest either think they’re paying the right amount (44%) or are not sure
(11%).Sixty-two percent (62%) believe the fairest approach to taxation is a system where lower-income Americans pay a lower percentage of their income in taxes and upper-income Americans pay a higher percentage. On another topic, 83% believe that a person’s lifestyle choices have a bigger impact than medical care on a person’s health and quality of life. Sixty-one percent (61%) believe that apps and devices monitoring health, fitness, and diet lead to improved health. Most
voters (52%) believe that
new technologies will have a bigger positive impact on health care than
new government policies. Just 28% believe government policies will have a
bigger impact while 21% are not sure.Sixty-three percent (63%) of voters believe there are only two genders, male and female.
A ScottRasmussen.com survey also found that 56% believe gender is
defined by birth, 33% believe it is defined by self-identity, and 11%
are not sure.On this
topic, there is a wide ideological divide. Seventy-two percent (72%) of
liberal voters believe gender is a fluid concept. But 85% of
conservatives and 63% of moderates believe there are only
two genders. This morning’s update shows Pete Buttigieg is leading all Democratic hopefuls in terms of social media support. His 21% support score tops Bernie Sanders (15%), Joe Biden (14%), Beto O’Rourke (13%), and Elizabeth Warren (7%). Mayor
Pete is the latest to get a bounce in support from his official entry
into the race. In terms of chatter, he’s also benefited from his attack
on Vice President Pence. For Buttigieg, the most common social media
topic remains LGBTQ Rights. For all other leading candidates today, it’s taxation. Finally, today’s Number of the Day reminds
us that tax filing is not the only bleak thing about April 15 in
American history. On this date, 154 years ago, President Abraham Lincoln
died from an assassin’s bullet.Thank you for your interest in our work,Scott

So Many of the Loudest Fights Are So Insignificant
Around
this time three years ago, three men showed up at my home to threaten
my family and me for not supporting President Trump. I had only recently
come home from an extended stay in the hospital after nearly dying from
clots in my lungs. My wife was preparing for surgery that would confirm
she has a form of lung cancer for which there is no known cure. Our
children were getting bullied at school because of their dad’s political
views. They would, soon after these men showed up at our house, get
yelled at in a store by a man who wanted them to know their father was
destroying the country by not backing a man for President.
I
have to tell you, it is not always easy to withstand the pressures to
conform and the siren calls of acceptance. My family has struggled. We
still struggle. But in struggling through the ups and downs of life, I
am more aware now than I once was…

We do this every year and, at my old site, we did this as well and this is the first time I can think that it aligned with Tax Day. In any event, we are spending this week focusing mostly on the things of Holy Week. Did you know that to be a front page writer at The Resurgent, one must be pro-life? Read More… Carrying Buttigieg’s Water, CNN Demonstrates Shocking Ignorance of Christianity Kyle Blaine is the senior campaign editor for CNN. Kyle Blaine is a smart person. Yet, Kyle Blaine apparently knows nothing about Christianity. That probably comes across sounding harsher than it is intended; it’s just that I don’t know how else to describe Blaine’s apparent ignorance of basic Christian thought as evidenced by this recent statement: “This Buttigieg/Pence episode illustrates a core question many LGBT people have to confront at some point in their life: Can you be ‘friends’ with someone who believes that something at the very core of who you are is wicked and should be changed.. Read More… Why Donald Trump Will Probably Be Re-Elected The signs are beginning to point more clearly to a Trump re-election victory. Confirming that, Goldman Sachs has released a report stating that President Trump is likely to be re-elected in 2020: While Trump reelection is far from assured, Goldman’s economists believe the president is bolstered by “the advantage of first-term incumbency and the relatively strong economic performance,” in what is sure to be a “close call” election… Read More… Is Social Media Usage in the U.S. Doomed? Not Quite A new Pew Research Center survey published on April 10th — conducted between January 8 to February 7, 2019—reveals social media usage among American adults remains statistically unchanged. Moreover, Pew noted that social media growth is slowing down—compared to ten years ago. Here’s their chart breaking down the most widely used social media platforms among U.S. adults: Read More… Give The People What They Want: Trump Trolls The Left The Trump Era has seen conservative thought and policy reduced to trolling the left on occasion. In this age, the ironies of life and politics have a particular weight. They highlight inconsistency and hypocrisy. And in that sense, trolling the left is an exercise in a form of intellectual apologetics. One is able to defend one’s own political system by tearing down the ideas of the other side. David Gerstman: “Anne in Petach Tikvah blogged about
